- hokeywebb22, on 05/07/2008, -1/+27Because with a couple of years it could not even compete with the greatness that will be Duke Nukem Forever.
- chocobomog, on 05/07/2008, -3/+25just remember, "check spelling" is only a click away
- etgoboom, on 05/07/2008, -4/+21Who honestly didn't expect this as soon as they said Resistance is their competition for Gears2 this year
- volacide, on 05/07/2008, -8/+24Something about Killzone 2 just looks awesome and I think it mostly has to do with the way the game seems to move. Now I've played too many FPS to keep track of, including the original terrible Killzone but Killzone 2 just looks more fluid or something compared to most other FPS.
I like the way that the gun bobs in killzone and the way that when you go into the aiming mode the scope doesn't just sit there completely tight to your person like in most games. It bobs and recoils with a very realistic and stylized look. Everything about Killzone 2 looks stylized. The visuals go through many different layers of post processing in order to achieve this very drab but still somehow beautiful look to the game. The purples, oranges, and yellows all look really awesome when they splash across the screen.
I'm excited for Killzone 2. I don't think its going to be this end all be all game but I do think it has the potential to. Killzone 1 was terrible, indeed, but there's no reason that Killzone 2 has to be, I mean Killzone 2 already looks worlds better than the original.
Here's some brand new gameplay footage to sink your teeth into: http://www.gamersyde.com/stream_7077_en.html
Looks fantastic and it's still pre-alpha. - piper999, on 05/07/2008, -4/+20Why not delay it another couple of years then to make sure it the greatest video game ever?
- piper999, on 05/07/2008, -3/+15Delay announcement due in 5...4...3...2...
- Dreamscar, on 05/07/2008, -9/+21It's probably a good thing it's being held off. Lets not forget that Killzone 1 was extremely...average. An extra 4 or 5 months can do a world of good
- saisumimen, on 05/07/2008, -1/+9You mean ANOTHER delay announcement...
- Mr_Lyle, on 05/07/2008, -0/+6I have to say, I don't see Resistance 2 really competing with Gear 2. Gears just became a huge hit and has a massive fan base. Clans, tournaments and such. Resistance is a great game but those 2 franchises aren't on the same level. Not even close. If Gears 2 and Resistance 2 came out on the same day, the difference in sales would be quite significant. It'll have nothing to do with which game is better either, I'm talking solely based on existing fan bases for both games.
I personally think Sony made a mistake declaring Resistance 2 as their main competition for Gears 2. They should have never said it. It just paints a target on the game's back and raises expectations to a level the game night not be able to live up to. If Resistance 2 ends up being an amazing game and establishes itself as a franchise game for the PS3, it should do it on it's own merits. Right now when someone asks 'what's a franchise game on the PS3?' Your first answer wouldn't be Resistance...Probably not even your 2nd or 3rd. - krische, on 05/07/2008, -7/+13Killzone getting bumped back doesn't bother me as much. But they damn well better not push back LittleBigPlanet.
- jacksons98, on 05/07/2008, -5/+11If it means a better game I'm okay waiting. Just like GTAIV everyone was pissed about the delay and threw blame left and right, then see what R* did with the extra time. Sometimes delays are a good thing.
- estvir, on 05/07/2008, -1/+7Buggy? I don't remember it being buggy, I just remember it being rather bland and generic -- I bought it, hell, I pre-ordered it and I played it till the end and enjoyed it but it was painfully average.
- FriedTurkey, on 05/07/2008, -0/+6I actually spent a good 20 hours finishing that game. The problem wasn't that it was buggy because it wasn't. It just seemed unfinished. Some levels were awesome but most seemed sparse like they were going to put something there and never got around to it. They should have cut down the levels to the good ones because it was puzzling long. Black was better despite it being a lot shorter. The ending "boss" to Killzone was hilariously bad.
- RedHawk911, on 05/07/2008, -1/+7Well, In the video it says Pre-Alpha code.
- Vash3001, on 05/07/2008, -4/+9this game is more than likely not gonna be very good....the team behind Killzone 2 were the ones who brought us the masterpiece "Shellshock: Nam '67"
- TheWorm, on 05/07/2008, -1/+5I really doubt the story will be a selling point for that game. Aliens attack earth..it's up to a team of elite super soldiers to save the day..haven't seen that a hundred times before..
- FriedTurkey, on 05/07/2008, -1/+4Actually the ammo would respawn at that point.
- loganhid, on 05/07/2008, -5/+8So far it looks amazing. Hope the gameplay and story go well with the game.
- staticneuron, on 05/07/2008, -0/+3lol.... I guess thats why it's his dream.
- ahhell, on 05/07/2008, -0/+3So with the delays they were able to release a bug free game.
Oh wait....isn't there a patch out today? - Cerebral, on 05/07/2008, -3/+6No... none of those titles were as hyped by a lie of a "real in game video". OK mass effect was hyped but still nowhere near as much as this game. I will say that when Halo 3 was pushed back it was reported on and if GoW2 gets pushed back there will be news on that as well.
- JEAH, on 05/07/2008, -1/+4wow, so every delayed game ends up being good??... it might depend on which company is doing the delaying ;)
- estvir, on 05/08/2008, -0/+2Yup, KZ had a lot of potential and was fun in some ways but they just did so many parts with half an effort.
I'd like a Black sequel with prettier graphics and multiplayer. Who doesn't like gun porn? ;) - TheWorm, on 05/07/2008, -4/+6And it paid off since the PS3 has been given the slight performance edge.
- inactive, on 05/08/2008, -0/+2Can't wait ..thats when i will buy a DELAY STATION !!!
- dsmx, on 05/07/2008, -2/+4Lets not forget that there next game killzone liberation was brilliant.
