MAG: Massive Action Game for PS3 - Socom of the Future
kotaku.com — Sony saved the final announcement of its E3 keynote for a concept using the placehold title of "MAG: Massive Action Game," Unveiled by Andy Beaudoin from Zipper Interactive, MAG — whose trailer looked like "SOCOM set 15 years into the future," according to our eyes on the scene, will immerse players in large online battles of up to 256 players.

- MasterJoefus, on 07/15/2008, -10/+38This is what all of us have been waiting for. The Messiah of Massively Multiplayer Online games!!
- johnmalc, on 07/15/2008, -2/+10Epic retort! This ***** looks friggin' sweet.
Now lets wait for the whining... - billjimbob, on 07/16/2008, -2/+12Killzone 2's trailer was shown in 2005, but isn't going to come out until 2009. Let's hope MAG doesn't suffer the same fate, or we won't be seeing it until 2012.
It does look sweet, though.- ZeroFactorial, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1I think that is why Sony had the other team work on SOCOM, to see if Zipper could start doing new stuff.
Smart move if you ask me after seeing this.

- gmiley, on 07/16/2008, -2/+3I'm sort of getting tired of the bulk of "on-line" type console games being shooters. I'd like to see something a little more innovative. Maybe a decent action/rpg with a co-op and/or versus (arena) modes. Not a MMO, but something you could create a character and team up with 1-3 other people and play through a story mode.
Maybe something along the lines of a Secret of Mana-esque game. Something with a solid single-player campaign, but also with the ability to have a few friends along in the same story/campaign. Or even Mass Effect with on-line co-op. That would be badass.- Rakuseki, on 07/16/2008, -2/+1I'm not a fanboy or anything (I like all three systems equally), but I believe Fable 2 is where you should be looking.
- ZenMojo, on 07/16/2008, -1/+3Maybe involving demonology. And Barbarians. And Witchdoctors. From a company named after a snow storm. Yeah, that would be interesting.
- Dracusis, on 07/16/2008, -4/+3Screw the FPSs, where are the massive 256 player mech games? !!
Infantry combat is for noobs. Give me custom Mechs with missile salvos, lasers and heat sings any day. Airdrops? Lame, Mechs can do orbital drops, yeah bitches!- jgtg32a, on 07/16/2008, -0/+3Aren't those generally in first person?
- ZeroFactorial, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1A Front Mission MMO would be pretty dope. You have endless customization to always keep you playing and tweaking your mechs.
- sturmgiest, on 07/16/2008, -2/+2Dracusis, its called planetside. Its been around for five years.
- Darksoul, on 07/16/2008, -2/+1Planetside sucked ass back when it came out and I beta'ed it which is why to this day no one ever talks about the game.
- johnmalc, on 07/15/2008, -2/+10Epic retort! This ***** looks friggin' sweet.
- pewpewarrows, on 07/15/2008, -10/+69I'll be more excited when I see in-game footage instead of the pre-rendered stuff they spewed out today. All-in-all though, sounds like a great idea. Let's see if they can pull it off.
- B1663r, on 07/15/2008, -18/+2I'll be more excited when I see an actual title... With this working title it will ship in a white box with black block letters...
- FutureGuy, on 07/16/2008, -5/+2have patience, they will announce its release date soon, then they will move it only 10 times before releasing a beta version.
- remotehuman, on 07/16/2008, -7/+1are there 256 people on the PS3 network?
- Gareth915, on 07/15/2008, -10/+8I'm going to need to upgrade my broadband... I hope this doesn't lag like hell!
- AlxRymnd914, on 07/16/2008, -3/+12Sony uses dedicated servers. So it only depends on your connection to the server instead of everyone's connection to another person's console ala Halo3.
- BearinG, on 07/16/2008, -0/+3Sony doesn't always use dedicated servers... it can use dedicated servers... and in this case, they will need to..

