- mokkos, on 10/10/2007, -7/+49uh-oh, semi-good news for the PS3 on Digg. prepare to get buried...
- plastek, on 10/10/2007, -8/+49I'm going to pick up a copy in about 28 minutes when I get off work.
The beta was great, I could care less what the reviews say, I played the game, and I liked it. - evozero, on 10/10/2007, -4/+40IGN just gave it 8.8. Editor's Choice Award. "AAA"
- coheedcollapse, on 10/10/2007, -10/+35I agree completely. This is Digg's mentality. The same way that they still see the PSP as inferior because it had very few good games early on even though presently in game quality it's superior, Warhawk (and possibly even the PS3 system) will always be seen as superior on Digg because apparently first impressions are the kicker here.
- djSyndrome, on 10/10/2007, -2/+26RTFA. It was reviewed by 1UP.com, which last I checked (mostly) evenly covered all platforms.
- cockmaster, on 10/10/2007, -6/+27yes
- mywhitenoise, on 10/10/2007, -4/+22*$500, not exactly ludicrous for what you're getting, especially with 5 free blu-ray movies.
It's actually $350 if you buy it off of Sony Style with their card. - mywhitenoise, on 10/10/2007, -15/+32That's even more true with the PS3. It has just as many "good" (I still don't think there's anything out there that justifies MSRP) games out there as the 360.
But everyone is so set on beating it up because it launched at $600, and so many false rumors made headlines before it was released.
Remember how blu-ray games wouldnt be able to play on other consoles, that you wouldn't be able to buy used games. That you HAD to have an HDTV to play games on it. That games would cost $100. Among many other things. Every time one of these articles hit digg there'd be "one more nail in the coffin for the PS3" comments. And when it came out, all that ***** was false, but people still remembered they hated the PS3 for a reason, they just couldn't remember why. - Toshers, on 10/10/2007, -3/+18... You mean too much bias? All reviews are opinion-based >.>
- coheedcollapse, on 10/10/2007, -7/+22Wipeout Pure, Lumines, Grand Theft Auto (both of them), Burnout Legends, Jeanne d' Arc, Syphon Filter, LocoRoco, Tales of Eternia, Metal Gear, Lumines, and a ***** of other games prove otherwise.
I've had both the PSP and the DS since launch. My PSP not only gets more gameplay total (with all of the cool homebrew that saved me before a bunch of good games came out), but it also gets more gameplay with purchased titles.
Also not to be a rating's whore (but I know Digg users love ratings), the PSP has almost 50 games over 80 percent on metacritic, while the Nintendo DS has 40. - VitoRaliffe, on 10/10/2007, -2/+17I thought the Warhawk Beta was fun as hell. I'll be downloading my copy in a couple of days
- coheedcollapse, on 10/10/2007, -6/+20Bad defense considering like five of the top 10 games on the DS are rehashes as well. Oh yeah, and about the Wii.....
You need to reformulate your argument. - cockmaster, on 10/10/2007, -3/+16im sorry you have your head up your ass...especially for a failure that never played the game.
it looks fine. - mywhitenoise, on 10/10/2007, -6/+177 out of 10 of those are on the PS3. Another 2 are on PC. That leaves 1 exclusive which I don't really care for.
- tehpwnrate, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11About 28 minutes? So like 28 minutes ± 10 seconds? Anyway, (coming from an Xbox fanboy), I agree with you. Reviews are dumb--play what you like.
- samdu, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8You do realize that the current $500 model is the exact same "real thing" you referred to in your first sentence, right?
- piper999, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8He wasn't being sarcastic. He was just being a dick.
- mywhitenoise, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Well it was on the PSN at 9:01 last night, and I saw it an EB today. I didn't buy it, i'm still undecided.
- Lewisham, on 10/10/2007, -5/+12You can't include too much opinion in a review.
A review is entirely opinion. The only people who seem to think that they are concrete and definitive rankings from on high are fanboys looking for some petrol to fan the flames. - jacksons98, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8The reason it got a low score is because the person running is the ex-editor of the Official Xbox magazine. PSM is also owned by the same company as the Official Xbox Magazine. After the Warhawk and Lair review and some of the comments coming from PSM they are losing subscribers in droves.
- Ajajadude, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7That's why they call it Warhawk.
- mywhitenoise, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8What's the other one? I know Bioshock is one of them, is the other Mass Effect?
