Well there's your problem!- sexybobo, on 05/05/2008, -5/+3brilliant trolling
- sleeknerve, on 05/05/2008, -6/+3Because the Xbox360 has not been known to break at all. In fact i heard that it has had only 1 broken system. EVER, and that was only because he put it in a Microwave. In fact, the superior durability of the 360 hardware has really allowed everyone to never have to get a new 360 because their first one never breaks.
/ssssssss - Jambi, on 05/05/2008, -2/+3They both suck. Buy a Wii.
- D14BL0, on 05/05/2008, -11/+47Why is this news? That's what happens when something breaks. It costs money to fix. Get over it.
- PetroSan, on 05/05/2008, -1/+2haha oh man. I agree with the sentiment, and personally have a 360 and believe the hardware problems are ridiculous, but i wish 360 owners would stop bitching so much about things other than RROD fixes costing them money. Everything is a rip off these days...
- TobiasParker, on 05/05/2008, -8/+5Wow...if this was an XBOX 360 this would read:
"Why is this news? Micro$oft ***** over it's customers with ***** hardware/software and then expects them to pay to fix it. What do you expect?" - linuxrocks2007, on 05/05/2008, -2/+5I'm not saying Nintendo is the perfect company, but damn their customer service kicks ass!
- D14BL0, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1I'll have to agree. When Brawl busted my Wii, Nintendo replaced the entire console free of charge (albeit it DID take two times sending it back and forth).
I don't think Rockstar can do this, though, because they don't work directly for either Sony or Microsoft, so they have to go through all the channels for repairs.
- D14BL0, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1I'll have to agree. When Brawl busted my Wii, Nintendo replaced the entire console free of charge (albeit it DID take two times sending it back and forth).
- shirosamurai, on 05/05/2008, -1/+2There's something seriously wrong with that statement. If this was Microsoft charging $150.00 to fix a problem, everyone around here would be ***** bricks.
- Stunn, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1It just sucks to have to pay for something that broke when it wasn't the user's fault. The PS3 is made to play games and shouldn't lock up after trying to play one.
I have GTA IV for the PS3 and I guess I'm lucky that I don't have any problems with it.- D14BL0, on 05/05/2008, -2/+1Of course it sucks, but that's the risk you take when you buy anything. If you buy a car and it runs out of gas, guess who's responsibility it is to fill it back up!
- louiedog, on 05/05/2008, -0/+3Terrible analogy. It might work if he was pissed that his PS3 stopped working when he unplugged it. It's more like if you put gas in your car and it ate through the fuel line. That's not what is supposed to happen through normal usage.

- sleeknerve, on 05/05/2008, -1/+4Fanboyism blinds you from seeing the world clearly. There is no right answer for anyone. Different consoles suit different people.
- bannonto, on 05/05/2008, -3/+4Except all reviews say the ps3 version is a lot better than 360 version. Both are having install problems. This seems to be a software problem, not a platform problem.
- plr4ever, on 05/05/2008, -0/+2RROD: throw 360 in trash
- gfxluvr, on 05/05/2008, -10/+5Could have to do that you don't have respect for your games, and just laying them around?
- sjaxso, on 05/05/2008, -1/+3OK, I've read this six times and still can't make head nor tail of it. Did you mean to comment on Youtube?
- Rogee, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1I agree, he has his discs out of their cases... he probably got dust on the drive lens or something.
- timusca, on 05/05/2008, -5/+19I haven't watched the video, but I don't need to... I doubt a video game "broke" his PS3. And if it did? Stuff breaks... of course it costs money to fix. What's the problem here? These sensationalist headlines always make the writer out to be a victim of The Man.
- Wabem, on 05/05/2008, -5/+4Mine Works. :)
- Selenica, on 05/05/2008, -12/+3Buy a 360. Comes with a 3 year warranty that covers this kind of thing. :-)
- Drag0nmyballs, on 05/05/2008, -1/+9I thought the three year warranty was just for the red ring, 1 year for everthing else

Good, you'll need it... considering XBoxes have an 85% failure rate!- shirosamurai, on 05/05/2008, -1/+3So it's 85% now, eh. Source?
