I think I saw that DVD once. Alas, the vixens were deprived of rumble - Renton, on 10/10/2007, -27/+118So now the list of AAA PS3 exclusives has dropped to
"MGS4
Ratchet and Clank
And many more!!!11!!1" - hater2win, on 10/10/2007, -5/+80I played it, it sucks. I love my PS3, but I will keep playing Warhawk tyvm.
- dunlop, on 10/10/2007, -4/+68Seriously does PLAY magazine give any game a score of less that 90% ?
- Responder656, on 10/10/2007, -2/+65Metacritic sees Lair scores on a 6.2 average. This is bad news.
http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/ps3/lair?q=lair - Shanobi, on 10/10/2007, -8/+68And another of the "AAA" games, turns out to be a dud.
Glad Sony did a half assed imitation of the Wii remote. That seems to have really payed off for them! - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -18/+60Heavenly Sword disappointment and now this? My PS3 will be collecting dust until Home comes out now.
That's ok, I still gots to finish Bioshock and Metroid Prime 3 :) - Bricks, on 10/10/2007, -2/+42Hate to spoil your party before it even begins, but there is no rumble support
- chawkie, on 10/10/2007, -12/+47Am I the only one who kind of feels bad for Sony here? Just when things appear to be looking up with two anticipated exclusive titles, they both turn out to be turds (although I am still not convinced that Heavenly Sword will suck). I played this at CES and was hoping that they would polish it but it sounds like it plays the same (bad). I don't know how they plan on competing with Microsoft with all the killer exclusive titles that they have out this season. All I know is that at this point it doesn't look like I will be using my PS3 for anything other then Blu Ray titles until March.
- Repeater2000, on 10/10/2007, -7/+38Sony 'stole' this and heavenly sword from the X360 with big payoffs. Overpaying unproven devs has not worked out it would seem
- IkeMavent, on 10/10/2007, -2/+33A PS3 is my only "next-gen" console, and I think it's hilarious how ***** awful these reviews are...wtf happened? I just have to laugh at how badly this came out...there's no doubt in my mind that this game is ***** awful. If Sony had a brain they would push the release date back ANOTHER 2 months and have them totally rework the control scheme. Thank God warhawk is pretty fun.
- taxman, on 10/10/2007, -4/+35No......cos their scale is 9-10

1UP 6.0
"Lair is a game that you'll want for its eye-popping experience rather than its gameplay. So buy it if you want to justify all the thousands you spent on your PS3 and that 1080p HDTV you can see from the International Space Station. Don't buy it if you want a dragon that does what it's damn well told."
Electronic Gaming Monthly 5.5
Don't buy it if you want a dragon that does what it's told."
PSM Magazine 5.0
"Strip away the graphics and novelty controls and Lair is exposed for what it is: an average shooter the likes of which we've all played before on two earlier PlayStation iterations."
GameBrink 4.0
"Shocking mistake number 3 is the framerate. Running in 1080p you’ll have several situations where the game chugs like no other. Massive amounts of enemies will make the game a slideshow and will ultimately lead to you breaking something." - ImADharmaBum, on 10/10/2007, -12/+41I was going to buy a PS3 to play this game. Wow. I am so glad I waited for reviews to come out.
- dunlop, on 10/10/2007, -2/+30Instead of getting mad at IGN, as much as you want to console yourself they are the least likely to be influenced by MS, Sony or Nintendo. How about you get mad at Sony? They obviously did not give the support that was needed and was more likely behind forcing exclusive use of the SIXAXIS control for the dragon in order to promote some kind of "We are as good as the Wii in motion sensing, just look at Lair!!" and it backfired. Also these two were supposed to be the titles that showed how BlueRay is a MUST HAVE to make next gen games and they failed again.
