- pimpinaintez, on 10/19/2007, -5/+25The site has updated. It is now at 960% at Amazon!!
- chingy1788, on 10/20/2007, -5/+22hmm this could be a smart strategy
get the ps3 out so everyone knows about it and h ow expensive it is, which may increase want
then drop the price and everyone dives in
hmmm
meh
im still a nintendo person - coheedcollapse, on 10/19/2007, -2/+19I know three people who have them other than me, yet only one of them also owns a 360. It all depends on who you know. Just because your friends don't own a PS3 doesn't mean they're not selling.
- toropee, on 10/20/2007, -2/+18Why don't you just link to Amazon rather than your obscure site?
- dime, on 10/20/2007, -6/+18890% in sales RANK, not sales.
But don't let that little fact stop the circle jerk.
Carry on, gentlemen. - Vistrix, on 10/19/2007, -0/+11The thing is, the PS3 is selling just as much as the 360 did at the same point in its life, which is quite a feat considering its more expensive.
Believe it or not, despite all the hate its selling just as well as the 360. - Zettabyte, on 10/19/2007, -1/+12Oh jeez
How many Halo 3 stories that got on the front page? That was really annoying. - schwab002, on 10/19/2007, -1/+12It'll never be as repetitive and pointless as the number of digg stories bashing ps3 and its sales and praising the wii when the systems were new.
- dmightx, on 09/21/2008, -0/+9Hmm, its increasing so fast too. I wonder if it will hit 2000%
Well I wonder how many PS3s = 100% to amazon. - CDRaff, on 10/19/2007, -7/+16I will get one in the future, but right now the games are just not there.
- otatop, on 10/19/2007, -0/+8"The Movers & Shakers index identifies, by category, the biggest gainers in sales rank at Amazon.com in the past 24 hours. For example, suppose a music item has a sales rank of 10 today, but was ranked as low as 30 yesterday. Its Movers & Shakers increase would be 200 percent."
- inactive, on 10/20/2007, -18/+25When you sell 2 units a month you have nowhere to go but up.
- Cloudime, on 10/19/2007, -4/+11This is great for the PS3, it deserves some attention in spite of it being the lowest selling next-gen console, which I think shooed more customers away.
For me, though, the games just aren't there. Heavenly Sword, MotorStorm, Ninja Gaiden, and Killzone are great, but just not enough yet. - punisher18, on 10/19/2007, -1/+8Americans do love "deals" lol. yeah i dunno i just hope the newer sku's hold up to the near zero failure rate of the first systems..
- Tenlow, on 10/19/2007, -0/+6Actually it's 8.9. 890 is 89000% of 1
- pimpinaintez, on 10/19/2007, -0/+6Wow there are SO many haters! Why cant we just appreciate each console individually instead of bashing one or the other.
- Koldkompress, on 10/20/2007, -1/+7"......"
You mean 8.9, don't you?
Please say you do?
/Doesn't want to give up home on mankind - punisher18, on 10/19/2007, -6/+11you must live in the closet or very dark hole friend...

- RawbCahn, on 10/19/2007, -1/+5Party on Wayne!
- sHockz, on 10/19/2007, -1/+5wooohooo!!! much needed support for new games. I know the ps3 platform is new to game designers is what makes it so interesting. Every time a new platform comes out, it seems it takes about 1 year for the good games to start rolling in, and guess what, ps3's time is here. Uh-oh xbox360 and wii, get ready for the ps3 to creep up right behind. You should see a dramatic increase in sales of ps3's over this holiday. You will also start seeing new badass games, so get ready!!!
Oh yea, btw - If anyone knows how to save in Final Fantasy VII in the ps3 PLEASE LET ME KNOW. My playstation doesnt work at all anymore...but the game works on my ps3. Originally it would save to a memory card, but you dont have memory cards with ps3's. I heard there is a way, I just cant find it. Help! - toropee, on 10/19/2007, -3/+6Good perspective. RANK is up, but it is still selling less than the 10th ranked Wii Charge Station. http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/videogames/re ...
