- tadj, on 10/10/2007, -46/+139Oh, god!
When will people understand how to read PR rubbish.
Sony have produced 6 million PS3s
Sony have sold 4.28 million PS3s to retailers
Retailers have sold ~3.8-3.9 million PS3s to customers.
This image from sqrl sums it up perfectly:
http://vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=4853 - StateofMind09, on 10/10/2007, -16/+54It specifically says "installed base", which means sold to consumers.
- drjekelmrhyde, on 10/10/2007, -34/+63Will people stop saying SOLD It's shipped unless we're talking about the Wii
- GameFace, on 10/10/2007, -25/+51I love how the Digg community always comes up with their own numbers and percentages out their ass to shift the view and then links to a fan boy forum post to justify the remarks. Swear to god someone people need toilet paper for their keyboard for all the ***** they're typing.
Yes I'm talking to you tadj and truspector. - truspector, on 10/10/2007, -76/+1016 million sold to retailers. < 4 million sold to consumers. That means more than 33% of all PS3's produced so far are still on the shelves.
- xTRUMANx, on 10/10/2007, -12/+36Let's not start a fanboy war in every PS3/Wii/360 article. There's no point.
- NsertNameHere, on 10/10/2007, -2/+26I don't know, try and ask Microsoft that.
- xerus, on 10/10/2007, -4/+20No, tomorrow on Digg's front page:
1. [pic] adorable kitty
2. [pic] incredible dancing baby!
3. top 10 photoshops of star wars kid [pics]
4. hamsterdance.com, amazing animation!
5. [pic] of [pics] on digg
...etc etc etc. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -18/+34give it up fanboys
- samdu, on 10/10/2007, -11/+27Before you read my comment, check out my Digg history. Back? Awesome. The slide in question CLEARLY indicates "Installed Base." Which would seem to pretty clearly mean "sold to consumers." The slide in question also clearly indicates March 2007. The slide is, therefore, complete and utter *****.
- SyDIGG, on 10/10/2007, -2/+16Do Microsoft count all the Xbox 360 consoles they replaced due to RRoD failures?
- swean, on 10/10/2007, -10/+23The PS3 is set to take the gaming industry by storm.
They just need to keep up the good marketing plans. - Dracusis, on 10/10/2007, -5/+17The source: http://www.psu.com/PlayStation-3-hits-6-Million-Sales-WorldWide-News--a791-p0.php
Read it and make up your own effing mind, all this arguing and ***** waving is getting old. - xTRUMANx, on 10/10/2007, -26/+38Dude, chill out. Sony has sold 6 million consoles, no one said it was to consumers.
- iceperson, on 10/10/2007, -5/+17Considering 50% of all 360s produced were used to replace defective ones I'd say Sony isn't doing too badly...
- mysteri0usdrx, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13when i last went to walmart to pick up GH: rock the 80's there were 3 Wii consoles in stock
- aussieNickuss, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9I guess they're also right about blu-ray HD content in Australia. I have never seen and HD-DVD player in a shop (except for the Xbox add-on). All the HD TV display units I've seen use either a Blu-Ray player or PS3 to demo the TV's.
- swean, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9I am buying one sson, and make that 6,000,001
- bstew22, on 10/10/2007, -5/+13VIVA LA FANBOY WARS!
- xerus, on 10/10/2007, -7/+15VGChartz was 95% accurate when Sony announced their 1 million mark, how could they be so far off now?
- drjekelmrhyde, on 10/10/2007, -11/+19I'm not a fanboi for Nintendo I like my 360 but the simply fact is YOU CANT FIND A Wii on the shelf
- nebloof, on 10/10/2007, -6/+14Actually, you're right. If I remember, this slide was from E3 2006 when Sony was explaining that predicted sales would be 6 million PS3s sold to consumers by March 2007. This slide was taken out of context.
- ibeetle, on 10/10/2007, -4/+11Gotta love Digg
Microsoft does this every 3 months Digg goes ***** nuts. 300 submitions dugg up 2,000 times.
How many times has Microsoft sold the same 1 million Zune players? Twice now I think. And the XBox 360 has reached the 10 million mark 3 times.
We sold 10 million... sorry we had to make a numbers adjustment.
Now! We have sold 10 million... nope sorry that was shipped.
Ok.. This is it now this time we really have sold 10 million... no wait... well as long as you count replaced units as sales.
Who cares how many we have sold; just you wait until Halo 3. - kkaabboomm, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10yet when compared to NPD numbers, month in and month out, they are within 10-15%, which is what NPD claims to be too...yet we all love NPD?
- Malakin, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10Unless it was just sarcasm, I think he meant that since Wii's don't stay on store shelves, the number shipped might as well be the number sold. I still haven't seen one in a store.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -8/+15JESUS !!! Sony console was on in the 3 million mark last week at E3 - what did i go into a coma and wake up 6 yrs later ? And soon has finally almost reached the 10 million put in 10 yrs .....Give me a break thats like someone fanboy posted a Digg stating The Wii was over 9 million yet the Xbox 360 hasn't moved form that since almost February !!
