- Shogi, on 05/04/2009, -13/+67Please don't Sony. Motion control is stupidly over rated.
- apena89, on 05/04/2009, -14/+46Motion controls, wayyyy better graphics than the Wii, and potential 3D games? Sony may have something available only on the PS3.
- nickert0n, on 05/04/2009, -7/+35I don't like the direction E3 is "moving"!
- Mtown, on 05/04/2009, -4/+31If they had this feature from release, the only thing that would be different is that the PS3 would have a ton of crap shovelware games like the Wii does, and almost all games would be built around using this feature.
Using the Wiimote on the wii is generally fun and all, but I'll be damned if I had to play uncharted by pointing and clicking to shoot enemies on the screen. And how fun would Burnout be if you had to use the "PS3wheel"? It would be a nightmare. - PlusTheBear, on 05/04/2009, -18/+42Why not add features years too late.
- robbob, on 05/04/2009, -5/+27Another example how the Wii has changed the game
- gumballer, on 05/04/2009, -2/+21Bring back the boomerang controller
- strictnein, on 05/04/2009, -3/+20The item pictured in the image is not real.
- phpirate, on 05/04/2009, -3/+16***** casual gaming.
- alphonse221, on 05/04/2009, -2/+14Can anyone say, "Hmmm, that's obviously a mock-up"?
- anexanhume, on 05/04/2009, -3/+14Perhaps it's the industry's dark humor that they require motion controls of one of the most stereotypically uncoordinated bunch of humans on the planet.
- LostOverThere, on 05/04/2009, -8/+18Aren't Microsoft also intended to announce motion controls are E3 this year? And then Nintendo show off their new MotionPlus?
Time for a pun about E3 and motion controls, me thinks. - tacojohn48, on 05/04/2009, -4/+14When you think about the 10 year product life cycle Sony was talking about then maybe it isn't too late. Imagine the controls of the Wii with a blu-ray player. Also the PS3 should have the processing power to do more accurate movement tracking. I would also like to add that I am not a PS3 fanboy. I am a happy with my Wii.
- FrankTheTank17, on 05/04/2009, -3/+13Do you honestly think that's what a motion sensor controller would look like for PS3? Of course it's a photoshop job. >_>
- strictnein, on 05/04/2009, -5/+14Not all change is for the best.
- kmoed, on 05/04/2009, -8/+16But all PS3 fans think waving there arms about during a game is really stupid and just a dumb gimmick for non "hardcore" gamers.
- bluerei, on 05/04/2009, -2/+10@PeanutCheeseBar: You honestly thought that was the official design? Are you that gullible? That image wasn't even made by Sony.
- deweyhewson, on 05/04/2009, -1/+9By appealing to the lowest common denominator of "gamers" - and I use that term loosely - by providing gimmicky motion sensing and 95% crapware? Forgive me for being critical, but the Wii is fun for all of a month for anyone who plays more than Wii Sports, at which point I sold mine.
I will agree they have changed the game, but not for the better. - nickert0n, on 05/04/2009, -4/+11Yeah it would be sweet but I hope they don't ditch Dual Shock 3 support.
Cause I don't want to waggle on my PS3. - FrankTheTank17, on 05/04/2009, -1/+8Just give us keyboard/mouse support for all games and I'll be ecstatic.
- xdevit, on 05/04/2009, -0/+7Believe Sonii works better.
- tacojohn48, on 05/04/2009, -0/+7diggduggdoom - It is hard to develop for the PS3 this would make it hard and expensive to develop shovelware for. The Wii is easier to develop for as it is a more conventional system
- Mtown, on 05/04/2009, -14/+20I like the PS3 and all, but if this is true i think it's a dumb move.
What would come out of it? The ability to play FPS's by pointing a remote at your TV screen? Instead of that, I'd rather have more PS3 FPS's with keyboard and mouse support (which the PS3 can already do, but for some reason hardly any developers take advantage of it).
Plus thats just another thing to buy. First there were 6-axis controllers, then they moved up to Dualshock 3, and now they expect us to buy the PSWIImote? The console is already expensive enough. And God help us if any sort of nunchuck-like attachment is sold separately from the remote itself.
IF and ONLY if this supposed wiimote-like thing is used solely for navigating the XMB/DVD/Blu-ray menus, I could see it being a success. It's annoying having to use a controller to navigate that stuff and the PSstore would be way cooler if you could just use a wiimote clone to point and click on stuff (although a mouse would work equally as well). You'd only need one and it wouldn't be necessarily.
But if it's intended for future games, it's gonna flop. Remember how long it took rumble to get patched into all those old games? And remember last summer the PS3 was finally able to support trophies? Well 9 months later some games are still being released with no trophy support. Think how long it will take them to add PS3mote controls to past and future games.
