- charlescheese, on 01/10/2008, -4/+31That's too bad for you! Thanks for sharing.
- dansmeek, on 01/10/2008, -4/+24you know you want it. you can play hard to get with the ps3 all you want... but it's a machine, so it's not going to suddenly say "wait wait... come back to me. i miss you. you can have me for only $299, how about that." if you don't get it, you will look back at your life forever and think to yourself "if only i had picked up a ps3 and bought metal gear solid 4.... then my life would forever have changed in such a positive manner."
and then you will say, "am i huge nerd for thinking about a videogame machine from 2008" - hardcore718, on 01/10/2008, -3/+19I cant wait to play online.
- damnyooneek, on 01/10/2008, -2/+16You people need to get out more.
- inactive, on 01/10/2008, -5/+18I'll be buying a ps3 just for this game. I know it's silly but if i save a hundred dollars a month til the game is released then I'l have enough to ge it with out feeling any financial effect.
- MrTito, on 01/10/2008, -1/+10You should see a doctor if experiencing Solid Snakes lasting for more than four hours.
- dasdef, on 01/10/2008, -1/+10anything metal gear, im obligated to digg.
- GeekyGerge, on 01/10/2008, -0/+7!
- goldenhearted, on 01/10/2008, -2/+7This package just keeps on getting better and better.
- DarkDx, on 01/10/2008, -0/+4It doesn't say that anymore lol
- Darksoul, on 01/10/2008, -3/+7Sorry but sold I can't wait for mgs 4 and I don't even own a ps3 yet.
- strictnein, on 01/10/2008, -1/+5Re-*****-lax
- bigbadgoat, on 01/10/2008, -2/+5good luck trying to emulate a 9-core cell processor with any other publicly available processor.
- Aiwanei, on 01/10/2008, -2/+5Only problem is right now the PS3 library of titles is very limited. If you bought a 360 after the price drop (which many people did) there was a large library of good games and then a ton of good games coming out for the holidays. The PS3 currently has 5-6 good titles and only 1-2(this can vary on what kind of game you are attracted to) must have titles.
- Majician, on 01/10/2008, -3/+6"Being demoed to a lucky few..." I've gone to CES almost EVERY DAY. I can walk into the Sony Booth, pick up a controller, and start sneaking. Granted it's only being shown on one LCD (One of the new 75" Bravia's with 120Hz. or "Anti-Judder") I'm a wee bit concerned about the anti judder thingy. As you sneak against walls and backgrounds it looks as if Snake has an "Aura" of pixelation around him. Sometimes VERY OBVIOUS, others subtle. I guess the excuse could be made that this probably isn't going to be the final version.
- charlescheese, on 01/10/2008, -0/+3I don't think you understand the promotion algorithm on Digg.
- Mullinsmcd, on 01/10/2008, -0/+3I doubt many people would want to just buy the Online game anyways. Having DLC also lessens the pressure on the company at launch because they can keep receiving income directly after the launch of the game. Plus this makes it more likely that the basic version will be the standard price ($60) with some higher priced collectors editions available. Good moves on both ends.
- KenDigg, on 01/10/2008, -0/+3Alright, I admit it, after buying MGS2 for the PS2 I wasn't a huge fan of the game. Why you ask? Because I sucked at it. It was me. Not the game, not the programmers, definitely not the system it was released on. I suck at Metal Gear Solid and I hate, hate, hate having to try repeatedly and dying like a n00b at the same spot and having to start over. I had to do that a lot. A whole lot.
This announcement, however, might just be enough for me to give it another try. Who knows? Maybe I've improved? If not, I will still have gotten a great package, and my 10 year old will be more than happy to school his dad and pass the levels for me. - illdavey, on 01/10/2008, -1/+4That's awesome, I would totally have bought both of those seperately.
- TrancePhreak, on 01/10/2008, -0/+3The PS3 uses a Cell with one main processing unit and 7 SPE's. ie it is not a 9core processor. It's more like a one core with 7 helpers.
- strictnein, on 01/10/2008, -0/+2Unfortunately it's now. Not a year ago.
- kingmanic, on 01/10/2008, -0/+2There exists an easy setting :D
- kingmanic, on 01/10/2008, -0/+2The word you are looking for is hyperbole. Sarcasm would be "I'll go right out and mortgage my house to buy that $400 machine".
- betrayed, on 01/10/2008, -0/+2Here's the thing: We're on Digg.
Not everyone catches everything the first, second or third time around. - Nobi-Wan, on 01/10/2008, -0/+2Yeah, the DLC or disc based online game is going to be seperate. I believe they're only giving you like 3 maps with the game. At least Subsistence gave you the extra disc with the game.
- Nobi-Wan, on 01/10/2008, -0/+2Yeah it was, but they shut down the servers for it in barely under a year.