- sleeknerve, on 05/05/2008, -1/+5Wow, it is actually 1 year warranty for this type of thing. Do your research kid

- AlexanderZero, on 05/05/2008, -5/+8I'm kind of afraid of buying GTA IV at this point. For the Xbox 360 OR the ps3...
- hypodan, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1I agree, I'll wait for the patch for both systems, it should be safe soon.
- yensed, on 05/05/2008, -0/+3Of course the people who are having issues will be the ones making noise. I think very few people are actually having issues... But its your loss.
- AlexanderZero, on 05/05/2008, -0/+2Well, I still intend to buy it. I just hope they patch it before I get the money. :P
- linuxrocks2007, on 05/05/2008, -10/+1You should have labeled NSFW because of the vulgar language. My nephew is traumatized for life now :( .

- gamemaster357, on 05/05/2008, -5/+14360 freezes on GTA4 also, not just a sony problem, fanboys
- TobiasParker, on 05/05/2008, -4/+1ive played over 20 hours and had one freeze, which was cured by clearing my Cache. I also have had the same 360 for over 2 years with no problems.
- bdawg123, on 05/05/2008, -2/+1Well that settles it then. There are no problems with GTA4 or the 360.

- yensed, on 05/05/2008, -0/+3I had to digg you down in order to block you. :-(
- Lynxplus, on 05/05/2008, -9/+3you ps3 lovers should be enjoying gta before your console breaks down, or you can keep digging down the truth!
- aimhelix, on 05/05/2008, -2/+11How do we know it was GTA4 that broke the system?
- RespectableGuy, on 05/05/2008, -8/+5$599 US dollars
- Brainmodder, on 05/05/2008, -0/+3RIDGE RACER!
HIT IT'S WEAK POINT FOR MASSIVE DAMAGE! - sleeknerve, on 05/05/2008, -1/+3its actually 400 now, but go ahead and convince yourself that a PS3 is so expensive that its an incredibly bad deal. hte PS3 comunity doesnt need stupid people like you in it anyhow

- Stuart750, on 05/05/2008, -1/+8First of all, I'd like to know the conditions that the PS3 broke...
Try restarting the PS3, it didn't look like he tried that at all...
And if it truly did break his PS3, I think Rockstar (not that I dislike them, quite the opposite) should reimburse the owner of the broken Playstation...- a23y1, on 05/05/2008, -0/+6Sounds like a whiner just trying to get a free PS3
- SillyRabbits, on 05/05/2008, -1/+7Anyone with a quick summary? I didn't feel like sitting through 6 and a half minutes listening to his annoying voice...(I quit watching after about 20 seconds)
- elvenseven, on 05/05/2008, -3/+3Some are dying for bad news from sony.
- DraggingTheLake, on 05/05/2008, -0/+11It collapsed under the awesome of GTAIV.... much like my social life.
- charlestoN1, on 05/05/2008, -0/+4***** happens
- cambob76, on 05/05/2008, -0/+9It doesn't seem likely at all for a game to break a piece of hardware. My copy of GTAIV froze my PS3, but I just rebooted it like a normal person.
- vwvan, on 05/05/2008, -1/+2Sony has a fairly good repair program and they have saved me loads of money on laptop and stereo repair.. I was mad at them before I discovered their one-stop web site and FAST turnaround. At least you know what the price for the repair will be. You could fix it yourself, but you might end up spending more than $150. They are much better than some of the local shops where you never really know what the cost will be.
- the1maxim, on 05/05/2008, -3/+3*****.....it's physically impossible for software to break hardware (barring firmware/bios updates.) Idiot!
