- GameEngineer, on 06/03/2009, -15/+46Kojima dished the single most epic ownage in E3 history right there on stage at the Sony conference.
He was very careful to make sure the translator got his words right and everyone understood him:
1. MGS: Peace Walker is his game - he is designing and directing it. It is a real Metal Gear Solid title.
2. He has nothing to do with the MSG Rising crap - it's some other team.
3. It isn't a real Metal Gear Solid title. Nothing more than an action spinoff that has Raiden in it.
Absolutely brutal. MGS Rising was supposed to be the crown jewel of the Microsoft conference and the father of the series comes out the next day and disowns the game.
Epic. Absolutely epic ownage of Microsoft by Kojima and Sony. - Zcrubby, on 06/03/2009, -3/+20Rising is multiplatform, meaning PS3 will also have it..
- Jhiaxuz, on 06/03/2009, -1/+16Solid Snake, Solidus Snake, and Liquid Snake are genetically enhanced/cloned remnants of Big Boss who also went by the code name Naked Snake.
- readme, on 06/03/2009, -0/+13True sequel to MGS3. Can't wait, even though it's on the tiny screen.
- Shazbuckle, on 06/03/2009, -0/+12They were genetically modified to age fast
- Zcrubby, on 06/03/2009, -0/+11Rising is multiplatform, and it's not the first time MGS is released to another platform, Gamecube had Twin Snakes
- MrFisty, on 06/03/2009, -0/+7But can you feed on a tree frog?
- AzureRise, on 06/03/2009, -0/+6And Xbox had MGS2.
- DivisibleByZero, on 06/03/2009, -1/+7I think the "not a real Metal Gear title" phenomenon is a credible one. Go back and play Snakes Revenge for the NES, then play Metal Gear 2 from the MSX and see the difference a Kojima makes.
- RUFiO006, on 06/03/2009, -1/+7Why the hell are there four Snakes?!
- seefresh, on 06/03/2009, -0/+6The new PSP's can be hooked up to your TV. I did it with Chains of Olympus and it actually looks pretty damn good with HD component cables.
- Speedy7, on 06/03/2009, -0/+5Portable Ops was a legendary PSP game in it's own right. I'm excited by this revelation.
- bwishey, on 06/03/2009, -1/+6Metal Gear Solid: The Four Swords? Guns? Eyepatches?
- ShingoEX, on 06/03/2009, -0/+5Wll, kinda. It's the 2nd sequel to MGS3, right after Portable Ops.
- DivisibleByZero, on 06/03/2009, -0/+4Where'd you get that there were 8 of them? My metal gear lore is a little bit rusty. Time to play through all the games again.
- eloestea, on 06/03/2009, -2/+5Sony sold me a psp go based just off this, just like i bought a ps3 for MGS4.
I might have bought an xbox if the MGS:R was exclusive to that.....but its not as it will be coming to the triple as well.
Ive seen a lot of cats talking about how MS will be getting the franchise, and the xbox fans are already screaming: "yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah, were getting MGS1-4 too" Big ass NO-NO....kojima said it himself, its just the franchise....meaning, only MGS:R....not all the old games. they have said it plenty of times. NO MGS4 for the xbox.
which sucks for alot of gamers who have the 360 and not the ps3....metal gear is one of the best series ever. - DivisibleByZero, on 06/03/2009, -0/+3I imagine it'll be at least as sneaky as Portable Ops was. Hopefully not as repetitive.
1) Knock dude out
2) Drag dude back to truck
3) Find another dude... - GameEngineer, on 06/03/2009, -2/+4Why would you buy a console for a game that the creator of the franchise, Kojima, has nothing to do with and already completely disowned?
- FirstCuts, on 06/03/2009, -4/+6This was to expected after yesterday's E3 MGS announcement about the Xbox 360. Very interesting to see how the series will develop from here!
- WraTH017, on 06/03/2009, -2/+4What a shame that I won't get to play it. MGS3 was the best in the series, but a follow up won't make me buy a PSP.
At least it's good news for people who own a PSP. - Shazbuckle, on 06/03/2009, -0/+2Is metal gear rising going to be a sneaking game?
Or is it just a fighting game with MG on the cover to get sales?
And I wonder what kind of story there will be, epic cut scenes, cardboard box? :D - JudgeMonkey, on 06/03/2009, -0/+2No one said he disowned the ps3 (something which he doesn't own anyway, so uh...). He disowned MGS: Rising. SO says this article anyway. I didn't catch the show.
- tumoas, on 06/03/2009, -0/+2why not? four is always better than one. it must be a multiplayer option or something.
besides they're all big boss's they have the eyepatch - KrustyTClown, on 06/03/2009, -4/+6He is right though. Don't expect this game to be as polished or epic as MGS4. MGS4 took up almost 50gb. Don't expect the same quality from this spin off.
- ry4nsm1th, on 06/04/2009, -0/+1There has already been a legit MGS title featuring Big Boss for the PSP, why are you only sold on this one?
