- DFENS, on 12/21/2007, -52/+12I'd like to welcome you all to the world of mods! It's obvious it's really new to you, so here is how it works!
Unreal Tournament 3 can use all the maps made for the PC - the 'first PS3 Unreal Map' is not only ludicrous to claim, but it shows an incredible amount of unwarranted self importance.
Unreal Tournament has these things called Forums. You go there, on Epic's boards, and there is all kindsa stuff to download! Maps, mods, etc.
When you advertise a mod, don't claim it's the only one out there. You look like an *****.
Honestly, your whole statement just sounds dumb.- Karahna, on 12/21/2007, -1/+19Yeah, but if you read the forums you would realize that the tools to convert the Mods are not out yet!
- BinaryDelt, on 12/21/2007, -8/+5My sarcasm detector 'sploded.
- triplehelix, on 12/21/2007, -3/+23and here we witness the pretentious attitude of some PC gamers that gives them all a bad name.
- Dracusis, on 12/21/2007, -6/+9Oooh... Someone's got their panties in a bunch.
Mummy not getting you a PS3 for Christmas?- Christbait, on 12/21/2007, -6/+3Why would you want a weak ass PS3 when you can have a PC that can run this game at 60FPS?
- CReyes4182, on 12/31/2007, -0/+1because most people don't have 2-3 grand lying around to get a pc that will run it good.
- Christbait, on 12/21/2007, -6/+3Why would you want a weak ass PS3 when you can have a PC that can run this game at 60FPS?
- lust, on 12/21/2007, -12/+2How do I bury a dumbass comment?
- novaj666, on 12/21/2007, -2/+6sir i hear you like the taste of balls
- Christbait, on 12/21/2007, -1/+1YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG!
- charlescheese, on 12/21/2007, -2/+8Apparently you're party of the PC "DFENS" force. Mods on consoles is a new thing. If that's a hard concept for you little PC brain to handle, then I pity you. This is a big deal because this hasn't happened before on consoles.
- Christbait, on 12/21/2007, -4/+2He may sound like an *****, he may be getting buried. But oh my god, is he right on the money.
- bdawg123, on 12/21/2007, -1/+2And you're right on his knob, eh kitten?
- bdawg123, on 12/21/2007, -1/+2And you're right on his knob, eh kitten?
- systemflaw, on 12/21/2007, -44/+7The negative aspect of the cost of the PS3 Greatly outweighs the benefits of it. no matter how good this game idea is, it will never reach it's full potential
- zeromous, on 12/21/2007, -3/+21Ps3 is cheaper if you play online. open standards (except bluray). But 360 doesn't need to worry about that :)
- lacronicus, on 12/21/2007, -12/+2what does the 360 have to do with this? Online is free on the PC, and it's about as open-standard as you can get. And it's where you'll find the best version of UT3.
- bCabulon, on 12/21/2007, -2/+12Decent PCs also cost more.
- lacronicus, on 12/21/2007, -14/+5Most people already have a decent PC for regular use, and the upgrade such a PC would need for gaming would only cost about 250-300 dollars.
- rezist, on 12/21/2007, -6/+3so there's no difference
- zeromous, on 12/21/2007, -1/+7dont think that anyone is debating this. I was merely comparing cost to 360. PC is very competitive as well, but the last few DRMd PC games have left a sour taste in my mouth personally. THere is something to be said for PC as well as for consoles...especially quiet ones with USB/Mouse/Media Center support and no fuss HD in my living room that plays most of the best games with no real upgrade requirements for 4-5 years. Plenty of juice to squeeze out of a dedicated gaming rig.
- CReyes4182, on 12/31/2007, -0/+1OMG are my specs good enough?... do I have enough hard drive space?.. wtf missing dll?!... oh I spent 2 grand on this computer 2 years ago and now it won't play this game.. plop down 300 more.. ***** YOU
- lacronicus, on 12/21/2007, -12/+2what does the 360 have to do with this? Online is free on the PC, and it's about as open-standard as you can get. And it's where you'll find the best version of UT3.
- skidme, on 12/21/2007, -4/+26Listen, it's not our fault you're poor. Get a job. Stop relying on birthday money for purchasing power.