- rsmithrun, on 05/08/2008, -0/+2Killzone 1 single player was too easy and online play was not fun. I hope 2 is better.
- BabyWookie, on 05/07/2008, -0/+2I don't get the hype for LBP. It looks like an over-hyped, glorified XBox Live Arcade/PSN game to me.
- staticneuron, on 05/07/2008, -1/+3Target render in 2006 (didn't start production on game yet). Alpha footage and playable demo in 2007 and at this event. Sounds about right to me.
- kmg90, on 05/07/2008, -3/+5but yet xbox 360 has more popup problems then ps3
its both systems that needed work and they still need work after its release - ImpoliteAndEvil, on 04/06/2009, -0/+2SOCOM for PS3 looks like a first-generation Xbox 360 game. Hell, I'd go so far as to say that Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter looked better.
- krische, on 05/07/2008, -0/+2It looks like a fun simple game to play with your friends.
- Cerebral, on 05/07/2008, -0/+2To me this game is going in the same direction that Killzone went and that is that it is just as good as say COD4 with those little extras to put it (possibly) over the edge. The problem is that a good majority of the people didn't like all the extra movements (your fluidity you speak of) and it made sales suffer. I guess the one thing then that will either make or break this game will be online components(either co-op campaign and/or multiplayer). I think if those are not there or they are done wrong then people will just go back to COD4, Haze or SOCOM. Pushing it back will, IMO only hurt the franchise as they will be competing against some other great games. Some of those I've mentioned but let's be honest, they will be going up against Gears of War 2 (people do have 2 systems) also.
- micflo, on 05/07/2008, -1/+3I'm curious why your being dugg down for speaking the truth. Seriously read a review from most game critics and it was an average game. People who own PS3's are just looking for a fps other than resistance that they claim as exclusive to them. If Killzone 2 is a bust when it gets released some time in the future how bad would this hurt the PS3 in terms of loyalty to customers.
- Bozmanbeyond, on 05/08/2008, -0/+2Whats even more of a joke is that Gran Turismo was supposed to be a launch tittle.
- indiancompanion, on 05/08/2008, -0/+1Insomniac does games every year, they are fast and good at putting games out on time (see resistance 1, and 11 months later ratchet). I trust them to do good
- logicalnoise, on 05/07/2008, -3/+4I played it and it had too many odd choices. For instance you couldn't jump but you could hop over certian barricades because you were supposed to. Then tehre was teh awesome time I found as rocket launcher and had to use the two shells I had only to find out there was a barricade I needed to blow up with it but there were no more rockets left in the level to do it. Juts a poorly balanced game as well.
- rsmithrun, on 05/08/2008, -0/+1SOCOM II, so addicting.
- Dan11023, on 05/07/2008, -0/+1"That would be my dream" anyways, I listen to the insomniac games podcast and they are friendly with many other ps3 developers (EX Naughty Dog). I really think insomniac can step up to the plate here and Guerrilla Games with this tittle... and then maybe in the future guerrilla can help insomniac with a tittle in the future. That would be my dream.
- LimeParrot, on 05/07/2008, -0/+1Oh OK.
- logicalnoise, on 05/07/2008, -6/+7you digg me down all you want people. I'm stating the truth. I'm not knocking the PS3 in any way. It's well known that PS3 takes a bit longer to get results(whether the results are better depends on th developer).
- rsmithrun, on 05/08/2008, -0/+1"The problem is that a good majority of the people didn't like all the extra movements (your fluidity you speak of) and it made sales suffer."
Who would not buy a game because of extra movements? - inactive, on 05/07/2008, -0/+1I never thought Killzone 1 was "terrible", it was above average to me, nothing more. a 7/10, online was enjoyable.
- hairyblue, on 05/07/2008, -0/+1I use to love how the screen swayed when you took a pin from a grenade :)
- mywhitenoise, on 05/07/2008, -1/+2"then see what R* did with the extra time."
I have no idea what Rockstar did with the extra time, because I never played a pre-build of the game, and they never showed any gameplay footage. - Cerebral, on 05/07/2008, -2/+3I thought the popup problems had to do with the inability to install the game to the Hard Drive no?
- The2ndRunner, on 05/07/2008, -2/+3"A delayed game is eventually good, a bad game is bad forever."
- rusty123jimi, on 05/07/2008, -2/+3This does suck...but honestly...I want this game to be PERFECT!!! It's in the pre-alpha stage right now...and it's already looking really good...imagine how it'll look in 9 months! =) Also...this year, Resistance 2, Little Big Planet, and MGS4 are coming out...sooo...I'm pretty sure I'll be plenty occupied by the time Killzone 2 and GT5 come out next year! =)
- hairyblue, on 05/07/2008, -0/+1wtf? this has no killzone's or helgast, something tells me your not right treeliu...
- Cerebral, on 05/09/2008, -0/+1Believe it or not but there are people out there that enjoy FPS games but cannot play them for extended periods of time because it makes them feel sick. My buddy is one of those people and he can't play a FPS for more than about 10 minutes. When he played that game he never played it because the camera movements when you reloaded and ran were too much for him.
Not only that but (and not that I ever listen to them) when another friend of mine went to pick up a used copy the dude at the Gamestop specifically mentioned these fluid motions to him. It doesn't bother me or my one buddy but obviously there must be some concern if they were bringing it up to someone who was going to purchase a used game from Gamestop. My understanding was that people were returning the games because of this.
I'm only going by what I experienced. It doesn't bother me and to me the roadie run in GoW is way worse than anything in Killzone and even that doesn't bother me. Hell I usually tap my right analog so that it bounces the camera up higher so I can get more of a straight on view rather than the close and kind of facing down view that it always pans to. -