The only reason why motion controls work on the Wii is because it's basically a gamecube with an internet connection. Without the motion controls, that thing would be dead and gone. Plus the nature of the games suits wiimote action better. It's fun using the wiimote in games like mario party or whatever, but do you think I want to making waggles and gestures while playing Killzone 3? Hell no. A few FPS's and other "hardcore" games on the Wii have pulled off wiimote use pretty well, but this is only because they would be completely terrible and forgettable if they used a standard controller.
I'm bashing the Wii. It's a fun system and is pretty innovative. I'm also not against the wiimote. Some PS3 games (like littlebigplanet or Buzz TV quizz) would work well with it. But it's just once you stick some sort of motion control onto a console, developers tend to focus building games around the feature, instead of finding a good way to use the feature in their game. (LAIR)
Idk, the only games I could think of that MIGHT gain some fun factor from a PS3mote is Littlebigplanet, PAIN, Heavy Rain, football games, and indie games like Flock or Flower. Everything else would be completely hindered by it. - RoroCo, on 05/04/2009, -1/+7Motion control is not the answer in the PS3/360/Wii story. Price point is. The PS3 and 360 introducing motion sensors won't help their market shares that much.
I for one either want motion control to get serious... or just go away. Right now it is stuck in this gimmick limbo that is a bit annoying and way to contrived. - inactive, on 05/04/2009, -0/+6Thank you for the completely made up statistic and facts.
- CoD4, on 05/04/2009, -2/+8Just give us a good table tennis game
- Induane, on 05/04/2009, -0/+6@diggduggDOOM The wii is designed to be a console that is easy to develop for. Writing applications for the PS3's cell processor is pretty tricky in a lot of ways. Compiling requires some kind of "octopiler" and the general design of it means that as a development platform its simply more difficult. The Wii is actually a souped up faster version of the GameCube and as such the developers transitioning from one to the other was actually fantastically simple.
- dogstylee, on 05/04/2009, -2/+7PS3 already has motion control.
It's just ***** *****. - sndream, on 05/04/2009, -8/+13So Sony gonna release a black coloured Wii-mote, neat....
Seriously though, six-axis are the most horrible control in this world. Last time I used it, I nearly wanted to throw the PS3 controller at my TV. - PlusTheBear, on 05/04/2009, -2/+7How sick would it have been if they released the PS3 with this technology, justifying the extra payment. I shouldn't HAVE to play Rayman to shoot things with motion control
- Chrysalii, on 05/05/2009, -0/+5yet the Wii has given Nintendo a license to print money.
and dragged Nintendo from the gutter (DS helped as well, if not moreso. But Nintendo has always been dominant in handhelds)
those games are still out there, WTF is wrong with Nintendo creating that market, no one is holding a gun to your head to buy a wii, and no one is stopping you from buying a PS3 or Xbox 360.
Why is it so wrong for Nintendo to be doing what they are? I still enjoy Wii sports, 2 years after I bought my Wii. does that make me less of a gamer somehow? does the fact that you think it's dumb make you better somehow? Or is it just insecurity?
I do understand why the Nintendo loyalists are mad. But your post doesn't sound like one, so I'll ignore that part.
...now to go clean out my shift key. - xsecretfiles, on 05/04/2009, -2/+7YaYY!!! let the Gimmick continue!!!!
- CNAIF, on 05/04/2009, -1/+6Maybe what you're slapping the controller with is too small.
- FredFredrickson, on 05/04/2009, -3/+8Simply put, this is idiotic.
- zarcu, on 05/03/2009, -6/+11Similar to the gun used for duck hunt, just much more advanced. XD
- Mtown, on 05/04/2009, -0/+5I see your point about how not basing the entire system around it is a good thing, but still i think it's too late for something like this to do any good. And just because it's "optional" doesn't mean motion-control schemes aren't going to get forced on us
Lair has been beaten to death, so I'll use another example. In Littlebigplanet, you had the ability to import textures and pictures into your levels, but ONLY if you use the PSeye. So I could have have 2Gb of images sitting on my PS3's harddrive, but if I wanted to stick any of them in Littlebigplanet I would have to use a flash drive to get it off, stick it into my computer, print the picture out, and then use the PSeye to take a photo of the printed image.
How big of pain is that? And for what? So Sony could sell a few more PSeyes?
The PSeye is cool and all, but when they force you to use them or lose out like that (want a platinum trophy in burnout? Well you better buy a PSeye cause some damn bronze trophy requires you have one!) it annoys me.
