- hugepedlar, on 04/28/2008, -0/+37Gah, I'd forgotten how infuriating this game is.
- FriedTurkey, on 04/28/2008, -0/+2820 years and I bet not one person has finished it without cheating.
This is by far the hardest game ever made. The non-nonsensical nature makes it the hardest in a very hard genre. - inactive, on 04/28/2008, -1/+26Penn and teller had a megadrive game where on one level you had a 2 hour car journey. On a straight road.
The car pulled slightly to the left so you couldn't just hold the button, you had to pay attention.
Nothing happened for 2 hours! - franklymister, on 04/28/2008, -0/+20Play it the way it was meant to be, in text: http://www.douglasadams.com/creations/infocomjava. ...
- afidler, on 04/28/2008, -0/+18Well, having an intact memory is hardly a sad thing.
- Gir53457, on 04/28/2008, -0/+15Sorry for the inconvenience.
- reuscel, on 04/28/2008, -0/+14Without this game, I never would have learned the term "buffered analgesic."
- charlyjl, on 04/28/2008, -1/+14Is it sad that I remember when the original was released? We wasted many days playing.......
- SkippyDoorknob, on 04/28/2008, -1/+13"non-nonsensical"? Wouldn't that mean it makes perfect sense and is very straightforward and easy?
- Kucher, on 04/28/2008, -0/+12Desert Bus, and it's 8 hours!
- slvrbullet87, on 04/28/2008, -0/+10try not being emo
- sailadayaway, on 04/28/2008, -0/+10smell the dark?? SMELL THE DARK?!?!
- doctechnical, on 04/28/2008, -0/+9You'll want "Leather Goddesses of Phobos", down the hall three doors on the right (the ladie's room) or the left (the gent's room).
- spike216, on 04/28/2008, -4/+1342!
- revjustin2, on 04/28/2008, -0/+9Holy Crap! Blast from the past! Played this game for hours on my Apple IIe.
- MacEnvy, on 04/28/2008, -2/+11You are likely to be eaten by a grue.
- bouche, on 04/28/2008, -0/+9i played it on C=64. the grey screen and text was very soothing.
- Dragular, on 04/28/2008, -0/+9Ah so it's nonsensical nonsense?
- doctechnical, on 04/28/2008, -0/+9I can tell you from memory. The bable fish puzzle is without a doubt legendary in how blasted difficult it was. Hint: I hope you all remembered to bring your mail.
Squish. - BohicaTwentyTwo, on 04/28/2008, -0/+8Having a "WTF is a upper half of the room cleaning robot!!" flashback.
- Rhendal, on 04/28/2008, -0/+7It wasn't the meaning of life that was in question. It was the answer to life, the universe and everything.
- doctechnical, on 04/28/2008, -2/+9Yeah, you have to read and stuff, that's so infuriating.
- inactive, on 04/28/2008, -0/+7I was such a dumbass when I played that game. I couldn't even get past the part where you can't hear anything, feel anything, or see anything... I wonder if I could figure it out if I went back and played it.
- keozen, on 04/28/2008, -0/+6Life?
Don't talk to me about life. - FriedTurkey, on 04/28/2008, -2/+8No its another layer on nonsensical.
- Fafnir43, on 04/28/2008, -0/+6Oh, that part's simple once you're used to Adams' puzzle style. The Babel fish puzzle? Now /that's/ a classic!
- Arctor, on 04/28/2008, -0/+6The Babel Fish puzzle took months to solve... Back in the day, Infocom was even selling a "I got the Babel Fish!" t-shirts.
- dxgg, on 04/28/2008, -0/+5Don't listen to the Vogon poetry!
- blink21, on 04/28/2008, -0/+5I have no tea
- Gir53457, on 04/28/2008, -0/+5Of course, I needed something to read wle I plopped myself down in front of the bull dozer.
- franklymister, on 04/28/2008, -0/+5There's not a 3D graphics engine in the world that can compete with the images my mind can conjure during a text game.
/getoffmylawn - QuantumBios, on 04/28/2008, -0/+5RIP Douglas Adams. Thank you for for your insight and for sharing your gifts with us. And for Leather Goddesses of Phobos. (I was 10) Damn you for the babel fish. :-) And Brownian motion made with tea.
- EarlOfLade, on 04/28/2008, -0/+5Given a hole straight through the Earth and which you jump into, how many minutes would it take for you to reach the opposite point of the Earth?
- Caleb83, on 04/28/2008, -0/+4at the risk of sounding like a dick, there are a dozen infocom games considerably harder than H2G2. Hitchhiker's guide is actually easy by comparison. that's not to say some of the puzzles were ridiculously hard, but there's even more nightmarish puzzles in bureaucracy and suspended.
- ncc74656m, on 04/28/2008, -0/+5Hahah, now, let's see how many of you, without Googling it, can figure out how you get the babelfish in your ear.
- hypnotoad32, on 04/28/2008, -0/+4Only those outside the asylum are able to follow the logic.
- graemee, on 04/28/2008, -1/+5Damn that door was hard to open, the one where you had to convince it to open. I do remember spending quite a bit of time on the babel fish, cause I forgot to pick up the mail.
- Chrysophrase, on 04/28/2008, -0/+4Aye, it's not something to be listened too, its something to be ENJOYED.
- Wintermute426, on 04/28/2008, -0/+4That's nothing; some enterprising people played that mode for 4 days straight for charity:
http://desertbus.org - HydrogenY, on 04/28/2008, -0/+4I miss the simple days when to beat the game you had to make a map and take notes. The real game took place in your head rather than on the screen.
- nico623, on 04/28/2008, -3/+642
- EarlOfLade, on 04/28/2008, -0/+3Ehh no, that is wrong.
- wesniles, on 04/28/2008, -0/+3stop whining
- omeomi, on 04/28/2008, -0/+3You are in dark. You see nothing, hear nothing, smell nothing, taste nothing, feel nothing, and aren't even sure who you are.
- Moegopher, on 04/28/2008, -0/+3Ahhh! You can't save in the Java version. Anyone know if there is a website where it can be downloaded?
- Lynxpro, on 04/28/2008, -0/+3Loved the game. When I got my 1040ST, my parents bought this and Flight Simulator II for it. I also remember Infocom's hint book (sold separately) that came with the marker pen that you'd highlight the invisible text in the book per hint you wanted revealed.
RIP Douglas Adams. Maybe one day someone will make a DIrk Gently film. - blakespot, on 04/28/2008, -0/+3About the unreleased sequel to Infocom's Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy I.F. title:
http://waxy.org/2008/04/milliways_infocoms_unrelea ...
Somewhat fascinating. - inactive, on 04/28/2008, -1/+44 Times the AWESOME!
- graemee, on 04/28/2008, -0/+3You forgot mail.
- futureisours, on 04/28/2008, -0/+3This is a pretty brutal game if I remember. The part with the towel and bugblatter beast, especially so.
