- BigSabowski, on 10/20/2008, -23/+89Very disappointing Sony.
Very. - inactive, on 10/20/2008, -22/+62Sony must keep track of your IP for the Remote Wake up function to work
Sony must keep track of the games you play for Trophies, and the "Last Seen Playing: " option in the buddy list
Sony must say they can give away your user made content for games like LittleBigPlanet to work.
Another case of Mountain/Molehill - dansmeek, on 10/20/2008, -4/+44as a corporation, sony comes off as evil, rude, arrogant... etc.
but it's funny. whenever i've had to deal with issues and talk to them on a personal level i receive the utmost quality service. blu ray drive stoped working? they sent me a box and replaced it all free of charge. i replace my hard drive and lose all my video content.... they let me redownload the videos the very next day. the customer service reps are all very nice. and often they will allow the users to do things that is not necessarily approved by the corporation. - WhereAmI, on 10/20/2008, -12/+46Microsoft can listen to what you say too...
This is pretty stupid. - shinythingy, on 10/20/2008, -6/+30This is new how? When have you ever seen a TOS that doesn't potentially ***** the consumer over? Google are notorious for it, and do people seriously think communications aren't monitored on Live? Seriously?
*****?Yes, no doubt about it.
New? No, not even slightly.
Are people over-reacting to this? Yes. It is OK to be pissed off but lets not act as if SONY are the first ones to pull this type of thing. - reyoo30309, on 10/20/2008, -20/+44To sum it up. "Bend over, we own you."
- inactive, on 10/20/2008, -3/+21You an still buy games *****
- Tubal22, on 10/21/2008, -6/+22That's not what they're saying. They're protecting their butts so that when some whiny little bitch sues them because there are words from the Koran in someone's LBP level, they can take it down without some other whiny little bitch suing them for lack of freedom of speech.
Too many whiny little bitches in the world these days. - Andy.D, on 10/20/2008, -17/+33And yet not surprising! Sony strikes again...
- hadiz, on 10/21/2008, -3/+19It's probably monitored about as much as any other form of communication is.
- inactive, on 10/21/2008, -3/+19Dedicated servers, free, and does 99.9% of what Live does, all on faster dedicated servers rather than peer to peer
- BrianD2, on 10/20/2008, -5/+21and because it's free.
- 3sicasity, on 10/21/2008, -8/+24so pretty much, if you build a lbp level, they can sell it as a expansion. thats pretty *****, sony.
- FredFredrickson, on 10/21/2008, -6/+21Claiming the rights of ownership of all data streaming through the network is not a run-of-the-mill TOS at all. Claiming the right to use said content is pretty standard. Claiming ownership is not.
- Goodanswer, on 10/21/2008, -6/+20.. how bout you dont buy their *****..duh
- truspector, on 10/20/2008, -3/+17From the encyclopedia retardica, third edition:
an = can - inactive, on 10/20/2008, -14/+28It's a pretty standard TOS, enough with the sensationalism!
- Ajajadude, on 10/21/2008, -4/+17Name one electronics company that doesn't gather info on their customers.
They're reserving the right to listen in on what you say. What are the odds that they'll actually do it? - juand182, on 10/20/2008, -5/+17because there are games that are "Online Only" like socom that we play
- Migito, on 10/21/2008, -2/+14It's amazing that you saw this coming and quit playing them before this was even news.
- Klisk, on 10/21/2008, -3/+14Exactly... They don't.
They can!
But if they need to. No one is going to put money into monitoring cybersex and kids arguing with each other.
However, if you combine the two... - Khast, on 10/21/2008, -3/+14I honestly think that the consumer should read the TOS a little closer, if people actually read these things, I think that a lot of online services would be userless. ***** these companies, it seems the better the technology gets, the more oppressive the companies become...
I can see protecting their software and content...but this is going a bit too far.... - staticneuron, on 10/21/2008, -3/+13
Honestly doing things on your PS3 that is so shocking that Sony cannot see?
I see this as pointless complaining as always.
Most of those are CYA probably because theur really gearing up to release LBP and Home.
They want to ward off against people who would hack the system and those that manage to sneak certain rented videos off of the PSN and distribute them on the net.