When I think about it I guess it would be cool for little games like nobynobyboy, or stuff like that, but in the end I think it will just be a colossal waste of Sony's money. - ShingoEX, on 05/04/2009, -3/+8Not really...no.
- RoroCo, on 05/04/2009, -3/+8Who are you kidding...? You never bought a 360 to begin with.
- inactive, on 05/04/2009, -4/+9You say a lot, but most of it isnt true.
You can use the wiimote / nunchuck to play with the motion sensors, OR:
1. You can turn the wiimote sideways and its pretty smiliar to a SNES controller
2. You can use gamecube controllers
3. You can use a wii-version of the SNES controller.
2 of the wii's best games (smash bros and mario kart) can be played completely without motion sensing. You obviously dont play Wii but seem to enjoy hating it.
You think you're going to see more successes on the PS3 and 360? Is that why Wii Sports is the #1 selling game of all time?
Or why if you look at this chart of game sales, in the last week the top sales have this breakdown:
http://www.vgchartz.com/weekly.php
wii: 15
ps3: 5
xbox: 15
Or if you look here at the top 10 selling games of 2008: http://www.gamedaily.com/articles/news/npd-nintend ...
Wii: 4
Xbox: 4
PS3: 1
if Wii isnt getting the hits, has boring games, and sucks at life, then why is it either on top of sales in consoles or tied for top in sales in games?
You: Wii sucks, PS3 and Xbox are wayyyy better.
Numbers: Wii is the most successful video game console ever made. - zosoIV, on 05/04/2009, -5/+9Say what you want, but this could be promising. The most fun game I've personally enjoyed on the Wii was Mario Galaxy or Metroid Prime 3, and I owe it to the graphics. I know gameplay is key here, but frankly, compared to PS3/360 the Wii is lacking.
Having these great visuals WITH motion control can be a great thing for Sony. Imagine Resident Evil 5 with point and shoot gameplay.
This is just MY opinion. - snobrder218, on 05/04/2009, -2/+6Maybe you need to look at the facts. Sony is only about 8-7 million units behind the 360, and that's ONLY because of the US Market. The PS3 is right on the tail of the 360 in Europe, and it's been dominating in Japan since day1.
Sure, the Wii is kicking some serious ass, but it's appealing to a different market and also appeals to almost everyone at the same time.
It's my opinion that the PS3 will not come in 3rd, it could even make a close 2nd. Do I care in the end? No, hell no. I'll play my PS3 as long as they keep making games, but by saying the PS3 is getting it's ass kicked is just ignorant and stupid fanboyism. - MEGACAMZ, on 05/04/2009, -1/+5Maybe this way Sony can steal a share of casual gaming from the Wii, other developers could release their stupid uninnovative games for the ps3 aswell as the Wii.
- SpectralWolf, on 05/04/2009, -0/+4Years too late? Like Wii's HD support that never came? Will it be years too late when it finally does come, fanboy?
- apena89, on 05/05/2009, -0/+4@dogstylee
okay. - Shazbuckle, on 05/04/2009, -1/+5Yeah it reads kinda strange without the "NOT"
;) - wolfing, on 05/04/2009, -0/+4it didn't change gaming, it just *added* gaming to a whole lot of people that normally wouldn't have, just like WoW introduced MMOs to millions of people
- danwallace, on 05/04/2009, -6/+10Stop being a pissy little fanboy. If something takes off in the gaming industry the way motion control has for Nintendo, it's bound to be replicated by its competitors. That's how a competitive industry works. You won't see anyone at Sony claiming this is a completely original move. MS is going to do the exact same thing with the 360.
- Mockylock, on 05/04/2009, -1/+5Microsoft's Motion patent was actually just for the "Lips" microphone, I believe.
- danwallace, on 05/04/2009, -2/+5Not only is that not the official design, but it's really the only design that works properly for something like that. It's a single-handed controller. Nintendo didn't invent it, it's been the standard shape and size of television remotes for years. Do you complain every time a new system comes out that features a controller that you hold with two hands, that has analog sticks, a d-pad and buttons?
Get out of the mindset that Nintendo is some close friend of yours that big bad Sony is ripping off. Both companies want nothing more than your money. I support Sony because I've enjoyed a lot of entertainment out of their products over the years and continue to do so to this day. - Mtown, on 05/04/2009, -1/+4Foolfoolz, Wii sales mean nothing. I was reading some other article and it mentioned how some crappy carnival minigame sold more copies than metroid prime 3.
Does that mean this terrible carnival game is more fun than Metroid prime? Hell no. All it means that way more Mom's thought Carnival Funtime or whatever the hell it's called was a better choice for their kids than Prime was.
Most of those games up on that list are not outstanding games. There are simply more people with Wii's to buy them. -
