- andres9888, on 03/03/2008, -1/+9So two discs is not an option I guess. This also worries me about him talking about the quality and blaming it on the disc space, I hope he means more in terms of audio.
- isewise, on 03/03/2008, -1/+9The word "quality" is used very vaguely here. I wondered exactly what he means by "quality". I know for a fact that the audio is going to be crazy in MGS4, which might be hogging up all the space. In the Kojima Productions Report Podcast I remember them talking about how much audio equipment they carried around somewhere in the Middle East. Here is an article about the audio concerning PS3 and MGS4: http://www.gamespot.com/features/6147812/index.htm ...
- theaceoffire, on 03/03/2008, -0/+5What? Maybe not 25 GB on the screen at once, but I doubt that is what they are planning on.
- inactive, on 03/03/2008, -4/+9lol wtf? 50GB not enough?
- shinythingy, on 03/03/2008, -1/+5Do you even read what you type?
- jtbndy, on 03/03/2008, -1/+4Nobody said you had to fit the game on one disc.
If there isn't enough space on one, use two. Problem solved. Don't blame quality issues on lack of disc space... - WinterWolf33, on 03/04/2008, -0/+3Just because they are cutting the extra languages out doesn't mean there will be any reduction in the "quality" of MGS4. Buried for misleading title and inaccuracy.
- Razer210, on 03/03/2008, -0/+2Then again, the game might not allow switching discs mid-play...
- Zamfir, on 03/04/2008, -1/+2Actually it's quite the opposite, using the full capacity of the media you're developing for results in almost no waste. I'd rather enjoy a game that contains 50GB of media versus 10GB. Obviously they are compressing the data so everything will fit, hence the 'loss in quality' referred to in the article by Kojima/Konami.
- etruscan, on 03/04/2008, -0/+1What we're likely talking about here is the compression on cut scenes - but this article is misleading, because in the interview I read prior to this one, they mentioned having to cut some stuff out, not lowering the quality of what was already there. Whatever.
The point is the game is going to be gorgeous, but Blu-ray didn't offer enough space for this particular developer. The implication is that more and more developers will start using upwards of 10gb, 20gb, or 50gb, and if that's true - that's great news for PS3 gamers, but not good news for 360 owners. - WhereAmI, on 03/03/2008, -4/+5That still beats the xbox which can't handle anything over 9GB.
- theaceoffire, on 03/03/2008, -4/+4A firmware update should allow quad and oct layer discs... that would push the limit to 100 GB and 200 GB.
It might be a while until they do this though. - lintroller, on 12/14/2008, -0/+0I think they announced a new 100GB bd for PS3. Once this is finished Kojima better stop talking about a possible port to the 360 and take better advantage of the PS3 hardware.
- Doomsan, on 03/04/2008, -1/+1mid-play? WTF when a PS game asked you to insert other disk during gameplay?
- linuxrocks2007, on 03/03/2008, -3/+1Looks like we won't see a PC port then.
- Darkswarm, on 03/03/2008, -3/+1It's assumed it's actually going to be on a single-layer 25 GB disc. Don't rush to conclusions.
- Nobi-Wan, on 03/03/2008, -5/+250GB for a single game on a present generation console is ridiculously huge. I'm thinking it's probably the multiple translations of the game's audio that Sony wants to keep in order to 1) Keep the justification for BR discs on the PS3 and 2) Reduce their own costs for a multi-region release and mass produce just one version instead of separate ones for different countries. The only difference between packaging would be the cheaper printed materials for the cover and manual.
- doshindude, on 03/03/2008, -6/+1wow...50GB for one game is ridiculous. Its such a waste...theres no way that you can't compress that..
- Christbait, on 03/03/2008, -12/+4Just sounds like PR. They must be on drugs if they think 50GB isn't enough, just think of all that space, PS3 probably couldn't handle a game bigger than 25GB anyway.
