- negativefx, on 10/16/2007, -9/+71gabe newell is a director, not a programmer, so yes, he probably is a better programmer than gabe newell. i bet he's a better programmer than bo jackson as well
- inactive, on 10/17/2007, -34/+84So this one guy is a better programmer than Gabe Newell. Amusing.
- Dokument, on 10/17/2007, -2/+45there is no i in team. but there is an i in pie. like meat pie. and meat is an anagram of team
- FireAtWill, on 10/17/2007, -1/+38Outstanding. It's guys like this that give me hope for the industry; hopefully he doesn't get swallowed up by some game factory.
- kushed, on 10/19/2007, -4/+38watch EA buy him out in 3...2...1...
- naterpoke, on 10/15/2007, -1/+28WHY THE ***** U GOTTA BRING BO INTO ALL THIS
- fiveprime, on 10/15/2007, -3/+26Bo knows programming?
- djSyndrome, on 10/15/2007, -1/+19Tell me, does being an uninformed douche come naturally, or did you have to go to school for it?
- BestJaxx, on 10/17/2007, -1/+18Found the same subject in Game Informer magazine. Much better. Everday Shooter is gonna be awesome, and hopefully put indie games on the map.
- jer2eydevil88, on 10/13/2007, -3/+18A brilliant engineer at Sony who owns this blog is getting paged now as the server goes into meltdown from all the traffic Digg just sent there.
- santasing, on 10/15/2007, -1/+16Could you point me to some examples? Not being a smartass, I just like to support indie devs if the game is good. A lot of good franchises came from the vision of 1 man.
- mustache, on 10/15/2007, -2/+16You obviously have not played Everyday Shooter yet.
- jeremy1967, on 10/15/2007, -6/+20Because you have industry heavies like Gabe Newell whining about how difficult it is to develop for the PS3. So Gabe (Valve) with all his available resources and manpower looks like a tool when a one man team is able to produce a quality PS3 title without bitching once about it.
- masterm1nd, on 10/15/2007, -5/+18You are an oxymoron.
- FoxOrian, on 10/15/2007, -0/+13Looks like he died of a heart attack before reaching 1.
- RobbieS, on 10/19/2007, -1/+13I got to met Jonathan Mak earlier this year at GDC, and watching him clean up at the IGF awards. He's a pretty rad dude, and it's good to see he is doing so great on this project (which he deserves). For what it's worth...the project was ported to the PS3. Also, Sony was pretty spot on with getting this guy to put the game on PSN, and giving him work for future games. Say what you want about Sony, but they are working really hard to provide a mass platform for the indie devs (with this game, LittleBigPlanet, Flow, etc).
- stupidbrowner, on 10/23/2007, -10/+21from Wikipedia: An oxymoron is a figure of speech that combines two normally contradictory terms
the two _terms_ are "Brilliant" and "PS3 Game" - mustache, on 10/23/2007, -0/+11Everyday Shooter is not only gonna be awesome, it currently is awesome. I picked it up last night, good stuff.
- mustache, on 10/14/2007, -1/+12Um, blog spam sure, of HIS OWN BLOG POST. I'd call it relevant. Especially since it offers a perspective not gained on either of those sites.
- gheddoeninja, on 10/15/2007, -1/+12bought, downloaded, and played it for about 4 hours last night. love the game. great visuals... but besided that, challenging enough to bring you back but not so tuff you lose interest. consider me a happy mini-consumer.
- fantasticFlan, on 10/23/2007, -1/+12Like Geometry Wars?
- dillibob, on 10/13/2007, -1/+11man 5 lbs of hash browns? he's got life made
- RxDaniel, on 10/15/2007, -2/+11EA just bought this guy and gave him a lobotomy. He is now working on Madden '09.
- inactive, on 10/15/2007, -0/+9it would be pretty awesome watching the credits once you beat it
- Zamfir, on 10/14/2007, -5/+14You're blog spam...
