Grid Wars 2 - A deeper version of Geometry Wars for Windows and Mac
worldofstuart.excellentcontent… — Ever want to play Geometry Wars but didn't own an Xbox 360? Or maybe you're in love with the original but you're at class and you need that Euclidean fix right now. Enter Grid Wars 2. It initially appears to be a simple clone of Geometry Wars, but ends up being much deeper and much more fun. Download link on the page, and lots of pretty pictures!

- hansamurai, on 10/12/2007, -1/+26Because the download link might be hard to find, here's it directly:
http://worldofstuart.excellentcontent.com/grid/GridWars54.zip- Nells, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13Too bad it's not web playable (wrong category), otherwise it's awesome :)
- Mejogid, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I may well be being stupid... but the link to the 'mac version' seems to be for windows. Any ideas?
Edit: Looks like Mirrosoft forced his sight down:
Sorry folks... I've had to remove the link to the download:
Email from BizarreCreations:
"We're beginning to feel the effects of the Geometry Wars clones on our sales via Microsoft now and are beginning a process to begin to more robustly protect our copyright and intellectual property.
Therefore, I'd like to ask you in an amicable fashion to stop infringing our IP and pull the game 'Grid Wars' from the internet for download.
I hope you understand and are able to do this without us having to take further steps." - rhfb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2So basically all this is, is the download link to the version the developer pulled after he was about to get sued for copyright infringment?
- scooterbaga, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9mac:
http://worldofstuart.excellentcontent.com/grid/GridWarsOSX.zip - bpwwhirl, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Ha! grabbed it before it went down. huzzah
- lava, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2it didn't work for me. Whenever I pressed the bomb button the app died.
- LycoLoco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Anyone want to mirror this on rapidshare or something?
- LycoLoco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The PC version: http://rapidshare.de/files/37127766/GridWars54.zip.html
- retral, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Great game while it was still new to me, but I can't really seem to play it anymore without getting bored.
The people who make Geometry wars are demanding Grid Wars to be 'destroyed' - claiming it's theft of intellectual property.. But I think most of us know that legality/copyrights don't do a damn thing to protect the makers. - quasipalm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7If Grid Wars is an infringement of Geometry Wars, Geometry Wars is an infringement of Robotron and about a half dozen other games from the 80s.
- retral, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@quas: Have you ever compared the graphics of the two? They're almost identical.
- cheeze69, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Robotron 2084 was (is) teh pwn! Robotron and Sinistar are two of the hardest games from the golden era of the arcade that I've run acrosss. I own a Sinistar. I cannot find a Robotron and it saddens me greatly. Either game will humble your average "I'm the best at playing XXX" gamer and keep their playtimes to 2 minutes or less without significant practice. However, they have fun while getting their asses kicked, which is the ultimate compliment to the Williams designers.
- BetaMaster, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Read that review, downloaded the game. Haven't played yet, but it seems to be an entertaining arcade game.
- PangYu, on 10/12/2007, -7/+9I just tried it. Geometry Wars looks, sounds and plays much better. If you have a 360 and want to play a game like this--buy it('s only like $5). If you don't have a 360, the game is *ok* but doesnt compare to the refined Geometry Wars.
- jrbrewin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1agreed. this plays, feels, looks, and sounds massively inferior to geometry wars on both the xbox and 360, which is odd really.. considering it's an almost identical rip off.
- Vulc4n, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Played it for a few minutes... Seems like a great game. Download it.

- Bradl3y, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Anyone have a mirror of the download? Anyo of you that have can you create a torrent? If you don't know how let me know and I can create a torrent of the file if you find a way to get it to me.
- dadrew1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4If you are needing a fix of sorts, check out the games from these guys:
http://www.binaryzoo.com/games/
I've never played Geometry Wars, but I've heard their games are comparable. Check back when Echoes comes out though - its a blast! - LordofChaosIori, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This is a bit old... but it IS a good clone, and it has a deeper aspect known as "Black Hole farming" where the more you feed the black holes the more points you get when you destroy them, so the trick is to know when it's getting to big and then destroy it for massive points, lotsa fun! ^_^
- chedabob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3you can do that in Geometry War Retro Evolved on 360.
- ReqX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Mac version crashes. Oh well.
- tabledesk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm getting the impression that it's not a universal binary. It works for me but it's laggy.
- SleepJunkie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Working great for me on Macbook Pro
- RafiParrr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5The mac version crashes on launch. Anyone else get this problem?
