- mdavis, on 04/21/2008, -2/+50Snake? Do you read me? SNAKE? SNAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE?!?!?!
- idiggitall, on 04/21/2008, -0/+45It has nothing to do with PS3, but everything to do with Konami's servers.
Metal Gear Effect? - djSyndrome, on 04/21/2008, -7/+27Because the Halo 3 beta was released on time. Oh wait, no it wasn't.
- boombye, on 04/21/2008, -0/+19No I'm not, it's a beta, it's to be expected, these things aren't 100% smooth. Sometimes you need to take into account that a beta will never come out when you want it to, and sometimes getting access to it then is not always guaranteed. In this case, if you've got a code, you should really have no problem waiting. It's better they take their time on the beta, then just rushing out something unplayable. Yes sometimes I think of myself as a 360 fanboy, but this is no reason to make fun of the PS3, this is something that happens with betas from what I'm used to and have been involved with.
- schizogony, on 04/21/2008, -1/+19Is there any particular reason Konami didn't use PSN for their online play? Wouldn't it have solved this problem?
- bigbadgoat, on 04/21/2008, -4/+22Really? The Home Beta, that i'm still a part of and Warhawk Beta that I was a part of started up without much a hitch.
So, that's 1/3 that I've been a part of that didn't start up on time. - WildTurkey00, on 04/21/2008, -1/+19Why? . . . . it's just a video game.
- mrelusive, on 04/21/2008, -0/+14Because that would make sense. The Japanese insist on making things complicated.
- djSyndrome, on 04/21/2008, -0/+12Sorry Methos, but Truspector's right - Sony's pinning so much on this game that they're making it a pack-in in North America. It's the first time a third party game has been packed in with a Sony system. It may not be a multi-million blockbuster like the series you mentioned, but it's popular enough and it's the only AAA exclusive title coming for the PS3 this summer.
- truspector, on 04/21/2008, -2/+12MGS is regarded as one of the PS3's biggest games and the ultimate savior of the PS3. If that isn't a flagship title, WTF is?
- orangespanky, on 04/21/2008, -2/+9Sneak up? id say its more of a gigantic *****.
- Klarth, on 04/21/2008, -2/+9!

OMG you are so clever! Did you think that up all by yourself? Your mommy must be so proud of you!
Note to parents - please do not leave your kids unattended on the internet. Thank you. - rawg, on 04/21/2008, -1/+8Japanese developers don't have much experience with multiplayer online gaming, at least not on the scale that is popular in NA. It's evident in the numbers (online users are a much smaller percentage in JP than in the US) and in the awkward online features of the Wii and the PS3 at launch. Sony clearly had some problems initially but they seem to be catching up with the PSN store upgrade, in-game XMB and Home . They've even moved their Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) group, which created Final Fantasy Online and Everquest, under the SCEA Playstation group to get their best online guys working on PSN.
Individual developers still have some learning to do. It's clear from the ***** around the Konami id and now the delay of the beta that Konami didn't understand the expectations of the online gaming market and underestimated how important the online component of MGS would be for this generation. I'm sure they're working on fixing online. The delay is actually a good sign that someone inside Konami recognizes that they made some mistakes in planning thus requiring the delay to correct them.
Anyway, from what I've seen of the previews MGS4 single-player will be incredible so I'll be buying the game regardless. The online is a bonus. - santasing, on 04/21/2008, -2/+9Yea, XBox owners are laughing. Esp. since they can't be online seeing as how it is April 21 today with the second scheduled downtime for Live just in the month of April.
- Harrison88, on 04/21/2008, -3/+10You really expected it to go without any problems? One of the biggest game series with an open beta and no issues? Really?
- Elky25, on 04/21/2008, -0/+6FIRST it is a BETA to test out all the problems and what nots and i guess they underestimated EU's response. Im sure it will be worth it. Beta starts on the 25th now if everything goes to plan. BUT ITS A BETA FELLAS.
IMPORTANT NOTICE for all
METAL GEAR ONLINE PREMIERE BETA players
We would like to thank all players for their keen interest in taking part in the beta test.
However, we regret to inform you that due to extraordinary levels of traffic from all around the globe, we have been unable to run the service to the level we expected.
As a temporary measure, we will be deferring the European public beta test and start it once we stabilize our server.
We would like to apologize for all inconveniences as well as confusion caused.
We would like to add that due to the above reasons, we will be making the following changes to the schedule:
1) Start date: Planned for 04/25/2008 24:00(PDT). While the start is planned for the weekend, it may change due to unforseen circumstances.
3) Beta Test closure: This will now be on 05/11/2008 at 24:00(PDT) rather than 05/05/2008 at 24:00(PDT) - truspector, on 04/21/2008, -2/+8At least bungie got it fixed in ~24 hours instead of saying OMGWTF is going on. Konami has a proven track record of ***** online components, and I'd hate to see them screw up the PS3's flagship title because of it.
- GeekyGerge, on 04/21/2008, -0/+6The Sorrow needs to resurrect the Konami server.
- rezist, on 04/21/2008, -0/+5and smaller
- Rosco24, on 04/21/2008, -2/+7Correction: beta end date is MAY 11, not June. Hoping to get digg support to fix this soon.