- Wildthing, on 07/16/2008, -1/+23Let's hope it doesn't take after "Epic Movie", "Date Movie", or "Superhero Movie". I can see it now, their next is going to be "Massive Action Movie"

- Wildthing, on 07/16/2008, -2/+19Actually my use of "their" is correct. http://www.wsu.edu/~brians/errors/their.html
- Gman1223, on 07/16/2008, -5/+9Yes. Sorry, I misread the comment. I should have looked a little closer the first time. I thought he said:
their now is going to be "Massive Action Movie"
Sorry again. :) - awtripp, on 07/16/2008, -3/+1Oh oh I want in on grammar...
There is going to be a Massive Action Game.
They're making a Massive Action Game.
Their idea for the title is retarded.
SWISH! Gold star. Add it to the rest.
- gmiley, on 07/16/2008, -0/+6I dunno... "Paperboy" was a pretty badass game title, a badass title for a badass game. =)
- volacide, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1Tactical Espionage Action....?
- phinn, on 07/16/2008, -0/+6I know, I don't get why people bash the name, even if its just a placeholder.

- jstone, on 07/16/2008, -0/+7Except "Longhorn" actually sounded cooler than "Vista"
- PopASquatt, on 07/16/2008, -0/+2Let's hope it changes, this sorta reminds me of those vaguely title movies that suck balls; Epic Movie, Date Movie, the new Disaster Movie. Ughhhh. Gives me goosebumps just thinking about them.

- AlxRymnd914, on 07/16/2008, -1/+5that news has no heart.
- billjimbob, on 07/15/2008, -6/+24MAG definitely looks cool, but anyone think it will release before 2010? 2011?

