- merbrian, on 11/13/2009, -1/+188Well, apparently they just haven't gone deep enough to find the massive, Christmas tree light-filled underwater civilization. I know it's out there, because I saw the Abyss.
- eastwood24, on 11/13/2009, -1/+168In other related news, Japanese fish markets are expecting their first batch of this snail fish species available for purchase within the month.
- MisterChase, on 11/14/2009, -0/+115They probably hyper-expand and yeah, generally get a bad case of death.
- elijahyossie, on 11/14/2009, -0/+109If we go that far underneath the sea, our bodies would be completely and utterly crushed by the pressure.
So what happens if these things ascend? Do they explode at air pressure? - PinkFloyd65, on 11/14/2009, -2/+104Same effect as humans going into space unprotected.
The gasses/liquids inside the body would expand extremely quickly and kill the organism. So yes, it would basically explode. - johnsmith3210, on 11/14/2009, -2/+87FOUCK A YOUU SNAIR FIISH !!!
- LetsGoToClass, on 11/13/2009, -1/+82One day I'm going to watch one of these "new underwater creature!" videos and it's actually going to be the crazy ***** I expected it to be.
- novenator, on 11/13/2009, -3/+73How anything can live at that depth with no sunlight to fuel the food chain is simply amazing.
- ATL, on 11/14/2009, -0/+54first you need to log off of Digg and leave your parent's basement
- WarnerK, on 11/14/2009, -1/+35^^Pretty sure that was the joke.

- ryan3842, on 11/14/2009, -0/+17haha, its eating its own brain
nom nom nom nom - BattleChimp, on 11/14/2009, -1/+18From what I understand, sunlight actually is an element of their foodchain as they were feeding on some crustacean that feeds on the carcasses of dead fish that fell to the ocean floor from much further above, which suggests at some point light was involved.
I'm more amazed their eyeballs can withstand the pressure. They must be like marbles... - Infowarsdotcom, on 11/14/2009, -5/+21Given that they live under so much pressure, I'm surprised they weren't already discovered under Rosie O'Donnell's ass...
Too easy? Yeah I suppose... - JHole04, on 11/14/2009, -1/+17Yes.
- imns, on 11/14/2009, -0/+16deepest for now
- elijahyossie, on 11/14/2009, -0/+16Only a mother could love that one (-:
- Dustmuffins, on 11/14/2009, -0/+16"The pressure is equivalent to1600 elephant standing on the roof of a mini car"
Uh... what's that in atm? - lukak, on 11/14/2009, -1/+15deep.
- mimigins, on 11/14/2009, -1/+14With that much pressure (that's a lot of elephants) I'm surprised they can even move.
- zzhiwen, on 11/14/2009, -0/+12I buried you for the same reason =D
- Denominator88, on 11/14/2009, -0/+11I'm guessing you've never seen the average digger is his basement.
- mtdna, on 11/14/2009, -0/+11His point is that there must be fish living even deeper, we just haven't found them yet.
- ancientdinko, on 11/14/2009, -0/+11Unlike gas, water cannot be compressed. Deep sea fish evolved without gas filled swim bladders or gas voids so they are not at risk of being crushed. Also the fish's blood pressure is still relative to the surrounding water. Another question I'd ask is how can fish survive such cold temperatures. good ans. here
http://www.arctic.uoguelph.ca/cpl/organisms/fish/a ... - InMSWeAntitrust, on 11/14/2009, -1/+12will they be okay?
- staticblake, on 11/14/2009, -0/+10@Puppytwo
It's understandable why you would pose that question but I find it a little strange that you don't just google the answer. http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_do_deep_sea_fish_wit ... - basickly, on 11/14/2009, -1/+11Then what?
- jordanlgta, on 11/14/2009, -3/+13How can I meet the voice over girl?
- porkfriedrice, on 11/13/2009, -4/+13they rule and i want some
- WiretapStudios, on 11/14/2009, -0/+9So what they did was grab one and brought it right on up out of the water to put it on a table to measure it. I mean, what else are you going to do, invent a waterproof ruler???

- PseudoThink, on 11/14/2009, -2/+10Apparently, this video and accompanying images were posted over a year ago. Check them out at the NERC web site: http://www.nerc.ac.uk/press/features/2008/hadeep.a ...

- donosaurr, on 11/14/2009, -0/+6i'm sure my ***** could make it to those depths.
- PingoLingo, on 11/14/2009, -0/+6I slept allot in school but if memory serves:
Average sea-level pressure is 101.325 kPa (1013.25 mbar, or hPa) or 29.921 inches of mercury (inHg) or 760 millimeters (mmHg) and assuming an isothermal layer at the station temperature AND that these are African Elephants..
[insert math scribble gibberish]
comes out roughly to 1 ***** (metric) ton, and from there you can simply apply the ATM to ST conversion... - jlsnacks, on 11/14/2009, -0/+6uh so like 14.7 psi is one atm, .445 pounds per foot of depth, 24,000 feet deep. 10,695 psi. or roughly 725 atm
- LetsGoToClass, on 11/14/2009, -0/+6ohhhhhhhhhhh *****