And last but not least the complaint about loss of data. Another CYA (one that any technically proficient person knew was going to become an issue) because of the ability to put your own hard drive into the PS3. I am sure that even though the TOS says they wont, they probably will if you explain the situation.
I cannot see how ANYTHING that I do on my PS3 would represent a huge loss of privacy. I already have given them certain info already just to purchase things off the store so other than that the ability to watch what games and movies I play or even what content I create for certain games I see nothing that would require such bellyaching over loss of privacy.
If I create something for home or LBP ia can easily see how this is going to relate for accountability and the ability for sony to store user data. - staticneuron, on 10/21/2008, -1/+10When you are talking about a closed service and a game like LBP or Home, yes, I can see claiming ownership of content.
- KountChocula, on 10/21/2008, -2/+11Actually I agree with him on Sony's customer service. I had a very complicated ordeal with losing access to the email account I set up my PS3 with and a few emails/calls later they had it all fixed. The representative over the phone was way cool to boot
- inactive, on 10/21/2008, -2/+11They don't. Imagine the time it'd take to go over all messages.
- inactive, on 10/21/2008, -1/+10"Try to hold an adult conversation here, or get out little boy"
Lol. Ironic coming from you. Especially given the immaturity of you own post!
"If online gaming was so much better on the PS3, why is everyone still paying for XBL and the 360 has the largest install base of online gamers?"
Everyone is not paying for Live. And PSN has as many users as there are gold members of Live.
"Gamers don't need dedicated servers"
True. We don't need dedicated servers, just like we don't NEED any feature of Live or even games themselves.
"they produce little difference"
False, they produce a HUGE difference.
Games have less lag, are not susceptible to host advantages, lag attacks (people standbying their routers) support higher player counts, better in-game performance for users, less vulnerable to hacks, and no worrying about the host disconnecting
"I guess the exclusive games keep people on the 360 & LIVE over getting a PS3 to play on the PSN alone, with no friends, and no one with a mic."
Complete and utter *****. You're not alone on PSN. Again, it has as many users as Live has Gold members. Lots of people have mics. Any USB or bluetooth headset works, any USB webcam including eyetoy and 360s webcam.
"Just keep enjoying your lackluster PSN that is nothing but a poor excuse for a free XBL experience. Which in no way lives up to the real deal which is only on the 360."
PSN is not lackluster. Again, it has 99.99% of Live's features. Even some Live doesn't. It's not a poor excuse for Live at all, and thanks to dedicated servers in-game performance (the reason you play games) is superior. And this and the last quote I replied to shows you of all people aren't allowed to tell people to have an adult conversation since you can't hold one yourself.
Live is not the real deal. Steam is.
And note how unlike you, I managed to defend PSN without insulting Live. - KrustyTClown, on 10/21/2008, -2/+10He called you ''Big Guy'' what a *****.
- Ajajadude, on 10/21/2008, -5/+13Yeah, I can see how something non-intrusive can be related to something that is intrusive
- KrustyTClown, on 10/22/2008, -1/+9So you admit your a loser.
- MrSkrilla, on 10/21/2008, -3/+11And they are? ....
- GUTTS, on 10/21/2008, -1/+8Don't know why you've been buried but I totally agree. Enough with the racist ***** alrdy.
- dandonia, on 10/21/2008, -0/+7The Queen owns my house and all my land, even if I buy it - the lady owns it.
- inactive, on 10/21/2008, -2/+9Movies downloaded off PSN can be copied to USB devices, flash cards, PSPs
- apothekari, on 10/20/2008, -22/+29I was a Sony fan once...Back in the PS1 days when I was so sick of Sega and Nintendo's ***** they were doing at the time.
Sega's pathological need to keep introducing new hardware and not support it Segacd,32x,32xcd,Saturn,Nomad.
Nintendo's control freak insistence on cartridges and family friendliness.
Then came Sony and gave gamers what they wanted...ZERO ***** and awesome games!
Now they have become exactly what did Sega IN and almost did Nintendo.
You DON'T DICTATE to us *****!
We either buy your product at our pleasure or we do not.
We are the consumer, You exist at our whim or you perish!
We call the shots, You give us what we want or we find someone who will.
