- exomni, on 04/08/2008, -0/+5Rockstar has never announced which systems the video they release is for, they just say "a next gen console". But the earliest photos were on the 360 (for obvious reasons), so it's likely they kept going with that original build in mind.

Modern games are pretty because most of them are extremely linear and closed-world--when dealing with game design like that, think of it like setting up the facades inside a railcart ride at a theme park where they send you through a "haunted cavern" or something: When done right, they look entirely believable from the cart, but if you leave the cart and walk "behind the scenes" you see it's just cheap crap like hidden lightbulbs and mutli-sectioned cardboard cutouts. Same thing with the beautiful games like Call of Duty 4. Everything looks fantastic until you reach past the invisible walls, and then things begin to look stretched, bland and bad as you look behind buildings that are suddenly missing walls and details. Grand Theft Auto doesn't have that--you can go wherever you want, almost all of the time. This means the game has far more resources to load, as it can't just use cheap perspective cheats, and that, coupled with various other system strainers, like high numbers of moving AIs on screen at once, limit the visual prowess of the finished product. - dangerdooms, on 04/08/2008, -8/+12Try telling how big of a let down Halo 3 was to the 350,000 people I see playing every single night after school, because I don't think they got the memo...
