- dansmeek, on 05/12/2008, -4/+74kotaku sucks. you could tell from the getgo that this was people running with an out of context quote translated from japanese and being used to garner hits to their website/blog.
and i love kojima's analogy of the car and the flying car that can go to mach speed and space. but then it couldn't go into space but it still can fly and go mach speed and that is amazing! can hardly wait to get my flying, mach speed, metal gear solid 4. - kingmanic, on 05/12/2008, -23/+74I think the rampant defensiveness of kotaku to be silly. They hyped an angle on a sentence which played well to it's audience but seemed to be wrong. Originator of sentence advised that wasn't his intent. Not much more to be said. He mentions some stuff about America and bragging, but in general Americans are one of the most belligerent braggarts there are. You did not win WWI the Russians did, you didn't win WWII the Russians did, most of your inventions came from immigrants, most of your smartest researchers are immigrants, etc... America does have that reputation.Kojima isn't even being very confrontational when he mentions it but kotaku is sure playing that angle up.
- Metahero, on 05/12/2008, -1/+37I somewhat agree with this, but it's not just Americans. Culturally speaking, especially in the business world, western cultures emphasise bragging about your achievements, confidence, and the importance of youth among other things. In Asian cultures though, being humble and silent is respected and highly regarded in the business community. This is something you will learn about if you ever study commerce in school.
- bgrah449, on 05/12/2008, -2/+36America is a nation of immigrants. Note: If you're a legal immigrant in America - you're American! So saying "Immigrants invented all of your stuff," is like saying "Brits wrote the U.S. Constitution." Partially true, I guess, but nevertheless is a bit misleading.
- MasterPlayer, on 05/12/2008, -1/+32Seriously, Kotaku was just trying to get more hits to its site with that headline, and start a fanboy war. Kind of pathetic, and another thing that makes me lose my faith in video game journalism (the first was the Jeff G, Gamespot and Kane and Lynch fiasco.)
- daizaru, on 05/12/2008, -6/+28The ALLIES won the war. Russia couldn't win the war on their own... Nobody should get sole credit. I was going to digg you up because Kotaku is being childish in their retort, but I dugg you down for stupidity.
- rjosal, on 05/12/2008, -6/+25Good way to get metal gear on digg twice, apparently, but seriously, who is not sold on buying this game yet?
- Zamfir, on 05/12/2008, -1/+17Yes, Kotaku is a joke... biased as they come. They love their ad-bucks and do whatever, write whatever, it takes to drum-up cash for the coke fund.
- terencec, on 05/12/2008, -3/+19thats the power of a great writer/story teller
- TangentThought, on 05/12/2008, -12/+32Oh Kojima... your random analogies never cease to make me smile. I still remember when you compared the three consoles to various types of meals.
- inactive, on 05/12/2008, -5/+22"most of your inventions came from immigrants"
america is the land of immigrants, so you fail - UBStinky, on 05/12/2008, -9/+28Even if this "car" can't go into space. I'm excited non the less.
- protogenxl, on 05/12/2008, -1/+15Speaking as a mech fanboy.
WHERE THE HELL IS Z.O.E. 3 !!!!!!!!!!!!! - bluerei, on 05/12/2008, -1/+15"I submitted the story to Kotaku that started this whole thing"
I was the spelling bee champ in 3rd grade. - EricAnderton, on 05/12/2008, -2/+16I'm pretty sure it was something like:
Wii - cafeteria food
XBox - family meal at home
Ps3 - eating sushi, with a naked supermodel, in the back seat of a limo. - Phyltre, on 05/12/2008, -0/+13Those without PS3s.
- 1gunners4, on 05/12/2008, -2/+15Russia was getting crushed until the Soviet Winter aided in halting the Germans. Had Hitler listened to his Generals, pulled out and continued his campaign in the spring, Russia would have fallen. They were also greatly aided in the opening of a second and third front by the Americans and Brits in Europe and Africa, forcing the Germans to take offensive forces away from the Eastern battles.
- Matt2k, on 05/12/2008, -4/+16I come from the USA. Thus, this country is the greatest. I am the greatest. Best ever, the end. Tens of thousands of years of human evolution and refinement have lead to me.
You're welcome. - mywhitenoise, on 05/12/2008, -3/+13Look at his profile. Collapse is a complete dumbass.
Almost all of his comments are about Xbox Live being better than PSN. His name is "XBL>PSN", his 'about me' says "Pissing Sony Fannyboys off since 2001". - daizaru, on 05/12/2008, -1/+10I have to admit I do rely on Kotaku for a lot of news, but I have to ignore their personal commentary because it's awful. I only wish most of their patrons would do the same.
