Newest PS3 COD4 Hackers Caught on Tape

youtube.com — Last night gamer PSN ID: excursel caught a new set of hackers on tape. It seems they have found a way to be part of the game while spectating the only issue is they hid there ids and themselves.

        Exploiting the game, though, when not ruining other peoples experience, I think is enjoyable. It's like trying to find a loop hole in the logic of the game. I actually hate it when they patch these glitches cuz then it feels like they cut you off from exploring alot of possibly cool things.

      Getting a rise out of people, attention, and causing frustration for others are the main reasons.

There are enough people playing that game that there is a constant churn of people "discovering" the cheat and trying it out for a couple / few games for a laugh. I'm sure there are a few who do it repeatedly to be an ass about it, but I'm willing to bet that most of what you see is just people dorking around for a couple of games to try it. Of course, in MY day, we played around with that crap in private games, but that is harder and harder to two with a central bank of servers.
        What I find far more annoying are the people that exploit every idiosyncrasy of the game to get the maximum advantage in a "friendly" game. The old "jump-crouch-shoot" comes to mind.

      The integrity of all the games is undermined by this.

        Its up to the studio who made the game to determine to use just plain text protocols in game which would be a big mistake. And why would the studio just use plain text when running on ps3.. why wouldnt they do it on xbox as well?

        Its most likely an easter egg some developer put in the game.

Even then (2001), if you went to a well-admined server, it was minimal. COD4 on PC, I simply haven't seen any cheating. Maybe I'm just lucky

      • j0keR, on 04/24/2008, -0/+1Some friends of mine had a team that made it very far in CAL while cheating. Even CAL-i players have been kicked out for cheating. The only legitimate competitive play is LAN, and I've seen cheats for that too, and have even heard of high level players getting caught. In some games, if you play for long enough you can discover your own glitches that can be exploited without others realizing it. As somebody who has been pro-level gaming for the last 8 years I can say with complete certainty that gaming has one of the highest ***** factors. If you're into competition you are far better off finding a different hobby/sport... Or taking up programming and making your own cheats.

        There will always be people who find game-bugs and use them to their advantage -- but that is not what is taking place here (or what takes place on PSN quite a lot).

        But in seriousness. Hacking and Cracking in this instance are on in the same. Outside of modification to online games, "Crackers" are people who compromise the security of files to modify their contents to preform a certain task. "Hackers" are people who brute-force a program to preform a certain task, whether this is from a few byte changes or there's a separate program enforcing the task.

Surely they don't think that the fact that they have managed to exploit some glitch in the game makes them good at the game. When I play a game, the pleasure of winning is derived from my skill or strategy, not if I have some hack to ensure victory. Exceptionally lame.

Last night there were 3 matches I played where the host that was chosen revealed they had very slim upstream speeds, around 256Kbps to 384Kbps, yet my buddy with FiOS (~15Mbps upstream), was never chosen to host. It was Laaaaaagggg-fest 2008.
      I also hope a new patch can fix when you back out of a game to find a new group of people to play against and you are shoved right back into the SAME GAME!!! That's why I played 3 games on that terrible host because everytime I left to find a new group, it put me back in.
      Oh, and take off the Martyrdom perk for the love of GOD!
      • XtremeBug, on 04/24/2008, -0/+2Upload speed does not matter as much as ping does. I've monitored my network when hosting games on XBL, and it usually only hovers around 20KBps (160Kbps). Thing is though, is that I have very low latency (getting 10ms to google right now), so chances are, I'd be able to host a better server than someone with 15Mb upload, even though I only have 1Mb.

        That being said though, I do agree that they need to work on the finding of hosts. If anything, let me at least be put in a server that is in my own country when originally searching for a game.

      I've seen some people do INSANE stuff with what seems to be a fully automatic USP in games, so I know that's a turbo controller. Same for the G3. It's not cheating, it's just...Cheap. Like cage matching for golden guns, it's not cheating, just cheap and easy.

      I've considered getting one, but the piece-o-***** Gamestop didn't have one, I didn't want to ride my bike to Gamecrazy, and I didn't feel like ordering one online. The controller I got with the PS3 is still working perfectly tho.

I also feel that if you see people doing this you should file a complaint too. We made that mod for private games so you can have fun with your friends not so you could waist everyone in the game. Also our mod is more then just turbo trigger, we can program macros like switching to the pistol and unloading it and then flipping back to primary gun with the push of one button!

It may help you win more often, but... here's the key.... it's not YOU that's getting better. I went to join a game and was too late or something so I ended up spectating which I didn't even know you could do. It was interesting to see since I need some tips on what the hell to do to not die in two seconds but I was booted, I wonder if the host freaked out because of this. I never tried to shoot or interfere but that would be hilarious if it wasn't unsporting, and yes I also despise anyone who cheats I mean what the hell is the point of cheating?
    This was on an Xbox360 not a PS3.

    My friend and I played these cheaters in VT3 who were doing ridiculous drop shots that drop dead near the net, power shots that come with unusually high speed that its tough to return, super slice serves that throw you so far out the court.
    Anyways, we persevered and we actually beat them. We changed strategy by lobbing and doing different things to throw them off and we won. Yes !!!! I can't tell you how excited we were to beat those cheaters. Awesome feeling.

      3. The relaxation from ENJOYING a good game

      Cheaters are like losers in the freeway that travel slow in the passing lane just to tick people off. Calling them "losers" is an insult to those poor people who just can't help it that they don't have the hand-eye coordination to compete.

    • Lanketer, on 04/25/2008, -0/+2Yeah it was pretty ridiculous , the ps3 cod4 game save wasn't write protected, and you could edit cvars the game used, (change bullet tracer size, jump height, acceleration ect). If you ended up being the host of the game, your edited game save applied the cvars to everybody. There were some cvars that could be used without being host, like adding a laser to your gun and having enemy names appear through walls. The best cvar edit was taking advantage of the slight auto aim feature. You could change the radius of the target zone, which basically resulted in auto aim. Those cvars are still built into the game, and I'm sure with a little ingenuity they will come back.