- TitanX7, on 07/15/2008, -4/+18And people mocked me for playing SOCOM.
- santasing, on 07/15/2008, -2/+19Its all in the implementation. I personnaly don't want it to be run and gun. but if it is tactical at all like SOCOM or AA, this is going to be one hell of a game.
- TheAmbushAhead, on 07/15/2008, -0/+14Well Zipper is making it and they made SOCOM...
- kinseyincanada, on 07/16/2008, -1/+7personally im more of a fan of the run and gun, i never got inot the SOCOM series because of the tactics like nature, but to each his own, still looks like a great idea thou, and DC Universe looks awesome.
- BearinG, on 07/16/2008, -0/+2Agree, I'm not sure tactical is really possible with 100 other players on your team.. I just see this as a war.. reinforcements.. advance.. take over bases..
- gmiley, on 07/16/2008, -0/+4I've never really cared for run and gun (RAG) games on consoles, they are more suited for the PC environment IMO. The tactical ones though, yes, even though I prefer a mouse and keyboard for most all FPS games, I can still enjoy them on a console.
There have been a very small few RAGs that I have enjoyed on a console system, but they are the very rare exception.
- billjimbob, on 07/15/2008, -12/+6MAG definitely looks cool, but anyone think it will release before 2010? Remember when they announced Killzone in 2005, then it got delayed, delayed, and delayed again to 2009? Does that mean a 2012 release date for MAG?
- LordoftheFly, on 07/15/2008, -7/+70Great. Because the only thing greater than 15 other players talking ***** is 255.
- bigbadgoat, on 07/15/2008, -37/+42I'm sorry, this is a PS3 title, not xbox.
- SSCrow, on 07/16/2008, -8/+30People talk ***** everywhere. Not just on the xbox.
- jstone, on 07/16/2008, -13/+6@SSCrow: *whoosh*
- BearinG, on 07/16/2008, -1/+4Yeah caus no one ever talks ***** on the PS3...
Or did you mean barely anyone uses the mic so there won't much talking at all.. - Grikkith, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1@jstone: *EPIC WHOOSH*
- CollapseControl, on 07/15/2008, -47/+8Do you really think 255 PS3 owners actually have a headset? lmao. I bet they don't.
This game will be a flop or will be delayed like HOME, over and over again. - dunezone, on 07/15/2008, -2/+29They would be smart to only allow the 8 man squad to talk to each other but the commander of that squad can hear the other commanders also. That way the communication is split down and only certain people can hear certain people. But even this would be a cluster *****.
- superkendall, on 07/16/2008, -1/+4Not if you allow the commander to kick people. Only certain people get to be commanders so it makes sense to give them the power. Then the first few minutes might suck but eventually the complete morons would be ejected or slapped down and the game could go on.
That's what I'm hoping happens. - Ubergoober3, on 07/16/2008, -1/+3Ever play battlefield 2?
- jgtg32a, on 07/16/2008, -1/+1IDK that implies that we are relying on user intelligence
- BearinG, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1If only you could switch between Squad chat and then Commanders chat.. or even just a close proximity chat..
- superkendall, on 07/16/2008, -1/+4Not if you allow the commander to kick people. Only certain people get to be commanders so it makes sense to give them the power. Then the first few minutes might suck but eventually the complete morons would be ejected or slapped down and the game could go on.
- bigbadgoat, on 07/15/2008, -10/+31CollapseControl, are you incapable of reading?
The story VERY CLEARLY has PS3 in the title.
What the ***** are you doing posting here. If your xbox 360 is really that ***** great, go play that every time you feel the impulse to spew your ***** and lies to people who don't give a fat flying ***** about what you have to say.
Ask yourself, how many of your comments actually have a positive digg count?
I bet it's less than 5%.- Ubergoober3, on 07/16/2008, -3/+3owned.
- cthellis, on 07/16/2008, -0/+2I bet he posts sanely in, like, Food & Drink threads just to kick up his ratio, since he'd be unlikely to run across anyone he posts all crazy to in here. ;-)
- LordoftheFly, on 07/16/2008, -13/+4Glad to see someone who values themselves by their digg count, troll.
- LordoftheFly, on 07/16/2008, -10/+4Anyway, taking half a second to look at your other comments shows that you're just a shill for Sony- just as likely to be talking ***** on PSN as you are to be trolling through Digg.
Better get on your multis and start burying. - bigbadgoat, on 07/16/2008, -4/+2Don't have to.
Diggers will common sense will do that for me.
- LordoftheFly, on 07/16/2008, -10/+4Anyway, taking half a second to look at your other comments shows that you're just a shill for Sony- just as likely to be talking ***** on PSN as you are to be trolling through Digg.
- Evi1d33d, on 07/16/2008, -3/+2Too bad the install base for mics on the PS3 is kinda low and even if they have them it'll be all breathing and static.
- BearinG, on 07/16/2008, -0/+2It worked fine when there's people using them.. but I do agree about the number of players using them.. it depends on the game etc.. but definitely not has populated as it could be.. Its a shame too because i got a Blue tooth headset and don't even have a cell phone
- bigbadgoat, on 07/15/2008, -37/+42I'm sorry, this is a PS3 title, not xbox.
- mattyice11, on 07/15/2008, -8/+7Cool concept if they can pull it off - it's a huge project and Huxley is having problems trying to achieve the same thing. The 2 questions are release date and is there a subscription fee.
- superkendall, on 07/16/2008, -1/+5I don't think there would be a subscription fee, it would be incentive to use PSN more.
- BearinG, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1I hope not.. but i assume a FPS MMO would require more bandwidth as there's not really room for lag like RPGs with "turn-based/recharged" skills..
- superkendall, on 07/16/2008, -1/+5I don't think there would be a subscription fee, it would be incentive to use PSN more.
- ConfusedCartman, on 07/15/2008, -15/+4Sony, you make me sad.
And now for something...completely different:
OMG LITTLEBIGPLANET OMG - adiyo011, on 07/15/2008, -6/+1I was really hoping for it to come out on PC. Ah well...
I'll be waiting for OpFlash 2: Dragon Rising. Apparently, their devs are working on 72 player battles. - lordwow, on 07/16/2008, -3/+8Didn't they already try this with Planetside?
- wedges, on 07/16/2008, -0/+3they did, only when Planetside came out MMO wasn't all that popular, with Everquest taking up most peoples time. there's a lot more players, and I'll bet a lot of players that aren't interested in WoW would like a different kind of MMO. myself included.
- jgtg32a, on 07/16/2008, -2/+1shush let them have their moment of glory.
Besides it sucked - sturmgiest, on 07/16/2008, -0/+4Planetside was good. Minus whiney players complaining about balance and incompetent devs.
- widgetmaker, on 07/16/2008, -0/+3True about ANY and EVERY mmo ever made though.
- MechaFalcon, on 07/16/2008, -0/+2Planetside was a very good concept with decent implementation. Sadly I couldn't afford to keep playing it when I first got it like I thought I would be able to, but it was a very enjoyable experience while it lasted.
- Murphious, on 07/16/2008, -0/+2When planetside was good, it was excellent and featured some of the best moments from FPS games I've played.
When planetside was bad... It was boring beyond belief. - Bloodburn, on 07/16/2008, -1/+2They did and they succeeded.
Remember, Planetside is STILL going on. it is still live. Its not dead yet.
- keenkumar, on 07/16/2008, -10/+2microsoft press conference e3 2009 : MAG is now coming to the xbox360
LOL that would be so funny- bigbadgoat, on 07/16/2008, -2/+6Nothing like a Sony IP coming out on a competitor's console.
- DarkShroud, on 07/16/2008, -0/+2That would be like Fable coming to the PS3. At least take 2 minutes to check the studios ownership before spewing fanboy BS.
- Farmer77, on 07/16/2008, -4/+6This is not going to come out until at least 2010. And I'm not exactly going out on a limb to say this.
- B1663r, on 07/16/2008, -3/+1I think you are being optimistic...