Anyone with half a brain knew the original statement was a misquote. Why they feel the need to defend themselves to such a degree when Kojima went out of his way to give an extremely elaborate conveyance of what he really meant just seems petty and small of them.
At least some diggers can read between the lines. - andydumi, on 05/12/2008, -1/+10Ditto. I am a first generation naturalized immigrant, but I think of myself as an American. And I hold several patents. Does it make my inventions any less American that I was born elsewhere?
- kingmanic, on 05/12/2008, -1/+11Edison is a horrible example, he took credit for him employees inventions and invented little himself.
Foreign inventors/scientists who worked to improve the US:
Tesla
Einstein
Bell
von Braun
Bethe
Fermi
Meitner
Bohr
etc...
Foreign Scientists make up a disproportionate number of academia and corporate researchers.

US science and innovation is powered by immigrant scientists because native born are less inclined to become scientists. - Inverno, on 05/12/2008, -0/+9Read bgrah449's comment again.
- djSyndrome, on 05/12/2008, -0/+9You really should get out and see the rest of the world sometime.
- BlueSkyfish, on 05/12/2008, -1/+9Metroid Prime 3 didn't really sell that well. Which is a shame since it's such an excellent game.
- NiceGuyVan, on 05/12/2008, -1/+9He was right though... It's called an analogy
- MiDri, on 05/12/2008, -1/+9Sounds like a rapper's dream!
- slaystench, on 05/12/2008, -0/+9Kotaku is *****, way to take what he said out of context.
- kingmanic, on 05/12/2008, -0/+7While i agree that Japan did very horrible things and remains very xenophobic, Kojima isn't the living embodiment of WWII japan.
- zetsurin, on 05/12/2008, -0/+7Trolling.
- NecroSexy, on 05/12/2008, -1/+8Kotaku: interweb journalists par excellence. "Analogies? Who would be interested in that?--we convert it to implication insofar as we don't understand his analogies."
- bluerei, on 05/12/2008, -1/+9I thought he said Wii = tv, xbox = home theater, and ps3 = movie theater.
- kingmanic, on 05/12/2008, -4/+13Halo and Gears of War weren't exclusives.
- zetsurin, on 05/12/2008, -2/+10Welcome to 2008 retard. Heck, welcome to 2007.
- kingmanic, on 05/12/2008, -3/+10So being able to play them on a PC makes them exclusive to the 360? You are an idiot.
- mywhitenoise, on 05/12/2008, -0/+6I do, let it end gracefully and remake the first two Metal Gears.
- mywhitenoise, on 05/12/2008, -1/+13I do spend a lot of time on here, what the hell else am I going to do while I'm at work?
Talking about taking things too seriously, you've devoted yourself to being an anti-PSN troll, that's far beyond more pathetic than anything I have ever done. Whatever, it puts a smile on my face that you're 25 years old and have never had sex with a woman before. - NiceGuyVan, on 05/12/2008, -0/+6The day people get flying cars will be the day a large amount of people die causing massive collatoral damage to the city below
- shinythingy, on 05/12/2008, -1/+8Sales = Quality of game?
- daizaru, on 05/12/2008, -2/+7He references that it was more abuzz on the internet than the magazine, Kotaku is just associating themselves as the entire internet and having a bit of a tantrum about being called out.
- Destinatus, on 05/12/2008, -2/+7If it plays games it counts, *****. If it plays the same exact games as another system, those games aren't exclusive to one system! Is it really that complicated?
- YoctoYotta, on 05/12/2008, -0/+6nonetheless
- dasdef, on 05/12/2008, -0/+5thats why you sell that ***** wii. I know thats what im doing :)
- inactive, on 05/12/2008, -4/+10Being an American gamer I completely agree with his statements, thats how the market is over here, at E3, thats all devs do (say "omg this is the best and we will win")
- SniperGX1, on 05/12/2008, -1/+6Don't feed the troll.
- Andrwmorph, on 05/12/2008, -1/+6Congrats! You caught an insignificant grammatical error! Too bad you chose to draw attention to it and made yourself look like a complete ***** :'(
- ericrous, on 05/12/2008, -14/+21I have a PS3. I would say his analogy is appropriate only if you hate sushi, the supermodel is a dude, and the limo keeps backfiring.
- inactive, on 05/12/2008, -1/+7or you could .... you know... read the article, and stop being such a tool?
- kingmanic, on 05/12/2008, -2/+7Being available in another platform would preclude something from being exclusive. disqualifying a platform because it doesn't come with a joystick is disingenuous and pointless. I did read your comment and noticed the little trick you were trying to play and went out of my way to outline why it was asinine. You are an idiot.
- powatom, on 05/12/2008, -0/+5RTFA, moron.