- triplehelix, on 12/21/2007, -1/+15exactly how much more is the ps3? the price of one years scrip to be able to play online with the 360 you say? you must consider the cost of live a large negative cost as well eh?
- systemflaw, on 12/21/2007, -7/+2the cost of Xbox live is a negative, but i would hardly call $50 a year a "large negative"
playstation home is vastly superior, and it is free, why can't the Xbox 360 offer Xbox live for free? if they did they would have one more customer.- maci01, on 12/21/2007, -1/+8So you can't afford a "small negative" is what you're saying?
- bdorry, on 12/21/2007, -6/+3If by superior you mean lagging behind in almost every aspect, then sure.
- Tahiri, on 12/21/2007, -1/+6I find the cost difference between a PS3 and a 360, a small negative.
PS3 is a much more open system with more functionality.
Bluray alone makes the difference worth it. That and being nigh silent and no RRoD push it over the top.
- systemflaw, on 12/21/2007, -7/+2the cost of Xbox live is a negative, but i would hardly call $50 a year a "large negative"
- dansmeek, on 12/21/2007, -3/+25xbox360 + wireless network adapter + hd-dvd player = a lot more than the ps3
xbox360 + wireless network adapter = still more than the ps3- Mtown, on 12/21/2007, -2/+15heck a years worth of XBL puts it about the same price as the PS3
- CReyes4182, on 12/31/2007, -0/+1360 premium + hd-dvd + wifi adapter + xbox live for the life of the system(oh... 5 years)+xbox wireless headset(you can use your cellphones bt headset with ps3) + the aggravation of having to listen to whiny, racist, homophobic, 12 year olds made me get a ps3. If you add all that crap up (which you get with the ps3 out of the box ( - the 12 year olds )) its like 750+. ***** that.
- lacronicus, on 12/21/2007, -14/+1Because of course the only alternative to the ps3 is the 360...
/sarcasm- TheWorm, on 12/21/2007, -1/+12How is it not? We're talking about consoles, and the only other console is the Wii which just isn't comparable.
- lacronicus, on 12/21/2007, -12/+2PC! You know, the OTHER system to have UT3? Where did this become console only?
- zeromous, on 12/21/2007, -0/+10Fact: PC games don't come near console game sales. UT3 is one of the few games that has a shot at outselling the console version (non port/stripped). Face it, PC is a unique open platform that caters to preferences of some gamers and has become less important over the years due to copy protection issues, bloated OSes, and well, the grass being greener on the other side for many of the larger publishers.
The pendulum could swing back at any time, but I submit the general public likes the idea of only upgrading every 4-5 years and being able to play the latest games, and to have a simple quiet media center hooked up to the boob tube, not email and a word processor too. Until then its fairly irrelevant since we're talking about the start of an potentially expansive console modding scene for the first time. Look out PC, your biggest strength is about to be equalized. - TheWorm, on 12/21/2007, -0/+7They are different markets. The only direct competitor to the PS3 is the 360, and vice-versa.
- staticneuron, on 12/21/2007, -0/+4Honestly the only title I am missing from the PC world is Crysis. But then again I recievd so many games for my console I haven't finished them all. When I do a comparison, it just makes more sense to own a console. Consoles have more genres and more titles that cover all my gaming need.
- CReyes4182, on 12/31/2007, -0/+1The PC gamer is a dying breed. Unfortunately high def console gaming might as well go out the window too. Due to the success of the wii. Its a junk system (I own one) but hey it sells. And at the end of the day thats all companies care about. Even though UT3 didn't really sell much on the ps3.. it sold allot better then the PC version. Thats enough proof right there. If they made a version for the wii and it looked like quake arena on the dream cast it would probably sell a million more copies.
- zeromous, on 12/21/2007, -0/+10Fact: PC games don't come near console game sales. UT3 is one of the few games that has a shot at outselling the console version (non port/stripped). - charlescheese, on 12/21/2007, -3/+14Wait, so the $400 PS3, which graphically rivals anything outside of Crysis on PC, is too expensive? Honestly, it costs a lot more to get a pc that can run UT3 than it does to buy a PS3. Oh yeah, and my PS3 is the best media center on the planet as well as the most powerful gaming platform. Is that worth $400? Considering I use it every single day, yes it is.
