- chocobomog, on 10/19/2007, -6/+51But wait, wasn't Sony supposed to keep the 80 gig at $600 even after the 60 gig sold out at $500?!? That's what I read on digg the last time there was a price cut that everyone said wasn't a price cut. Sony was just "clearing the 60 gig inventory" and was going to continue to "rip off customers" by keeping the 80 gig at $600.
What happened guys? Hello? truspector? - charlescheese, on 10/19/2007, -4/+44Go play halo or something. Seriously dude, you must have some awesome 360 game to go play that's more fun than trolling ps3 threads all day?
- santasing, on 10/19/2007, -4/+44This is the absolute best time for a price drop. R&C is coming out in 1 or 2 weeks. Then all of the November goodness hits with Drake's, Assasin's Creed, Army of 2....
This is going to be an expensive winter. - whateverHeSaid, on 10/19/2007, -1/+30To have kids requires interaction with females. Do you honestly think a PS3 troll like truspector or KingGoonie is getting anything beyond callouses on their palm?
- jacksons98, on 10/19/2007, -9/+36@truspector
Or it could be a success like Sony's other format you may have heard of it before. It's called CD. - WhereAmI, on 10/19/2007, -2/+27You don't have any kids if you think HD-DVD will win. Buena Vista (Disney) and Blu-Ray are the next generation. I suppose its a good thing you don't have kids and can't make the difference. Speaking of Bravo, their Bravia TVs are doing quite well in performance and sales.
- walkingdogs, on 10/18/2007, -0/+23I think that's what R&C is! Flip the light switch on please.
- acurism, on 10/18/2007, -2/+23Seriously, if you are not interested then why are you posting.
And I think you answered your own statement, "I thought this wasn't even rumor anymore, but pretty much known fact"
It was "pretty much a known fact", but it was not actually confirmed from Sony until now.
Don't waste your time kid and go Troll somewhere else. - TypeEE, on 10/18/2007, -2/+23I wonder how much does it cost them to make a ps3 now? It used to be $800usd, but what is it now?
- mywhitenoise, on 10/19/2007, -2/+22Warhawk, Resistance, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Ratchet and Clank, Heavenly Sword, Motorstorm, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, Tekken Dark Resurrection, Flow, Super Stardust, Folklore, Assassin's Creed, Uncharted?
- coheedcollapse, on 10/19/2007, -1/+19The lower end 360 (right above the lowest model) has a 20 gig hard drive. It's not that hard.
- Topher06, on 10/19/2007, -9/+27I don't know, maybe its just the PS3 fanboy in me, but I think sometime in the near future Sony will be having a good laugh all the way to the bank with this system. I just laugh because of people's short memory and forgetting that the Xbox360 was in the same position last year, low sales, only a few decent games offered on it. I mean, this time last year the only anticipated game for the Xbox360 was Gears of War, but Sony has a slew of highly anticipated games coming out nearing its first birthday. I would buy an Xbox360 if Microosft makes them reliable and there are more games for it then Halo3. I actually own more enjoyable games for the PS3 then the number of games I would want to buy on the Xbox360 platform, and the PS3 is only turning one. In any case, price drops are good overall as there are still lots of closet PS3 fanboys waiting for the right excuses.
- andres9888, on 10/19/2007, -8/+26I am thinking getting a ps3 now just for blueray .
- ohmyblazes, on 10/18/2007, -2/+18Direct link: http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid= ...
- finalcloud33, on 10/18/2007, -1/+16Its about damn time!! Maybe I will buy one now...
- santasing, on 10/19/2007, -0/+1440GB PS3 No back compat = $400
60GB PS3 full hardware back compat = $400 to $500 till stocks last
80GB PS3 software emulated back compat = $500 - coheedcollapse, on 10/19/2007, -1/+14Actually, the PS3 uses a laptop drive. It's a 2.5 inch notebook drive. I know this because you can replace it with any other size 2.5 inch SATA laptop drive.
You can get a 120gb drive for your PS3 for $70 if you'd like.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82 ... - acurism, on 10/19/2007, -1/+14Goto Sonystyle.com and get their credit card which gives you $100 credit
You can get the 80GB PS3 $499 - $100 Sonystyle.com Credit = $399 for 80GB with BC
or
Get the 40GB PS3 at $399 - $100 Sonystyle.com Credit = $299 for 40GB without BC - Segitz, on 10/29/2007, -1/+14It was a joint effort...
Sony did the audio codecs and stuff and Philips did the CDs themselves... So basically a 50/50 venture - coheedcollapse, on 10/19/2007, -1/+13"None of my friends play it"
The reason that brilliant games like Okami and Psychonauts failed. Not that any of these are comparable, but still. Very weak excuse. - m4szyman, on 10/19/2007, -5/+17yeah man I could get Ponyz for my Wii and < insert generic first person shooter here > for the 360, how could I possibly want a ps3 instead?
- bahamutxd, on 10/19/2007, -2/+13.. said the guy with the Master Chief icon.
- mywhitenoise, on 10/18/2007, -2/+13What's your number?
- Exhaust, on 10/19/2007, -2/+12Once again the great Goon is trolling the PS3 forums to post pointless comments. If it doesn't have something to do with the Wii you hate it... Okay we get it now STFU.
Yes it was obvious for a long time but its now official. - acurism, on 10/18/2007, -1/+11So, what is your definition of news then?
I'm sure if it is anything that is negative towards Sony and the PS3 then it is news to you, right?