- ericrous, on 01/10/2008, -0/+2But think of all the crotch-grabbing you're going to miss out on!
- EvilFerret, on 01/10/2008, -1/+3This DLC trend for consoles seems to be the next big thing. Developers throw some new skins/maps and sometimes a simple mod adding a couple new weapons, and people actually pay money for them. Looks like it's going to get worse before it gets better. Luckily there's still a few developers out there that care more about their customers rather than just money, such as Epic.
- strictnein, on 01/10/2008, -0/+2It's pretty simple:
if (article.chanceOfFanboyFeud() > 0.90)
{
article.promote();
}
More feuding = more ad impressions. - Nobi-Wan, on 01/10/2008, -0/+1They didn't last 2 and a half years. If that were true they'd still be up. The servers lasted MAYBE 12 months.
- Nobi-Wan, on 01/10/2008, -0/+1What if you need the game to actually play the online version? What if they do something like Portable Ops where your single player campaign affects the online portion?
- threepio, on 01/10/2008, -6/+7The sarcasm would be functional if the system were out of reach for folks. $400 is less than most people spend on Booze for a summer party.
- bigbadgoat, on 01/10/2008, -0/+18 SPE's actually, but one is disabled, or locked out. Each SPE works independently of the PPE, so for all intents and purposes, its has 9 cores, or one main core with 7 enabled helpers. Still unlike anything else on the market and highly advanced.
- Grimshaw9, on 01/10/2008, -3/+4Mines still liquid :(
- dysonlu, on 01/10/2008, -0/+1As far as I can tell, this is the Playstation section. Go to the Xbox section and you'll see the same situation. You don't need to be a genius to figure this out.
- Nobi-Wan, on 01/10/2008, -0/+1You're still going to have to. The full online version will be released seperately... they're only giving out a few maps.
- djSyndrome, on 01/10/2008, -0/+1No, more like 18 months in North America.
- Shaflugi, on 01/10/2008, -3/+4I can't for it, either.
- bigbadgoat, on 01/10/2008, -1/+2I forgot the part where Konami said that they were charging for the DLC and how expensive it was going to be. How about you point that out?
I dont have a problem paying for DLC because when I bought the game, I bought it feeling that the price I paid was worthy of the content on that disc. DLC is bonus. It goes above and beyond what the consumer paid for when they purchased the game, and because of that, they want to re-cooperate some of the costs accociated with developing the DLC. Otherwise, they're giving away their time, money and efforts they put into it, and getting nothing in return, since they only people who can use the content already paid the cost of admission.
Either way, DLC == more MGS content for me to play.,watch and enjoy. I can't wait. - AngryBlack, on 01/10/2008, -0/+1Is the "Aura" you're referring to the Octocamo(however it's spelled) that Snake wears that samples the environment you're currently in and matches it when you stop moving? Or is it something else?
- charlescheese, on 01/10/2008, -1/+2No, you don't. As they're saying here, they give you a section of the game free, and then you can add DLC if you like it and want more.
- MRintheKeys, on 01/10/2008, -1/+2I'm hoping for the best here....but DLC always worries me. If it's just a demo for MGS:O and you have to purchase the rest over DLC that wouldn't be right.
- shinythingy, on 01/10/2008, -0/+1I'm going to guess that we will be able to create our own servers a la warhawk
- shinythingy, on 01/10/2008, -0/+1Unfortunately Epic deal with MS a lot which as history proved, means they had to charge for it.
- strictnein, on 01/10/2008, -1/+2No, if it actually were out of reach for people, then it wouldn't be sarcasm, because then he would in fact need to mortgage the house to pay for it.
- Aiwanei, on 01/10/2008, -1/+2I have to say MGS4 is probably the first ps3 game that I have been really interested in enough to consider buying the system. Trade in one my old ps2's for it, and some games like assassin's creed and mass effect and that price drops down signicantly.
- Majician, on 02/09/2008, -0/+1NEGATIVE... The Octocamo Circle is PERFECT! It's the new anti-judder technology that really messes with the picture. I'm pretty sure you can turn it off, but why? I don't know if TV's with 120 hz refresh rates are better than the old ones with 60hz...
- DefaultGen, on 01/10/2008, -0/+1So it doesn't confirm that a full featured Metal Gear Online won't be available separately? At least it's still good news that it's shipping with the main game and will have DLC because MGS3s online servers lasted maybe... 18 months?
- Aiwanei, on 01/10/2008, -1/+2Why? people bought MGS 1-3 without any online play, whats wrong with having MGS 4 with a demo of MGS:O? They could just do it 100% seperate and you would have to pay to play MGS:O. Originally it was thought that MGS:O was going to be a standalone title, so having a demo or what seems more likely to me a core engine and some core gameplay without many maps or characters given to you for free is more then you could have hoped for before.
- skyfyre, on 01/10/2008, -0/+1Point taken.