- Christbait, on 12/21/2007, -3/+2It most certainly will not, most PS3 users are too imbecilic to use a modding kit, so they'll be scrounging from the PC mod community no less.
- bdawg123, on 12/21/2007, -2/+2Your pathetic jealousy of the PS3 is just sad. Give up your tired rants already and play with your 360. It must be getting dusty with all the time you spend on the PS3 forums.
- zeromous, on 12/21/2007, -3/+21Ps3 is cheaper if you play online. open standards (except bluray). But 360 doesn't need to worry about that :)
- truspect0r, on 12/21/2007, -45/+7I think I'll wait for the supperior x-Box version. I'm sure some l33t hacker will hack teh UT3 to have mods on it.
- BinaryDelt, on 12/21/2007, -3/+21"supperior x-Box". Just wow.
- triplehelix, on 12/21/2007, -3/+13dude, at least the other truespector parody mixed it up. your just a douche.
- truspect0r, on 12/21/2007, -9/+2No YOU'RE a douche.
- Christbait, on 12/21/2007, -4/+3Epic are more optimistic about modding for the 360 but I'm not holding my breath... Xbox is sealed up like fort knox, I mean, it's Microsoft for Chrissakes, which is a good thing for security, bad thing for freedom.
- bdawg123, on 12/21/2007, -1/+2Optimistic about modding on the 360? Since when? Huff some more glue.
- MasterPlayer, on 12/21/2007, -5/+78Shouldn't the title read "First Ever user created PS3 Unreal Tournament 3 Map"?
- Tahiri, on 12/21/2007, -1/+13No, it should read "First ever user created map for any console"
- dangwoot, on 12/21/2007, -17/+8^ i dunno what the hell your smokin the ps3 will do just fine give it time the ps2 did this when it came out as well.
- systemflaw, on 12/21/2007, -10/+2drug innuendo... almost made me laugh, but your immaturity abruptly halted it.
- iRoy, on 12/21/2007, -2/+6Perfect timing, I just got done with finals today.
Too tired to go online now though, I'll probably be playing all weekend though, PSN: iRoy
Pretty nice Playstation Store update today too. Free DLC all round!- onlyclave, on 12/21/2007, -2/+2My PSN name is OnlyClave. Let's play some CTF in Hydrosis, speed freak, low grav and Instagib mutators turned on.
- Bartboy919, on 12/21/2007, -3/+15Can I has Pics?
- tidu, on 12/21/2007, -1/+6In all honesty the maps being made now for UT3 look pretty crappy since the game just came out, and the real maps are being worked on and tweaked. Once we get through the few months of cube maps with a light they'll start getting good.
Or this map is amazing, what the hell do i know- tidu, on 12/21/2007, -1/+4i take that back, partly
http://www.beyondunreal.com/
it's the first news story as of now. And it's a pretty good-looking map. But what I said applies for 50-60% of the maps being made now.. :
- tidu, on 12/21/2007, -1/+4i take that back, partly
- zephc, on 12/21/2007, -1/+6Negative, mammal. There shall be no pictures for ye.

Thats the thread in which DM-Shrine is released. Pics be there. It looks allright. I just played a bot match in the pc version. It's kind of an arena style map in an crumbling shrine builting with no roof. Concentric pathways on the outside with some jump pads which will take you up to the top ledges where you can spam into the central shrine area. It's a good map but don't use it as a way to guage the quality of ut map makers. Go to epic games forums and check out CTF-Grendelkeep. A remake of a popular ctf map that was from the last ut generation. I wouldn't be surprised if they released that on PS3 next.
- tidu, on 12/21/2007, -1/+6In all honesty the maps being made now for UT3 look pretty crappy since the game just came out, and the real maps are being worked on and tweaked. Once we get through the few months of cube maps with a light they'll start getting good.
- AzureRise, on 12/21/2007, -7/+2This is awesome, can't wait to make some maps in UnrealEd 4 and play them on my PC. And now this makes me want to get the PS3 version too.
- killdashnine, on 12/21/2007, -4/+22Cool! So now let's get some cross-platform PS3 vs PC action going on!
