- slimthps, on 10/11/2007, -3/+73Too fake.
- kinseyincanada, on 10/11/2007, -2/+56theres no home button either.
- JayD16, on 10/11/2007, -7/+30Thats not even a sixaxis. You can see the dualshock's analog light.
- isewise, on 10/11/2007, -2/+24A simple google image seach and this is what I found:
http://www.joystiq.com/2006/01/25/joystiq-readers-redesign-the-ps3-controller/
Scroll down a little bit - Burritoking924, on 10/11/2007, -1/+19No. Look how bad of a photoshop job that is. As slimthps said, theres no home button, there's the left over of the D-Pad where the left joystick is, theres the dualshock analog light still there like JayD16 said, and it's missing the four lights in the middle right hand corner.
- AnteChronos, on 10/11/2007, -5/+22No, a mouse and keyboard are perfect for FPS games. Lacking that, the Wii remote has more potential, I think.
- filipecabaco, on 10/11/2007, -1/+14this was a mock up from the "future" PS3 controller... even before the banana controller...
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12Wow, that's a horrible fake. If it was real, why would Sony make something so ugly? Look at the left analog stick, why the hell would they leave the d-pad arrow outline around it? That makes it look extremely ugly.
- timpkmn89, on 10/11/2007, -5/+16The new European PS3 bundle has a sixaxis with a dualshock-esque light on it
- Jeffler, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12...Guess what!
the GC controller is based off of the Dreamcast controller.
...and Guess What!
The Dreamcast controller is based off of the Saturn 3D controller.
To be fair though, the Saturn 3D controller stole the stick from the N64...a tricky conundrum, ain't it? - RoroCo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10Some marketing shill probably took some "stock" image from the internet not realizing it was shopped. Probably an honest, if not inexcusable mistake.
Although, the analog controller in the dominant spot makes more sence, I doubt this will be a standard redesign. - liveify, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9burried as inacturate
- onimusha115, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6It wasn't included at first due to patent lawsuits. Sony tried to claim that they excluded rumble because it was a "last generation" feature, but truth is they couldn't legally include it at the time. But, since then sony has settled the lawsuits and is now able to sell a controller with rumble once again.
- Colt4cm, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7FAKE
- greenblob, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7Now only if they did that to the Wii Classic controller...
- specialK16, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7Whoever wrote that article and whoever submitted it is a complete idiot. I'm sorry.
- louiedog, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6They hadn't settled a lawsuit over rumble in the dualshock controllers. That's why it was left out.
- greenblob, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8I've never understood why Sony kept their left analog stick on the bottom.
- TangentThought, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Look, no one complained when they released the DualShock the PS1 when it had not force-feedback. Why would this time be any different?

- ShaunOlsen, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5I walked before you did, stop copying me!

- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4MS never replaced the original xbox controllers either
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Yahoo games....I no longer find this surprising.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4That is to turn off vibration
- rainergamer, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6Sony doesn't copy *****, the only thing they did was improve upon the original NES formula (Dpad ) and then completely perfect it (4 shoulder pads for increase variation, and *gasp* dual analogs in the DualShock release).
Microsoft, however, completely ripped off the design of the DualShock, switched the Dpad and Analog stick, removed 2 buttons (for the retards) and added the completely useless white/black buttons. Did I mention "X, Y, A, B"? Duh, Microsoft didn't improve on anything, it just completely copied every controller in existence at the time it was made. The 360 did nothing to correct this, because the gaming community of today is so placid and stupefied that they can't even notice obvious theft of idea.
Microsoft doesn't deserve to be in the business. Bring back Sega, I want the main 3 back in their rightful positions. DC was ahead of its time. - apena89, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4did it catch on fire?
- Murphious, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3http://starwars.yahoo.com/
It's there if you scroll down.. If it's a hoax; it's a well done one. - rainergamer, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4*left hand
- johnIRL, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Halo3 running on 360 and PC, err...

