- marchaos, on 10/12/2007, -7/+78That's the Australian spelling of the word 'civilization'.
- solvable, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24Theme Hospital was a very under rated game.
You all should check it out. - zirtbow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22Bullfrog made some awesome games... Theme Hospital is only one of them. Theme Park, Dungeon Keeper, and Populous are other greats they made. Too bad they didn't last long enough to continue more sequels to their great games.

We don't care that you don't care. STFU - weprin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Dugg: Civ2
Buried: Civ3
Digging: Civ4 - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13WTF, why cant i download Doom 2?! Site says "download not available"
- Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Hmm, I would like to see how long this stays up before being C&D'd....better download quick, guys
- tuxidomasx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13i bet i can run Doom 2 on max resolution!
- rockforever, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13You know some of those old games would be so great to play with improved graphics. Graphics dont make the game great, but they make a great game better.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Theme Hospital!
- canti32, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10I haven't played Civ 2 in years. Can't wait to play it again. BTW does anyone know where I can find Alpha Centauri free or otherwise?
- 4rch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8What? No Jazz Jackrabbit or Terminal Velocity?
Hmm, dugg though, Operation Body Count, Stunts, and the first Duke Nukem. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Doom is not free- period.
Neither is blood, neither is Another world
half of these files or more are illegal, the other half is perfectly harmless abandonware - MadEnvoy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8It's legit. Just another site like The Underdogs... http://www.the-underdogs.info
Here's a list of the "Abandonware" rings...
http://www.abandonwarering.com/ - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Yes, Peter Molyneux is the man. He's probably one of the best AI writers in the world.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Yea, because I still play Fable and Black and White to this day....
- Platypus3333, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I would recommend that anyone who is a fantasy geek play Master of Magic. It's basically Civilization with spells, heroes that level up, items, and turn based strategy combat.
I could go on for hours about it :/ - Silt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Ahh Civilization 2, oh how thou caused me to see many sunrises because I played you all night!
Isn't it odd, that Civ2 is better than most new games coming out today? I'd much rather play it than the next cookie cutter FPS being released...like we really need 30 of those per year. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8@zirtbow
When Peter Molyneux quit Bullfrog, they started rehashing the old games that Peter thought up. He was the source of all their good games.
Now, Peter made Lionhead Studios, so look out for their games! - ThunderIT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5i stil got Civ2 on cd somewhere
i just reinstalled Civ4 today, and was playing, kinda funny to see Civ2 on digg the same day, i was looking @ a comparison between the 4 versions done by the official site, its cool to see how much we have progressed from that little 2 floppy addictive dos game to a dvd full of goodness - Dr.Gonzo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Golden Axe!!! I am complete.
- George86, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I reinstalled Theme Hospital during the summer and played it for a few days, surprisingly it was still fun after all these years. The graphics is old compared to today's standards but the isometric view fitted well with the game's design; I don't think 3D rendering would improve the game much. It was all about the game-play, it was just fun to build your own hospital and see it handling patients with these funny diseases and even funnier cures :P
Also for loads of games that have become free check out http://www.abandonia.com/ - 5hoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5This list is fantastic - but it's a damn shame it's lacking Sim Tower and Castles - Siege and Conquest.
- renzien, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7To quote another thread from awhile back,
"That's how it's spelt in places like Britain. It's called English. They invented it." - damentz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Yes i heard worms dont wonk in real life either.
- LosingTheFight, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I may be wrong, but I believe the most recent DCMA exceptions allow "copiesof digital media that are otherwise reasonably unavailable commercially to be excepted from DCMA". Which essentially means the DRM can be bypassed, so if you owned the original you are authorized to download it.
Besides, they are so old most companie won't care. - culbeda, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4OMG, that's a walk down memory lane...
Alley Cat
Red Barron
Eye of the Beholder series
4D Boxing (!!!!)
Budokan
Does anyone remember a DOS based racing/combat game (circa 1989-1992) with caltrops, bombs, etc.? I've been trying to remember the name of the game for the last few years, but I can't find it on any abandonware sites. - heffae, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5As I understood the new DMCA exceptions you could crack copy protection on software that is no longer commercially available but it didn't say anything about distributing software. So if you already own something you are in the clear but downloading something like his is a bit of a gray area
- BIGmog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Theme Park too. Roller Coaster Tycoon is a good replacement.
- Egen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Yeah, I agree. Woe to you that gets a puking epidemic.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4This is great! It's fantastic that instead of letting old games die with the dinosaurs, they re-release 'em for free so we can all enjoy them again. +dugg
- Universe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Eye of the Beholder? Hell yeah!
- muvment256, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5the original civilization is still the best game ever made.
- trer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Warcraft 2 is downloadable? Only if it's shareware...
Home of the Underdogs is the best for this type of stuff.
http://www.the-underdogs.info/ - Shirk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The edisk mirror site for downloads is slow as hell...
- Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Do, sorry. The new DMCA revisions only cover software for devices that are not reasonably available on the commercial market. A PC is still quite available the last time I checked
- salmonmoose, on 10/12/2007, -11/+14"That's the Australian spelling of the word 'civilization'."
No it's not. Just because Americans replace all ***sation words with a z, doesn't mean that all words that end in that sound are spelt with an 's'. Particularly if they're a proper noun. - AnotherBrian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Master of Orion is missing from that site.
- matt0baba, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3because the site is slovak and CH has a totally different pronunciation that C or H its like a whole different letter
- AndreGerber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Wow. I remember playing Theme Hospital on my pentium one. I just hope the site doesn't get taken down. I personally think that the game creators should release their VERY old games for free to the general public. It is a pity that this has to be done in a fairly underground manner.
@Shirk
Oh, yes. That download site is giving me a pitiful 10 kb/s. :( - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7@salmonmoose
While its true that not every word that's spelt 'zation' is spelt 'sation' in true English, civilisation is one of the many that most generally takes an 's'.
See http://www.amazon.co.uk/Civilisation-Kenneth-Clark/dp/B00077284C for an example.
It's usually a good bet to do a search and replace of 'zation' with 'sation' in any text - hell I've even seen certain americans trying to spell laser as 'laZer'! Proper noun for a game or not - the poster is right to try and correct the spelling where possible - and halt the tide of arbitrary transposition. - Noddy2k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It's Death Track. Loved that game.
- Dunadan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I think I saw Duke Nukem Forever on there too...
- KeyLimePie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Dugg for Syndicate. The best game ever made.
- furto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2random guess, carmageddon?
- matt0baba, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Just thank us "slovaks" ( i am one of them) for having this site and for having authorities that still cant type 5 finger way and do not do anything abt copyright laws on the net.
ALSO i dunno if anyone else noticed but if u can read slovak or check go check it out cuz the top 10 is different for english and slovak sites, also the slovak site has a handy dandy newest downloads - mmyjona, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Those are the games of the former century!
- ceralor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Actually just checked, there's a few other games here I still have CD's of, including Sim City 2000, but my version is on a CD and much larger than 2 MB.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2OMFG...Commander Keen, Leisure Suit Larry, Stunts...ah, they bring back some good memories! And i never thought i'd ever see Stunts again!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Anybody else being asked to put in the CD when launching Worms+?
Crack/workaround anyone? -