- avktm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1nope works fine its fun too
- tapo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Check its config file, and change the resolution to something else. Then it should work.
(This is from memory, last time I tried GridWars was months ago) - rodrigo74, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Crashes on my Mac Mini (PPC) too
Maybe this build is Intel-only? - m0ke, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@tapo, could you explain how to do that?
- rodrigo74, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Great, tapo actually posted the solution at the same time that I posted about my crash...
Reduced the resolution to 1024x768 and now it works :) - XDataBurn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Not working for me either. Im on a powerBook G4.
- snocat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Check the errors.txt file and fix it in the file config.txt.
I had 'Could Not Set Graphic Mode' crashe and it works now after altering the config.txt - darkamster07, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Yeah, I got a mac crash on launch to (10.3.9) *****!, I heard geometry wars was so good and wanted to play it! (I don't have a 360)
- darkamster07, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5just got it running good: open the config.txt file and scroll down to where it says "playing field" and "screen height" delete the numbers and fill them in (4 fields to fill total) with your screen resolution (found in system preferences under display) save the file then start the game up, it should run perfectly
- mattly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0To any mac people having crash issues, even after editing Config.txt:
Chances are you have a case-sensitive file system.
This is the same reason Photoshop won't launch for you.
You need to go into Disk Utility and create a 5MB disk image, and then copy Grid Wars to that image. You can then run Grid Wars off of the disk image because its filesystem isn't case-sensitive, and so it doesn't distinguish from SOUNDEFFECT.WAV and soundeffect.wav
Once I did that, it works like a charm.
- dslozak, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Geometry Wars is frustratingly fun.
I don't blame Bizarre for taking action. They didn't even change the way the enemies look. - Moopy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1How do I get the controls to work on my pc >_>
- avktm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6change it from jotstick to keyboard
- Moopy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Yeah I just realised that :(
- ZeroG52, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Mouse works best IMO...
- Wookie92, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1this game is one of the best i have ever played
- Darkheirophant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I was luck to snag a copy of it. My Geometry Wars RE Hi-Score is 4.9 million, my buddy got 8.1 million and I am pretty pissed but hey I taught him how to play. I think any game of this design is a challenging and beautiful example of video game art. Fun to watch and even more fun when 900 enimies are flying at you. Damn those tiny "jack" looking things called "Mayflies"
- mdevans1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2neat game. Too bad MS wants to shut it down.
- astav, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0not a universal binary for osx yet...but it does work for me fine on a macbook pro
- thepagman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0just played it on my macbook for about 15 mins straight with no crashing, maybe its an intel only version
- astav, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0if you right click the .app file and then click Get Info you will see that the application is listed as PowerPC
- m0ke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2mac users: http://gridwars.marune.de/ I found a mirror version that worked for me when the original wouldn't.
PS: I'm running osx on an iBook - chedabob, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Gotta say, this is a really pants clone. It just doesn't work with a mouse. The Xbox Live Arcade version is 100x better.
- WallyAnti, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Using the keyboard config works well for me. Awesome game. It's like galaga but waaay better and on crank. Not too keen on the fact that enemies kill you as soon as they spawn though... but I guess that's because you're supposed to stay in the center.
- renderme, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I use a mouse on PC and I'm scoring > 4mil on hard, default settings. Every aspect of this game is top-notch, very high production. There is no game that is "100x" better than a game executed with this much polish. That's my notsohumble opinion.
OH, WallyAnti, you have a 2 second grace period for spawning enemies when they won't kill you. Try to stay calm when they're spawning all around you and sit until they're done. The more you move during a big spawn wave the more you'll accidentally find one and die.
- Ductapemaster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Crashes when you try to start the game in XP...I really want to play it too! Anybody got a fix? I tried changing the resolution in the config.txt file, but no luck...
- rand21althor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm having the same problem. I was able to go through the config, but (a)I don't know which button is the "fire" button and (b) various buttons I press cause the program to crash.
- kingfarook, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Hey, maybe some people can meet on the new Guild Wars, and then go and set up a site for us to send them all our money so they can meet each other. Then they can even post the site on digg, where plenty of tools will donate. What an original idea.
- E55P3A, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Grid Wars.... not guild wars.
- evil-doer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1awesome game! i like it better than geometry wars cause its so configurable. you can configure everything..
- evil-doer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1btw, the author also has a robotron clone he made as well. similar game, the game that started it all.. http://www.darkuni.com/markinc/blitzatron.html
- daprice, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If Tempest and Robotron mated, the offspring would look like Grid Wars.