And please, don't call me kid. Only kids Troll as you do. - Crosshare, on 10/19/2007, -3/+13So can someone clarify, because Sony sure as hell isn't doing a good job of it. Is this $500.00 ps3 80gig, one that has backwards compatibility or is that is that phased out. I'm so confused anymore. I need an excel chart or something.
- scabbers, on 10/19/2007, -3/+12"I think the educational curve is starting to be broached with the general consumer," Tretton told Reuters in an interview, when asked about his expectations for the PS3 through the end of the year."
What? - santasing, on 10/29/2007, -3/+12Okie dokie....I saw an listing for a ball-and-cup game the other day on Craigslist, you wanna?
- greenlight2001, on 10/18/2007, -2/+11You two guys should break dance fight to settle this.
- Laughto, on 10/19/2007, -5/+14It's really simple. Basically, you can get a $500 80GB PS3 with 3 USB ports and partial backwards compatibility, a $400 60GB PS3 with 2 USB ports and no backwards compatibility, a 2.3rd generation $560 PS3 with 50GB, 5 USB ports and partial-to-full backwards compatibility or a new generation PS3 that takes elements from each of the other types. Alternatively, you can order a limited 2nd generation PS3 with special compatibility (simply divide the PS3 generation number you have chosen by 2, add the number of USB sockets you would prefer, send off the application form and wait for 10-15 business days for an approval). Personally I will be going for the $0 0GB no PS3 with 0 USB ports and no backwards compatibility. Hope this helps!
- mywhitenoise, on 10/19/2007, -2/+11since when did games cost $200?
- kkapoor, on 10/19/2007, -1/+9I for one find this great news. I don't have any PS2 games. I want a blu-ray player and a PS3 to play FIFA 08 on. This is the perfect fit for myself and scores of other people. I think the new system will sell extremely well in North America to the general non-hardcore gamer.
In regards to the lack of PS2 compatibility. The existing PS2 will drop in price to $99.99 before Christmas. If people want full backwards compat they can simply pick up a cheap PS2 which I'm sure Newegg will sell for $79.99, LOL! It's tiny and silent. I think the strategy is the right one.
Not to mention the immense advantage this will generate in the uptake of the Blu-Ray format. - reconflux, on 10/19/2007, -0/+8The 60GB sku will always be the best. It has nothing removed and 100% backwards compatibility. You can always upgrade the HD when you need more space. By then prices for 2.5 HDs will be cheaper and have more storage.
- charlescheese, on 10/18/2007, -0/+8You should at least pick up Ratchet. It's an amazing game...
- YouRookies, on 10/19/2007, -0/+8The 80GB is already $499.99 NO TAX + Motorstorm + 5 FREE Blu-Rays at Amazon
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000TVT8PI/ ... - xOpifex, on 10/18/2007, -0/+8The $500 80gig PS3 still has the backwards compatibility. The 40gig $400 version does not have backwards compatibility, has 2 less USB ports, and no card reader.
- roxya, on 10/19/2007, -0/+8The 60Gb ones have full hardware BC. I imagine quite a few people will be willing to pay for that and lose the 20Gb storage.
- modix, on 10/18/2007, -0/+8Way to rewrite history... you do know that Blu-ray is a big joint venture as well?
- maxtypezero, on 10/19/2007, -4/+12i totally did NOT see that one coming
- kevyn, on 10/18/2007, -0/+8answer: no
- charlescheese, on 10/19/2007, -2/+10My wii has been collecting dust for the past 9 months. I can't bring myself to buy Wii games over PS3 games right now. That's just me though. I appreciate what Nintendo tried to do, and if you look at my comments from a year ago you will see that I was truly beyond hyped about the Wii. I think that the Wii-Mote was a great experiment, but in the end it's just not sensitive enough, quick enough, or responsive enough to do what I was hoping it would do. I really don't feel that it's added anything to standard gaming. Wii Sports to me is still the only real reason to own a Wii in addition to a PS3/360.
- CaffeinePowered, on 10/19/2007, -0/+7What I'm wondering is what these announcements will do to the ebay value of the older models with the Emotion Engine. Id rather have the 20gig with full BC than either the 40g w/nothing or the 80g w/software only
- Foxhound1979, on 10/19/2007, -2/+9360 have good games Wii have games that Nintedo fanboys will play just cause ut has a new coat of paint. Latest poll in Japan is that 60% of Wii owners have their Wii's collecting dust.
- charlescheese, on 10/29/2007, -2/+9It's the same company that said that, then ate crow and implemented it. A bad company would have stuck to their guns and not listened to what their customers were saying and permanently left rumble off.
- inactive, on 10/19/2007, -2/+8Pardon me but I have two questions:
1) What differences, if any, other than HDD size, are there between the 40Gb and 80Gb models?
2) This is not a shot at PS3, but are there any decent games for it yet? If so, can someone name some I can look up.
As you can see, I'm trying to open my mind and look into purchasing one. :D - santasing, on 10/19/2007, -9/+15Its not down to $300, but I do have a job which any mentally and physically able person will be able to do. Pays standard market rate. Want to take a step out of the basement and have at it. I am sure you can make $100 in a couple of days.
- chandler55, on 10/19/2007, -0/+6yay for canadian currency
- ncnavguy, on 10/18/2007, -0/+6Check out warhawk and resistance fall of man, also Folklore. Thats what genral consensus says are the best ps3 games that are currently out.
- deifal, on 10/18/2007, -0/+6The 80 gig is already selling cheaper in Canada, check out www.bestbuy.ca and futureshop(they are giving you 2 games with it).
- inactive, on 10/18/2007, -0/+6quitar hero as well. I really picked the wrong time to buy a PS3. At least i got $120 off cause i was friends with a wal mart csm :)
