Digg has defeated Duels.com in a duel - JonAce, on 10/10/2007, -4/+53Skip the spam: http://www.duels.com/
- bluemeep, on 10/10/2007, -5/+27A "World of Warcraft type character"? That kind of phrasing alone is enough to keep me from wanting to play this.
- Trebis, on 10/10/2007, -2/+20WoW + social network = World of MySpace???
- darkone_05, on 10/10/2007, -1/+17How is this WOW like? From what I can see it looks like fighting silhouettes. Anyone play it yet?
- gregdogum, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15i think digg won. duels has been digg effected. no armor needed. victory!
- terminal157, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12Or a sign saying "BETA".
- beatbox32, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10They're getting hit hard right now. Looks like they're trying to throw some more servers up today. I registered, and now it says it can't find me in the system when I try to log in...and then when I tried to re-register, it said I'm already in the system. D'oh!
- ABEL3616, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11Ignoring the spam, digging to support free alternatives.
- iWasHere, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11Because it is probably some kids with a great idea without any cash...
- terminal157, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Yeah, it tells you that they weren't ready for this level of traffic. Which means absolutely nothing in regards to its "future success". It's in beta.
- boo19, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Wow. If I ever become a big-shot website designer, and I have a rival, I'll take him down with digg.
- innocentsinner, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8No female avatars? Or am I missing something?
- krebcycle, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Give them a break, it hasn't launched yet. This is just an early beta.
- KniteWulf, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7I think Digg did kill it. I tried registering and the site was ***** itself.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Quick, everyone stop trying to visit this site so I can play!
- DangerMouse9, on 10/10/2007, -3/+9But you can get the sword of a thousand truths!
- trusttimothy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7I hope the sloppy connection is because of the digg effect. The game seems to be interesting.
- p0tent1al, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7IT'S TIME TO DUH-DUH-DUH-DUH-D-D-D-D-DUEL
(Yu-Gi-Oh reference) - jedikv, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6"Welcome to Duels!
We are grateful for the recent mentions on techcrunch and digg and we're in the process of adding servers, optimizing code and improving the game. The load is essentially too much for the resources we have available at the moment. Please try back later today as we expect more servers online shortly.
Sincerely,
The Duels Team"
yep your right - DangerMouse9, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7If digg banned blog sites there would be like three articles on here.
- ZedDrebin, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6Why can't any company that has launched any sort of mmorpg build a data center that is capable of sustaining a connection to the internet capable of surviving registration when the word gets out? Don't waste your time. It will be a lagfest for another 2 years...
- Wizdum, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4http://progressquest.com/
- Murdats, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5this is what bugs me about the description.
its a fantasy themed online game, thus its wow like, because wow was the first, and only game to do that.
and it has a social network. what do you call guilds, friends list, personal, area, region, guild, party, raid and channel chats + mail system (this covers pretty much every MMO)
so essentially its a standard online fantasy themed multiplayer game, that may be called an MMO. its not really wow like in the way quake 2 isnt really CS like. - Xyleene, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5@ kevin45.. clicked on the wrong reply button :-)
OK, I'll play the devil's advocate here.
When it's blogspam I agree. However, this does not fit my description of blogspam. The author adds some interesting information to the mix by giving us a concise synopsis of the game. To me that adds value and thus is not blogspam.
My definition of blogspam is when someone links to their blog for the sake of it without making any contribution to the story. - Lynxplus, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4I don't like the fact you don't actually play, seems like you just engage then its all on auto pilot, thats not really a game to me but more an observation. But I haven't actually played it, just getting that from the article.
- adam.skinner, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Check out the Duels wiki - http://www.duels.com/content/Main_Page
- Penn, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5I think they use it as a reference due to the fact over 9 million people currently play WoW which means a gazillion trillion more have heard of the name and can instantly relate to it.
- kaldrenon, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Dugg for the reference.
Sad thing is, I was playing WoW while watching that episode air. I've been clean for a couple months now, though. - universltravlr, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3"Welcome to Duels!

- mudface, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5Yeah, just like WoW. Exactly.
/sarcasm - skrowl, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3From the developers website (also slow, possibly the same digg-effected server as the game) - http://www.oxygengames.com/products.html
A NEW KIND OF GAME
Oxygen Games develops short-form games that combine the head-to-head play, collectibility and trading, associated with collectible card games (CCGs) - like Magic: The Gathering and Yug-i-oh - and the level advancement and character development of massively multi-player games (MMORPGs) with the ease of access and community aspects of Web 2.0 applications.
* Get a quick-fix by playing in small doses. Jump in and play in 3-10 minute increments while still advancing.
* Asynchrounous play means you control the game - the game doesn't control you.
WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF DUELS
Duels is a new kind of strategy game that combines the fun character building and advancement of MMORPGs and adds the strategic and collectible elements of CCGs. Duels is the ultimate fighter management/strategy game, where you are in control of your duelist's destiny.
WHAT IS A DUEL?
A duel is a type of combat, which is usually formalized by codes of behavior and regulated by specific rules. As practised in Phyrra, a duel is defined as a combat challenge between two fighters (or two teams of fighters) with either matched or unmatched weapons. In the past, duels were affairs of honor, usually between members of the nobility. Duels were usually initiated out of the desire of the challenger to redress a perceived insult to his honor or clan. Today, duels are conducted in specialized Arenas for profit and fame (or notoriety). - WebWorker, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5Sad that people think World of Warcraft is where RPGS came from that they use it as a reference point...
- supremespleen, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3So, is it good?
- Cerialthriller, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4the spamblog describes it as WoW meets magic the gathering, i used to play both so this could be interesting
- WasabiBomb, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Man, I wish I could work on a game even HALF as lame as WoW, considering how much money that game racks in each month.
- Monk22, on 10/10/2007, -0/+19 million X 14.95 a month=bank
- Shadic, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1This is nothing like WoW, you just do very simplistic quests, and challenge people to fights. The fight aren't even controlled by you, besides what equipment you want, and if you want to use a scroll before the battle. I'm almost level 10 now though, and I'm having a lot of fun with it... At least, when the servers are working.
- ngageguy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1yeah, I agree with you there!
- Shadic, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Dude, you kept friggin' challenging me! You're like, 3 levels higher, so screw that. >.>
- Bitties, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The game is pretty good, but the servers are lagged to hell. Leveling past 14 takes hopelessly long. The game is only really playable early in the morning or late at night, anywhere between takes forever just to load one challenge. Needs quests, NPCs, and more servers. Has a lot of potential though, tons of equipment, lots of dumb people to duel, and the game is only about a week old, so there's a chance to be on top. Duel/Ally me if you play.
- trusttimothy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1you get skills and choose a "path" at level 5. Before that it is more like a tutorial for the game and site
- billmill, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Damn, this thing is like WoW in more ways than one.
- Cloud7654, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Yeah, you can see your character complete with whatever armor you put on him in a profile, but in an actual duel all you can see is silhouettes fighting with the type of weapon. It's totally unlike WoW.
- dace86, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2lol loser
- Bitties, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The game is already ruined, all the top players are using a script to play the game all night. Well that was a fun 2 days while it lasted.
- bakeyman, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Here's hoping they work out the kinks. It appears to be a potentially fun game, but I can't stay logged in long enough to do anything with it.
- toxiclove999, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4Oh yea... TOTALLY WoW-like, if you're a complete idiot.
- thebassman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Amen!