FANBOYS and their lies make me sick - can't anyone and everyone enjoy what they got and shut their ***** mouths !! their all good consoles in their own way - mokkos, on 10/10/2007, -14/+20http://www.vgchartz.com/methodology.php
Summary: VGchartz ignores the hard data given by the videogame console manufacturers as required by law and comes up with its own numbers by small sampling and estimates. In other words, much less accurate than pure shipment numbers. VGChartz exist purely to add gasoline to a raging flame of fanboy wars. - aywwts4, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8Well... Actualy they lose money either way, They make it up on game sales, And monkeys don't buy Resistance.
- MattEaston, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Those are official sales numbers GameFace, nobody is making anything up here
- xerus, on 10/10/2007, -6/+11Congrats! You win a date with Kaz Hirai!
- locd32, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4uradox have you ever heard of LEAN logistics? Look it up, warehouses are basically large staging areas. Get with the times.....
- hassanchop13, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7regardless of whose right and whose wrong, i dont exactly trust that site. link to credible sources please.
- dysonlu, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7That's Q1 '07 sales figure, dude.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7It doesn't matter who's wrong or right...just beat it...beat it beat it...
- kkaabboomm, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7"highly doubt it has taken them this long to ship 500,000 consoles to retailers."
then you highly doubt sony's 1Q financial report, where they shipped 741,000 ps3's for the entire quarter! - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -8/+12And shipped is the same as sold. Sony isn't taking them back and they are not on consignment.
- Abno, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5No, the source is IGN. It even says that at the bottom of the page you linked to.
http://ps3.ign.com/articles/808/808656p1.html - schoate09, on 10/10/2007, -7/+11truespector posts, estvir diggs. Two MS Fanboi's
- dysonlu, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4LOL. I have all three systems. Contrary to you, poor knucklehead, I can afford them. Whereas you, you had to settle for the cheapest one. LOL. I play which ever one that has new good games. I haven't touched my Wii for a while now. I play BD with my PS3. Have you experiened HD Blu-ray movies? Think not. Maybe one day... maybe.
- GunOfTheMartyr, on 10/10/2007, -6/+9I'm going to illustrate this using my local Best Buy. I walked into Best Buy last week. I do my normal thing. Peruse CDs and DVDs, then I hit games. I browse up and down one isle which contains all Nintendo games/consoles and all PS2 games/consoles, I see no Wiis. Go to the next isle over which is 360 games/consoles and an open area which transitions into car speakers. I go through and see no 360s. I look to my left in the open area. There, in the open area, is a fort made of PS3 boxes. There must've been at least 20 consoles comprising this fort, there was even an entrance. I find this an accurate representation of the console war.
- DangerMouse9, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4So are they going to subtract all the Xbox360s that were returned because of their failure rate? If we're talking install base and you're arguing shipped vs. sold, be sure to remove all those XBox 360s that have been returned.
- hbeierg, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5with all those [pic] tags digg could really use a picture section
- Optimaximal, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5In the EU/UK, there are hundreds of Wii (is that a plural?) available... my local independent game store has a plethora in stock and the phone shop over the road (JAG) is handing them out with new contracts straight from their back room.
- staticneuron, on 10/10/2007, -3/+6People have a short memory http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=conewsstory&refer=conews&tkr=6758:JP&sid=a7dCM63nwUw8 5.5 million were shipped by march 31st. Anti-Sony people were celebrating the fact that they missed their shipment targets of 6 million then. I highly doubt it has taken them this long to ship 500,000 consoles to retailers. I am going to accept this as sold while all the naysayers with short memories can continue to spin so they can console themselves.
http://digg.com/gaming_news/The_PS3_truth_comes_out_Sony_missed_shipping_targets_by_500_000 - dysonlu, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4OK, so let's just focus on one simple thing: the 6M figure on the slide. Is that shipped or sold units? Never mind whether the number is fake or not. My point is: the slide states "Installed Base". What does that mean to you? Does it mean "shipped units"? No. So what in the slide could possibly suggests the number meant shipped units, smartass? Nothing. You basically pulled all your BS out of your ass. BTW, playing Brain Age doesn't necessarily mean you're smart -- it could mean you're just TRYING to get smart.
- felyduw, on 10/10/2007, -5/+8Hopefully this will make you understand what they're on about:
http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z104/Sqrl_VGC/nowdoyougetit-1.jpg
PS3 has sold 3.8M worldwide. - samdu, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5You forgot to put anything with "AMAZING" in your list. Thus, your list am fail.
- Shirk, on 10/10/2007, -4/+7The $500-$600 PS3 price tag at Target is like having an $80k BMW at a Hyundai dealership.
- NeoTechni, on 10/10/2007, -7/+9Um, Wii is no different. When Nintendo says sold, they also mean sold to retailers as it's impossible to track how many are sold to customers
- iceperson, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5If they are within 10-15% at any given time then the margin of error is 20-30%. I woudn't brag about that...
