- dkraneveldt, on 10/15/2007, -1/+53i really can't believe these games sold so badly. They are both so amazing.
- loganhid, on 10/15/2007, -7/+460: 2 of the Best and most epic games ever made
- Checkerd, on 10/15/2007, -0/+35FTA: "[SPOILERS] The baby in the same ending is controllable. You can press any of the face buttons to make him wiggle around and cry"
I would have never have thought to do this. When i finished the game the first time, I put the controller on the ground so i wouldn't accidentally skip the ending. - ElectricDoodie, on 10/15/2007, -1/+31Shadow of the Colossus is one of the best games I have played. The story is so simple, and only unfolds at the very end, yet it's so artistic and beautiful, that I can't stop playing. The entire game is played with almost no knowledge of the story, but it's such a powerful game.
- sampson123, on 10/15/2007, -0/+24From what I remember. Ico sold really poorly, but Shadow of the Colossus did much better.
- InfinitySnatch, on 10/15/2007, -0/+17Your words are as empty as your soul.
- felman87, on 10/15/2007, -2/+17When are we going to hear about this new game?
- bariswheel, on 10/15/2007, -0/+15I first heard of these games after watching the movie 'Reign on me'; I have to say they looked pretty good. I'd like to play them but I haven't owned a game console in years.
I think the reason these games didn't make it to the top is because they don't appeal to the high ADD gamer. Remember 'Out of this World'? One of the best games ever made, yet no one's even heard of it...quite baffling. - shinythingy, on 10/15/2007, -0/+11i can haz job now plz kthxbai
- markstory, on 10/15/2007, -0/+11I thought both of these games were amazing. Colossus was the better of the two for me, the colossi were just so huge and imposing they inspired awe, fear and a sense of pity. That creatures so large and benign had to be destroyed. And how cool is a game of all boss battles!
- staticneuron, on 10/15/2007, -0/+11Direction? You hold your sword up to the sky, follow where the beam points too (after it merges into one solid beam) find collosi , find ways to beat them, some were challenging but not that hard. If it was spelled out for you then what would be the point of playing?
- Myonosken, on 10/15/2007, -0/+11It didn't run well? I never saw any problems.
- inactive, on 10/14/2007, -1/+11One of the best game I've played.
- robotfuel, on 10/16/2007, -0/+9God, I loved Out of This World. And Flashback. Two of the greatest games ***** ever.
- GTanaka, on 10/15/2007, -1/+10your e-penis has grown 3 cm.
- robotfuel, on 10/15/2007, -0/+9ICO and Shadow easily are two of the best games ever made. I love them both and hope Fumito Ueda gets to make whatever the hell he wants to from now on.
- InfinitySnatch, on 10/14/2007, -1/+8"22. [SPOILERS] Fumito Ueda's own interpretation of ICO's ending is that Ico is dreaming of meeting Yorda once again."
What!? That means Yorda really did die in the castle? OK, this game just went from having the best feel-good ending ever to the most heart-wrenching I've ever seen. I'm off to go cry now.
Is this canon!? - winterorange, on 10/15/2007, -0/+7I'm impressed this article made it to a top 10 digg...just goes to show how many hardcore fans these games have.
- Naught, on 10/15/2007, -0/+6I know, it makes me sad too, but the thing about fumito is that he uses the word "interpret" and has said he doesn't want to tell people what to believe about what happened. It's intentionally interpretable which means no answer is right or wrong, therefore I choose to believe they were reunited, because i'm a pussywillow.
- AgarwaenUmarth, on 10/15/2007, -1/+7Okay.
- statrick, on 10/15/2007, -0/+6i'll digg anything about ICO.
- nooreazy, on 10/15/2007, -1/+7"50. Fumito Ueda's job application letter to Sony included a picture of a cat"
- commitone, on 10/15/2007, -0/+5These games set a new standard for me on adventure games. The puzzles were intelligent and intuitive. His next game would be the reason I would consider buying the PS3.
- dudefather, on 10/15/2007, -0/+4What is a man? a miserable pile of secrets!
- Asianwaste, on 10/16/2007, -0/+4I remember that game. Out of This World was a game that was made for gamers with a lot of patience and understanding. On a first look and try, the controls and graphics will piss you off. But once you get immersed in the story and the world it put you in, it really is a good. game.
Also I couldn't take Adam Sandler all that seriously in Reign Over Me... I think he did his role alright, however you can almost put anyone else in the helm of that role and the dramatic effect of his character would be exponential. - navitatl, on 10/15/2007, -0/+4I'm in my late 70s. I beat my little "incontinence" problem.
