- EDmAN, on 11/03/2007, -4/+61NY Times might not be the magazine for gaming guru's, but when they're right they're right. Ratchet and Clank is an amazingly beautiful game. The enviorments are big, and everything comes together perfectly to deliver an almost CG movie like look. Even reveiwers who didn't give it a 9+ still had nothing bad to say about the games visuals. I have played through most of the game and I would give the game a 9 or better. The only disappointment I had with the visuals is the water and rain.
- amrush4th, on 11/03/2007, -2/+44This has nothing to do with companies, consoles, or who/what your a fan of. This is about great games. This is a great game and we should all be excited the gaming industry is producing at this level.
- chocobomog, on 11/03/2007, -4/+44No, but they are a major part of the mainstream media which usually only features games when they are blamed for violence and murders. It is nice finally having a positive story on them for once.
- jontando, on 11/03/2007, -3/+42Digg is ridiculous.
I understand the mob mentality, I really do, but the back and forth of fanboyism is out of control.
R&C is phenomenal, no matter what platform it is released on. Too much talent went into this release for anybody to say any of the Sony vs. MicroSoft vs. Nintendo ***** *****.
Stop it.
You are all better than this.
At least I hope you are. - Barnolde, on 11/02/2007, -4/+38The amount of PS3 hate is astounding. It starts at $400, has a ton of games, it's powerful, future-proof and it doesn't ***** break randomly.
- onionoino, on 11/03/2007, -0/+28Having played all the other rachet games except for deadlocked, i am really regreting not owning a ps3 to get a chance to play this game. Insomniac does it again
- dsmx, on 11/03/2007, -1/+24It's why the gamespot review sucks so badly there is nothing bad about this game yet they scored it 7.5. Is gamespot filled with people who are xbox fanboys or am I missing something here?
- staticneuron, on 11/02/2007, -2/+25We don't like that kind of talk around here. If you want to tell the truth go somewhere else
- rusty123jimi, on 11/03/2007, -2/+21Now that we see this games in action, can I please stop hearing all of that "PS3 is simply not as powerful as the 360....the ram this...the processor that...no good games...," none sense about the PS3 anymore. Ratchet actually proves something for the PS3 for a change. I think its time to respecting everyone for what console and games they choose to own, and go and play the heck out of your investment!
Remember though...competition makes could games...we need Sony & Microsoft fight like little school girls like this! - Cloned, on 11/03/2007, -1/+20I always loved Ratchet and Clank. It is an amazing game and, just like the review said, you feel like you're watching a movie. The only thing that dissappoints me is that I don't have a PS3 to play it on.
- Spuy767, on 11/03/2007, -1/+18Great games indeed, and insomniac appears to invariably create great ones, from the more child-oriented Spiro, to the Over the top Resistance:FoM. It would also appear that insomniac is the only company content to learn to program the new system instead of whining about how hard it is. What happens when you learn to exploit the resources at your disposal? It would appear that you hit two home runs in a row.
- staticneuron, on 11/05/2007, -1/+17R&C is not an 8 hour game. Most reviews peg it at 12. Even as such the game has many secrets and an amazing amount of replay.
- inactive, on 11/03/2007, -0/+14Why? Only one game is allowed to be lushly compelling?
- brufleth, on 11/14/2007, -0/+14R&C games have always had high replay value because of all the extra achievements and collectibles you can find. You're also comparing FPS to a platform game. Different genre and while I've loved every R&C game I've played (not just for the visuals but for the actual game play) I can't even look at a FPS without getting bored. I also find it odd that your list of FPS includes games which primarily just offer stunning visuals over their predecessors.
- JLecker, on 11/03/2007, -1/+14From what it sounds like, Insomniac has really raised the bar with this game. It doesn't matter what system you root for--every gamer wins when developers push the bounds of what is possible with the current technology. I may be a Nintendo fanboy, but I've gotta say:
Keep doing what you're doing, Insomniac! - tastypastry, on 11/02/2007, -2/+14My girlfriend has been playing the demo a lot lately, guess that means I have to get it for her.
