- kd420, on 02/10/2009, -4/+62I find it funny how people thing Sudoku is math related. Sure, you need some of the logic components of math but you could replace the numbers with cute animals and it would be the same.
- ksalminen, on 02/10/2009, -10/+37KenKen. It's like Sudoku, except it's not fun.
- ChristianDKSD, on 02/10/2009, -3/+29I find it funny how you spell think
- burketo, on 02/10/2009, -2/+28"you could replace the numbers with cute animals and it would be the same."
mathematics is made almost entirely of replacing unknown or variable quantities with symbols. any of which could easily be replaced with cute animals.
f(bunny) = bunny^3 + 2(kitten)(bunny)^2 + 6(bunny)(kitten)^2 +kitten^3
you still do the same thing to find df(bunny)/dbunny!! - burketo, on 02/10/2009, -0/+25I'm not going to lie to you, I just wanted to write out that function.
- str1fe, on 02/10/2009, -0/+21Sudoku doesn't involve addition. You're thining of Kakuro.
- benmandude, on 02/10/2009, -4/+25That's cool but really difficult. I thought Sudoku was hard enough.
- bitterbug, on 02/10/2009, -0/+20walrus/bucket = cat/cheeseburger
Fatal error. Can not divide by bucket. Oh noes. - kcisepod, on 02/10/2009, -0/+20now this is what I call FUN!
- HyperJack, on 02/10/2009, -0/+18BarbieBarbie
- bakaferret, on 02/10/2009, -1/+18Yeah but KenKen involves math and that's scary. :(
/s - silver26, on 02/10/2009, -2/+18my poor brain :(
- johnnyzero, on 02/10/2009, -0/+14I find this easier than Sudoku as the math gives you hints as to what needs to be cleared out well in advance of filling in half the puzzle and finding those pesky misplacements.
- Rikushix, on 02/10/2009, -1/+14This is addictive.
I don't see what's so wrong with Sudoku though. It's just another game. - KSUdesigner, on 02/10/2009, -0/+12In sudoku you're supplied with hints initially. The mathematics in this game is just another form of those hints. These puzzles can be figured out with pure logic and no guesses as well. Not our fault you aren't smart enough to figure out the logic without guessing.
- theOguy, on 02/10/2009, -0/+11i thought it was 'moths'. they fly in your ear and eat your brains. evil beasts.
- counterplex, on 02/10/2009, -0/+10Of course if you integrate that back you'll get:
f(bunny) = bunny^3 + 2(kitten)bunny^2 + 6(kitten^2)bunny + giraffe - stormgren, on 02/10/2009, -0/+10df/dbunny = 3(bunny)^2 + 4(kitten)bunny + 6(kitten)^2
- nomadxx7, on 02/10/2009, -0/+10Actually I found the smaller ones easier (didn't try a full 9x9). I've done the 4x4 and the 5x5.
- nowhereelse, on 02/10/2009, -1/+10Killer Sudoku FTW. Better than either Sudoku or KenKen because it combines logic and simple maths.
http://www.killersudokuonline.com/ - johnnyzero, on 02/10/2009, -0/+9HADOUKENKEN**
- inactive, on 02/10/2009, -0/+9His point was that sudoku uses no mathematical operations.
- anteup, on 02/10/2009, -0/+8They're cranky because they never figured out how to solve for x.
HULK SMASH - theOguy, on 02/10/2009, -1/+9spongebob sudoku? that sounds like a crack dealer.
- fudsak, on 02/10/2009, -3/+10How is Sudoku any more or less fun than this? Use logic to fill in a grid of numbers. There, I just described both games.
- Ocelot13, on 02/10/2009, -3/+10HADOUKEN!*
- dygel, on 02/10/2009, -0/+6So what you're saying is that it's like Sudoku.
- zuiquan, on 02/10/2009, -0/+6Haven't you seen spongebob sudoku?
- captainquack, on 02/10/2009, -5/+11you know maths gives you cancer?
- DetpackJump, on 02/10/2009, -0/+6File->Print
- theOguy, on 02/10/2009, -1/+7don't talk to your mother like that. now finish your broccoli and go to your room.
- TheScreamer, on 02/10/2009, -0/+5I don't get it... but then again, I have the attention span of a parking meter.
- versualize, on 02/10/2009, -2/+7KenKen. It's like Sudoku, except you need to have some intelligence in order to solve it.
- clandestination, on 02/11/2009, -0/+5I prefer the puzzles at http://www.webkendoku.com.
There's over 1000 random games in 4x4, 6x6, and 8x8 grid and varying level of difficulty from easy, medium, hard and no-op.
Another plus is a better game interface where you can type numbers on the keyboard.
But the best part is you can play more than 6 games a day. - bentrinh, on 02/11/2009, -0/+4HADOUKENKEN®***
- yanr, on 02/10/2009, -0/+4f(bunny) = bunny^3 + 2(kitten)(bunny)^2 + 6(bunny)(kitten)^2 +kitten^3
df/dbunny = 3(bunny)^2 + 4(kitten)bunny + 6(kitten)^2
technically this is partial df by dbunny where f(bunny) is really f(bunny, kitten). Unless kitten is a function of bunny, and then we'd have to implicitly differentiate... - slym2k, on 02/10/2009, -1/+5After I figured out the directions, this was pretty fun.
- BrittonBK, on 02/10/2009, -1/+5... if by "math skills" you mean the ability to perform simple arithmetic...
- Sloi, on 02/10/2009, -0/+4Dugg you up because of "parking meter". Thanks for making me laugh :)
- sccrplyr40, on 02/10/2009, -0/+4i passed the 5X5 puzzle but anything above that is ridiculously hard!
- Amadeus2490, on 02/10/2009, -2/+5Put KenSPT on ignore if you think he's an *****.
- blackhole82, on 02/10/2009, -0/+3well if i can ever figure out the directions i will give this a try. they need a better example
- KSUdesigner, on 02/11/2009, -0/+3Here you go:

You know the 8 because it's the only one that can be in that cage. The cages with 3+ can only be a one and a two. They may not be in those exact positions, but you know they are in those cages. Just like in sudoku you first figure out which possible numbers can go there, then later deduce using the rest of the board which position is correct.
The next step would be to put 5 and 8 in the 40x boxes, because those are the only two numbers you can multiply to get 40. Again, deduce later which positions are correct. This isn't guessing, it is pure logic.
Happy now? - bengerman80, on 02/11/2009, -0/+3My Pop had maths
- mikeruiz7, on 02/10/2009, -1/+4Another great game that involves using math and logic is Kakuro AKA Cross sums AKA crosswords for nerds (just made that up but it would be a good name)
- SawanM, on 02/10/2009, -0/+3One RyuRyu coming right up.
- burgerkinghorn, on 09/02/2009, -0/+3Or letters A through I
- Xelseragoth, on 02/10/2009, -0/+3Arithmetic being a math skill, yes...
- maryjanelove, on 02/10/2009, -0/+3Wow, that game is really cool. Took me a while, to get the directions straight. I wonder if there's a paper version of this game.
- cyrix, on 02/10/2009, -0/+3What the hell is with all the angry comments???
