- yocouchdigga, on 10/31/2009, -1/+42IT'S OVER 90--wait, a hundred bucks?
Isn't that kind of an industry norm now, regular is $50-60, special edition's $100+ but never $200? - ShingoEX, on 10/31/2009, -1/+34I'm trying to understand the logic behind exclusive demo access for people who pre-order games. It's like "Try out the game to see if you want to buy it...BUT, you have to buy it first!"
It's like finding a food sampling cart at the grocery store, but you can only sample the food if you buy a box of it first. - Ajajadude, on 10/31/2009, -2/+32Agreed. Based on the title, I was expecting a hell of a lot more than $100.
- WhereAmI, on 10/31/2009, -5/+33It's 100$. Not really ripping apart my wallet.
- MacGyver2210, on 10/31/2009, -8/+29As a game developer, I am ashamed. When will these huge franchises realize that they're making us look like morons? $100 for a game, a box, and an art book? That's still a ripoff, even if the box is wicked. People don't usually throw down that much for a single game unless it really delivers, and it seems like this game is going to come up short. 'Arena Mode' should be a normal game feature and bonuses shouldn't be DLC.
If you're going to make a super awesome collectors edition, at least include something badass like a plastic version of the main character's favorite weapon or a strategy guide - anything cool or useful worth the extra cost. A shiny 'Collectors Edition' box isn't gonna cut it. - OfoarHeffinsake, on 10/31/2009, -1/+16Yeah, what's up with Sony Computer Entertainment of America not giving one of their biggest titles to their competitors? What a bunch of jerks!
Win dressing intense. - ShingoEX, on 10/31/2009, -2/+16Who do you blame...
...the company, or the people who keep buying it? - Caergrim, on 10/31/2009, -3/+14What makes you responsible for three children in Africa?
- TotalHalibut, on 10/31/2009, -2/+13And yet still, it's cheaper than Modern Warfare 2's.
- inactive, on 10/31/2009, -3/+14The box is pretty cool.
- theghoul, on 10/31/2009, -1/+11I don't even have a PS3 and I'll be buying this.
- lastmaster, on 10/31/2009, -1/+11no, YOU care a complete douchebag!!
- Zamfir, on 10/31/2009, -1/+11It's from Joystiq... they love their sensational headlines and hate anything Sony.
- angryfirelord, on 10/31/2009, -2/+12It's over 9000 cents!
- Chubbly, on 10/31/2009, -1/+9HA, have some feeling for your fellow man in Australasia:
US$90 for MW2 on steam. Store price ain't much better. ***** you Activision. $30 extra to push some bits some insignificant distance. - TrevorBelmont, on 10/31/2009, -1/+9Golden Grahams, now with free sample of Golden Grahams!
- Turbojugend27, on 10/31/2009, -2/+10how is 30 more dollars for a kick ass box, ripping your wallet apart?
- fms45, on 10/31/2009, -2/+8I ve just downloaded the demo of GOW 3. And I must say it is amazing game. I was inspirated by the author of this post and published video of GOW 3 gameplay ( http://digg.com/playstation/God_of_War_III_Demo_Br ... ).
- LocalDocal, on 10/31/2009, -0/+6Actually, I believe Steel Battalion was $200, so games have reached that price before.
- dsmx, on 10/31/2009, -1/+7and looks a lot cooler.
- JudgeMonkey, on 10/31/2009, -1/+6And Pandora's box!
Which apparently instead of containing hope, contains the mighty morphing power rangers ability to grow. - websyndicate, on 10/31/2009, -1/+6ebay 59.99 w/box
- crossmr, on 10/31/2009, -1/+5the power of bury...
check out this bury and then go hang yourself. - ShingoEX, on 10/31/2009, -1/+5I pray you're a troll. I refuse to believe anyone in my species is this dense.
- RedHawk911, on 10/31/2009, -1/+5How did you download the demo?
- WickedJT, on 10/31/2009, -3/+6Well at least the box looks cool.
- Cheesepuffly, on 10/31/2009, -1/+4Sorry, but it is true...
Try becoming a dog. - 2Bnor2B, on 10/31/2009, -1/+4I am more interested in the God of War Collection package, ETA Nov 17th
http://www.joystiq.com/tag/god-of-war-collection
I never played the GOW series and wold like to start from the first. Although I could get them used, having a remastered edition on one disk is very appealing,
. - GravyDavy, on 11/01/2009, -0/+3Well, you pay $60 for a new game, then a month later they're releasing downloadable content for it for $10-$15 a pop. Download 3-4 expansions and you have around $100 invested into a game. Game developers are making millions off of the public first off through initial sales of the game, and then secondly, through downloads for the same game. Call of Duty, GTA, Fallout, Gears of War, etc. The list goes on and on. You name a current gen game, more than likely there is some form of downloadable content for it that will cost you. And the fact is, people WILL spend the money to get it, there is no question about it.
- JudgeMonkey, on 10/31/2009, -0/+3Well, not the case for 3, but you CAN (or will be able to soon, anyway) buy one and two on one disk.
