- Azimuth1, on 08/05/2008, -23/+1091. 2K "had no plans" for a PS3 version of Bioshock. FFXIII was repeatedly "confirmed" as an exclusive.
2. Image dumps have shown that Metal Gear Solid 4 is only 30GB in size. That includes Metal Gear Online.
3. If Konami decided it wanted the millions of Dollars it would make from a 360 version of the game, this wouldn't stop them.
4. Sony doesn't pay for exclusives. Also, this argument could've been made for why FFXIII would never be ported. More so in that case in fact, given that Sony owns stock in Square Enix.
5. MGS1 and MGS2 were on the PC. MGS2 was also on the Xbox. Twin Snakes was a Gamecube exclusive. It wouldn't be unprecedented. - quomen, on 08/05/2008, -17/+76This article might as well have talked about why a giraffe will never be a window.
- CtznBomberman, on 08/05/2008, -8/+47Good. Now look at the second page.
- CtznBomberman, on 08/05/2008, -4/+35Only if it then talked about why a giraffe WILL be a window.
- tendonut, on 08/06/2008, -6/+30As if that won't stop the PS3 fanboys. I swear, people who are so incredibly pro-blu-ray in gaming all think that swapping discs once every 15 hours is the end of the world and extremely obstructive.
- reconflux, on 08/06/2008, -3/+26The only reason it will: Money.
- navster15, on 08/06/2008, -4/+26No, but it can fit on four DVDs. Considering that Lost Odyssey sold pretty well on four discs and MGS4 is naturally broken up into a mission structure that is ideal for DVD swapping, this would not be a big deal.
Disclaimer: I purchased a PS3 to play Metal Gear Solid 4. I also seem to be the only PS3 owner to not be upset over the prospect of the game going over to the 360. I guess that makes me a n00b. :( - seavers, on 08/06/2008, -9/+30They could just make you swap discs between chapters.
- MCA2142, on 08/06/2008, -3/+22Your business mind is fit to run Yahoo.
And no, that wasn't a compliment. - inactive, on 08/06/2008, -4/+21How the ***** can you get up and change a disc when the weight of 30 donuts and 12 cokes is weighing you down?
- decker12, on 08/06/2008, -2/+18Dugg only because they added this caption: "Finally, a chance to play Metal Gear Online with the millions of friendly racists and homophobes on Xbox Live". HA!
- viewdrix, on 08/06/2008, -1/+17If only the guy who wrote the headline of the Digg story did that, too.
- Scotty87, on 08/06/2008, -2/+17Man I'm sick and ***** tired of this fanboy arguments did you know in the world there's 3 type of people? 45% PS3 Fanboys , 45% 360 fanboys, 10% Other.
Their both great consoles - give it the ***** up! - damndj, on 08/06/2008, -10/+24Funny how people dogged the PS3 for having BluRay with calls of "Why do you need all that storage".
Now look at us, just a short time later, Microsoft's decision to shun higher storage media is really starting to bite them in the ass. Just look what Carmack said about "Rage".
And I didn't know MS charges a developer for every DVD that comes with a game. is this common practice? Unreal. - impyshaz, on 08/06/2008, -4/+18Why does everyone hate on this game so much. It is the ONLY game from this whole "next-gen" era that I've played that has actually had some things that are truly innovative, not to mention imaginative. Every other game I've played so far in this "next-gen" era is just the same damn game it was on PS2/Xbox but with shinier graphics.
"But... but the cutscenes are sooo long". Do people not realize you can skip them? I mean, I know 90% of the kids nowadays have 0 attention span, but this entire game is set-up like an epic movie complete with cinematic camera angles, music, and everything else you would expect from a summer blockbuster, the direction is AMAZING. The gameplay is bar-none the best I've ever played in any video game to date as well(disclaimer: this is an opinion and I'm entitled to it, just like you are entitled to yours). The amount of things I can do in the game astounds me. There are certain sections of the game I enjoy playing for fun just to see if I can do them better than I have before because they are challenging and fun.
If you don't like this game you either:
A) Didn't play it all the way through.
B) Played it on easy, or normal [This game doesn't get amazing until you're on hard, in my opinion]
C) Do not own a Ps3, or the game.
