- namtellum, on 07/15/2008, -4/+69Microsoft copied Sony by making a gaming console. Everyone copies everything, get a life.
- timusca, on 07/16/2008, -4/+51Another reason I don't regret selling my AppleTV to help pay for my PS3...
- KMartSheriff, on 07/16/2008, -3/+41Well you can do that with the 360 as wel-- oh, right.
Well at least the hard drives for the 360 aren't expensi- oh wait, damnit.
Well, if nothing else, at least Xbox LIVE is fre-- oh, *****. - TheDooku, on 07/16/2008, -0/+31Good thing you can swap it out for ANY 2.5" laptop drive...without voiding your warranty = )
- kewldewd, on 07/16/2008, -1/+29Only in the U.S
- MJG2007, on 07/16/2008, -2/+29All in all, I'm very pleased with my PS3 purchase. I can stream movies and audio from my computer into my living room, browse the internet (I hooked up a wireless keyboard and mouse I had laying around), watch bluray movies/dvd, and play video games (although honestly, I don't play as much as I used to). And now this. A very nice machine with very good capabilities for the price.
- Jon771, on 07/16/2008, -5/+26Microsoft didn't invent video downloads you fraking idiot
- mentallyinhell, on 07/15/2008, -2/+23***** fanboys.
- TitanX7, on 07/16/2008, -4/+22You had an Apple TV!?!?!?!?!?!?
- exomni, on 07/16/2008, -6/+24$3-$6 for a RENTAL? $10-$15 for a DOWNLOAD? Are these people out of their ***** minds?
I'll pass. - WhereAmI, on 07/15/2008, -2/+18I thought downloadable content was the future and PS3 will fail miserably because they don't have it and only Blu-Ray.
Now we have both.
Also: iTunes? - darkervisions, on 07/16/2008, -0/+16Time to upgrade from 56k.
- Ramenhood, on 07/16/2008, -1/+17Who in the ***** would buy movies for the same price you can get them at the store, only you won't get to have the case and the actual disk.
- kingpowrie, on 07/15/2008, -1/+17what?
since yesterday?
grow up you loser, brand loyalty is for suckers.
if they needed to, microsoft, sony or nintendo would kill you and everyone you care about - Jon771, on 07/16/2008, -3/+18and psp......
- alexkball, on 07/16/2008, -1/+15This will sure be great once ISPs start capping bandwidth and no one can afford to download anything anymore.
- GregFD3S, on 07/16/2008, -9/+22HD + Cheaper than Netflix on Xbox == w00t!
- flamov, on 07/16/2008, -3/+16The internet has have video downloads for 10 years now...
- acevoncash, on 07/16/2008, -0/+12yeah how do you figure its cheaper... ones subscription is pay per play. apples and oranges.
- Malarie, on 07/16/2008, -0/+11When is this coming out in Canada?
- KMartSheriff, on 07/16/2008, -2/+13No, sorry, ***** that. If I'm going to pay $15 for one movie, I'll want the box and everything else with it.
- GodsDragon, on 07/16/2008, -1/+12Does this work in Canada?
if( answer = "yes"){
woot;
}else{
peanuts;
} - Terrk, on 07/16/2008, -3/+13You still have to pay per download.
I enjoy paying a monthly fee and being able to watch as many movies as I want, that is what they really need. - sint4x, on 07/16/2008, -1/+11Nope. The store is region locked: http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2008/07/16/psn-video-stor ...
- xboxing, on 07/16/2008, -2/+11I downloaded the HD version of Beowulf this morning and it took a little over 3 hours to complete and the file was over 7GB, not bad at all. I saw quite a few other movies on there I'm going to rent. I'm really excited they finally launched it. Yeah, its not Netflix, but I mostly game on my PS3, so movies for me is just an added bonus.
- acevoncash, on 07/16/2008, -0/+9also no special features. and most possibly lower res / more compression.
- altgeeky1, on 07/16/2008, -0/+9Rental by mail is convenient ONLY when compared to getting in your car and going to a junky video store.
"on demand" is much more convenient than mail.
I think you knew this, but compulsively posted your question anyways. The answer is that obvious.. - sint4x, on 07/16/2008, -1/+8Welcome to... Capped Canada.
It is ok though, we are protected by not having these services. - cerealjynx, on 07/16/2008, -1/+8Or you can download the movies and sync your PS3 to your computer!
Theoretically. - LoudMusic, on 07/16/2008, -0/+7Ah *****, there's another thing going to kill the internet. Fiber to the house! Gigabit for everyone! Come on!
- sonicjosh, on 07/16/2008, -0/+6But there is one key advantage if you own a PSP, take your movies with you.
- phinn, on 07/17/2008, -1/+7So Playstation 3 now has lots of awesome games, Blu-ray movie player (with 1080p and TrueHD), DVD up conversion, streaming movies/videos/pix, free online gaming, and downloadable HD movies and TV shows transferable even to PSP? Sold.
- flamov, on 07/16/2008, -1/+7had*
- mt3ch, on 07/16/2008, -0/+6Inaccurate. Sony's pricing structure is nearly identical to Microsoft's already in place video marketplace. Both services offer a $3-6 price range for SD-HD movies. And as for netflix, it can easily be cheaper if you watch enough movies. For $50 dollars a year + $9 a month, which comes out to roughly $13 dollars a month, you have access to netflix - and many already have a netflix account. Just stating the facts.
- spacebuddy, on 07/16/2008, -0/+6With the PS3 you can easily pop out the Hard Drive and stick a 120G drive in :)
- KMartSheriff, on 07/16/2008, -0/+6Yeah, I don't get it either. I mean I want digital downloads to be awesome, but they way they're being offered right now, they're just not (no matter who you buy it from).
- MJG2007, on 07/17/2008, -0/+5I stream them using a program called TVersity which allows me to stream all kinds of content to my ps3 from my main computer. No Linux required.
- superkendall, on 07/16/2008, -0/+5I might download every now and then, but agree that almost always I would chose to wait a day for Blu-Ray and get higher quality along with extras, rather than pay quite a bit to download a rental.
- norman619, on 07/16/2008, -5/+10Wow how dare you speak common sense to fanboys...
- xsecretfiles, on 07/16/2008, -2/+7oh man, my 40 gig hard drive is not enough anymore!
- Yareking, on 07/16/2008, -7/+12not canada
***** sony - roflsd, on 07/16/2008, -1/+6That makes no sense at all.
- stageidea, on 07/16/2008, -0/+5Magnavox Odyssey was the first gaming console... So I don't think it really matters who invented the console at this point...
- johnmalc, on 07/15/2008, -1/+6I'm really stoked for the HD downloads though. I'm not even going to stir the pot by asking if they have HD on...
/yes, I dipped in for a taste - kingpowrie, on 07/16/2008, -1/+6why wouldn't you?
i guess they will be in full HD - exomni, on 07/16/2008, -6/+10I pay $9 a month for Netflix.
Say I rent four movies a month average. That's $2.25 a pop.
Plus I get unlimited time to view my videos, I get to watch them as many times as I want, I get all the extras and bonus features, I get it in much higher quality, with a wider selection, and I get instant streaming to my Roku box, my computer, or my Xbox 360. Not to mention access to a great community website full of fantastic features.
I don't see how the 260% jump in price justifies itself when the service is obviously inferior. - Todesengelvr6, on 07/16/2008, -1/+5ALL the blockbusters and Hollywood videos around me are $6.50 to rent a blu-ray movie.
- dcmjzero, on 07/16/2008, -0/+4@sint4x
you could use a us-based proxy... - xboxing, on 07/16/2008, -2/+6Same price? It was 5.99 to rent.