- yocouchdigga, on 10/31/2009, -1/+4Derp: http://www.thinkdigit.com/Gaming/God-of-War-III-de ...
- ShingoEX, on 10/31/2009, -1/+4Why even make a demo for them alone? It's supposed to be a type of advertising to people who may be potential buyers. Make it available to everyone.
- Ajajadude, on 10/31/2009, -1/+4Except for 2 CDs worth of music, a movie and a few extra perks. Sounds like a little more than an extra $40. It's worth it to anyone who really likes the series.
- jagenigma, on 10/31/2009, -1/+4DO WANT!!!!
- fms45, on 10/31/2009, -0/+3I recieved SONY coupon via email today
- inactive, on 10/31/2009, -1/+4Eh stop whining people. I think it's great that developers are recognizing there is another segment of gamers who like to buy extra stuff much like movie buffs who go for DVD's with tons of extras.
Personally I think the one company that started this trend was Working Designs with all their tie-ins, slick packaging, soundtracks, cloth maps and other goodies for all their RPG titles, it is a shame they were ahead of their time and back then was a really niche thing to do instead of mainstream nowadays. - Runningflame570, on 11/01/2009, -1/+3This is actually a pretty good deal. If you look up the prices for videogame soundtracks, they tend to be anywhere from $10-30 (for some of the rarer/more sought after ones) so even assuming they would all be on the low end, you're just about making up the difference there.
Add on the documentary and the exclusive area (which I dislike on philosophical grounds, but ehh) and it's well worthwhile for big fans of the franchise.
Still, the company that can replace Working Designs for attention to detail and included extras does not yet exist. RIP guys. :( - Surkit, on 10/31/2009, -1/+3I gotta say I bought the Halo3 Legendary Edition, and now that spartan helmet just sits at the top of my closet. I love Halo, and I love that Helmet (I did pay 130$ for it), but It's highly impractical. Unless you already have the space made out just for this box, please think twice before buying it.
- danwallace, on 11/01/2009, -0/+2"Fail sauce extreme."
Right there THAT is why I don't play on Xbox Live. - Runningflame570, on 11/01/2009, -1/+3Good music is good music is good music, wherever it comes from. The Castlevania Symphony of the Night soundtrack for instance used to be about $30, which isn't cheap but it cost that much because it wasn't all that easy to find and people LOVED it (for good reason and I still do).
Music in videogames is meant to inspire excitement and emotion, to heighten the highs and drop the lows even further. The best games do this very well and while I personally wouldn't put God of War that far up the list where music is concerned, others, particularly big fans of it might.
This sort of special addition is always for them, because only a hardcore fan will pay that kind of money no matter what all it comes with. It's a good deal for them. - danwallace, on 11/01/2009, -1/+3But all it comes with is the game and a bunch of crap you will never look twice at. Does anyone actually sit around listening to videogame soundtracks or watching documentaries on the making of a game?
- Briones07, on 10/31/2009, -1/+3So an extra $40 for the box and art book. Not entire rape, but most of the other stuff that adds "value" to the pack is entirely digital on day one, so it is not costing them anything extra to produce, and it's ***** that should be on every disc already--at least the combat arena.
Seriously, day one DLC has gotta stop, unless it's free like The Joker's in Arkham Asylum - mattyboy555, on 10/31/2009, -2/+3It would have been better if they had done what Metroid prime done, and release all games on one disk
- danwallace, on 11/01/2009, -1/+2Great. Sure. That's all well and good while it's IN THE GAME, but what sort of person would actually go around listening to that music out of context? I might have thought the music in The Dark Knight was great, but I certainly wouldn't go around listening to it out of the movie.
I dunno, it just seems weird to me. - danwallace, on 11/01/2009, -2/+3Microsoft uses the same tricky strategy with the 360. They sell you a barebones system and then make extra money from you because you need to buy all of these extra peripherals to get the functionality that you need to use it properly. If Sony were smarter they would have included less features in the PS3 and made people shell out extra cash to get them.
Your average consumer is an idiot. He'll go into Best Buy, look at the price tag on the PS3 and the one on the 360 and then buy the cheaper one. People rarely take the time to do any research. - Null242, on 11/21/2009, -0/+1Its not that bad of a deal since games are normally 60 bucks new. Plus you get that pretty cool looking box and an art book.
Its not terrible. - 0olong, on 10/31/2009, -2/+3Built by the fans and for the fans of the God of War franchise, the God of War III Pandora's Box Collector’s Edition features exclusive digital content and collectible content.:
Exclusive Collectibles

That's what you get when you buy it, so it's not just a game and an art book. - inactive, on 10/31/2009, -1/+2"so it is not costing them anything extra to produce"
Yeah other than hiring a video production house to shoot and edit the documentary, royalties to a rock band to record an album, and the orchestra that did the score. - Cheesepuffly, on 10/31/2009, -1/+2All the better to keep your magazines in.