- diggrim, on 12/21/2007, -0/+6serious, Epic says PS3 users won't want to play PC users...but everyone I know wants to
- Biznarie, on 12/21/2007, -1/+5Same, I cant see the downside really as long as they do it right (no KB/M vs Controllers) its like that on ps3 already so i don't see a problem. Plus theres practically nobody playing UT3 on PC, which is a total bummer :(
- Po0py, on 12/21/2007, -1/+4 Are PS3 gamers anything like 360 gamers once they get their mic's on? As a pc gamer I can attest we are a mature lot and won't take kindly to being callled a ni**erjew too often.
- diggrim, on 12/21/2007, -0/+6serious, Epic says PS3 users won't want to play PC users...but everyone I know wants to
- MadLeper, on 12/21/2007, -2/+14Isn't there one model of PS3 without a flash card reader built in ? Is it possible to attach a usb flash card reader and use that instead ?
- triplehelix, on 12/21/2007, -1/+18yes. the ps3 uses the regular ol USB port, so you can attach any usb device to it, like a USB drive for instance.
- zeromous, on 12/21/2007, -1/+13yes and yes
- MCCULLAH, on 12/21/2007, -2/+5wait....there arent sd slots on the ps3?
- HAKdragon, on 12/21/2007, -2/+12Lower end models don't have flash card (SD, CF, MS) readers. I know that's true for the 20GB and I think for the 40GB as well. The 60GB and 80GB included flash card readers.
- superkendall, on 12/21/2007, -4/+6All the newer ones have them, only talking about older base models they used to sell.
- xino, on 12/21/2007, -2/+7All the newer ones have them except the 40GB model. That doesn't have any SD, compact flash, or memory stick pro duo slot and has 2 USB ports instead of 4.
- obxjdt, on 12/21/2007, -2/+7How about some screen shots....
- obxjdt, on 12/21/2007, -3/+4OK, my bad, I posted before reading....
“DM-Shrine” isn't a new map, but a conversion from UT2k4-UT2k3. Might even go back as far as UT (classic).
I'm going to hold out on buying the game for now. I hear it's still a bit buggy, and they dumbed down the graphics to work on consoles. I haven't seen it in with my own eyes yet, but I get the feeling there will be a UT2008 for the PC.
It's odd that they haven't even made a demo for Mac or Linux yet. UT has always been big on multi-platforms. Every UT till now has included a Mac & Linux installer.
I would like to see UED running on a console. It's basically a CAD program.- charlescheese, on 12/21/2007, -1/+4The only buggy thing I'm aware of is the voice chat problem. The graphics are out of this world and the game runs incredibly well. They'll fix the voice chat thing, so I wouldn't let that stop you.
- obxjdt, on 12/21/2007, -2/+2Thanks for the review!!!
Are you on a PC, or console??- geartype2, on 12/21/2007, -2/+1it really doesn't matter, I assure you. It's very creepy how well the console version works compared to the pc counterpart.
- obxjdt, on 12/21/2007, -2/+2Thanks for the review!!!

- DavidGX, on 12/21/2007, -14/+4This is nice and all but.. why not just play it on pc. I mean, you're using a mouse/kb and user generated content. Just seems like you might as well go the extra... half inch and play the PC version.
- dondara, on 12/21/2007, -3/+15I agree about the mouse and keyboard but putting up with windows is too much to ask just to play games.
- DavidGX, on 12/21/2007, -3/+3I'm not a fan of the mouse/kb gaming set up myself, I'm just saying. If I was, I'd probably stick to pc gaming. I like to play games on consoles to play differently than I would on a pc. Honestly, if I wanted a pointing device I'd use a Wiimote. IMO it's better than a mouse/kb and console-specific.
- geartype2, on 12/21/2007, -0/+2For me it's a comfort thing. I can lay on my bed and play pretty accurately with a controller. Also, I don't have to worry about nvidia/ati creating a driver update that breaks texture streaming or something. By allowing users to use keyboard/mouse, or even download mods they are really saying "hey, if you don't have a great pc, but do own a PS3, you are going to be okay getting this on the console". I don't really think anyone expects or believes one will overtake the other and that will be the end of it.
- Tahiri, on 12/21/2007, -1/+6The wiimote is far less accurate than a decent mouse
- DavidGX, on 12/21/2007, -3/+3I'm not a fan of the mouse/kb gaming set up myself, I'm just saying. If I was, I'd probably stick to pc gaming. - Katana314, on 12/21/2007, -0/+12I sort of wish someone would make a "gaming Operating System" that allowed you to put all resources into playing games.
