- shinythingy, on 10/10/2007, -9/+47EA making an original IPA? Buried as inaccurate.
- Paroparo, on 10/10/2007, -2/+16Spore says hi.
- hexdump, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10"In Dead Space, players step into the role of engineer Isaac Clarke – an ordinary man on a seemingly routine mission to fix the communications systems aboard a deep space mining ship." This must a homage. Isaac Clarke is certainly a better name for a protagonist than Arthur Asimov.
- MechaZain, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10Army of Two says hello.
- Etaoin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Gesundheit.
- fkr3, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10The real news is EA developing something at all instead of just slapping new graphics and a weak story on an old engine.
- nreynolds, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9the first iteration of Madden says hello?
- Mongoose, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9"developing an original intellectual property?" Euphemisms FTL.
- Jobe479, on 10/10/2007, -4/+10No PC no care.
- MOJIRA, on 05/17/2008, -0/+6Okay, EA's got some good games, but you had to admit they've become THE mass production C grade game company.
- fearlessfrog, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7Ok, I'm going to get called a pussy here, but why do all the latest n-gen tech games have to be horror based?
Doom 3, BioShock, Resident Evil, even bits of Half-Life 2 all rely on the lazy 'it jumps out out you horror house' technique to produce some emotional reaction from the player. Sitting in the dark, staring at a dark screen is starting to get really old. Plus I don't really like it that much - how about a plot that doesn't involve the undead?
It's like the entire game industry is fixated by the bedroom wall of a 17 year old Texan's boy's Guns n Roses poster from the 80's.
Come on game designers- less horror/shock games and better/more original content! - nreynolds, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6@ myself
*****, skate says hello. - hadiz, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7Bit presumptuous for them to call it "brilliant" and it isn't even out.
- smek2, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7"In the brilliant, bold and often-bloody Dead Space gamers will step into a" -- the game isn't even out yet and already it's called brilliant? Looks like a another case of Further Adventures In Press Releases.
- Sogui, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4A concept like this seems like it would have a lot of potential. But we can always rely on EA to take even the most promising of premises and turn them into a bland sub-par experience.
- masterthiefster, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Don't worry, they can churn out three sequels using 90% of the first game's assets. It's an investment!
- psg188, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Which is why he said he doesn't care, and neither do I.
- AndrewDB, on 01/10/2008, -0/+3Except for Spore isn't done by EA. It's done by Maxis, EA is just distributing it.
- Rupan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3buried for old news. It was a GI cover story this month
- Carg0, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3that shouldn't be the name for their new game, it should be the full name of their 'assembly-line' company. ***** parasites.
- sponeil, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4You forgot "Fear". This genre has been over-done already.
- 2Bnor2B, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3The only horror in current EA games are in-game ads all over the place.
You know, "....to enhance the gaming experience" - RogueJediX, on 10/10/2007, -7/+9The titular Dead Space obviously reffering to the innovation department in the EA building (or the lack thereof).
- jeff303, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Yeah I like how they say "intellectual property" instead of "content" or something else that sounds interesting.
- NecroSexy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2More like Dead Duck.
- Spuy767, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Sweet, another game that will be ported hurriedly and carelessly to the PS3.
- polyphonic, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2whoops bury me
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1No, it's the simple fact that EA paid for the "story." I remember back when TechTV was TechTV that certain blocks of time were programming put together by Microsoft. But that doesn't make them any less infomercials.
- Dorepoll, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4Dug for original IP.
- Meccabilly, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2What about this is particuarly original... i have yet to see... Space zombies was done way back in original Doom and then updated in Doom3 - that was sorta creepy for some of it.
- imdwalrus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Am I the only one who read the headline as "Dead Spore" and pictured a zombie-themed spinoff of everyone's favorite still-in-development evolution sim?
I need to sleep more. ;_; - frenziedherring, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1EA bought Maxis, so it's pretty much EA.
- imjohn, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Looks like a press release got dugg. Blah.
- TrojanGuy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1They just announced this today? I got my Game Informer with Dead Space on the cover last week.
- JeFurry, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2Dugg for the game character's name - Isaac Clarke. All we need now is a sidekick character called Arthur Asimov...
- MOJIRA, on 05/17/2008, -1/+1Isn't that Russian at the top? Or is it Hebrew? Definitely not German either way.
- masterthiefster, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1A lot of EA's recent games have been dead space....
- mydave, on 07/31/2008, -0/+0Set in the cold blackness of deep space, the atmosphere is soaked with a feeling of tension, dread and sheer terror. In Dead Space, players step into the role of engineer Isaac Clarke – an ordinary man on a seemingly routine mission to fix the communications systems aboard a deep space mining ship.

http://auk.kg/forum/index.php?board=1 - ryllharu, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2I seem to recall an old survival horror game that took place in space made by Sega. The alien was invisible and you could only hear it.

If EA can make this version not suck, then I'm all for it, but space survival horror is not really that original a concept. But a new IP is a new IP. Then they can make 8 sequels of it too! - Nightfall, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1FTA:
Dead Space is expected to ship in Fall 2008 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. - capiCrimm, on 10/10/2007, -4/+3Spore 2008, Spore 2009, Spore 2010, and Spore 2011 say hello as well.
- frenziedherring, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0Devil's Advocate: They could be calling it brilliant from playable demos. Who knows how much development they've already done for it...
- BTMPL, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2System Shock 2 anyone?
- jimmick, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2I don't know, EA hasn't tackled an original concept in a while.
I'll just have to remain 7 days a skeptic - thanakar, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1Buried as inaccurate. This information was in my GameInformer magazine from last month - old news.