- 8BitGaming, on 06/04/2009, -0/+1I don't think they could have turned into full grown adults in two years.
- Nateon, on 06/04/2009, -0/+1MGS3 was one of my favorite games of all time. They're really trying to get me to buy a psp. A while ago with Portable Ops and now this? It would be cool to see this an an arcade download on PS3 and 360, I've never been that the psp but I might have to give it a whirl.
- lotrtrotk, on 06/04/2009, -1/+2I don't see how this is "epic ownage" of Microsoft... xbox has a piece of the MGS franchise. Whether or not it's a true blue sequel, they still have a game they traditionally wouldn't have had otherwise. Microsoft has not lost anything by this announcement.
- ShingoEX, on 06/03/2009, -2/+3"Les Enfant Terribles" - The Big Boss cloning program. Solid, Liquid , and Solidus are 3 of the octuplet clones, leaving 5 unaccounted for. Perhaps due to programmed age acceleration (shown in MGS4, with a rapidly aging Solid Snake), Big Boss helped to form (at least) 4 of the remaining clones as a personal army, not unlike what happened in Star Wars with the clone troopers.
- VacantThoughts, on 06/09/2009, -0/+1Though now I have to buy a ***** PSP to play the actual stealth MGS. Couldn't really care less about an action oriented MGS though I'll most likely still buy it for back story.
- VacantThoughts, on 06/09/2009, -0/+1Their were clones made before the final batch of Sold and Liquid. Those clones died in combat with Big Boss while he was a member of the patriots. Unknowing to him another batch of clones was made behind his back, Solid and Liquid. He got pissed that they made more clones of him, ran on down to Zanzibar and got his ass beaten up by Snake.
- bluerei, on 06/03/2009, -2/+3Soldius, maybe. Liquid, no way. He was a genetic defect and he looks nothing like Big Boss. Once the aging process occurs, there is no reversal. Plus Liquid didn't wear an eye patch.
- jacksons98, on 06/03/2009, -1/+2Sony is NOT cancelling the regular PSP. If you watched their conference they are going to offer both options. So you can still "nab" a regular PSP.
- KyleMistry, on 06/03/2009, -0/+1Nobody's guessed multiplayer?
Really? - RafiParrr, on 06/03/2009, -0/+1I really hope they release a PS2 version along with the PSP one, a la Motorstorm: Arctic Whatever.
- eloestea, on 06/03/2009, -1/+2my nephew has the original psp and portable ops... and whenever i get around to it ill just use his. unless i can find a used one cheap.
- DivisibleByZero, on 06/03/2009, -0/+1oops, my bad.
Yeah rising looks like it's going to suck. - staticneuron, on 06/03/2009, -0/+1He us talking about rising not peacewalker.
Rising has lighting bolt action on it....... so I am guessing it is going to be more action orientated. Why on earth would raiden need to sneak when he can dispense major damage to gekkos like that. - staticneuron, on 06/03/2009, -0/+1Wrong. In the Les enfant Terribles project only two were created. Solid and liquid while the other children were aborted to pass extra genes to them.
Big Boss heard about the project, got mad and left the patriots and thats when Zero made solidus.
Yep, if you look up the lore, despite looking much older solidus is younger than both liquid and solid. - theaceoffire, on 06/03/2009, -1/+1It wasn't disowned until a bit later.
- NeoTechni, on 06/03/2009, -3/+3"The idiocy in this comment is almost overwhelming. Fanboyism does this to people"
You're calling Hideo Kojima an idiot fanboy? Cause he's the one who said it. - electricwaffles, on 06/03/2009, -0/+1Wish they'd make a legit MGS for the iPhone. I mean, you can even control Snake's movement in the current game.
- ShingoEX, on 06/03/2009, -4/+4Kojima didn't say Rising wasn't a real MGS title.I'm not sure who's ass people are pulling this from. He said the PSP one is the true sequel. Anyone with half a brain would realize he's referring to the "Snake" saga. Rising is canon to MGS by showing Raiden's story.
Saying it's not a real MGS title because Kojima isn't directing it is like saying Empire Strikes Back isn't a real Star Wars movie because Lucas didn't direct it.
Also, Kojima didn't even endorse Snake's Revenge, so even comparing that to Rising is absolute stupidity. - 8BitGaming, on 06/03/2009, -2/+1But "Les Enfant Terribles" occurred in 1972! There's no way they could've aged that quickly!
- ShingoEX, on 06/03/2009, -3/+2I would've nabbed a regular PSP. It has all the main features of the "Go" (only missing Bluetooth PS3 connectivity, but that's remedied with USB as well as wi-fi) AND it can play UMDs.
Also, the PSP screen is bigger than the PSPG's. - supersteve, on 06/03/2009, -2/+2MGS for the PSP was horrible and disgraceful. The controls were down right pathetic.
The iPhone version is also very lame.
I don't have any faith in these games on a portable system -