- Ytse, on 10/16/2007, -0/+4Out of This World scared the freaking crap out of me when it came out. Granted, I was 8 or 10 or so, but I could not play it. I never got past the first level because those little snake/snail things kept killing me. It was that "death scene" (where you see its poisoned tip fly back and cut his knee) that scared me so much. Haha!
But a few years ago I downloaded the ROM and got pretty far in it. Really cool game!
/end tangent - Aokubidaikon, on 10/16/2007, -0/+3If you liked Out of this World / Another World then I can definitely recommend picking up a secondhand PS2 and a re-released copy of Ico.
- ScionX, on 10/14/2007, -0/+3Obviously you cared enough to read the article & then post.
- RdHrd138, on 10/14/2007, -2/+4I loved Shadow of the Colossus, even though controls were hard to get use to and it didn't run very well on the PS2 hardware, there was something that was thoroughly epic, yet so simple about it. I definitely recommend it to any gamer that still has a PS2.
- InfinitySnatch, on 10/14/2007, -0/+2What are you, 7?
- spawnfree, on 10/15/2007, -1/+3only another three years to wait.
- AgarwaenUmarth, on 10/14/2007, -0/+2Crap. I meant to digg you.
- tsinder, on 10/15/2007, -0/+2"you can see the ending coming a mile off"
That's part of the point. Keep in mind that, in a real sense, you're playing the bad guy. You're killing creatures that want to be left alone for your own gain. There's a strong element of fatalism in the game. Once you start on the path, you can't get off it. This is why Wander grows darker and more deformed, yet also more powerful, with each colossus he kills. [SPOILER] It's also why the ending is interactive, yet the outcome is certain. You can hold on for a while, but you will eventually be sucked into the whirlpool. In a sense, you know the outcome from the very start, but that doesn't lessen its effect. - AgarwaenUmarth, on 10/15/2007, -0/+2Um...not platformers?
- inactive, on 10/14/2007, -0/+2Check out the Gametrailers.com HD review. Its awesome.
http://www.gametrailers.com/player/8135.html - apoc06, on 10/15/2007, -0/+1the controls were superb now that i look back. im such an expert gamer that if you gave me a tightly controlled character, i could have run through SotC in an hour [not literally]. the controls were kinda loose, and made the game feel authentic. the protagonist was not some superhumanly enhanced soldier; it was apparent that he had nearly no combat experience at all, so those moments of losing my footing, or misfired arrows missing their mark, or losing my grip from a cliff or a flying colossus kept you in that characters shoes. it was a struggle for him, and therefore a struggle for me too.
the fact that the horse had its own mind, and all you did was "suggest" where you wanted it to go made it feel like a real animal and therefore something you cared about and not just the usual soulless horse that could be interchanged with a car texture or something. - apoc06, on 10/15/2007, -0/+1the fact that the ending and meanings behind certain aspects of the games are open to interpretation is something that pushes these games into the realm of art, in my humble opinion.
- inactive, on 10/14/2007, -0/+1I thought it was awesome that shadow was a prequel to Ico.
- MistyEstelle, on 10/15/2007, -0/+1I was also suprised to see that. I guess these games are better known than I realized!
- ernasty10050, on 10/14/2007, -0/+1Probably mid-30s.
- bigmuffpi, on 05/20/2008, -0/+1anyone have a working link? I remember looking at this a long time ago..
- squaremachine, on 10/14/2007, -0/+1had not heard of this game until I watched Adam Sandler's "Reign over Me" last night. Looks like an awesome game
- cam503, on 10/14/2007, -0/+1Adam Sandler plays that ***** obsessively in Reign Over Me. A little slow, but not a bad movie on the whole.
- apoc06, on 10/15/2007, -0/+1if he thought they were simply "platformers", its apparent that he hasnt played either.
- MistyEstelle, on 10/14/2007, -0/+0Very good points. You feel as if you have control over things, yet really you know that you do not and the outcome will be the same.
- inactive, on 10/14/2007, -1/+1Ha, I dugg you down cuz you didn't d-d-d-d-d-double dare me!
- folsomfella, on 10/15/2007, -0/+0SotC is the best game of all time, IMO
- MistyEstelle, on 10/14/2007, -0/+0Shadow of Colossus actually did fairly well from what I recall, but Ico sold fairly badly. I guess, the same reason Psychonauts didn't do so hot despite being a pretty cool and innovative game?
- GiggleStick, on 10/15/2007, -2/+11) What they are.