- staticneuron, on 12/21/2007, -1/+3Those exist..... they are on consoles.
- seefresh, on 12/21/2007, -2/+11I'm afraid my computer won't play the game, and I don't have 2 grand to drop on a gaming computer right now. The ps3 will have to do :D
- lacronicus, on 12/21/2007, -6/+2So you haven't gotten a new computer in the last two years? That, and about 200 on a graphics card will get you a rig more than enough to play UT3, likely better than the ps3.
- dondara, on 12/21/2007, -3/+15I agree about the mouse and keyboard but putting up with windows is too much to ask just to play games.
- scabbers, on 12/21/2007, -9/+4Do console FPS gamers have GIGANTIC thumbs?
- Mtown, on 12/21/2007, -3/+5I'm not sure what you mean.
Do PC gamers have big thumbs? Because I can use a keyboard and mouse hooked up to my PS3 and play UT3 just like a PC user, only I'm viewing the game on 42 inch HDTV in my living room and sitting in a comfy recliner.- sirbeta, on 12/21/2007, -3/+5Because only consoles are capable of outputting HD signals to a bigscreen TV right? I only nitpick what you say because I do this on my computer already :P
- Mtown, on 12/21/2007, -3/+3Well most people don't have their PC hooked up to their main TV, haha. I could do the same with my computer as well, but why would I lug my PC tower and cables out to my living room when I can have the same experience on the PS3?
- Skwerl, on 12/21/2007, -3/+4Wow, I'm playing UT3 on my wall, through a 1080p projector, also in a recliner. The difference is, I can switch games with out getting off my ass, got to love having more than 1 optical drive.
- theaceoffire, on 12/21/2007, -3/+4O.o how many do you have? Are they blu-ray, or is the pc version spread on dual layered disks?
- Mtown, on 12/21/2007, -2/+4You got me there. I've always wished the PS3 had a multi-disk-rotator-thing. (seriously, that would rock)
Also, they have 1080p projectors available? - diggrim, on 12/21/2007, -3/+21080p projector? That must have cost a fortune...you probably mean 720p.
- WebWorker, on 12/21/2007, -0/+1Cmon now... http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Sub ...

- LuckyEMS, on 12/21/2007, -14/+3im waiting for the mod that bricks the PS3 instantly
we all know its coming you just gotta wait and be to trusting :)- truspect0r, on 12/21/2007, -1/+7Like the RRoD? Thats a nice feature.
- deaftly, on 12/21/2007, -0/+1hahaha you're so clever and witty
- Tahiri, on 12/21/2007, -0/+7Unreal's scripting engine has no access to PS3s flash.
Bricking is not possible.
- truspect0r, on 12/21/2007, -1/+7Like the RRoD? Thats a nice feature.
- Ghoztt, on 12/21/2007, -2/+10Wait? Standard UT3 PC maps don't work with PS3 UT3?
This doesn't make sense to me because (as a longtime UED mapper) we are using the same texture and actor packages sooo....- charlescheese, on 12/21/2007, -1/+8It will literally be the click of a button to make the mods work on PS3. It sounds like the application is ready as ambr said, it just needs approval from Sony. So we should see this stuff coming very soon.
- CaffeinePowered, on 12/21/2007, -3/+4Id give it one week until someone finds a way to hack the PS3 using custom unreal content
- spyofchaos, on 12/21/2007, -0/+2Dang... I guess you could run unsigned code but I doubt there's a simple exploit. We don't know to what extent scripts for mods can be utilized for homebrew or softmoding... Theoretically you could do that with any savegame or other files on a ps3, but that would require loads and loads of thinking and working. In the beginning when not many people had knowledge for psp hacking, things went slow and I bet that if the firmware 1.00 and 1.50 wouldn't have had the exploit to run unsigned code in the first place, the community for homebrew would have been considerably smaller and downgrades wouldn't have been developped cus of the lack of coders...
