- octodope, on 05/09/2008, -2/+3Big boss... in MGS 4? well, I am definitely buying the game in June.
- mywhitenoise, on 05/09/2008, -0/+3That was the deciding factor?
- NaziHatinChimp, on 05/09/2008, -0/+4Yeah no *****. You had me at "Metal Gear".
- Nobi-Wan, on 05/09/2008, -0/+3It could be just a cutscene flashback or something. Either way I hope we see the return of Big Boss and maybe how he turns against Liquid Ocelot or something.
- blackhole82, on 05/09/2008, -0/+9I guess I may need to upgrade to a larger hard drive sooner than I thought if every game is going to have a 5 GB install.
- mywhitenoise, on 05/09/2008, -0/+9I'm not a fan of the installs. I think it's ridiculous to have a game install on the hard drive when they're supposed to make use of the blu-ray storage, but It's not a big deal. Couldn't you just delete the installs of the games that you don't play anymore?
/this coming from someone who installed a 160GB drive.- betrayed, on 05/09/2008, -4/+6They require installs because current Blu-ray drives read very slowly compared to a regular DVD.
- WhereAmI, on 05/09/2008, -4/+5As stated, people like you don't know what you are talking about when that statement is said.
By this guys logic, 2xCD read speed=2x DVD read speed=2x Blu-Ray read speed, which I hope you, the reader of this comment, are smart enough to know thats false. - dig1x, on 05/10/2008, -3/+5@WhereAmI
No, he's absolutely correct.
"The issue arises from differences in the reading techniques of DVD and Blu-ray. By nature, the outer and inner parts of a disc move at different speeds while a disc is spinning, regardless of format (CD, DVD, Blu-ray, HD-DVD, etc.). While DVD drives can read data at those differing speeds, Blu-ray reads at one speed. Combine that with the extremely large size of Blu-ray discs, and simply dumping existing DVD data onto a Blu-ray disc will inevitably result in longer load times. Installations are a way around this issue."
See, BluRay is a movie-media format -- intended for linear reading (start to finish). Games, require access to all kinds of data in multiple places on the disc, causing the read head to skip around. DVD does read faster.
You might want to back away from your false-confidence on the issue.

- Koush, on 05/09/2008, -1/+1When did he leave?
- mywhitenoise, on 05/09/2008, -1/+1MGS1, and MGS2.
- insllvn, on 05/10/2008, -0/+1He was already dead by the time MGS happened. Remember, that was one of the things Liquid was demanding, the remains of Big Boss. Snake (supposedly) killed him at the end of Metal Gear 2
- loganhid, on 05/09/2008, -0/+1I thought he died - snake killed him
- TheAmbushAhead, on 05/10/2008, -0/+1He did. Or that's what we think.
- mywhitenoise, on 05/09/2008, -1/+1MGS1, and MGS2.
- kinseyincanada, on 05/09/2008, -3/+3***** these installs.
- dig1x, on 05/10/2008, -1/+2Why are there installs? Because BluRay is a movie-disc format.

- loganhid, on 05/09/2008, -0/+2Could definitely be Big Boss as it's his right eye that's patched where as:
Solid Snake = No patch/ Solid Eye (Device)
Solidus Snake = Left Eye Patched
Big Boss (AKA Naked Snake) = Right Eye Patched - 3sicasity, on 05/10/2008, -4/+0If this game was on a 360, there would be no installs.
- xTRUMANx, on 05/10/2008, -0/+4If the all 360s had hard drives, there would be installs. It's not a PS3 issue that developers MUST have installs. Its the availability of a hard drive that give developers the opportunity of installs.
- insllvn, on 05/10/2008, -0/+1Actually it is because BluRays can't be read as quickly as conventional DVDs, so it improves load times to move some data to the hard drive.
- volacide, on 05/10/2008, -2/+1It would also lag when it rained if it were on the 360.
/obscure mgs2 substance reference - loganhid, on 05/10/2008, -2/+1If it was on the 360, it would be on several disks
- bumblefoot, on 05/10/2008, -4/+1if it was on the 360 kojima and crew would be on 1 disk due to no need to replicate data multiple times like on the blu ray disk ;)
- xTRUMANx, on 05/10/2008, -1/+2Are you really dumb enough to believe that? I don't think you are with the silly smiley you put at the end but if you're not, what was the point of the comment?
- xTRUMANx, on 05/10/2008, -1/+1Actually, if the game was multi-platform I think Kojima would of made sacrifices to the PS3 version to make it exactly the same on the 360.

- volacide, on 05/10/2008, -0/+1Metal Gear is just that good. I would have bought a PS3 just for MGS4 and the Blu-Ray ability. Honestly.
That being said, I can't imagine how Big Boss is going to come back. I mean I'm sure he will, it's just I have no ***** idea how Kojima is going to manage to bring all of this together. I just know I'll be amazed either way because he's never disappointed me. ***** all that Raiden hating *****, MGS2 was amazing even if it was convoluted and crazy. Sure Snake is way sicker than Raiden but that doesn't change the fact that MGS2 was still just one hell of an experience. - Shogi, on 05/10/2008, -0/+1I hope he doesn't come back. Because that would ***** all over MGS' plot. The Snakes are his legacy, and they are fighting in his wake. If he returns his presence would be unnecessary or he would make someone else unnecessary.
As badass as it would be to see Solid and Big Boss fighting back to back (because undoubtedly BB would realize the chaos his ideal has wreaked and side with Solid to stop Liquid) I'd rather he stayed dead and let his legacy play out. He would ruin the rivalry between Solid and Liquid.