- SillyRabbits, on 05/05/2008, -2/+3If you really believe that, then you are the one that's actually the idiot. You should refrain from commenting on things you don't know something about.
- Berzerker7, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1He's actually correct, so maybe think about what you write before you hit the "Submit Comment" button next time, *****.
- SillyRabbits, on 05/05/2008, -1/+1Well, then you must not have much experience writing software that interfaces with hardware - bad software breaks hardware all the time. It's just that you shouldn't be seeing it on consumer level systems like a PS3. Also, I'm not the A-hole, it's the original poster that started off by calling somebody an idiot. I thought it was only fair to return the favor.
- Berzerker7, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1He's actually correct, so maybe think about what you write before you hit the "Submit Comment" button next time, *****.
- D14BL0, on 05/05/2008, -1/+2Not really. Back in the day there was an old virus that would override your HDD's onboard software and set it to spin at the maximum it physically could, sucking away power from other components. It would physically destroy your hard drive.
It's still possible to do this. While this isn't the case with the GTA IV issues, it CAN be done.- Berzerker7, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1So you wipe the entire thing completely and start over. Unless you physically take it and crack a platter or something else in the hard drive, you cannot destroy it.
- SillyRabbits, on 05/05/2008, -1/+1Wow you really don't understand hardware, do you? Do you suppose that bearing speed ratings are there just for fun? Do the drive power handling circuits for motor control have infinite current handling capability? And that's just for starters...
- Berzerker7, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1So you wipe the entire thing completely and start over. Unless you physically take it and crack a platter or something else in the hard drive, you cannot destroy it.
- cambob76, on 05/05/2008, -0/+3It looks like something(we never really see) corrupted the OS. Save data and reformat. Done.
- empiric, on 05/05/2008, -0/+3Extremely unlikely, anyway. Back in the Commodore PET days you could set the monitor refresh rate so fast though software it'd destroy the monitor. Theoretically possible with massive misconfiguration of the X Window Manager, as well. Only way I could imagine it happening in this case is if somehow GTA was far more demanding of the video chips than all other games, -and- Sony didn't test their hardware for that utilization. Very, very unlikely.
I don't see where this video gives any evidence of GTA causing it rather than just general could-happen-any-time PS3 hardware failure, anyway.
- SillyRabbits, on 05/05/2008, -2/+3If you really believe that, then you are the one that's actually the idiot. You should refrain from commenting on things you don't know something about.
- dOOBiEx213, on 05/05/2008, -5/+1consoles ftl
- Brainmodder, on 05/05/2008, -6/+1Wow GTA4 is too good for the PS3 that it broke it. Amazing.
- nerd64, on 05/05/2008, -1/+7Why is he surprised that Sony is having him pay for the repairs? It's not their game that broke his system.
- rdlain, on 05/05/2008, -0/+0His complaint is about Rockstar, not Sony.
- digitallysick, on 05/05/2008, -0/+5It did that to everyones , its not broke, if he would just delete the GTA install data and leave the saved game data, then re install, and log out of the PSN network, it would work without issue. , Worst he could do is back up his data to a jump drive, and format the ps3 harddrive
- Culyt, on 05/05/2008, -2/+4If its a software error then formatting the system should fix it.
If its hardware then I don't think GTA4 is to blame, software should never be able to break hardware (other than a few rare exceptions like that IBM hdd that could be forced to overspin or that intel processor that you could blow up, also some processors with a self destruct function for military use) - Tralobyte, on 05/05/2008, -3/+4What kind of sdk lets game code break the console?
- bluscale, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1PC's spoil developers with near infinite amounts of RAM as opposed to consoles.
- Berzerker7, on 05/05/2008, -0/+4None, that's why this is complete *****.
- cbodall, on 05/05/2008, -6/+4and yet somehow my Wii has never had a problem.......
- bluscale, on 05/05/2008, -0/+3Only problem is the ***** graphics and horrible third party support.