- raublekick, on 10/13/2007, -5/+14I am going to play devil's advocate here... Now don't get me wrong. This looks like a great game and is the sole reason I have interest in the PS3 right now.
BUT
This game does not have anywhere near close to the type of development requirements that a game in the style that Valve might put out would have. Games like Everyday Shooter are not nearly as CPU or GPU intensive, and I really doubt that J. Mak had to put a lot of effort into optimizing Everyday Shooter.
I could be completely wrong, and I am certainly no expert, but I think a company like Valve would have to get a lot more knowledgeable about the hardware.
To make sure people don't take what I'm saying the wrong way: Valve probably knows more about how good or bad the hardware is, but that doesn't mean they know more about making a good game. Everyday Shooter is the type of game that can handle a 1-man development team, Half-Life 2 is not. - ElliotShoe, on 10/15/2007, -1/+10it sounds kinda like rez; we need more games like rez
- fantasticFlan, on 10/15/2007, -1/+10It's a contraction of "what are", not very common, but not my own creation.
- wordsofwisedumb, on 10/23/2007, -2/+10If you really want to go down that road, aside from being wrong about the definition of an oxymoron, PS3 is not a word it is an acronym.
- mustache, on 10/14/2007, -1/+9The fact that it's a shooter is about the only thing comparable to any classic arcade machine. First of all a classic arcade cabinet wouldn't even have the CPU to even come close to running this thing. Additionally, the things you do in the game directly affect the music and how the game sounds as a whole. Another thing about this game is that the game play completely changes with every level, and there are some concepts in those levels that I've never seen in any game before.
You're pretty much way off base. - norman619, on 10/23/2007, -3/+10Thanks for letting us know you are a moron.
- mywhitenoise, on 10/15/2007, -4/+11"the music is pretty annoying, and you can't turn it off."
haha, you could always turn down your receiver or tv set. - fantasticFlan, on 10/15/2007, -2/+9What're you talking about? Bo knows programming.
- mustache, on 10/23/2007, -0/+7Have you played it? Obviously not.
- AntBing, on 10/14/2007, -0/+7I imagine he's been working at it ever since the day his daddy sat him down and told him he was special.
- Racerx52, on 10/13/2007, -1/+7It is a damn shame.
I`m failing to see how it is funny. - RobbieS, on 10/19/2007, -0/+6Oh, and I'd guess it is developed on C/C++. As far as graphics API, I'd guess OpenGL, just since it was mentioned he had it ported from PC to PS3 in a couple days. Also, that is what the freeware scene would use (for multiplatform support).
- mustache, on 10/13/2007, -1/+7Yeah but Gears of War sure does look cool.
Nobody is arguing that graphics is more important to the enjoyable nature of the game. But please don't tell me you don't enjoy nice hi-def graphics. I sure do. How about both? - mustache, on 10/15/2007, -4/+10I couldn't disagree more.
- rgaino, on 10/15/2007, -1/+7Nine women can't make a baby in one month. Not even with Fabio.
- mywhitenoise, on 10/23/2007, -1/+6Blast Factor is the only one of those 4 mentioned that has a demo available.
- triplehelix, on 10/23/2007, -2/+7don't apologize for not looking, apologize for lying about playing the demo's and that the games sucked.
- TheXeno, on 10/15/2007, -0/+5Uh, you're totally missing the point of the game. The music married with the game play is what makes it special.
- readme, on 10/15/2007, -0/+5Purchased it yesterday. Great game. Very relaxing.
- tb0n3r, on 10/13/2007, -0/+4You got red on ya.
- Sparkster185, on 10/19/2007, -1/+5That Design Patterns book he has there is a must-read for any developer.
- Cloud7654, on 10/15/2007, -0/+4It would just play a song in the background while the guy's name stays on screen for 5+ minutes.
- Zanza, on 10/15/2007, -0/+4If one guy can make this, than a whole team of people should be making the best games of all time
- spiderfish, on 10/15/2007, -2/+6lier
- Megatog615, on 10/13/2007, -3/+7Because he has to deal with 3 times the processor cores.