BTW I really like the game too. - dezman2003, on 11/01/2007, -3/+14Just because you're gay doesn't mean everyone else is.
/not that there's anything wrong with that. - hockey, on 11/12/2007, -3/+14If this were a game for the Wii that comment would have praised the NY Times for being an objective expert in the field of all things video gaming. . .
- kosan, on 11/14/2007, -0/+10"ESPECIALLY in light of all the other amazing games (with mucho replayability) that have hit the shelves as of lately (Bioshock, H3, TF2, Crysis, etc..)."
Nice argument there... Crysis has "mucho replayability"? I want to know your secret since i can't even seem to play it once since it hasn't been released yet. - blackhole82, on 11/03/2007, -0/+9I've played through a few hours already and must say it is a very good game. This is my first time playing a Ratchet and Clank too.
- diggrim, on 11/01/2007, -1/+10the videos looked cool but when I played the demo I was hooked. More game companies need to release demos...I don't care for game magazine bias reviews.
- volacide, on 11/03/2007, -1/+10That's ridiculous because take a look at the Halo series or Zelda series and watch them get great scores despite just being a visual improvement over the last game with the gameplay remaining the same. That being said Halo 3 is worlds better than the first 2 games, they finally got their act together in the level design dept.
75% is a bad score since gamers have become so dependent on buying games that only get 9s or perfect 10s since they are thrown around all too often. It's funny that you would bring this up just around the time that the article on why video game reviews are broken should surface. 7.5 is by no means a bad score, but in comparison to all the other games that fall short in the same areas as this game but get a better score just because they're hyped to all hell just doesn't work well for the system and in the end you have games that end up getting the ***** end of the stick. - frieddonuts, on 11/14/2007, -1/+10I found myself firing my guns at random objects just to watch the beautiful particle effects.
- EDmAN, on 11/14/2007, -1/+9I said I have played through most of the game, not I have watched through most of the game. The visuals are definately the games high point, but the gameplay is definately there too.
"The game is fun but not deserving of the marks it received...." I guess we are all entitled to our own opinions. Bioshock is boring and I haven't even made it past the first level (if there is levels) on my PC. I wish I would have never bought that game. So there, we both have opinions... - krazeguy, on 11/01/2007, -1/+9Sounds like a work of art. Can't wait to get my hands on it!
- santasing, on 11/03/2007, -0/+8Fess up, you just like to bash the PS3 every chance you get.
- GawtMilk, on 11/03/2007, -0/+8"...Game Rankings score of 9.0..."
"...no hotshot titles..."
You do sound like a fanboy does it again! - gte879p, on 11/02/2007, -1/+8I beat the game yesterday and have been playing it again on "challenge mode" and getting the omega versions of the weapons, all the gold bolts, and attempting some of the skill endeavors. I've logged faaaar more than the 9-10 hours everyone has been quoting (but I completely agree you can beat it in that time frame the first time through).
I have enjoyed this game very very much. And would recommend it to many different types of gamers.
I bought a ps3 to have a blue-ray player, it's nice to now be able to get a good game for it as well. - dsmx, on 11/03/2007, -2/+9The point I'm trying make is that halo 3 did nothing different from the previous 2 so why does it deserve it AAA on gamespot where as ratchet and clank did nothing new but did everything really well and received A. I don't mind the 7.5 I mind the fact that gamespot seems to have no consistency in it's reviews any more.
- Serapthi, on 11/02/2007, -2/+9At the moment, I wouldn't say a ton of games...but the rest is basically correct. The are a bunch of great games on the horizon though.
- frygar, on 11/04/2007, -3/+10....or for the 360. God, this site is so full of venom toward all things Sony. Thankfully, digg doesn't represent the real world.
- bilbravo, on 11/01/2007, -2/+8It does have compatibility with PS2 games... if you buy the 80GB model. Maybe you should retract your claim of "And features NO PS2 compatibility at all!"!!!
- zwaldowski, on 11/01/2007, -2/+8Man, and I can never get a PS3. I know how you feel.
