- ZephyrNinety, on 06/30/2008, -16/+95The PS3 is shaping up to be a good investment =]
- whyteeford, on 06/30/2008, -4/+77I don't need a new way to get Rick Roll'd :(
- krische, on 06/30/2008, -2/+58This seems kind of redundant.
1) You can already go to youtube in the browser and watch there.
2) The PS3 can already access your computers music, video, and pictures using DLNA. - Hawk117, on 06/30/2008, -3/+39Just curious, what is the difference between this and normal streaming between my PC/Console and using youtube.com in the PS3 browser?
- inactive, on 06/29/2008, -9/+37it just keeps getting better
- IRoaChI, on 06/30/2008, -3/+30It was never 'not a good investment'
- slifty, on 06/30/2008, -16/+42If you have to say it retrospectively, then the investment was probably irrational
- slifty, on 06/30/2008, -4/+28Are you suggesting video game consoles are a good form of long term investment...? Anyway you caught me, I haven't heard of the stock market.
- inactive, on 06/29/2008, -2/+18This sounds cool. I'll install it when I get home.
Can somebody tell me... is this youtube quality content going to the PS3? I don't think I want that ***** on my HDTV :( - pkulak, on 06/30/2008, -1/+17I'm just waiting for Hulu to do the same.
- masterofgrond, on 06/30/2008, -2/+18So it basically does exactly what tversity does?
- Checkerd, on 06/30/2008, -1/+17How about the old way?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EwTZ2xpQwpA - stirlo, on 06/30/2008, -0/+13yeah it does, not that there isn't like 5 alternative options already!
- Sornos, on 06/30/2008, -0/+12You can stream music and video from your computer, but not from the internet.
- Morac, on 06/30/2008, -0/+11Yes you can watch YouTube using the PS3's web browser. What this plugin does is give you access to the AVC H.264 encoded versions of You Tube files. Unfortunately it doesn't work very well and the video tends to get hiccups or freeze periodically.
On the plus side, Google's DLNA server streams mp4 files which Windows WMP 11 does not (*). Unfortunately all video served by Google's media server also suffers from the same freezing that You Tube videos do. Also the media server ended up creating about 30,000 cache files on my machine while looking for media to serve.
(*) - I've read that you can set up WMP 11 to stream mp4 files and I tried to do that with my PS3, but I've given up trying to get it to work. The best I can do is add the ability to import mp4 files into WMP 11's library. Attempting to serve them to my PS3 results in the PS3 reporting that the files are not supported. - DarkDx, on 06/30/2008, -0/+10Readin......comprehension........fail
- crunshii, on 06/30/2008, -2/+12Can you do this in a xbox?
- Lazydriver, on 06/30/2008, -0/+10Yay classic edition!
Wha... Bastard. This ain't a Rickroll. - mrhedges, on 06/30/2008, -0/+9Thank you Google, because now I don't have to deal with Windows Media Player anymore.
- inactive, on 06/30/2008, -0/+9..But can I stream young girls dancing in front of their webcams to my ps3?
- petard, on 06/30/2008, -0/+9Yeah I don't get it. Windows already has a UPnP (DLNA) server for streaming, and the PS3 can access YouTube from its browser. What does this do? People are obsessed with Google though so they will download and install.
- kpwells, on 06/30/2008, -1/+9"a free Windows app that sends media files to your TV via the Playstation 3 and other Universal Plug-and-Play (UPnP) devices."
What other UPnP devices does it support? - ZephyrNinety, on 06/30/2008, -10/+18Ever heard of the stock market?
- StarExtreme, on 06/30/2008, -0/+8I miss Stage6.
- jarjarwang, on 06/30/2008, -0/+7Does it stream Divx and stuff to ps3?
- theaceoffire, on 06/30/2008, -1/+8Linux has a few too, and Mac as well I believe..
- cyrix, on 06/30/2008, -1/+7Take your 4chan ***** back to 4chan.
- FoxOrian, on 06/30/2008, -0/+6Pretty simple. Media servers allow you to stream media instead of having copies of it installed on all of your devices. Allows for easier access while your other devices still benefit from more free space. Most people only have 40GB's on their PS3's, so content streaming comes as a big easy way to get whats usually on your computer to your entertainment center.
- Oronar, on 06/30/2008, -1/+7Does it for the PS3 too.
- inactive, on 06/30/2008, -1/+7What's ugly about it? It's about as minimal and "stay out of the way" as browsers get.
- warsongs7, on 06/30/2008, -0/+6Not all investments are monetary. Spending money on something that gives you something other than money is also an investment.
- GTanaka, on 06/30/2008, -0/+5I'm just hoping it can do it, minus all the crashing and awful seektime.
- leakus, on 06/30/2008, -0/+4What is your point? You could've put Linux on your PS3.
- iNNeRKaoS, on 06/30/2008, -1/+5What the ***** is wrong with you?
- DarkoKun, on 06/30/2008, -0/+4Meh I just use Tversity.
- vinnyvenus, on 06/30/2008, -0/+4http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=emchMrv647A
- dolemite01, on 06/30/2008, -0/+4At time of development the only way to connect the XBox 360 to a UPnP
server, was to have a service that is only found on Microsoft services
(used for registering for DRM content) and for the server itself to be
claimed to be made by microsoft. Legal would not allow us to pretend
to be microsoft (although there are other servers out there that do).
-Media Server Team - meebio, on 06/30/2008, -1/+5Tversity works just fine for me.
- inactive, on 06/30/2008, -5/+9At the cost of a console, it is a long term investment. And a good one, so yes.
- jakatak, on 06/30/2008, -2/+6Great. Now I can see blurry dark poorly produced videos in HD.
- KineticShampoo, on 06/30/2008, -2/+5Exactly. What's the point of streaming youtube videos to your television set? Can't you just watch it on your computer without the hassle?
Someone explain the use of this. - BountyHNZ, on 06/30/2008, -1/+4ahh....i can already watch youtube on my TV with the PS3 internet browser......
- brownsound00, on 06/30/2008, -0/+3He's never gonna let you down
- optoomistic, on 06/30/2008, -13/+16no mac support.?.?..BOOOO!!
- pkulak, on 06/30/2008, -1/+4Hopefully it would be the "high quality" content.
- DiggaDave, on 06/30/2008, -0/+3Google should just buy out TVersity and work out all the kinks and load times.
- grantmoore3d, on 06/30/2008, -0/+3Here's an interesting idea, just turn your old PC into a media box using wireless keyboard+mouse.
- ZimbuTheMonkey, on 06/30/2008, -0/+3You could have used TVersity. I use it to stream everything to my 360.
- Narcowski, on 06/30/2008, -0/+34 years ago was a bit late...
- drifter, on 06/30/2008, -0/+3I think Google missed it. First off Orb has been out for sometime. Works on my computer, my ps3, my brothers xbox 360 and i can check my files on my girlfriends computer. Stream movies, look at photos etc.
I tried the Google version and it really doesnt offer anything different or new. Hopefully that will change soon. And the Youtube videos look horrible. -