- yellowfish04, on 05/05/2008, -0/+3and yet, somehow, your Wii doesn't have GTA4....
- ForTheSteel, on 05/05/2008, -1/+2I have heard of this, all he has to do is go to his blu ray settings and turn on BD Live. everything will work.
its is also obvious that he hasn't tried any of the recommended fixes such as turning off the information bar.- bluscale, on 05/05/2008, -1/+1Thanks for the informative post.
- igob8a, on 05/05/2008, -7/+2sony and its crappy customer service team strike again.
- Danoz, on 05/05/2008, -4/+3I haven't had GTA4 freeze on my 360 yet, and i've spent 12+ hours on it. Also, i doubt that the game would brick his PS3, i think he was probably hard resetting it way too much trying to get the game to work and has ended up corrupting something.
- bluscale, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1Way off buddy, word on the internets say its a ram overload issue. I doubt that since the video shows that only the GTA4 disc is readable.
- bluscale, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1Way off buddy, word on the internets say its a ram overload issue. I doubt that since the video shows that only the GTA4 disc is readable.
- Trammel, on 05/05/2008, -0/+7Buried because after having to listen to this kid whine and looking at his other videos everybody should realize he is a gigantic *****.
- ruest, on 05/05/2008, -0/+9SO ***** WHAT
- Startemus, on 05/05/2008, -1/+3Clearly if you can afford a PS3 and that TV the $150 shouldn't be much of a problem. Still sucks though.
- yensed, on 05/05/2008, -1/+3Forget the GTA4 part of this. His PS3 broke and his warranty has expired. That sucks for him.......... Whats left to say?
- bluscale, on 05/05/2008, -2/+1That you're an idiot.
- bluscale, on 05/05/2008, -0/+3This is a legit issue. It's been reported at my store as well. The video makes me wonder if GTA4 sends the PS3 into a 'locked' mode. I'm guessing this issue may actually affect the bios or something that cannot be corrected by reformatting the hard drive. Therefore, I wouldn't worry about it much, you can probably open up your PS3 and remove the onboard battery which would reset all non-volatile memory, but Sony will probably release a fix in a week or so. You can blame Sony for allowing an error to survive a reboot but since I have both consoles, I can survive one being out of commission for a few days. Sony will look into the issue asap. Don't freak out guys.
- micflo, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1I work customer service for best buy and in the past 3 days i have seen more of the PS3 versions be exchanged. Its kind of a shame that both consoles are having trouble running GTA IV.
- suldar, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1I found this information about the error. Sounds like you can avoid it by having a stable Internet connection and following proper procedures while doing software/firmware upgrades. I don't have a PS3 yet but am considering it.
"The error code is actually one of two things, a) a faulty sector on the internal hard drive, or b) a faulty installation of software/firmware, both iterations actually coincide with each other."
http://www.gamerevolver.com/article-114-PS3-Error- ... - DarkReign16, on 05/05/2008, -0/+2It's not really Sony's problem, at all. That would be like getting pissed at nvidia for a PC game that breaks your video card (and all video cards) (for who knows what reason, it's a hypothetical). It would be the game makers problem, not nvidia's....
- fluffyturtle, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1Why are people digging this down? People should be made aware of issues like this. Instead of educating you want to bury what is going on? This makes no sense.
At any rate, there are quite a few issues pertaining to GTA4. Having a problem loading your game saves? Unplug the network cable. I have seen it on 3 different playstation 3's already, not sure what is causing it exactly but they load fine once the network is pulled. - yellowfish04, on 05/05/2008, -1/+1lol, check out this one guy's "solution" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TpOdw1q8thk&feature ...
- fluffyturtle, on 05/05/2008, -0/+2Why is his "solution" funny? It actually works for some of the freezing issues.
- AngeloM3, on 05/06/2008, -0/+1sucks... if it makes everyone feel better...
Its so much fun playing GTA4 on my 360 that doesn't freeze and has never had a RRoD. XD
