- LexWalk, on 01/28/2009, -4/+25That may be one of the coolest uses of SecondLife I've heard so far. Bravo.
- NewTV, on 01/28/2009, -2/+17Holocaust survivors will not be along for much longer; technology and new media are not only an excellent way of sharing these tremendous human experiences, they are the very best way of preserving them, and making them attractive to future generations.
- squafro, on 01/28/2009, -1/+12I just want to say, before people start using this video to express their own irrelevant political views, that listening to the story of any Holocaust survivor is a powerful life experience. Or, at least it is one of the most memorable events in the first 19 years of my life.
Edit: i was between by helraizr... what a shame - skidork, on 01/28/2009, -4/+14Wow...She needs to spread her story, and this seems to be the perfect way to do it.
- kriticc, on 01/28/2009, -5/+14Youtube would have been a better outlet. Her SL audience, although varied, consisted mostly of:
- basement-dwelling adults living in their parents basement
- 40 something stay-at-home moms and dads looking for pixel sex
- men with women avatars
- men with child avatars
- griefers
Sorry for being negative. Johnny Storm says "FLAME ON!" - Cubedude04, on 01/28/2009, -2/+11How could you forget about Furries.
- tjefferson85, on 01/28/2009, -0/+9This is a great way to express and be relieved of the pain and suffering they must have endured! It can also be a help to others, who went through the same or similiar experiences!
- Digit01, on 01/28/2009, -1/+9Correct me if I'm wrong but is this the only holocaust in the world? I mean there are plenty more going on right now too. It's great that there was an avenue for education here, but please let us not forget the others out there that are having their holocaust right now.
- Velnich, on 01/28/2009, -0/+7Jokes can fly with anything, but the more serious the topic, the better/more clever the joke needs to be.
- inactive, on 01/28/2009, -1/+8I'd like to see a Holocaust denier or so called 'revisionist' come up to these people's faces and say what they went through wasn't that bad or never happened. Too bad loudmouthed, shambling parodies of normal human beings like to hide behind computer screens when they spew their vitriolic hatred. They're surprisingly quiet and withdrawn in public, unless they're with a group of like-minded cowards.
Genocide never seems like a good idea until you go on a neo-nazi forum, they're the sort of people who really would deserve such a thing. However, encouraging violence against pigs and mistakes like these makes us no better than the bastards who made it necessary to come up with such a word. Education, the court, and child protection agencies are the only weapons we can use to defeat, punish, and prevent another generation from being poisoned by sheer ignorance and malice.
I hope that in another 60 years, the word "genocide" will never need to be used to describe anything, and will be decommissioned. Maybe we'll look past creed, skin color, and sexual preference one day, and realize that deep down, past all these things, we're all human beings. - Jareth86, on 01/28/2009, -0/+6Finally, second life is good for something. Powerful story.
- xtraa, on 01/28/2009, -1/+6Two months ago I had the honor to meet two holocaust survivors here in Germany. One of them had been in five(!) different KZs. I still wonder how it is possible to be such a survival-artist. These people have seen everything, you know they faced hell on earth, there is nothing that could be more worse than what they experienced. Nothing.
What you can't see in the SecondLife video is how charismatic these people are, in a very special way. I mean it is not just this bright kind of positive aura, there is always a dark note between it. But they have such an unshakable way of serenity and strength.
And most important, they have much to tell and they remind us of our on life and in what kind of good position we are all living today. - xtraa, on 01/28/2009, -2/+7What have you expected; something more Jerry Springer?
"Ok Fanny, are you ready for the big surprise? Guess who's here and coming directly on stage:" - LibertyPrime, on 01/28/2009, -0/+4And maybe the only coolest use of Second Life.
- mf89, on 01/28/2009, -0/+3Not exactly the same thing, but you'll probably enjoy this :)

(dunno why its labelled as adult content its definitely work safe). - petebot, on 01/28/2009, -1/+4Oh yes, Youtube would have been much better. Everyone knows that is the place for intelligent discourse on complex subjects.
- BlondeBoy, on 01/28/2009, -1/+4dont you think we get enough of this kind of story on TV?