- roxya, on 07/16/2008, -1/+2They've been working on it for 3 years. I'd say 2009.
- peticsu, on 07/16/2008, -9/+20more like LLLLLLLLLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGG
- johnmalc, on 07/16/2008, -9/+37Here's the difference: XBL is set-up like a P2P network, where Microsoft is charging you to use your own bandwidth. PSN is all run on banks of dedicated servers, and is pretty much lagless (it's why we all play CoD4 on PS3, rather than my roomate's 360).
It's also why PSN costs so much mor... oooh, too soon?- B1663r, on 07/16/2008, -5/+8Actually, I don't think you know what you are talking about with regards to the 360. Some games have servers and some games don't. Also I never experience lag on COD, so the trouble must be on your end.
- TheAmbushAhead, on 07/16/2008, -0/+5Only some servers are dedicated and some P2P. For example, Warhawk has dedicated servers, and you can host your own on your bandwidth. I think MAG will be all dedicated or will determine the player cap for a host based on their bandwidth.
- Acglaphotis, on 07/16/2008, -0/+11No server is lagless. Digg is living proof.
- BlackKnight6, on 07/16/2008, -6/+5Very few games on PSN have dedicated servers. And you also don't seem to know the difference between server/client and peer-to-peer. Almost all 360 games are server/client NON-DEDICATED while a few games like Crackdown and Army of Two are peer-to-peer. This goes for many PS3 games as well, like COD4.
A non-dedicated server/client server has a system as a host/server as well as a player in the game (I.E. one of us) while the rest connect to them, the clients. A dedicated server/client server has a system that is NOT a player but just a server. Meaning the game must rely on voting to do things like changing the map, kicking, game type and so on; or a player can be given administration rights over the dedicated server. I don't think PS3 players are ever given those rights for the dedicated servers hosted for games like R:FoM.
If a non-dedicated server (a player acting as host on a game like COD4) has a decent connection (3Mbits down, 768Kbits up) you can run an 18 player server so long as all players live within the USA and the host is not downloading porn at the same time.
Learn your facts and stop digging this idiot. - cthellis, on 07/16/2008, -0/+2He's unspecific in his terminology, but what he means is company-run dedicated hosting, which the PS3 has quite a lot of in comparison to the 360. (And would have even more of if EA didn't exert their influence on Microsoft to get them to change their policies.) So the server isn't limited to the power of one system (minus what it takes you to play). So your pipe isn't everyone's pipe, and your lag isn't everyone's lag. So your sister's BitTorrent sessions doesn't destroy everyone's fun. So one person can't dump everyone's game just because they're losing and get annoyed.
The companies themselves have much larger pipes, can have much more powerful machines, can have better dedication and prioritization by their ISP's, are usually closer to central routing hubs, meaning fewer hops for all players involved.
The downside is, of course, that the company can take those servers down after the game gets old and unused, which means you won't be able to play it at ALL, even with friends... But that hasn't shown itself yet, and this generation they also have the option of patching in new code to allow for the same kind of local hosting (dedicated or non) that is more common on the 360, so... we'll have to see what comes along. I'd like to think that the better companies will do just that, because it will let them reduce their support costs with minor extra effort, and will still give their player base what they want. - BearinG, on 07/16/2008, -1/+2What does 360 have to do with the original post? Did he say it would run better on the 360 or something? maybe he edited his post before I read it?
Or were you just waiting for an opportunity to say that Microsoft charges for XBL ? REALLY? No one knew..
Not all PS3 game servers are dedicated.. for this game, they will need to be.. I still want to see how well it runs with 2XX players playing a shooter..
Great post.. - NinjaDolemite, on 07/16/2008, -1/+0you don't know how this works do you? No matter if you have dedicated servers or not, you will have lag. There's lag between you and the server. If one person has a bad internet connection, they will lag. It won't matter how good the server is.
If you're experiencing less lag on PSN, it can only be because PSN isn't as popular. less users means less stress on the server. MS has more dedicated servers. I'm not sure where the myth of PSN superiority comes from. They're clearly playing catch up. - cthellis, on 07/16/2008, -0/+2@BearinG - He's commenting on the lag accusation by commenting on network structure. As later noted, however, he's not being very technical about it.
@NinjaDolemite - How do you figure? All the things I mentioned in my above post apply, and affect overall game lag. In one situation, the host's local lag becomes lag for everyone, instead of lag for just one player. The server being closer to an ISP's large network hub means fewer hopes for everyone, instead of more hops for everyone but the host. Whose routers are likely to be more robust, those dedicated and maintained by a large company, or a Linksys purchased at Wal-Mart and not maintained at all--probably with open Wi-Fi so the whole neighborhood can leech? Whose bandwidth is likely to be larger and given preference, and not be potentially affected by clogging of the local loop, ISP caps, etc., that can cause strain the more people join in?
Why on earth do you think people go to places like ( http://www.gameservers.com/ ) and pay way more than the cost of Live for a dedicated server for ONE game? Why do they pay for dedicated hosting for Teamspeak or Ventrilo?
If one person has a bad interconnection, they ALONE will lag. They'll usually lag a bit less to a full strength, company-run dedicated host, though. And there is NO chance that that one player could be the host, and lag everyone to death.
"PSN not being as popular" has no bearing on the matter. Even if only 1000 people are playing a game instead of 5000, a full 16-player server is a full 16-player server. The overall lag depends on entirely different matters, not how many people are playing the game on other servers. It may affect matchups friend-inviting and server listing, but it won't affect your game once it's in motion.
- JasonCox, on 07/16/2008, -6/+9It's a good concept; but unless Sony is planning on running fiber to every user's home and implementing an Xbox Live type network and then some before this game launches... It's just a dream in some PR guy's eye.
- B1663r, on 07/16/2008, -1/+4Um, I don't know. This game is a couple of years off yet, and back when Sony announced games they released this year, back in 2005, I was at 1.5 Mb Internet access. This year, I am at eight, and have the option to upgrade to 12 if I want to. I suspect by the time this game ships, I will have the option for 20-30 Mb Internet access, and that should be enough to do 256 players updating 15-20x a second. My quick off the cuff calculation puts it at ~400Kbs is all that is needed on the client(the server is going to be a different story though), and the extra overhead ensures good consistent low latency. You could almost do this on existing cable Internet connections, but not everybody has the 10Mb+ networks you need to do this with low latency.
- superkendall, on 07/16/2008, -1/+2On the other hand, four years ago my internet service was 4x faster - and I'm on Comcast cable modem now. I don't know if I'd expect a jump in that time frame for sure.
- jgtg32a, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1superkendall
Graduate from college?
- JayD16, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1Why is it so impossible to believe? It you'll just have to reduce the network "draw distance." Think about WoW. Its not like you get thousands of pieces of information for everyone playing on that server.
- BearinG, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1You also don't snipe players 2 miles away.. you don't even aim..

