Tired of waiting for Diablo III? Well there is a Mod of Diablo II Lord of Destruction that has grown and lives in Germany. The mod grows with user suggestions and is playable on-line like Diablo II LOD. Chaos Empire contains new items to morph, modified quests and a new end quest that changes with new up dates.
Chaos Empire is currently up to version 7.67. Yes it's been around for quite awhile. Chaos Empire is down loadable at the following link: http://chaos-empire.org/
This takes you to the front page of the forum, Click on the web/forum link and then the download tab on the upper right. Better yet browse the forum. For none German speaking go to the International Forum.
Of coarse to play this mod, you will need a Diablo II cdrom disks and the Lord of Destruction Expansion cdrom disk. Please check the forum on how to install the correct patch to use the chaos Empire mod. Which can be played in the same way as Diablo II LOD. the two parts of the Chaos Empire Mod you need are the Diablo II LOD patch ver. 1.10 and the latist full version of Choas Empire. Which can be found in the download section mentioned before.
If you have problems, a post on the forum will bring help and suggestions, free. OH! I forgot to tell you this is a free mod to use in single play. A small donation is requested to cover the server and bandwidth expenses. This mod is run as a none profit hobby, which has grown so much that donations are needed. As of now I believe the first month of on-line use is free. You don't need to donate to use or access the forum.
The player base is friendly and honest. it spans both Europe and Asia, with several hundred players in the United States. The lack of players here in the states is a shame. One word of warning, the use of cheats, loaders and hacked items are not allowed on the on-line play. You use them you'll be banded, period. Not like on B-net, there is no wink here. It makes a refreshing game play for all. PKs are not tolerated either. So be warned.
Chaos Empire has expanded and made a mod that has many ways to play, both on and off line. If you liked Diablo at all this mod desrves a look. I hope you'll try it and enjoy.

You will find a very friendly community there, players helping other players.
No Hardcore RIP without loot if anyone is able to get to your corpse, muling is possible in all open games (password games are not possible) and most players give very much items for free away.
But be aware there are many new strong items, a bigger stash and inventory. Many old known things from Diablo have come to this mod.
Do you remember ("fresh meat" from D1) ?
All Runewords (including the ladder-only from Blizzard) are possible and caused by the chances for finding runes you can really build them. No need to wait for years to see a legit ZOD.