- NewTV, on 01/28/2009, -0/+3Make the historical information accessible for the youth to explore through creative and engaging mediums. First hand recollections are invaluable and must be utilized to enrich historical accuracy; technology can be utilized to make this information more accessible and engaging. If you ever visited the United States holocaust Memorial Museum, they utilize a number of different mediums including text, audio, video, archaeological evidence, and much more to convey historically accurate information. Upon entering the museum individuals can pick up an "Identification Card" telling the particular story of a real person who lived during the Holocaust--much like this valuable Second Life Video featuring a "real" holocaust survivor.
- Markers, on 01/28/2009, -0/+3What a perfect way to deliver a powerful message and bridge a generation gap.
- xtraa, on 01/28/2009, -6/+9...thanks to the Hamas and their civilian life-shields. But you are talking off topic.
There are no KZs and Mengeles for Palestinians. But if they would have lived here in Germany between the years 1935-45, I bet they would have had a good chance to become victims, too. See, for Hitler everything non-blonde non-arian was scum and not worth living. - tEhKewleSt, on 01/28/2009, -0/+3Second life is not a game, please post under a different category.
- Gojirra, on 01/28/2009, -1/+4and second life is? are you ***** nuts?
- LogitechG15, on 01/28/2009, -1/+4That's pretty wild! I can't get over the fact how horrid Second Life's graphics are though!
- Viciousblade, on 01/28/2009, -0/+3I hope she started her story with
"Sit awhile, and listen."
...I miss Diablo - Gojirra, on 01/28/2009, -0/+3My favorite part of the article is:
"The lecture becomes especially noteworthy in light of the technology being leveraged -- the 87-year-old Starr has given many similar talks on her experiences throughout the past 30 years, but Second Life allowed her to reach a much wider audience without the burden of travel" - inactive, on 01/28/2009, -4/+7How long would Butchers cow the suffering of those people to slaughters civilians in the Middle East?
- nanosec, on 01/28/2009, -3/+5Wow, some Digg users need to understand that jokes and the holocaust just don't fly with most people.
- josepablos, on 01/28/2009, -3/+5Second Life still online!!. Thats a news
- Thray, on 01/29/2009, -0/+2Even with the volume maxed I couldn't hear it well enough to sit through.
- sneaker98, on 01/28/2009, -1/+3Though you'll probably never read this comment, thanks for sharing part of your story.
- EvilFerret, on 01/28/2009, -0/+2They're actually much better than that, her daughters computer probably can't run it on higher settings. *cough* So I've heard.....
- alexownzyou, on 01/29/2009, -0/+1lol i cant take this seriously ><
- dralezero, on 02/04/2009, -0/+1We were in the camp and I saw, i remember him with his hands in his uniform, and I went right and not to the gas chamber. Then we went to another camp, sometimes weak sometimes strong. The end. Any questions? Story was short to amazing as a "story".
- Glamhoth, on 01/28/2009, -0/+1good story stupid way to tell it.
- capellathestar, on 01/30/2009, -0/+1Yeah, I with someone would teach her to use the volume adjuster.
- evilcar, on 01/28/2009, -1/+2Awwww, Holocaust stories make me sad every single time. Saw this one for like 87th time and still aint short of tears! <s-igh>
- geojessb, on 01/28/2009, -0/+1Is it bad to say that I really thought that second life had closed. Are people still using this? Still amazing historical account.
- eLye, on 01/28/2009, -4/+5Will the jewish propaganda ever end?
- inactive, on 01/28/2009, -2/+2I'd stick em in the pooper

- adrenalmedulla9, on 01/28/2009, -3/+3O_O
- agentinfinite, on 01/28/2009, -0/+0Very interesting idea for SecondLife.
- kriticc, on 01/28/2009, -3/+2good catch
- TaLoNxNL, on 01/29/2009, -3/+1Hmm, why now? This stinks, I wouldn't have had my doubts if she'd done this earlier, like when Israel wasn't killing lots of little children in Gaza, now it seems like propaganda to keep the "jews are victims" thought alive.
- bollyuk, on 01/28/2009, -4/+1Eek, read that as holocaust survivors should be preserved and made attractive to future generations
- JanK1, on 01/28/2009, -6/+2Man, that lady has the perfect bedtime story voice. Laying down with my laptop, she nearly put me to sleep in those three n a half minutes.
No disrespect intended =) - keysa13, on 01/28/2009, -6/+2http://digg.com/celebrity/Sign_Olivia_s_Pie_Week_P ...
- inactive, on 01/28/2009, -10/+3I survived the Iron Wolf at Six Flags and have a T-Shirt to prove it but does anyone ever sit and listen to my story? noooo....