...but feel free to share your other thoughts and reasons why it is a bad game. I'd like to understand all the hatred and dislike for a genuinely good and fun game.
When I completed the game on "Big Boss Extreme" earning my Big Boss Seal it was akin to many other milestones I've had in my gaming career, from those 120 stars in Mario 64, to completing Halo 3 on Legendary. It's just good fun in a good game.
I am finding it harder and harder to believe that everyone thinks this game is garbage, and find it more likely that the majority of people are just pissed that it didn't come to the Xbox 360.
One final disclaimer: I own all the current systems as well as many others (360, Ps3, Wii, etc.) - Moskie, on 08/06/2008, -4/+17Sounds like you haven't actually played MGS4.
23 hours of cinematic crap sounds about right. - punkcat, on 08/06/2008, -2/+14yeah im sure they said, oh we made enough money, lets not try and make anymore.
- inactive, on 08/06/2008, -11/+2280 Gigs wasn't enough for Kojimas vision...............seriously dude.....must be the 70 gigs of worthless cinematic content...
- HouseofEl, on 08/06/2008, -1/+12I own a 360 and don't have a preference over either console, but was anyone really expecting it to come to the 360 anyway?
- DarkStar3333, on 08/06/2008, -3/+13The entire 2nd page could have been summerized in 5 letters: Money.
Given enough money anything is possible.
Bottom line is that Konomi only cares about Konomi. Business is about making money, not friends. - kingmanic, on 08/06/2008, -0/+8Carmack recently complained about media disk size on the 360, stating rage won't LOOK as good on the 360. They use mega textures to define each level.
- FredFredrickson, on 08/06/2008, -8/+15The only limitation is the amount of data that can be stored on DVD's. The rest of the hardware is more than up to spec. What does the PS3 have in terms of hardware, barring the Blue-Ray drive, that the 360 doesn't?
- theaceoffire, on 08/06/2008, -0/+7Remember when the 360 came out?
Microsoft dropped the Xbox like a Rock.
No new games, no updates, no backwards compatibility, and all stores had their stock liquidated to get ready for the new system.
I am not looking forward to that. - protogenxl, on 08/06/2008, -3/+10Less MGS4 talk more Z.O.E. 3 talk please
- protogenxl, on 08/06/2008, -1/+8No Old Skool
- scooterbaga, on 08/06/2008, -8/+15Now that the 360 will soon have the option to 'install' games, multiple disc releases shouldn't be that big of a deal. Core users can still get the job done, and those with a HD can play without any disc swapping. Sounds all good to me.
...as long as disc 1 is enough to let sit in the tray for the copy protection crap. - MasterGrief, on 08/06/2008, -1/+8In after the idiot who can't spell.
- inactive, on 08/06/2008, -3/+10Those are 1st and 2nd party.
- mlvassallo, on 08/06/2008, -3/+10Games Radar is incessantly bad.
- kingmanic, on 08/06/2008, -0/+6Tendonut: you have to work out how to do things. The Cell is different then the Xenon. The strategy with with using the uncompressed audio and installs is to increase the data bandwidth. So you have audio flowing freely from the drive while the texturs, models, and other data flow from the HD. Greatly reducing bottle necks. It frees up the single slim PPC on the cell and the 6 SPU's to help the framerate and keep the game from chugging. The 360 has an easier time at keeping a good frame rate due to it's GPU having a novel "unified" shader architecture which has individually slower shaders but it means it's much easier keeping it busy because your not waiting for one set to finish before the next. That said the RSX is theoretically better then the Xenos but needs a lot of hand optimizations and hints to get the same frame rate at higher quality. A good PS3 compiler/engine may fix the need for hand optimization.
- kibbledbits, on 08/06/2008, -2/+8I would cite the cell processor and the physical architecture of the PS3 as the main strengths that if apps are written right, would expose the 360.
Don't forget that the 360 didn't have a hard drive standard on some models and that has been a limitation for some developers (not being able to assume HDD is present) - JollyDumple, on 08/06/2008, -2/+8Have you spent ANY time playing it? Its actually really good. And you can skip the awesome cutscenes if you hate them so much.