- smacksaw, on 10/19/2007, -4/+7I'd have to think it's due to slow sales. Anyone buying a PS3 at this point has got to make SOME sort of effort in researching their decision, and I would guess many people would take the 60GB model while they still exist. I'd rather have compatibility than an extra 20GB and a game I don't want. I don't think the HD is a make-it-or-break-it issue anyway. In reality, I think people will eventually put their own HD in there, especially as prices for them drop.
I'm not ***** on the PS3 - I was playing mine right before I came back to the PC to check Digg. So relax. I like it. But I bet you that the sales on the 80GB are in the toilet, and if they sold 10 and now sold 96 of them, that's your increase. I go into a Target 4x a week and see the same 2 models sitting there and the 60GB are sold through. - TjLAXattack, on 10/19/2007, -0/+3Yeah... I've had mine since December 2006. That was nearly 11 months ago and to be honest, the fact that it costs $200 less isn't a very big deal over that amount of time. I spent that 11 months renting Blu-ray movies from Netflix on the cheap and playing some decent games that not many others have had the opportunity to play.
- inactive, on 10/19/2007, -0/+3Just a reminder for people comparing 360 sales to PS3 sales - the 360's been out a full year ahead of the PS3.
The total amount of sales for the PS3 now, almost a year after release, is on par with how much the 360 sold a year after the release.
This fanboyism is ***** stupid - on both sides. Idiots who say the PS3 is "too expensive" but don't realize that a 360 over time, with all the BS, is just as much, or the people with PS3s who bitch about MS for simply existing. It's a gigantic "my mom can drive me to soccer better than your mom can" type of ordeal. Retarded.
If you're basing your entertainment purchase simply because of how people will perceive you (eg: "omg everyone on digg says it sucks, but.. I kinda want one. But then I'd have to change my opinion! OH NOES", then you need to snap out of whatever braindead funk you're in and start deciding ***** for yourself.
Any goon with an internet connection, a calculator, and a brain can run some numbers and see for themselves. Quit relying on others' opinions. - Dracusis, on 10/20/2007, -0/+3Up 2700% according to Joystiq: http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/10/ps3-price-drop-d ...
Remember kids, competition is good for all. A strong PS3 means Microsoft & Nintendo will have less leave to sit on their laurels or swim in their pools of cold hard cash. God only knows the Wii needs more (better) games (ir really is a crying shame such a fantastic console has so few hits), maybe this will spur Nintendo into action, or inspire Microsoft to branch out and experiment with wacky peripherals like IR guns (like Time Crisis 4) or a camera addon or other genres that they haven't covered to well yet, or perhaps release an Uber Elite with WiFi and a HD-DVD Drive (we can only hope).
Hating on the PS3, and killing it, will only tun your beloved console makers into monopolistic a-holes. That's what happend to Sony with the PS2, they were ripe pricks to developers and consumers for a long time, but they've had to change tact completly now, and the comsumers are reaping the rewards. Cheap Blu-Ray, rumble added back in, easy upgradable HDDs, WiFi, PS Home, and a lot of good games just released or comming before x-mas. - Dracusis, on 10/19/2007, -0/+2How many games do you plan on buying when you first get the system?
Most people have 2-3 for the first month or more. By the time mid november hits there will be close to 100 games released for the PS3. - inactive, on 10/19/2007, -0/+2...except you're looking at the initial price tag, not cost over time.
When all is said and done and you buy a 360 with all the extra stuff that doesn't come with JUST the console, you will spend just as much as you would had you purchased a PS3.
Remember how live charges you $49 a year? Or when you feel the need to buy an HD player and realize it's an extra $200. Maybe you'll run out of room on the HD and need a bigger one - well, there's the MS drive which is some ungodly amount.
Who knows, maybe they'll come out with the super-elite version with a 300 GB drive and the HD player built in with an HDMI port - you'll feel compelled, if even for a second, to purchase one.
That's how MS marketing works.
Trust me, people who own 360 or a Wii bitch constantly about the PS3 price, but don't consider that they really have spent just as much, if not more.
Even if it were more expensive, you also have to realize that you're already dropping $400+ on a console. You got the 360 and Wii loaded up with tons of games, but suddenly you're too poor for a PS3? Yeah, okay. - rix0r, on 10/19/2007, -1/+3Sony, are you looking at this? This is why you should have released the PS3 at the price it is at now. People wanted the PS3 but it was too expensive.