This is the cold brutality of commerce.
The Icy mathematics of capital and trade.
It should be burned into your company's flesh.
We are the Buyer...Beware!
- santasing, on 10/21/2008, -1/+8It must suck to be this guy (collapse). He has been trolling against the PS3 for what like 2 years now. How much of a loser does one have to be to be this guy (unless MS is paying him to sit on Digg all day long and come up with asinine theories).
- diggymow, on 10/21/2008, -6/+13People seem to be missing that point. If you create anything in game, they own it and you have no right to it whatsoever. That's a pretty big deal for me.
- dandonia, on 10/21/2008, -3/+9Lets relate what Sony are doing to a game that could benefit from this type of policy.
Smackdown vs Raw 2009
One of the major complaints about the Smackdown series each year is that they are missing moves. This is simply because there are 1000's of moves used in wrestling world wide and the developers have to keep them all upto date. This year in an effort to solve the issue they are letting us create our own moves. If they would have allowed us to distribute these moves to a server with a rating system, then included the most popular of them in the next game on the disc, the millions of people buying the game would have 1000's of moves to choose from. As a guy that will create probably 100's of these bad boys, I would be over the moon for THQ/Yukes to include them in the game the following year.
Why would I be bothered if they benefited from my fun experience of gaming? Will it make the game I buy next year better? Would I have been paid for the moves if they didn't include them on the disc? What am I missing out on?
From my understanding LBP's user created content is free online. So why would anyone pay to download a pack of them? Millions of people are buying the game. If they make one level each thats millions of levels to look through for free. - frrs, on 10/21/2008, -1/+7@dandonia
"and if you bought any games over xbox live they all revert to trial's which means you could have spent potentially £100's on games"
They won't revert to trials just because you get kicked off from Live. You'll still keep them. - 3sicasity, on 10/21/2008, -9/+15dude, microsoft is alot closer to Big brother than sony ever will be.
- ProphetSix, on 10/20/2008, -21/+27Apparently, they DIDN'T learn from the Audio CD Rootkit fiasco...
- thebaron2, on 10/21/2008, -3/+9I don't know, does Microsoft say that they monitor your chat when you're signed into XBL?
And MS just launched their program to let people create games and then sell them. This sounds like some 3rd party company could get an aggregate "best of" of a crapload of user-created levels for LittleBigPlanet and then sell them as package, or something along those lines.
They explicitly say that they not only own whatever you make, but that they can turn around and sell it to anyone, or sub-license it to any 3rd party to be sold by them somehow. Maybe it is relatively standard, which would surprise me as all of this tech is relatively new, but it still sucks balls. - whateverHeSaid, on 10/22/2008, -1/+7You have it backwards, Collapse. The only reason you post non-stop about the PS3 is because you are pissed off at the world because mommy and daddy wouldn't buy you one. This is obvious to everyone except you.
Apparently, your 360 doesn't provide much in the way of entertainment value since you spend more time on Digg getting your panties in a bunch whenever anyone tries to say something positive about the PS3.
You claim you are in it for the laughs. But your posts reek of insecurity and despair. The only laughing is directed at you by those that bury your whiny rants.
As everyone else has already stated, you are a sad, mad, little loser. At least you know the truth now. - JackZim, on 10/21/2008, -0/+6Not like this is any different than what's happening in Britain, EVERYTHING is being tapped there.
- Klisk, on 10/21/2008, -1/+7@dandonia
They don't monitor. But if one person gets 10 reports within a close range for similar offenses, then they will be banned. It's a quantity system. One report won't do anything. Many reports over an amount of time for similar offenses... Ban. - KrustyTClown, on 10/22/2008, -1/+7Awww, are you getting mad again. Poor little CC.
- CarnivalOfDust, on 10/21/2008, -1/+6Can hero.
- FredFredrickson, on 10/21/2008, -1/+6And movies on XBL are rentals. TV shows can be re-downloaded if you want to as well.
- staticneuron, on 10/21/2008, -0/+5Oooor...... Sony stores your stuff on their servers. That changes things abit. Keep in mind MS does NOT allow you to create user submitted things for games yet so I wonder how much scrutiny MS will get when the NXE eula drops?