Ratchet and Clank, and Uncharted will be great, but I doubt they'll be "GOTY games". You have a point there. - mywhitenoise, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Why'd you throw in the warhawk one, when play hasn't rated it yet?
Maybe they just like those games. Not everyone is going to hate Lair, not everyone is going to love it either. - exomni, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7BioShock is in the top 5 reviewed games OF ALL TIME.
I'd hardly expect what was expected to be a decent, fun, solid online shooter to ever be able to beat that. - mywhitenoise, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8What the ***** are you talking about? And why do you always make 4 word responses?
- bigbadgoat, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6incredibly, that came out last year.
- mywhitenoise, on 10/10/2007, -37/+41Don't you know? The handful of good reviews can't make up for the one mediocre review it received. Heavenly Sword a 7.5? Lair a 3/5? And Warhawk got a 7? They're all doomed! Forget all the other 9/10 reviews those games got.
- b3owulf, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5This game is sooo much fun. I was foolish enough to download it right after midnight, and then stay up too late getting my ass kicked.
- coheedcollapse, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Yeah. People who have played the game thoroughly can see the positive points of all vehicles. While the warhawk is easy to kill, it's fast as hell and you can easily lose missles if you know how to react and do it quickly. Tanks are slow as hell and it's hard to aim at warhawks with them, so while it takes forever to kill a tank with a warhawk, it can be easy if the driver doesn't know how to aim well. Ground units are weak, but can't be killed immediately by a warhawk. That gives them time to react with a Rocket Launcher if they have one. Jeeps are incredibly fast ground units (good for carrying the flag in CTF), but also quite easy to destroy.
Balance is what the units are all about. - zetsurin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Mate, that's the most perfect summation of what has been going on here on Digg. Don't forget the blind hatred of Sony about rootkits while the same people go funding Microsoft - a company that is currently bribing and bullying their way into any market they please, often at the expense of consumers. Lovely.
- panzergeist, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Maybe. Depends upon what review you're talking about.
a. Which system has popularity and has been out longer, is cheaper short term, has more games out right now.
b. Which system is more reliable, is cheaper long term, and has gotten more good games in the same period of time that it's competition had.
I own both. Hell, I even got an Elite to try to get around the system's reliability issues. The 360 is a great game system, and so is the PS3. Both have their positives and negatives. You can play the next-gen games for less initial outlay in money with the 360, but you risk having no system to play on for a month at a time. You'll also have to pay more in the long run. That's the way Microsoft sells everything. Cheap to get into, expensive to keep going with it. But just inexpensive enough that you don't really notice all at once.
The PS3 is a fun system with some good games that will cost you at least $100 more initially. You don't get a choice to have a cheaper version with less features, so for many gamers it appears as though they "don't have any choice" or "are having technology shoved down their throat". This is just another way of saying that they're not happy with the additional cost they would need to pay just to get started. If the PS3 cost less than the competition in initial outlay of money, yet still included all the features it does now (Blu-Ray drive and wifi seem to be the biggest benefits/offenders), you would have to hate Sony as a company to dislike the PS3.
If the PS3 cost less, the reviews would get higher scores, gamers would be more forgiving of faults, it would have a much larger install base and more games would be made for it in an even shorter period of time. It all goes back to the initial cost of the system and the perceived value of a gaming system for that cost. But to say that the PS3 sucks, doesn't have any games, can't match or beat the performance of the 360 (which goes against what developers who don't even work for Sony have said, and what the specifications would say about the system from the PC world) is false.
I know 360 fans don't want to read this, but the PS3 is a more powerful system and has a greater capability for games. Whether we as gamers will ever see that capability utilized by developers depends solely upon how much money Sony is willing to dump into it and/or how many gamers buy into the system. The technology is there, the potential is certainly there, but the user base currently needed for the EA's of the world to make games that take advantage of that is not. You, 360 fanboys, will most certainly see a self-fulfilling prophecy if the user base stalls for the PS3. It will never achieve it's potential as a gaming console without gamers buying the system. If the user base happens, you'll see the games that show just how useful all that "needless" technology such as Blu-ray do matter. - acurism, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3and the 360 has been out a year longer. Other than the lazy developers(EA-I am looking at you) many of the games for the PS3 are "at least equal" at this point of the consoles life span in comparison to the 360. And in the US, the PS3 won't be a year old until November.
