- Superman007, on 12/18/2007, -3/+36Nice update. The next update will be when we finally get Home, I would assume. Can't wait. DIVX support is an awesome addition.
- coheedcollapse, on 12/18/2007, -2/+31Both Divx and Xvid files work without transcoding! This is awesome! No more process-hogging transcoding while watching stuff on the TV anymore.
- hightower77, on 12/18/2007, -2/+28I didn't think getting your XBOX back from Microsoft was considered an Upgrade.
- coheedcollapse, on 12/18/2007, -0/+24What are you talking about? My divx avi files play fine as .avi. Maybe I'm just not understanding what you mean.
- Superman007, on 12/18/2007, -6/+23Can play AVI files by renaming them from .avi to .divx.
Copyright-protected files or files that were encoded by using DivX 3.11 cannot be played. - Files that are 2GB or more cannot be played. - kenvsryu, on 12/18/2007, -3/+18the new visual player
http://ps3mods.blogspot.com/2007/12/new-music-visu ... - mooninite, on 12/18/2007, -0/+15That's because you don't understand how it works.
Buy default, the PS3 looks for a "VIDEO" (case is important) folder for video titles. If you just press X without having a VIDEO folder, it will say "No titles found," which is why you have to hit triangle and "Display all."
People need to RTFM. The PS3 forums are this bad, too. "OMG HOW DU U PLAYZ BLUE-RAYZ MOVIZZ" - coheedcollapse, on 12/18/2007, -0/+13I don't have any specific stats, but a majority of my divx and xvid files are playing with no snaggles at all. I had a problem getting one of my xvid files to run and I have literally no idea why it happened.
- TjLAXattack, on 12/18/2007, -2/+15You can now play your PSone downloadable games and your PS1 game discs via remote play!!
This is insane. No gaming news sites have picked up my thread over at the forums.

I have confirmed the downloadable games... will try PS1 game discs later today! - Superman007, on 12/18/2007, -0/+12The beta is set for next month. I would expect that to be the next upgrade. Not the full Home program. :p Sorry, if it came off that way.
- signal15, on 12/18/2007, -1/+13I wouldn't say that. I think there are few good games out there now, but that is changing. It will continue to change more and more as Sony continues to move them off the shelves quickly. The media center works just fine, and is even better with Divx support. An in game crossbar would be nice though.
Hardware-wise, it's light years ahead of the Wii and the 360, and it will not become "obsolete" for a good amount of time after the 360 and Wii are doorstops. - coyote1284, on 12/18/2007, -0/+11Time to play "Spot the Fan-boys"!
- ibeetle, on 12/18/2007, -1/+12The PSP has also been updated. The Internet Radio is really cool.
- iRoy, on 12/18/2007, -1/+11.avi works and that's all that matters.
The coolest part about this update is the Earth visualizer. Play a song and press Square to see what I'm talking about, I've been staring at it all morning. - inactive, on 12/18/2007, -0/+8i am watching right now :)
- charlescheese, on 12/18/2007, -0/+8I love the new visualizer. I hope Sony does more of these. I use my PS3 as my music playback device on my home stereo, and it's nice to get some new options. I'm a space buff, so this new earth from space visualizer is really making me happy right now.
- charlescheese, on 12/18/2007, -3/+11This just in, the Jaguars suck. Go Pack!
- zoomtechtv, on 12/18/2007, -1/+8I have downloaded XVID and H264 and WMA files from http://www.revision3.com/ and have not had a problem. The 1up show I download the WMA file but could not download H264 file. Ps3 now support all video types but some websites might have problems with the PS3 browser. Digg no longer works with the Ps3 browser anymore.
- Keyframe, on 12/18/2007, -0/+7The only game i know that supports your own music is "High Velocity Bowling."
- saggygrandma, on 12/18/2007, -5/+12Can someone please post up DIVX compatibility results before the fanboys catch wind and clutter up the comments.
- DTJunkie07, on 12/18/2007, -3/+9Dugg for the word "Slug" and uhh PS3 does.
- Sabin, on 12/18/2007, -0/+6Have fun at the first disc swap
- charlescheese, on 12/18/2007, -0/+6I've only had my PS3 lock up on me once in a year and it was on the incomplete Burnout Paradise demo (which is a superb game).