- eryximachus, on 11/01/2007, -2/+7I don't think anyone really bashes the 360. It's a generational thing. Personally, being almost 30, I've seen what Microsoft has done to the world since I was a kid. I truly hate them with a passion and will never give them money, EVER.
Conversely, the DRM stuff just doesn't bother me. Having to decrypt a disc is a minor inconvenience. I've been thoroughly satisfied with every single Sony product I have purchased since I got a Walkman like 20 years ago. For some reason, the younger generation that trolls these sites just doesn't see Microsoft as the danger they really are. They look at a few good games, but miss how Microsoft has reduced diversity in every market they have entered. It shouldn't be any surprise to anyone that PC gaming has gone downhill the more and more Microsoft tries to control how games operate in their OS.
So, enjoy your games today just as some Corporate stooge enjoyed Microsoft Office 95. 10 years from now, if they win, you'll be doing the same *****. - Ohidjwae, on 11/01/2007, -1/+6Or $499 - The price came down last month.
- inactive, on 11/03/2007, -1/+6You could always join the army and go to Iraq if you want to play an adult game with realistic blood and gore. Hell you'll get paid to do it in the process, plus lobster and steak on Fridays, bonus!
- santasing, on 11/03/2007, -1/+6Or maybe it appeals to people who don't like running around and shooting at everything in sight.
- Abno, on 11/03/2007, -0/+4I would have guessed R&C F would appeal a lot to people who like running around and shooting everything in sight.
- Dracusis, on 11/03/2007, -3/+7No, he did, but he thought it was a still photograph.
If only he'd been looking for longer than a 30 seconds he might have seen a second frame being drawn.
Don't get my wrong, Crysis has the best visuals I've ever seen, but my E6600 @ 3.4Ghz and OCd 8800GTX can't run it well enough for me to consider buying it. - Serapthi, on 11/01/2007, -0/+4Same here, and I also played Size Matters on the PSP. If you haven't played it you need to. It's not from the same developers but it's just as good.
I think the Ratchet and Clank series is one of the few gaming series that I have consistently completed and replayed until I unlocked nearly everything - frobozz0, on 11/03/2007, -1/+5This is the best game I have played this year. A close second would be BioShock. I spend a lot of time just exploring the surroundings because they are, quite literally, better than anything I have ever seen before. And, as if that wasn't enough, the game play is EXACTLY what I wanted- Ratchet & Clank in HD.
Without question, this is the best PS3 game to date. It's also a contender for Game of the Year in my opinion. - zigspective, on 11/01/2007, -1/+4I don't really thing the ability to see this is a generation thing and I won't even knock the 360 but I too am wary of Microsofts tactics and therefore purchasing their products. While it is true that capitalism has become more about domination then competition, no company has the kill instinct quite like Microsoft, they don't consider anything successful until they have the monopoly.
- santasing, on 11/01/2007, -0/+3Agreed, I am on challenge myself. A little hint, if you need to make mucho dinero in a hurry, try Planet Mukow. I made about 9 mil bolts on just that planet. And I have probably spent more than 16 hours on R&C with just being about halfway through challenge mode. The unlockable are awesome. Just got the Helgast looking armor yesterday :-).
- fallenone05, on 11/03/2007, -0/+3All of sony exclusives are worth playing, except for Lair...and I know cause I own them all.
- Ashkc88, on 11/01/2007, -0/+3Their political bias has nothing to do with a video game. You're making us non-liberals look bad, so stfu.
- santasing, on 11/03/2007, -0/+2Good point Abno. Yea, I was wrong. But R&C has so much other stuff going for it. The only part I don't like is the mini games. BTW, has anyone ever liked mini games in video games.
- offspring06, on 11/02/2007, -0/+2OK Ann Coulter you had your say.
- Binarysolo, on 11/02/2007, -1/+2I was with you till you cracked on Bioshock.... Great game. It just doesn't hold your hand through the whole game so some people got bored or confused.
- nastri83, on 11/02/2007, -0/+1Actually I have a 60GB one that plays PS2 games fine. 400 bucks on ebay. It's either magic, or s1mph0ny is an idiot.
