- triplehelix, on 11/28/2007, -3/+88regardless of recent anti-sony sentiment, all gamers owe ken thanks for his contributions to the industry.
- inactive, on 11/28/2007, -3/+61Well deserved, the Playstation helped bring gaming into mainstream culture and got rid of the "video games are toys" stereotype.
^this is coming from someone who has a mushroom from SMB as their avatar - shinythingy, on 11/28/2007, -2/+43Regardless of what console you support or if you hate SONY you cannot deny that he has done a lot for the gaming industry and that he deserves this award.
- triplehelix, on 11/28/2007, -2/+35he "gave birth" to the console that forced nintendo to release their monopolistic grip, and stop bullying devs.
he was the point man on the making sony a competitor in the console market, making both companies work hard to please the consumer. - felman87, on 11/28/2007, -6/+33PS2 was one of the best consoles ever
- KnockoutNerd, on 11/28/2007, -4/+26About time, his two consoles are the two top selling consoles of ALL TIME!
Congrats, Kutaragi. - jacksons98, on 11/28/2007, -7/+26PS2 went on to become the best selling console in history and a key driver of DVD adoption. I think that counts for something. What's wrong with PSP? I don't know why anyone would say "meh" to such a cool toy that lets you do so much. You can run emulated games, surf the web, play your music, store your photos, download demos, remote into your PS3 and there are a bunch of awesome PSP titles now.
- saifatlast, on 11/28/2007, -1/+19Man, he fathered 230 Million playstations though... I don't even want to think about what a freakshow this man's life has been.
- triplehelix, on 11/28/2007, -3/+19look into the history of nintendo, and their business practices before you defend them (their actions back then). things like forcing devs to agree not to release their game on any other console for x amount of years if they wanted it on a nintendo console.
- porplem, on 11/28/2007, -5/+21*Achievement Unlocked*
- Robbothehood, on 11/28/2007, -5/+19Recent sentiment has been pretty pro-Sony, or rather things have gotten back to where they should be. Things are on the up for the PS3, digg's put several positive Sony pages or pages with supportive comments on the front page in the past week or two.
- Paroparo, on 11/28/2007, -1/+14He got "promoted" into another division. Kinda like how in that one Trek movie Kirk got demoted back to a captain so he'd be where he's needed the most, except in reverse.
- Kurono, on 11/28/2007, -4/+16still is.
- maley, on 11/28/2007, -5/+16Like a few have said, if you hate this man you're just a senseless troll.
- RooDoG, on 11/28/2007, -1/+10Actually the PS3 is now on track with 360 sales in the US, the is just a year ahead
http://vgchartz.com/hwlaunch.php - narcosis219, on 11/28/2007, -1/+9He nabbed the award a couple times already.
- Bamborzled, on 11/28/2007, -0/+7"You cheap bankrupt gimick (wii) fanboys need to learn to read."
1. Who said anything about the Wii?
2. You're the fanboy. Nobody else here talked about the Wii until you brought it up. And you're getting dugg up for it. Unfortunate. - ShadowGT, on 11/28/2007, -4/+10How bout Miyamoto?! He has achieved more than Kutaragi in my opinion.
- daridave, on 11/28/2007, -0/+5I agree. I think how he acts in public is comparable to the monkeys in Earthbound (I'm sure he know PSI teleport, I'M SURE!!!), he's somehow a lil' overrated because (and I don't care if fanboys will disagree) SONY did steal a few things from Nintendo, but bottom line is no matter all the bad things I could come up with, I still respect that guy--err--man. He did a lot. Even for those who don't like SONY and the PlayStation brand -- he still did a lot for you guys, too... because he helped the industry move forward in giant leaps. For that, I personally say "thank you", and I hope many more feel the same way.
- bigbadgoat, on 11/28/2007, -1/+6but the PS2 had a really slow start
- ByteGuerilla, on 11/28/2007, -1/+6Absolutely. The Playstations made gaming what it is today, and regardless of any screwups that were made with the Playstation 3, he deserves recognition.
Bravo, Krazy Ken. - WinterWolf33, on 11/28/2007, -2/+7What mess? Have you not read the recent article that PS3 is achieving sales on par with the ones PS2 had? Sony doesn't have to recover from any mess.