- Omis, on 12/18/2007, -2/+8Ok I know some of you slugs have both the 360 and PS3. So which one does divx better?
- Superman007, on 12/18/2007, -1/+7To play VC-1 (WMV) format files, you must go to Settings > [System Settings] and set [Enable WMA Playback].
- Copyright-protected files or files that were encoded by using DivX 3.11 cannot be played. - Files that are 2GB or more cannot be played. - charlescheese, on 12/18/2007, -0/+6:( I guess I'm thinking more of the Home Beta, I sure hope we get that before April. I'm going to go back to dreaming now. :)
- kingmanic, on 12/18/2007, -1/+6How many of your avi's are DivX DRM'd and how many are over 2 gigs? I'm at 0/0. Sort of making a big deal out of two uncommon cases.
- sHockz, on 12/18/2007, -5/+10yay! time to hit up thepiratebay...need test content :)
//search *.avi - samdu, on 12/18/2007, -0/+5XviD works for me. At least on the file that I tried. More than likely it depends on the settings chosen during the encode.
- charlescheese, on 12/18/2007, -3/+8Mmm...I can see it now, Home on Christmas! Hey last year we got GT HD for free. This year could be Home for Christmas. It would be all too fitting.
- Zamfir, on 12/18/2007, -1/+6All the time I've spent reading your comments on digg is a sad waste of my life that ... I will never get back :(
- ahhhrn, on 12/18/2007, -0/+5Your computer is hooked up to a ***** Bravia which means you already watch your files on a TV. Idiot.
- musters, on 12/18/2007, -3/+7When I play my .avi divx files off of a memory stick, the files do not show up. However, pressing 'Triangle' and choosing 'Display all files', all my .avi's show up and all play beautifully. Thank you Sony!
So everyone, if you can't see your files, select 'Display all files'. - volacide, on 12/18/2007, -0/+4Sony has the coolest visualizers I've ever seen. They look ten times cooler than the 360 kaleidescope visualizers. Even the ones on the PSP look kick ass.
- inactive, on 12/18/2007, -4/+8PS3
- pcgeek101, on 12/18/2007, -4/+8PS3
- RolltheStampede, on 12/18/2007, -0/+4whoo hoo, im gonna pop in FF7 while im on vacation

- sonicjosh, on 12/18/2007, -0/+4Turn off the information board.
- Dracusis, on 12/18/2007, -0/+3If I was considering getting a console this xmas knowing it now has DivX support would be very relevant to me.
Burried because you're too ***** short-sighted to believe others think differently to you. - blackhole82, on 12/18/2007, -0/+3Already tried out the new DivX support. It works like a charm.
- KyleMistry, on 12/18/2007, -0/+3Check inside the disc drive. :}
- samdu, on 12/18/2007, -0/+3That game is entirely too easy. :)
- WhereAmI, on 12/18/2007, -0/+3Go play in the street.
- MiDri, on 12/18/2007, -0/+2ohhh burn!
- bocaJWho, on 12/18/2007, -2/+4THIS BREAKS LINUX RSX SUPPORT
As discussed towards the bottom of this forum thread - http://forums.ps2dev.org/viewtopic.php?t=8364&star ... - this update patches a hole that PS3 linux developers were using to access the PS3 3D hardware. If you use linux on the PS3, don't get this update (at least not yet).
Sorry for a bit of reply abuse, but with over 50 comments already, and no one mentioning this, thought it was warranted. - arTech, on 12/18/2007, -1/+3And you're buried for not knowing how to use Digg not to display PS3 stories since you don't like them.
- inactive, on 12/19/2007, -0/+2PS3 stopped working like that ages ago, it defaults to showing all files now
- theaceoffire, on 12/18/2007, -0/+2They also fixed a smaller issue: when you organize videos by album, the icons animate now!
- tommybear, on 12/19/2007, -0/+2The divx playback on PS3 is certified by divx. It is not ceritified on the 360. Some divx files will not play on the 360 correctly, and not just because they are copy-protected. Also developers on the ps3 can now use divx for their games.