BORING!!!!!!!!! sorry.. but it isn't possible to make a new idea for a game I guess...
Here is the conversation among the developers...
"lets see.. you shoot people (in first person) hmm that's unoriginal what can we do... hmmm"
"Ooh ooh I know.. lets make it so you can shoot 256 people!"
"Awesome! it will sell like hotcakes!"
"Oh wait lets put it out on the ps3 so no one buys it."
"Ok great idea."
digg me down... but you are foolish sheep.- TheAmbushAhead, on 07/16/2008, -0/+4This is a Zipper game, so it will be tactical and probably third person.
- jgtg32a, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1I hope it isn't 3rd person. I never liked the concept, you loose immersion.
Hopefully Mirror's Edge will change perspectives
- jgtg32a, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1I hope it isn't 3rd person. I never liked the concept, you loose immersion.
- cthellis, on 07/16/2008, -0/+3Can we instead digg you down for being an annoying dumbass?
- NinjaDolemite, on 07/16/2008, -0/+0you're a tard. They basically didn't announce anything. They showed a concept CG video. It's Vapor ware.
- cthellis, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1Well hello there.
- NinjaDolemite, on 07/16/2008, -0/+0RIght on. This game isn't coming out anytime soon. This is like KZ2. First they show a "Target" game play trailer. In a few years we'll see an "actual" game play trailer. Sony will say anything.
- TheAmbushAhead, on 07/16/2008, -0/+4This is a Zipper game, so it will be tactical and probably third person.
- tikited, on 07/16/2008, -4/+26Resistence 2, God of War 3, ratchet and clank: quest for booty, bioshock, Siren, Socom, DC universse MMO, resident evil 5, MAG was totally awesome. Little big planet me made laugh because it had a great visual aid presentation. Sony conference was non stop Excellent show.
- ZenMojo, on 07/16/2008, -11/+6Microsoft was better. But only because they got to say "We have multiplatform titles on our system!" before Sony did.
But Nintendo. Wow, that was a horrible presentation. I'm actually pissed at the Wii Motion Plus because that's what the Wiimote was supposed to be in the first place!
- ZenMojo, on 07/16/2008, -11/+6Microsoft was better. But only because they got to say "We have multiplatform titles on our system!" before Sony did.
- 3amboo, on 07/16/2008, -1/+34there better be respawn... i'm not waiting for all 256 players to die.
- TheAmbushAhead, on 07/16/2008, -0/+7They said paradrop of soldiers and helo insertions as well, so it seems like it will have respawns.
- B1663r, on 07/16/2008, -0/+4If you haven't played these types of games yet, they are usually based on a ticket sytem. When you die, you use up a ticket. When your team is out of tickets, game over.
- arjtin, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1I was wondering how respawns could work and not interfere with the point of holding a base if your enemies keep coming. It could work if the respawn points were placed a great distance away or if the paradrops were triggered by a certain player or squad reaching a certain score.