- knowitman, on 04/21/2008, -1/+6This is a BETA. A beta is an incomplete version that is usually released for testing the product and ironing out any bugs and such. It's better this happens in beta so they have time to fix it rather then on June 12th.
- topbravo, on 04/21/2008, -0/+4They ran out of the philosopher's legacy money for the server upkeep.
- ZeroIce, on 04/21/2008, -0/+4I'm not worried. I am sure that it is worth the wait. Plus, this a beta and problems are to be expected. It's good to see all the interest in the game, though.
- inactive, on 04/21/2008, -0/+4The beta itself went fine, but the signup process wasn't smooth at all - crashing servers and such. Fortunately, they ended up just letting everyone in that signed up.
- truspector, on 04/21/2008, -0/+4See my comment above. MGS4 is the Jesus of the PS3.
- Abominous, on 04/21/2008, -0/+4Urg, was trying to get into this thing last night. Was frustrating as hell.
- insidher, on 04/21/2008, -0/+3What does this have to do with Sony? Its a problem exclusive to Konami and Konami is far from a Sony only shop. In fact Konami has twice as many titles on 360 as on PS3. I think a fair argument is that this is a problem with Japanese video game companies not understanding the online market. I guess Sony shares that problem, but they are not the cause of it in this case.
I can say that MGS4 is most fun I have had with a shooter since Enemy Territory. - RussellDovey, on 04/21/2008, -0/+3GOOD. This is one game I don't want them to ***** up. Valve has taught us that if you take the time to make a good game, it can definitely be worth waiting for.
- WhereAmI, on 04/21/2008, -0/+3Just stfu mentos75
- knowitman, on 04/21/2008, -1/+4Why don't you actually read up on the game, watch the trailers, and see for yourself rather then just ASSUME it is like MGS1.
- Holyfield, on 04/21/2008, -3/+6Wow this was probably the most pathetic beta launch ever.
The Konami website was completly overloaded for a week, patch download took ages (using bitttorrent was a pretty good idead though) and now the authetication server imploded 5 seconds after mgo went live.
I mean come on, what did they expect, this is the MOST anticipated ps3 exclusive.
Didnt they see this coming, especially after the website problems?
Dont get me wrong, im a huge MGS fan, but this was just horrible, especially for such a AAA game. - bigbadgoat, on 04/21/2008, -0/+2Yep, I've had it for a little over a year now.
To be honest, it's pretty lame. then again, there's only like 32 people in a room at any one time, and the things you can do are pretty limited. - P5ycHo, on 04/21/2008, -0/+2Allright, I'll digg you back up. (Not everyone knows what ! means)
- mywhitenoise, on 04/21/2008, -1/+3You got a Home Beta?
- bigbadgoat, on 04/22/2008, -0/+2@Holy Chimp: Imagine if Nintendo were to keep adding numbers to the end of their IPs.
- MetalCharms, on 04/21/2008, -0/+2nope. his mouth
- Number23, on 04/21/2008, -2/+4Took forever to get a Konami ID (why can I just my PSN ID?) and when I tried to login in I get the “Unable to connect to server”.
All I’m sayin’ is the Halo 3 Beta worked perfectly for me… - bootstrap, on 04/21/2008, -0/+2ok hope they won't have to push back the games release date..
- InfinitySnatch, on 04/21/2008, -0/+212? You're just pulling that number out of your ass.
- kalsey, on 04/21/2008, -0/+2I've got the same issue. Another UK bloke.
Konami really dropped the ball on this one. Well played. - InfinitySnatch, on 04/21/2008, -0/+2This is probably the most ignorant video game related statement I've ever read.
- insidher, on 04/21/2008, -0/+2This is a BETA. Complaining about problems in a beta is like complaining about rain during a vacation to Seattle. If this were post launch, then its a legit gripe.
- Mendeleev135, on 04/21/2008, -2/+4Good ol' Konami.
My experiences havent been too good with this Beta at the moment, First the download of the client took FOREVER (an all nighter), then the amazing 1.01 patch was downloaded, which took as long as the game to download, now the beta has been pushed back :( Bad times
Btw: I'm not sure if it's just the US Beta thats been delayed or whether its the entire thing, because I'm living in the UK, and when I try to log in I get an error message "Unable to connect to server.(0901:FFFFFFE0)"
Ah well, I'm sure the wait will be worth it in the end. - Elky25, on 04/21/2008, -0/+2Watch the offical trailer on the ps3 site... that changed my mind about it.
- mercury187, on 04/21/2008, -1/+3lol so true, ever since I got my ps3 ive been waiting for everything, home, in game xmb, games worth playing (ok well GT5P came out, I guess that counts since its like paying for a huge demo lol), decent voice chat system and oh look this is delayed too..
the slogan for the ps3 should be "live in your world, wait in ours" - piper999, on 04/22/2008, -0/+1Leave Britney Alone!
- watcht, on 04/22/2008, -0/+1TIME PARADOX
- Lanketer, on 04/22/2008, -0/+1mirror for their servers?
