- pile0nades, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6There's also Orbiter, a realistic space flight simulator.
http://orbitersim.com/ - Phyltre, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Odd--I sent out a satellite, it looped around Earth, then shot off the screen very quickly. Ten seconds later, it came back to the system from exactly where it left and eventually collided with the moon...
- CJz44, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I can get... one?
- thexder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I just got one around the moon but it's all messed up it makes three loops one way, pulls towards the earth, then comes back towrds the moon and makes three loops the other way...very weird, but somewhat stable...

- Kappa3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4the trick is clicking faster and faster in random places for no reason.
- cyroxos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I have about 20, but it is lagging pretty bad now. The key is to make very low velocity objects and slowing increase the velocity untill they stop going into the earth. I even have 2 going around the moon. I am trying to get one to do a figure eight :)
- Florian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Nice! And extra points for spelling satellite correctly in the post. ;-)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5like 600, hard to tell exactly. looks like a firefly orgy.
- JimmyLin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I feel kind of dumb just clicking everywhere randomly and hoping something will happen...
- chulium, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Kudos to one who can get one orbiting the moon...
- D4r7h3v1l, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3To make it bigger:
DL the stylish FF extension
create a style for that page
include this:
applet {
width: *what you want*px !important;
height: *what you want*px !important;
} - BlackCow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Use the moon to help you sling shot it in the right path around the earth. If you don't want to line it up exactly you could just spam satellites untill you get it. Picture little rings of gravity around the moon and the earth to help you.
- aeiou, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Why not? Thats what they did for the apolo missions.
- mxfreak92, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3that game is awesome... and i dont care if u digg me down for my "pointless comment" no that i wont get dugg down for saying that anyways
- idonthack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Also, "La Grange" by ZZ Top is a pretty cool song.
- ydt89, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I completly just did a figure eight around the moon and earth, and it was shearly on accident... it was insane... i dont even know how i did it -.-; ;;
- idonthack, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Damn you, Gravity!
I WILL DEFEAT YOU SOME DAY!!! - mk32066, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I just had 2 that would do a figure 8 and then orbit the earth for a while, and then go around the moon. But after a while one just crashed into the Earth :'( I also have one that disappears and then reappears.
- bglav, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm a failure...
- InsaneMachine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You have to lauch them at a tangent to the planet to get stable orbits.
- geuisteses, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Is it just me, or does any satellite in a counter-clock orbit fail? I did it with an equal number going both ways, and it seems like the only stable systems that develop are the ones that go counter to the direction of the moon.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I have about 50 in tight orbit around the earth.
- SeenD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think i've killed all the people on earth by bombarding with satellites :)
simple game but hard to make an orbit... none of my satellites have survived for long periods of time - bluebearr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Stupid moon, eating my satellites ;-)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1today seems to be the day where articles are posted with very poorly descriptive titles
- zadadka, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I find the wicked thing is to let rip with multiples in the bottom right corner when the moon is a 6 o'clock....(your quadrant may vary)....then just sit back and enjoy.....also, wonder at the calculations involved in NASA using gravitational slingshot....fractional changes of a degree or in timing and it's "bye-bye-baby"...scary.
Cool post. - raitchison, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Interesting, after playing with this for a while last night I went to bed with 4 sattelites in unstable looking orbits.
When I checked in the morning I had 1 in a perfect (looking) circular orbit.
that's luck for you right there. - elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I feel really sorry for all the people on that planet. They've been hit by literally hundreds of QUITE LARGE meteoroids.
- slowmo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Last night I spammed about 50 satellites and when I woke up in the morning I had about 25 still going. I just got home from work and have about 15 still in orbit. It's interesting to see how long the last.
For all of you wondering why you can't get a perfect round orbit around the earth: None of mine are perfectly circular. They are all elliptical and slingshot very quickly and closely to the earth.
Kudos to whomever has gotten them to orbit the moon. That's damn near impossible. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1make the mass of the earth to like 10000 and almost everything you throw will orbit.
at like 10000000 it is more like a black hole - elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Kind of like ANY object orbiting any other object, you mean?
- TheBrewCrew, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1addicting period. truley kudos to the moon orbit really hard still cant get it. i have some in very large orbits and they appear 4 like 3 seconds then leave the other side then come back like 1min later
- gakman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@StarManta
I don't have a Mac and no one has volunteered to make a Mac executable. Sorry mate :( - dr-steve, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I have around two dozen in retrograde orbit between planet and moon, along with a couple that appear to be in a highly eccentric orbit. I think I'll let it run for a while to see what happens.
- TheBrewCrew, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1wat would be sweet would be a larger screen so i can see my huge orbits, and maybe choices on color and size planets but thats another time this 1 is ok 4 now
- nreynolds, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i've had a satelite in orbit for the past 8 minutes, but it's not an even orbit. They're sling shotting around half the time, and even out half the time. The big end of the sling shot keeps moving too.
- rompom7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1science be a harsh mistress
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Not stable but I kept one in orbit for about 15 seconds.
- JonBuddy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I have at least a dozen in close orbit of the earth. I can't get them to rotate about the moon more than three times. I had one doing a very loose figure eight.. it flew off the screen for a few minutes and then came back and collided with the earth. Whoops
- HellifIno, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Started out with about 50 going in each direction in various orbits. Within 5 minutes all 50 of the counterclockwise bits were gone.
As of right now, it's been 4.5 hours and I have 3 bits left, all in fairly close earth orbit, all with fairly high variability in their orbits.
Makes for a good demonstration of why we don't have more bits of rock floating around our planet... - StarManta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Gravit claims to have a Mac version, but I don't see it - do I have to compile it myself?(lame if so)
- election, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://digg.com/tech_news/Global_Satellite_Internet_Service_Provider_List
- Crispin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It would be better if the moon orbited at the right speed for its distance... or was at the right distance for its speed.
- bradsully, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I got 3 but they don't orbit perfect, just sling shot around.
- ZeroMP, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm terrible at launching sattelites *shhhh* don't tell my boss at NASA!