- WaltJay, on 07/16/2008, -10/+7How many online shooter games is Sony trying to put out? Resistance 2, SOCOM, future Warhawk expansions, Killzone 2 and now MAG? And they say the 360 has too many shooters!
- superkendall, on 07/16/2008, -0/+11Hey now, the PS3 also had Little Big Planet as a huge part of the presentation - and a big Ratchet & Clank title. And even God Of War III, which is not at all a shooter.
- AlxRymnd914, on 07/16/2008, -0/+9"future Warhawk expansions" - would you rather them not support their games?
- BearinG, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1Isn't Warhawk a launch title? As there been expansions already?
- cthellis, on 07/16/2008, -0/+2No, Warhawk was only out last August, but it's gotten good attention ever since. (Just got a new update and two new game modes today, in fact.)
- apena89, on 07/16/2008, -2/+7does everyone (non Playstation gamers) forget about LittleB(insert tree)gPlanet, MGS4, Warhawk, Super Stardust, GT:P, PixelJunks, Motorstorm; All which balance and even out the genres for the PS3, but most of those games are SO underrated! The variety of the games are excellent but most people say the games suck and 99% of the time they havent even played the games or they enter the game very narrow minded and pretty much make their judgment before they get into the action so it makes their final thoughts of the game very biased.
Sorry for side tracking but the PS3 has variety. You're just too stupid to realize.
- sd11208, on 07/16/2008, -6/+1me want sex?
- NinjaDolemite, on 07/16/2008, -11/+3it's pre rendered CG and they clearly haven't started working on it yet. won't be out until 2010. They could've just shown drawings and it would've been just as relevant.
Seriously. I keep hearing about what MIGHT happen on PS3. Meanwhile I've had a solid 2 years of gaming on 360. I'll buy PS3 when they have 5 good exclusives.