- pirana0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Try a dual analog joypad that is the most amazing way to play. I got ahold of this game several months ago so nothing new, but something great to share with Digg.
- yonah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Great game! :) I´ve been looking for games like this to my mac. Does anyone know any similar ones?
- Bootes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well I posted before saying that I would post this, but it seems my message has either disappeared or went to the wrong post. Anyways to make the Mac version you have to change the default resolution or something, here's a link to mine which works on my Powerbook. http://rapidshare.de/files/37135269/GridWars046osx.zip.html
- fershizzle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1THIS GAME OWNS!!!!
i am hereby addicted - nermal0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This game is my absolute favourite on my Macbook. It's completely addictive. Sounds and graphics are simple but amazing. When the screen is filled with enemies, it may slow down a little, which is actually good for the player! Underclocking the Macbook to 1GHz (which I usually do to keep it cool and quiet) makes the game even slower, leading to new high scores :-)
- notbob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This was of course pulled off the original programmers website for IP infringement.
http://www.incitti.com/Blitz/ - SulFuRus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Old School great experience
- nintendomaniac, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0uh, no offense, but this is kinda old... :P Not to mention I had it uploaded about 3 weeks ago >_>

Proof: http://forum.gbadev.org/viewtopic.php?t=11262 (scroll down to the 2nd post made by "Nintendo Maniac 64" AKA me)
The only problem is that I've been getting a wierd glitch for Grid Wars recently O_o You can see from one of my post's edited part (Nintendo Maniac 64) here:
http://forum.gbadev.org/viewtopic.php?t=11262&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=15
Anyone else having that problem?- nintendomaniac, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0ah crap, talk about bad math >_> It's more like 2 weeks ago.
BTW, Playing this with a wired 360 controller owns :D
- nintendomaniac, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0ah crap, talk about bad math >_> It's more like 2 weeks ago.
- DoubleWah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0For an intense (but brief) game experience try Grid Wars 2 on it's smallest playfield setting. Very good fun :-)
- i3eergod, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@nintendomaniac - yea, the wire 360 controller is definitley the way to go, using dual analog of course.
Has anyone ever played a game called Mono? It is very similar in a lot of respects but at the same time different enough to not warrant copying. Trust me, it is friggin' awesome. Get it here:
http://www.download.com/Mono/3000-2099_4-10379806.html?tag=lst-0-1- renderme, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0what kinds of high scores with that pad? I'm > 4mil with mouse. :)
- xswag, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Kind of reminds me of Robotron for some reason.
- Hizzout, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've got a home built MAME cabinet with a section for PC games. I've got GridWars installed and configured like a Robotron setup. It's really fun and great to play in hotseat mode with other people watching.
Great game. - bking, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Works great on my powerbook using the mouse and keyboard, but I can't get the thing to work with my dual analogue.
- jprez, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1yea, this is awesome, i accidently buried it cause i was trying to bury another story, damn
- rmeddy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0the default controls arent keybaord u got to go option and change it
- SleepJunkie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Great find.
Played on MBP no problem at all. Top score so far is 800k - OropheR, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Brilliant game indeed that I spotted many months ago. I still do not understand the rules. Nor I am not sure about controls.
- tdawson2012, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Had to run it in windowed, the refresh rate was going crazy! Thanks for the game though!! I was hoping to see something like this for pc.
- MattyLite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ah, finally a use for my Dual Analog Gamepad! It's neat to see a fun arcade game that works with my Mac . . . since I can't bring my MAME cabinet to my dorm.
- CherryTzors, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Fun fun fun!
- renderme, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Does anyone else use a mouse? I see everyone raging about playing with dual analog, but I am scoring over 4mil (4.42mil in 59:47) on hard, default with a mouse. Seems like that is the way to play. Please post some high scores or tell me where to find some. I'm having a hard time finding groups playing this incredible, near perfect game.
The debate about Geometry Wars and Grid Wars 2 is pointless. Grid Wars 2 is distributed independently for free so just let it be. - Thorlord, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm gonna save this baby on discs, and ftp it to my site.. i cant risk having a reformat and losing this game...
Jesus invented Open Source. - BobDole64, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0i got to the point the game is lame. 9 lives 9 bombs so then keeps spitting out sheilds for you so you cant die. killed myself shortly after 24mil. when ever it got to x10 i often just used bomb to wipe screen since the screen was basically full of guys and game was really slow running