They also want the currrent SKU, not your new gimped one without backwards compatibility, less USB ports and no memory card readers. When stock of this SKU runs out, you'll see exactly the same sales as before.
Stop being retarded! - TellarHK, on 10/19/2007, -0/+2Stores -won't- be able to get the 60 gig model anymore,. they discontinued production weeks (or months!) ago. And smacksaw's dead on with his point - I bought my 60 gig PS3 two weeks ago for exactly those reasons that you call idiocy. I can drop in a hard drive and make it -better- than the 80 gig model that's out now. Why? Backwards compatibility in hardware.
The 80 gig has it in software, which isn't perfect, and the 40 gig coming up doesn't have it - period. And it's lacking 2 USB ports, and memory card slots. 60 gigs will last a long time on a PS3, and since I can upgrade it with flash memory or even replace the hard drive, it's a hell of a better deal to spend the hundred bucks on features instead of 20 gigs of space. Hell, I dropped a 4 gig CompactFlash card in mine already. - HBNDonut, on 10/20/2007, -17/+19Yet, I still dont know anyone who has one...
- Dracusis, on 10/19/2007, -0/+2What exactly are you waiting for?
Like evryone who claims the PS3 has no games, you fail to mention which games they don't have. - pimpinaintez, on 10/19/2007, -0/+2Oh yeah becuase Amazon will still have (960%) right now? Doesn't the amazon site change?Wasnt the digg about a specific sale percentage. How about you not be a jerk?
- pimpinaintez, on 10/19/2007, -0/+2Actually, if you did go to the "realtime" site you would have noticed that it changes whereas the site has screenshots when it hit those times....
- pimpinaintez, on 10/19/2007, -0/+2Toropee, if you did go to the "realtime" site you would have noticed that it changes whereas the site has screenshots when it hit those numbers. The Amazon site is also listed
- SuckMyDigg, on 10/20/2007, -0/+1Every game that may or may not have been created that isn't on the shelf?
- pimpinaintez, on 10/19/2007, -0/+1I wont deny it but its still ridiculous to bash one to justify your purchase. I think that's called being insecure
- TellarHK, on 10/19/2007, -2/+3It is all about the games, in one way or another, which is a good reason why I bought my PS3... without any games. Still don't own a single game for it. Blu-Ray movies? Yep, got a couple. But no games. There's no point whatsoever to them at this juncture. I have a 360, and a Wii, and a 1080p TV. I'm pretty much set no matter how you cut it, and the majority of my games are probably going to be on the 360.
Now, Rock Band? PS3. - inactive, on 10/19/2007, -4/+5I buried you for idiocy.
Do you honestly think that many people actually realise the hard drive is user-replaceable and what about if you want Motorstorm? It's one of the system's best games.
The 60GB are sold out when you go to Target because they are discontinued! It will be much harder for a store to get stock of that model than the current one. - CDRaff, on 10/23/2007, -0/+1Exclusives, that is it. Every game that looks good on the PS3 I can already get on my Xbox 360.
- pimpinaintez, on 10/19/2007, -0/+1How do you figure? The HD/DVD has no where NEAR the studio support than bluray. it even lacks almost 10/1 in sales
- KrustyTClown, on 10/19/2007, -1/+2I don't think Smacksaw understands the concept of stock replenishment. When target sells a PS3, they replace the empty shelf space with a new one. Do you really think its the same box every time that you go in to Target?
- sHockz, on 10/19/2007, -1/+2or you can use it to run linux and act as a server for media and hacking.
- Koldkompress, on 10/19/2007, -0/+1*****
- marnaq, on 10/19/2007, -2/+3I think the number of increase stories increases proportionally with the increase of sales.
- inactive, on 10/19/2007, -5/+6WRONG= 80 gig PS3 up 890% in Sales!
CORRECT = 80 gig PS3 up 890% in Sales Ranking on Amazon! - TjLAXattack, on 10/19/2007, -0/+1Is that just online sales or retailers or both?
- enronias, on 10/20/2007, -17/+18I wonder how many "PS3 sales increase X%" stories can get posted to digg per week. Seems kind of repetitive and pointless to me.