Ratchet & Clank
Metal Gear Solid 4
Want to add more? Double-up? Throw in PSN games? 5 is trivial. - Jeldtoft, on 07/16/2008, -0/+2Uncharted? You forgot that!

Driving games are boring. Mirror's edge is not exclusive. MGS4 is ***** erotic (it's a demonstrable fact.)- cthellis, on 07/17/2008, -0/+1You're kind of a funny one to be calling for "facts..."

- santasing, on 07/16/2008, -2/+5Did anyone catch the Far Cry 2 dev talking about user generated content for FC2. I have no idea what it would be but user generated content seems to be Sony's buzzword now.
Before anyone flames me for saying Sony's buzzword, the dev was talking about the benefits of having an assured HDD in the PS3 when he said that.- jgtg32a, on 07/16/2008, -1/+7In the real gaming world those are called Mods
- cthellis, on 07/16/2008, -1/+1Mods good, Napster BAAAAD~!
- TheBEAST205, on 07/16/2008, -2/+2The game seems like a pretty cool concept, but communication and team work could be a big challenge.
- spacebuddy, on 07/16/2008, -0/+15If they pull this off, it will be AMAZING.
All I need is GOD OF WAR III and Spore :) - Redpaw360, on 07/16/2008, -11/+4This is Virtual Vaporware, it'll never meet the hype and never accomplish anywhere near what the Sony Hype Machine Claims. 40 vs. 40 would be LAG CITY. Sony = Fail for thinking we are this stupid.
- petard, on 07/16/2008, -1/+6dedicated servers.
Ever tried Planetside? Lag wasn't an issue.- cthellis, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1"How to fill up servers" and "how to get that 128 people on each side doing something purposeful" could still be issues. I agree that lag will likely not be, since no one packs their game with overbearingly-huge numbers of players if the network itself would collapse.
- petard, on 07/16/2008, -1/+6dedicated servers.
- Icecold54, on 07/16/2008, -0/+5This sounds like a great concept, so hopefully they can pull it off. I remember Joint Operations had like 150 player servers with huge maps and those matches were insanely fun. Shame there aren't more games like it...and even now you'll be lucky if you find a 60 player server in Joint Operations since it's aging.

- iakovos87, on 07/16/2008, -6/+1This would be great if they can make it work. But considering Sony's track record, we probably won't see this until a Playstation 4 comes out. They were showing videos of Kill Switch years ago, but we still haven't seen the game.
- dsmx, on 07/16/2008, -0/+7What happens if all 256 people fire a rocket at the same time at the same location in that game?

*****.
- bittertea, on 07/16/2008, -0/+7I think the game is going to be kickass... just think... they said that each squad is consist of 8 players... so 16 squads per team. From what they've shown in the beginning of the trailer, squad members will be able to communicate within the group. The captain of each squads are given abilities to communicate with each other, relaying any intel between themselves and then to their group. Lag migh tbe something ot think about, but if they didn't think it would work, would they waste all that investments on it?
- fudged71, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1anybody find a video?
- Jhorra, on 07/16/2008, -5/+2Unless this is one giant map where it's all at the same time, they already have this. It's called an MMOG. Tribes beat them to it by a few years here.
- HumanRecalled, on 07/16/2008, -18/+3i like how Jack Tretton made it sound liek only this can be done on the PS3 hahaha it's a ***** server for ***** sakes !
MAG more like LAG !! besides so were talking 1 game woopie doo da !! This ain't enough to make me buy a PS3 !
Also am i so concerned that 235 people will be online at the same time ? NO ! And no doubt this tech will be replicated through PC's and Xbox ! No worries and to be honest don't really care !!
Oh and digg me down Don't give a ***** !
Sony failed this year it's Key note was horrible !! Jack Tretton is a mess !!- santasing, on 07/16/2008, -2/+2okkkk....backs off slowly

- cthellis, on 07/16/2008, -0/+4Him deciding he wants to like one, which isn't likely to happen, as he's obviously having too fun illogically hating it.
- petard, on 07/16/2008, -0/+4This looks cool! I enjoyed planetside and this seems simlar!
- krolm, on 07/16/2008, -11/+5i'm not impressed... i heard a while ago that microsoft has been working on technology that would enable thousands of players to play with each other on an fps map or whatever. unfortunately, i'm too lazy to find the link. i think it'll be pretty amazing to see what leaps online game technology will make in the next 20 years. we'll look back at the old 64 person battlefield servers and laugh. i'm looking forward to the day we'll be able to have a massive war gaming experience, one in which we'll be a single soldier surrounded by thousands of others. 5,000 vs 5,000 anyone?
- apena89, on 07/16/2008, -4/+4uh..no.