The only problems that occurred at launch were the direct result of poor retail management. - DCstewieG, on 11/28/2007, -2/+5Have you asked yourself if that is really a good thing? Games used to be made by geeks for geeks. Now publishers throw the biggest net they can out there (see EA) to get the most sales. You've got games like Halo and Madden getting the most attention. Really? Halo? It's not bad at all but it certainly isn't GOTY type material. I can't help but wonder what the industry would be like if it was still Nintendo vs. Sega. No, they may not be rivaling the move industry in sales, but the game landscape could be totally different. I'm sure this will be modded down and that's fine...just the idle thoughts of an old school gamer (and big Sega dork...guess where the 'DC' comes from!)
- NightVortez, on 11/28/2007, -1/+4His future would not cancel out his past.
Either way he hasn't done anything yet to discredit his engineering career. - gr0ss, on 11/28/2007, -1/+4Umm, there were tons of "mature" (not rated per se, but probably could be the way they do ratings now) on the SNES and NES.
- ZenMojo, on 11/28/2007, -0/+2The PS2 is the best-selling system of all time (even more than the gameboys). Why not give the man an award?
- Shaflugi, on 11/28/2007, -2/+4I'd hate to see who mothered that many playstations!
- AvidPreatorian, on 11/28/2007, -0/+2thanks, really thanks man. for those happy saturday mornings, for those exciting christmas mornings, for a platform where imaginations could be drawn and brought to life, and for my fast thumb reflexes. thanks.
- demonsnake69, on 11/28/2007, -0/+2Bush isn't mature enough for the playstation?
- codelogic, on 11/28/2007, -0/+1Yes, except exclusivity is never FORCED. I't s always up to the developer.
- Dundasbro, on 11/28/2007, -3/+4Dick Cheese?
- DefaultGen, on 11/29/2007, -0/+1Sorry play games that I enjoy, I don't play games so I can brag that I play big kid games.
- ZenMojo, on 11/28/2007, -0/+1He didn't technically get promoted into another division. He got promoted to the head of all gaming divisions. Basically, he went from the guy in charge of the PS3 to the guy in charge of the guys in charge of the PS3, the PSP, and Sony first and second party gaming on the PSP, PS3, and the PC.
- GreyICE, on 11/28/2007, -1/+2You're one of those people who thinks that any band with more than a thousand sales of their CD has 'sold out to the man,' aren't you?
- comedianX, on 11/29/2007, -0/+1No, Kutagi and Sony legitimized gaming in the eyes of the mainstream. They turned game systems into consumer electronic devices, rather than toys.
- mos6507, on 12/02/2007, -0/+1Good time for him to get the award, now that he has no career left.
- comedianX, on 11/29/2007, -0/+1Not a joke per se, but I believe I remember a story about how sanctions on Iraq prevented them from buying powerful computers so they tried to import PS2s to control their "weapon systems." So one could argue that Kutaragi brought forth the Iraq war.
- s0nicfreak, on 11/28/2007, -1/+1You're one of those people who think that if something sells a lot it must be good, aren't you?
- TheGrandDuel, on 11/29/2007, -1/+0More like, "If it wasn't for Nintendo, the Playstation wouldn't a success". They gave Sony the idea.
- AriaStar, on 11/28/2007, -10/+8And how many lifetimes have been devoted to Playstations around the world? Seems he should get a few of these things.
- misfit410, on 11/28/2007, -5/+2"Well deserved, the Playstation helped bring gaming into mainstream culture and got rid of the "video games are toys" stereotype."
He had next to nothing to do with that, that stems from 10 year old Nintendo gamers growing up into 30 year old gamers who had a few more options. - DefaultGen, on 11/28/2007, -6/+3If PS3 sales are on par with PS2 then Wii and 360 must be demolishing records.
- inactive, on 11/28/2007, -4/+0RIIIIIIIIDGE RAAACERRRRR
- DefaultGen, on 11/28/2007, -11/+7SNES ftw.
- inactive, on 02/25/2009, -7/+3shove all your nintendo and girly games up your ass. goddamn bring me some mature games nintendo..oh wait you have none lmao.
- s0nicfreak, on 11/28/2007, -6/+1His accomplishments such as making games mainstream and changing the industry (for the worst) forever... yeah, thanks a ton Ken.
- demonsnake69, on 11/28/2007, -6/+1Every picture I see of Ken Kutaragi is ***** hilarious because he has that "I'm getting a rimjob!" smile. Still, I bought a PS1 and PS2 so I'll be digging this.
- GodIsntReal, on 11/28/2007, -11/+6PS2 is the greatest gaming console in history and will always be.
- DefaultGen, on 11/28/2007, -8/+2They figure they'd give it to him now before he does more things that will make them not want to give it to him.
- inactive, on 11/28/2007, -16/+10didn't he get fired?