They really needed Lair and HS to get back into the game, especially in North America and again they have failed. I am a Wii60 owner that wants Sony to do well as competition is good and I will eventually pick one up but currently they are F*cking the pooch at everything they try. - southpawz, on 10/10/2007, -6/+34Someone is lying about the controls. Either IGN or Kotaku
http://kotaku.com/gaming/impressions/sloppy-seconds-+-lair-292997.php - ambrosious, on 10/10/2007, -1/+28I imagine he's giving a lot more weight to the gameplay factor, as it should be. Gameplay and lasting appeal are always the most important factors for any game's success.
- EvilOtto, on 10/10/2007, -0/+26for some reason I imagined the comic book guy saying this as I read it and it slayed me.
- TRUEPATRIOT, on 10/10/2007, -3/+27i dont think kotakus guy had enough time with it.he played it at a game show where you play 1-2 lvls and move on.igns guy played thru the game for hours.no ones lying they each just spent different times playing the game.
- PwnisherX, on 10/10/2007, -19/+43Don't count on it.
- KyleMistry, on 10/10/2007, -8/+32God dammit, not this AGAIN.
- postal21, on 10/10/2007, -3/+27did anyone really expect anything less?
while the graphics have always looked fairly stunning, the gameplay has always appeared to be very shallow, and with the review pointing to the control difficulties, youd wish they wouldnt have used a controller gimmick as the main controls for this title. - ricree, on 10/10/2007, -5/+28Did you actually read the article? While the reviewer certainly didn't praise the sixaxis control, there were a ton of other complaints. Also, the link you posted is a quick playthrough of the demo, whereas IGN's article is a review of the full game.
- Jotaro, on 10/10/2007, -1/+24Play gave Sonic the Hedgehog for Xbox360 a 9.0...take that as you will
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+22You see, theres this thing called a "video game". People play them... a lot of people. Hey, a 1985 teen movie called, they want their douchebag highschool jock back.
- estvir, on 10/10/2007, -6/+27I guess you haven't seen much of the 360's line up.
Here's a starting point: BioShock, it has both. - Slacker1031, on 10/10/2007, -5/+26methinks it's Kotaku. I don't know who's paying him off but i've had better luck driving square pegs into round holes than using these controls. Hopefully Sony will drop the novelty act in some of the bigger titles (from now on at least).
- Klarth, on 10/10/2007, -2/+22So, this is basically Rogue Squadron with dragons, with the one difference that it's *****.
- tdous, on 10/10/2007, -0/+20Finish him!
- BlackKnight6, on 10/10/2007, -1/+20It is either that or just going beyond the hardware limits, which is easy to do. Alot of people don't remember but Goldeneye had some ***** framerate in heavy scenes, were talking less than 10FPS but it was still a great game, the devs felt the graphics made up for the low FPS...
- trc0, on 10/10/2007, -3/+22It doesn't matter how you spin it, in the end there is no way I'm buying a 4.9 game
- DiscoPotato, on 10/10/2007, -0/+19Yep, just what I expected. A PS3 game gets a low score and all of the sudden IGN is the worst site ever. Oh please.
- sam98597, on 10/10/2007, -0/+19PLAY seems to only rate games based on graphics and the art style. If the game looks cool, it gets a 10.
- venom8599, on 10/10/2007, -0/+18That's pretty sad for a game from Factor 5. You'd think they'd know how to make a game that involved large amounts of flying pretty well, considering they're most famous for Star Wars: Rogue Squadron and it's sequels.
- tdous, on 10/10/2007, -0/+18FATALITY!
- venom8599, on 10/10/2007, -1/+19I think they use a good scale. The score is determined by what's supposedly more important: gameplay and lasting appeal.
- Sirocco, on 10/10/2007, -1/+18I guess you forgot to read the blurb right below that stating the final number IS NOT AN AVERAGE. Gameplay and lasting appeal are more heavily weighted than the others.
- thejitters, on 10/10/2007, -0/+17"Biggest nerds"? Dude, have you even SEEN the Linux section??
- PwnisherX, on 10/10/2007, -3/+20"whereas the 360 won't see something like GoW for a long time."