With Uncharted and Ratchet and Clank still coming out this year, I seriously think one of those games can match Bioshock for GOTY. - coheedcollapse, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Yeah sorry. I wanted to go back and change that. I was talking to my girlfriend while formulating the description and I got my words all mixed up.
- jacksons98, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Bioshock isn't Multiplayer either
- coheedcollapse, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Just because I like my PS3 doesn't mean I'm a fanboy. I own a Wii and I plan on getting a 360 as soon as all of these heating problems are totally ironed out. Look in my past comments -I've even defended the 360 on a few occasions.
- ericrous, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I would encourage anyone to ignore the "5 free movies" promotion. I bought one at Amazon right after the price drop and got my five free movies the other day. What they don't tell you is that they reserve the right to substitute movies. Instead of sending me "Blazing Saddles," they send me the Ashton Kutcher/Keving Kostner turdfest "The Guardian."
- IVIrMP3, on 10/10/2007, -8/+10Where have you been? The PS3 dropped to $500
Anyways it's not a fair comparison--you would need an XBOX 360 ($349) + Wireless adapter($99) + HD DVD player ($179), and it still cost more than the PS3 at Launch. - coheedcollapse, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Yeah sorry about that. I was writing the description while trying to hold a conversation with my girlfriend at the same time. Apparently those two things don't mix. I meant "bias".
- bilbravo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2http://www.sonystyle.com, then click on the image in the lower-right hand corner (link is very long, so i didn't paste it). If you don't get pre-approved, it'll take like 2 weeks to get the card--but I think you have until November to make your purchase. Also, you can make your first purchase at the website OR at a Sony store--so you wouldn't have to pay shipping if you live close to one.
Edit: Actually when I visited the site today it said free shipping on everything until Thursday. - mywhitenoise, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Let me put it in easier words. The 60GB model is $500 now!
- panzergeist, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Yep.
- Asianwaste, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Citizen Kane is regarded as the best movie ever made. Having seen the movie I guess it's not worth seeing any other movie because I'll just be sorely disappointed that it is not as critically acclaimed as Citizen Kane.
- panzergeist, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2@grumble
I'm beginning to believe that reviewers are taking the cost of the PS3 into consideration for every game that comes out for it. Games that really should not have been reviewed as harshly as they were (such as Dark Horizons, for example), got dinged for faults that every other game has, yet it's more glaring because the PS3 costs more to purchase. It's as if the reviewers assume that no one has a PS3 and that each game is the game that has to prove the PS3 is worth owning. Then again, many 360 owners would agree with that, but that sort of reasoning doesn't show that most of those 7s and 8s would more than likely be a full point higher, and therefor just as good as the 360 games if they were released on the 360, and it's solely because of the price of the system.
That's all conjecture, but it's also very likely. - Asianwaste, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Take what?
- mywhitenoise, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I'm in NorCal as well, Sacramento region. Maybe it was just that specific store.
Gamestop and EB suck though, im sure you can find it at a Circuit City or a Target. - smackhero, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Killzone: Liberation is not a rehash, unless you consider all mario games rehashes, nor are Dragon Ball Z Shin Budokai/Another Road, Bomberman, Tenchu Time of the Assassins, SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Fireteam Bravo, G.R.A.W. 2--which is actually a bridge bewteen the console sequels just as Killzone: Liberation, splinter cell: dark mirror, metal gear acid, Twisted Metal: Head-On--which was released to the PS2 after it was released to PSP, Ace Combat X: Skies of Deception, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Essentials, Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops, etc. i can go on forever.

PS3 still has a long way to go till it has as many good games as the XBox360, that of course isn't a reason to bash it, since it came a year later. - BobsYourUncle, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1$350? Sounds intriguing... Link?
- CReyes4182, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I wish I would have gotten the psp slim instead only because of the video output. But there are lots of good games on the psp. And many more good ones are coming out such as God of War and Crisis Core :D
- MatttK, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I think more people need to realise that varied opinion is good. When I check out the GameFAQs reviews (yeah yeah but sometimes they can be handy to see what actual people are saying, instead of paid reviewers who rely on demo copies from the people they're reviewing), I actually check out ranges. If there's a 1/10 and a 10/10, I'll read them both. I want to know WHY that person said it was 1/10. Maybe they're like me. Maybe the 10/10 guy loves everything I hate about games. It's when reviewers ALL collectively give a game high scores that I am most suspicious.
