- hadiz, on 11/04/2007, -25/+117Probably because they don't need the extra ventilation, because there are less components. And I don't even know what the hell a Super Audio CD is, nor do I care because I'll never use it.
- etgoboom, on 11/02/2007, -7/+85They took out air vents AND "super Audion CD' o no. I bought my ps3 mainly for those features
- spoiled1, on 10/30/2007, -6/+62How many people use SACDs ?
- evozero, on 11/01/2007, -10/+65it's a cheaper model, what did people expect? still a good value, especially one of those 100 million or so ps2 owners who want to play ps3 games/blu ray movies. as a counterpoint, it has been reported that this unit runs quieter, weighs less and uses less energy than other ps3s.
- Error601, on 10/31/2007, -14/+55Super Audio CD is an attempt to get DRM into audio disks.
- roxya, on 11/01/2007, -7/+47Odd to say it has less ventilation because it has less holes. I can take the sides off my PC case to give it 'more ventilation', but my CPU will run far hotter than it ever has before.
- mywhitenoise, on 10/30/2007, -7/+40Oh my god, people praise HDMI and the next-gen movie formats...you don't think those have DRM? SACDs usually have two layers (one is standard CD) that is easily copied.
Also SACD is hi-def audio, and most albums in that format are in 5.1. It's too bad nobody makes albums in SACD, or DVD-A anymore. - MxM111, on 10/30/2007, -1/+28Good point. The airflow management is also important! By removing some holes they may create better airflow.
- SkippyDoorknob, on 10/30/2007, -3/+25It can only play Metal Gear Firm
- quomen, on 10/30/2007, -6/+28You already have a ps3... why does it suck?
- sourwood, on 10/30/2007, -6/+27Just as long as the thing plays Metal Gear Solid...
- wageslaven, on 10/30/2007, -17/+37They also removed the media-card reader...
- Brian48216, on 10/30/2007, -8/+27that actually sorta sucks. I use my media card reader all the time.
- afx1, on 11/04/2007, -10/+29not really because you do in fact use blu ray.
- spoiled1, on 10/30/2007, -3/+21You can connect a USB card reader, a USB hub to compensate for your terrible loss.
- inactive, on 10/30/2007, -7/+24Why does everyone think 65nm chips solve everything? You still need ventilation in the system! Its not like the chips can run at no heat if they are 65nm.
- inactive, on 10/30/2007, -1/+16I'd buy it just because it's cheap and I already have a modded PS2 for my PS2 library, plus I only want a PS3 for MGS4.
- scotthew1, on 10/30/2007, -4/+18mine hardly ever gets hot
what'd you do put duct tape on the ventilation holes? - shinythingy, on 10/30/2007, -3/+17Not really
- AuburnTigers, on 10/30/2007, -5/+18Are you kidding? That extra 200 dollars is well worth the Super Audio CD playback alone! = D
- chadwn, on 10/30/2007, -4/+17no one is saying NO HEAT is generated. There is just less heat generated from the smaller newer lower power technology. So they probably decided to put less vents, probably to help keep dust out.
- staticneuron, on 10/31/2007, -4/+16umm.... they have the option...... buy the higher end sku.
Do you seriously think everything should be available for $400 bucks? People like to whine for no good reason nowadays. - logicalnoise, on 10/30/2007, -2/+14Super audio CD is a high def audio format with extremely high sample rates and multiple channels. It still outsells DVD-audio in most regions.
- codelogic, on 10/30/2007, -4/+16It's called marketing.
- Topher06, on 10/30/2007, -1/+12My PS3 has super audio CD support? Where do I buy a super audio CD?
- CapeKid, on 10/30/2007, -2/+13Woosh!
- BattleScars, on 10/30/2007, -5/+15Yeah. It's too bad card readers are so damn expensive. I mean $3 !!! What a ***** rip off!
- WhereAmI, on 10/30/2007, -2/+12One word:
Warranty - BattleScars, on 10/30/2007, -2/+12With the heat from a 360 you could probably cook a 3 course roast turkey dinner with all the trimmings....from 10ft away.
- VerveX, on 10/30/2007, -2/+12SACD was a very high quality CD format that died the death of unnecessary technology along with DVD-audio.
Worrying about whether the PS3 has SACD support is like worrying about the fact that your car didn't come with a parachute.
Circle - sowhat5828, on 10/30/2007, -1/+11You fail to see that he said to keep the BRay
- SkippyDoorknob, on 10/30/2007, -2/+12You going to check it again later and unbury the story if it's back up?
- Chandon, on 10/30/2007, -2/+12If the new PS3 uses less power, that means it dissipates less heat. If it dissipates less heat, that means it needs less vents. If it needs less vents, then having less vents isn't a problem.
- chadwn, on 10/31/2007, -6/+15you are wrong. It makes very good sense that the units contain the 65nm Cell processor.
http://www.engadget.com/2007/03/13/ibm-begins-prod ... - quomen, on 10/30/2007, -4/+13On a side note, white ps3s are sexy.
- themastersb, on 10/30/2007, -1/+10What's a super audio cd?
- timfitz99, on 10/30/2007, -1/+9On the flip side, isn't it a little ironic that Sony makes a white PS3 as their "cool, alternative" model, while MS makes a black 360 as their "cool, alternative model"?
Luckily I have the black 360 to match my black PS3.
Now you could the white 360, white PS3, and the Wii to have a beautiful, complete matched set. - shifty2, on 10/30/2007, -2/+10people who own Dremel's don't know the meaning of or have the mental capacity to comprehend the term "warranty"
we are a different breed of humans - gwolf, on 10/30/2007, -3/+11You must enjoy paying your electric bill. Maybe someone should study how much folding at home is costing in green house gasses?
- BattleScars, on 10/30/2007, -6/+14Ridiculous perhaps but you're in a tiny minority. Allegedly, fewer than 2% of PS3s are faulty. Contrast that with Microsoft's infamous 30-40%.
- shifty2, on 10/30/2007, -1/+8since sony does not have to pay for licensing on SACD's this is why they can drop the price.
I, myself don't use SACD's nor do i know anyone who uses them, so this is good news especially for the price drop. - joltjake, on 10/30/2007, -2/+9who gives a *****?
- mywhitenoise, on 10/30/2007, -4/+11what the ***** is HDCP then?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hdcp - inactive, on 10/30/2007, -2/+8I guess they figured it out finally - people want to play GAMES... not buy it for its "super audio CD capability". Nintendo got it right. Quit trying to be everything to everybody. Im surprised the thing doesnt make coffee too.
- kyelewis, on 10/30/2007, -1/+7mywhitenoise, It's a method to add DRM to video that travels over a HDMI connection. Like sending someone an encrypted email- doesn't make SMTP, POP or IMAP an inherently encrypted service, just means they added an extra layer of 'security'.
- codelogic, on 10/31/2007, -2/+8There's more to ventilation than drilling some holes on the side.
- Ajajadude, on 10/30/2007, -3/+9Black electrical tape. I hear it makes it look cooler.
- inactive, on 10/30/2007, -0/+6"will have"
WTF? This thing has been on sale for weeks, why are you saying "Will have" when it is already out there? - dungbeetle, on 10/30/2007, -1/+7They're a huge hit at the Restaurant at the Edge of the Universe.
- Shaflugi, on 10/30/2007, -3/+9It's not a bad idea, though. Maybe I should do that with my 360.