- tendonut, on 08/06/2008, -1/+7@kingmanic
I was digging around for that and just discovered where he said that. Thanks - Thisisstupid, on 08/06/2008, -4/+10Is that a fact?
So high*er res textures and graphics DONT take up more space?!
OMG, someone should let all these game developer "no0bs" know... - supertom2, on 08/06/2008, -1/+7I would be quite happy if this came to the 360, the more people that play this game the better (this is coming from someone who only owns a ps3)
- wedges, on 08/06/2008, -2/+8its not the inconvenience of switching discs that makes developers not want to do it. it's the PER DISC licensing fees microsoft charges you to make a game on their system.
- wedges, on 08/06/2008, -0/+5it wouldn't clear up *****, because you can't make a game that requires an add-on that not everyone has. they can't require installs because not everyone has an HD, and they didn't make HDDVD required because not everyone had it, and they won't do it with a blu-ray add-on because almost nobody will own one. the HD-DVD drive only sold like 300,000, which is something like 15% of the 360 installed base.
- urgeigh, on 08/06/2008, -1/+6Damn I am so tired of reading fanboy arguments on digg. The comments under video game article piss me off more than political and music related articles and that's saying a lot. The same people who bought a PS3 would be arguing the exact opposite if they had chose to buy a 360 and vica versa. They are both good consoles, they both have qualities and downsides, just stop. Please. Sony does not give a flying ***** about you, neither does Microsoft. It's all about the Benjamins. You're just a number to them, stop acting loyal to multi-billion dollar corporations.
- Stemnin, on 08/06/2008, -1/+6Hence why consoles (exception the Wii I guess) are sold at a loss, the royalties make up for it.
- damndj, on 08/06/2008, -3/+8Don't forget Microsoft charges a developer more depending on how many disc's come with a game.
"According to Carmack, the royalty fees to include a third disc in the Xbox 360 version would be so high that it simply isn't a feasible solution, with the programmer hoping for Microsoft to make a concession. He stressed that the issue is merely a storage problem and has nothing to do with the power of the Xbox 360 hardware, while adding that the PlayStation 3's Blu-ray format is Sony's one leg up on the competition." - synergyo1, on 08/06/2008, -0/+5Why digg him down? This guy is correct. The disc must be in the tray as a security measure, as per the specifications stated by Microsoft.
- garlicdeath, on 08/06/2008, -4/+9Console fanboys are just so damn annoying.
- iWANTmySNback, on 08/06/2008, -3/+8"3. If Konami decided it wanted the millions of Dollars it would make from a 360 version of the game, this wouldn't stop them."
Yes, IF a corporation wanted millions of dollars.... but what company wants that. - snareguy17, on 08/06/2008, -7/+12The #2 reason is a joke of it being too big for Blu Ray. I own a PS3, and it was just completely uncompressed files to gloat about how massive the game is. And by massive, I mean filled with cutscenes.
- kingmanic, on 08/06/2008, -1/+6The cutscenes are in engine so it's not 1080p video it's textures, sound mixes, and models.
- UndeadZmobie, on 08/06/2008, -1/+6That's not so far-fetched for the Metal Gear Solid series...
- inactive, on 08/06/2008, -0/+5"Much of the information on the BR Disc is constantly replicated in multiple spots because of the terrible BRD read drive speeds"
False
- PS3s bluray drive is 1.5 megabytes per second FASTER than 360s DVD drive
- Copying data on bluray DOES NOT speed up load times since the data transfer rate is the same everywhere on the disc. As opposed to DVD which gets slower the closer the data is to the center of the disc, and even slower on dual layered discs.
And before you bring up Oblivion using that method, Bethesda DENIED that rumor ages ago for the reasons I stated above.
If this game was put on DVD, much of the data would need to be duplicated. For example, the Solid Snake model would need to be on every disc. So it would take MORE than 50GB/7.5GB discs. - kingmanic, on 08/06/2008, -1/+5It's not technical reason stopping this. It's MS policy to maintain support for the 5-10% of 360 users who don't have an HD.
- dandonia, on 08/06/2008, -0/+4"bit of RECENT history"
What do you class as recent? That was a console generation ago. Things change. - theaceoffire, on 08/06/2008, -1/+5Its out, its fun. Rent it some time.