Halo 3 comes out in less than a month. Sure is a long time. - samdu, on 10/10/2007, -7/+24Just because HS got a high profile "bad" review doesn't mean it's a disappointment. Gamerankings has it at 85% and metacritic has it at 83%. By contrast, Lair is about 20 points lower on both sites.
- reddevil3, on 10/10/2007, -2/+19Even in this day and age, we have games with framerate problems...are developers just not competent enough?
- SPARTACVS, on 10/10/2007, -5/+21I think that's what Sony was hoping for too, to be a system seller... all the ingredients are there. Big dragon battles with lots of characters, massive 1080p FMV cutscene files so they can say it NEEDED bluray, 1080p in game graphics at the cost of a chugging sub-30 framerate, sixaxis ONLY control so players are forced to move away from joysticks...
- Rioracer916, on 10/10/2007, -2/+18Story of my life with Sony.
I could find value in my PS1 and PS2. Both systems had decent games, even 9 months after launch. The problem with a $600 plus tax price tag is that you need more justification to buy a video game system than you did with the past two playstations. One game is not worth the nearly $700 entrance fee...sorry.
When I bought my Playstation it was $149.99 and had proven AAA titles. I bought my PS2 for $299.99, for SSX and GTA 3, as well as the other proven AAA games. The DVD player was a great bonus since it was the STANDARD next generation movie format and you could walk into any video store and rent DVDs.
Playstation 3 is (so far) a bunch of hopes and dreams with little to show for all of the starry-eyed dreaming. Sure the Folding@ Home software is a nice boost to Stanford's R&D but it doesn't justify me spending $700 to burn electricity.
The delay of GTA IV, mediocre reviews of Heavenly Sword and Lair, and the fact that HOME won't be fully complete till a year after the software's launch means that Sony doesn't have much ammo for the upcoming holiday season fire fight.
I cannot believe that a once dominating game company threw it all away that fast...oh wait I think I'm getting a case of deja vu. That's right it was Nintendo. Well If nintendo could turn it around I think Sony might have a chance, it's not like they put all their eggs into one basket or anything... - gwolf, on 10/10/2007, -1/+16You are the worst kind of fan boy, every system has one or two games that even you would like but your prejudice blinds you.
- skankme, on 10/10/2007, -2/+17Where are you getting this stuff? Do you think a 62% on a college exam is also "quite good?" Do you think a 5/10 is "average" because 5 is half of 10? That's not how this kinda thing usually works. Besides, IGN (and most other sites) defines their rating system. So like it or not - a 4.9 review on that site equates to "poor" and a 6.3 is "barely passable" -- http://games.ign.com/ratings.html
I don't know why everyone is getting so hung up on VG review scores lately. If you're interested in the game RTFA. If not, who cares if it's a 4/10 or a 10/10. Or whether 10/10 means "perfect" or not. Just read the damn review if you care, and stop obsessing about the score. Geez. - SPARTACVS, on 10/10/2007, -2/+17http://image.com.com/gamespot/images/2005/135/925558_20050516_screen005.jpg

Sure looks like Dynasty ***** Warriors to me too! Fanboy piece of *****. "Oh really, disagree with me!" STFU. - smacksaw, on 10/10/2007, -2/+17Then I guess I won't offer you a job helping me rate eBay game vendors...
- LemonChicken, on 10/10/2007, -2/+17How clever.
What the hell are you doing on digg? If you're just here to troll, you have absolutely no right making fun of other people..
Dick. - pixelate, on 10/10/2007, -6/+21So you're going to dust off the PS3 to play pool and watch Sony advertisements on virtual televisions. I love it.
- heartless_, on 10/10/2007, -7/+21Who feels sorry for Sony? They are the ones that decided to go ahead with an overpowered game console that pushes graphics and Blu-Ray above all else. Is it any wonder that game developers make graphically beautiful games that play like absolute crap? Only very few games will pull off great gameplay and great graphics at the same time. However, many games will pull off great gameplay regardless of their graphics.
To feel sorry for Sony, is to ignore the fact that they made the wrong choices in regards to the PS3 and blatantly ignored the trends in the market. -