Basically, it's possible but you need a lot of people working on it for someone to find the holy grail. - Biznarie, on 12/21/2007, -1/+0wouldn't that be something! i'd go buy a ps3 in a second if that happens lol
- spyofchaos, on 12/21/2007, -0/+2Dang... I guess you could run unsigned code but I doubt there's a simple exploit. - bl4h, on 12/21/2007, -16/+5how cute. puny consoles
- Mtown, on 12/21/2007, -2/+10If your definition of "puny" is "at least twice (probably more) as powerful as whatever computer you are using" than yes, the PS3 is puny.
- diggrim, on 12/21/2007, -3/+1dugg both comments for humor
- gbro, on 12/21/2007, -2/+3CONSOLES GIVE MORBO GAS!

- blankoboy, on 12/21/2007, -5/+3When will the 65nm RSX based PS3's (the current 40GB model has the 65nm Cell but the RSX is still 90nm) be hitting the market.....next spring? I know the chips are in production. I will hold off purchasing a PS3 until this time. Also, hoping to see Skype show up on the PS3.
- jacksons98, on 12/21/2007, -1/+9There really isn't any reason to wait. The new chip will just make the unit more energy efficient.
- blankoboy, on 12/21/2007, -3/+3exactly....also less heat thereby increasing lifespan of my purchase. Reason enough for me to wait. I am in no rush to purchase.
- MrMafoo, on 12/21/2007, -2/+1In it's current form, I am sure it's lifespan is many years. The HD will probably go before the unit. It's already a cool running system.
And the diff in energy will probably be 2-3 dollars a year. Not a real good reason to not get it.

- damnyooneek, on 12/21/2007, -2/+2its not an xbox 360? there's no over heating issues. why do you need to wait?

- jacksons98, on 12/21/2007, -2/+11This is a milestone for console gamers. Happy Sony stepped it up to bring MOD support. Hope we see more of this in the future.
- pigfister, on 12/21/2007, -10/+3Feck off sony numbnuts this is not worthy of dig, take you PR blogs somewhere else!

FTA: We've all heard about employees being sacked for blogging. But as the fad begins to wane, will staff soon be sacked for failing to blog?
Last week, Sony BMG UK issued a new corporate marketing strategy.
According to an official release from the group, Ged Doherty, chairman and chief executive of SonyBMG in UK and Ireland, said the company "has made it obligatory for all senior staff at both Columbia Records and RCA Records to start blogging actively". - KosherInfidel, on 12/21/2007, -8/+4Congrats! And, if you have the 40gb or 20gb model, you can't use it. Where ya gonna stick the mem stick? Good job Sony.
- sanwedgy, on 12/21/2007, -1/+5I dunno where you would put it, but i would put it in the in the USB slots that are on both models
- bdawg123, on 12/21/2007, -1/+5Ever hear of a USB thumb drive? Way to not having a clue what you're talking about.
- NeonFire, on 12/24/2007, -0/+2In a USB memory card reader. Better yet,a flash drive.
- punkrockguy, on 12/21/2007, -2/+7you stick it on a usb thumb drive. the 20 and 40 gig ps3s still have usb ports.
- MrMafoo, on 12/21/2007, -6/+6Funny, now that there are not a dozen reasons to hate the PS3, when something absolutly cool comes out, we see all the diehard fanboys argue the most absurde things.
In this thread, we have:
“You can’t use this on some PS3’s” (wrong)
“I will wait for a ‘better’ PS3” (failure rates on PS3’s are less than 1%)
“It will brink it” (Nothing ever has, why would this)
“I will wait for the better 360 version” (If you want a 360 version with MOD’s, you are going to have to wait a very long time)
And my personal favorite:
“Sony sucks” (Sony sucks no worse than any other large corporation)
These are all akin to saying:
What, it can do that? Yea, well, my dad can kick your dad’s ass!
Grow up and realize this is a good day for gamming, stop putting something great down just because your $400 didn’t buy the ability to use it. - deaftly, on 12/21/2007, -2/+3To Fanboys: Buy all 3 consoles and stfu

A gamer who is sick of your stupid arguements - ChinezePanda, on 12/22/2007, -3/+1^ I have all 3.... and I just tune them out..
Or I get the people at my local Gamestop fired for giving their fanboy argumentive opinion to everyone and me. - anarko, on 03/01/2008, -0/+0Looks very good. Hope we see more of this in the future. Regards, http://www.anarsist.org/felsefe/