Right there if you scroll down. - patm1987, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3dunno about everyone else, but I've liked the dualshock 2 best from the last gen. But I hated the l2 and r2 buttons on the sixaxis (they're like designed so your finger wants to slide off), and I still prefer the sega six over any pre-analogue controller (but that one's prolly the fanboy in me).
And I guess I'll address the thumb placement also, I think I'd prefer both sticks up high for most of the games I play (but I'm mostly an fps gamer, and no controller I've used did that so I can't say for sure), but I have the 360 controller on pc (I don't actually own any game consoles) and the lowered right analogue makes platforming more fun (mainly tomb raider, but it works with many things and is easily interfaced using XInput for your own fun projects), and makes sense for anything that would benefit from more buttons over having two analogue inputs. From my perspective then, I guess I have to like the redesign, assuming I keep fps's a pc thing (I considered keeping a laptop and a ps3 rather than trying to fix my desktop again, which can become costly with what I like to put it through... I should get a pc just for experimenting with things) but whenever I play any console fps/tps, both the face buttons (triangle, x, square, circle, y, a, b, etc..) and the d-pad become secondary to the analogue sticks and 4 triggers and I wish they would move out of the way. - p4cmaN, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3bs. i say that mouse and keyboard has way more precision/speed than you can ever get with a console.
- Owinn, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Has anyone checked Lucasarts website? The supposed source? I did, can't find it there and yes it looks fake.
- greenblob, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Of course Sony wouldn't copy Microsoft--they copy Nintendo.
- acurism, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Wageslaven(Digg's resident MS fanboy) trolling again, huh?
First off, your current controller does not need replacing. They will work fine.
Only if you want rumble, then yes, you will have to pony up a little cash which for you wageslaven would be the equivelant to 1 year of xbox live service($50). Online is free on PS3, by the way.
And that takes me to my second point. You say Sony "squeezes" it's customers, but how is that? Granted, I don't know what it costs Sony to produce the PS3 currently, but less than a year ago it cost them about $850 to make one and they were selling them for $600. They were taking over a $200 loss on each console sold! You call that squeezing? Personally, I call that a hell of a deal which is even more lucrative at $499.
Did I also mention that PS3 online is free? - topbravo, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4over 12000 in mario paint.
- gwolf, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2You need to be dragged kicking and screaming into the future.
- greenblob, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Competitive fighting game people use arcade sticks.
Speaking of which, where can I get a good arcade stick for cheap? - JayD16, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2What? why?
- Lawr, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2your friend is smoking crack. any else's thoughts?
- Mrstupid7, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Man you are smoking crack if you honestly think the dual shock's analogue stick is in a natural position for a thumb. Either that or you have monkey feet for hands.
- rainergamer, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3If this were true (99.99999% doubtful), it would be the dumbest move Sony could make. Microsoft copies Sony, so in turn, Sony copies Microsoft? No, Sony isn't that stupid, sorry.
Buried as lame. - GeneralBison, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Do people honestly think that this is real? It was an old PS3 parody mock up from years ago.
- grumbel, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2According to rumors that picture is from a devkit controller, not from a normal retail one.
- mustard, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2It's a fake. Not a very good one, either.
- DrumInfected, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I hope this isn't real.... cause it's a total ripoff of a xbox controller. Actually that's one of the main reasons why I don't have a ps3 I don't like the way the controller handles
- gwolf, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I really hope they make this, when people with the old controller start getting their ass handed to them by people with the new controller that will settle which is best.
- masterthiefster, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1The "best way"? Tell that to Microsoft! They've had this diagonal arrangement for three controllers now (the "Duke", the Xbox S, and finally the Xbox 360).
- masterthiefster, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1As far as I'm aware that's Sony's official presentation of the trademark. Why they chose capitals is anyone's guess.
And if it was an acronym its meaning would have to be really, really stupid. -
