- chrisbaskind, on 07/08/2009, -0/+9It seems wrong to classify whales as "bycatch" when they're obviously such big business. Oops! Caught another whale!
- mantis108, on 07/09/2009, -0/+7If whales are "bycatch", what the hell is the main catch?
- granolajoe, on 07/08/2009, -0/+7There is no doubt that this is being done deliberately. But what can be done about it? There aren't any countries willing to sanction whaling-addicted countries, despite the illegal whaling taking place.
- overtoke, on 07/09/2009, -0/+4physical force against the whaling ships is necessary
many people risk their lives to save the lives of whales - greenlivin, on 07/09/2009, -0/+4I can't believe this is accidental, something must be done.
- steelreserve211, on 07/09/2009, -0/+3Incidental Bee-yatch? Was Snoop on the boat?
- dikky, on 07/09/2009, -0/+3I wish I could see 300 years in the future just to see if there are any charges against countries for crimes against humanity for fishing the ocean clean.
Hopefully I never get to see the day where the entire world looks back and realizes that overfishing was one of humanities gravest crimes - inactive, on 07/09/2009, -0/+3You really do not get "endangered" do you? Yes, killing something that there are millions of is completely different than killing something there are very few of. On the other hand, there may be a time in the near future when many fish populations are endangered to the point of near extinction, but that has not happened yet, so yes, it is different.
Yes, baby talk about animals you find cuddly makes you not only instantly correct, but much smarter than anyone else as well. Stay brilliant, genius! - adudenamedjon, on 07/09/2009, -0/+3"Warning, warning. This is the Nisshin Maru , you are to close." - Nisshin Maru whaling boat
"You're to close to the whales" - The Steve Irwin boat

- inactive, on 07/09/2009, -0/+2Tried to listen to your misdirected tripe but couldn't concentrate with all of the sirens wailing ***** in the background.
- skit4king, on 07/09/2009, -0/+2Honestly, what's so bad about killing whales? How is making it illegal to hunt whales going to drive demand down? If people want something, they'll try their very best to get it regardless of the cost. i.e. Environmentalists don't want people killing whales so they ram the whaling boat, the whaling boat wants the whales really badly so they risk having the environmentalists ram their boat. It's a no win situation. Just give up! If someone really wants to rob your house, they probably will!
- Rain12913, on 07/09/2009, -0/+2I see, so you don't believe in laws then? If people want to do something, after all, there's no stopping them!
- inactive, on 07/09/2009, -0/+2I totally saw "irrational bee-yatch" the first time...
- inactive, on 07/09/2009, -0/+1The idea is not that whales can never be harvested, it is that because they were over-harvested for so long they were driven to the edge of extinction. The methods used then are nothing compared to the damage that would be done if fully-industrialised whaling were to be allowed open-season. The point is to be reasonable, and at this time, with the players involved, that simply will not happen.
Unfortunately, until whaling nations agree to realistic kill numbers, opening the door to this kind of insanity would deplete the numbers necessary to grow the herds to the point where one day they could be reasonably harvested again. Much like industrial fish stock depletion, only (very) strictly controlled catches for decades to come will resolve the issue caused by the greed and stupidity of those who refuse to accept killing most of everything you see means you will soon run out of things to kill. - inactive, on 07/09/2009, -0/+1Oh Saggy, saying others fail while blaming whaling on Greenpeace? You should stop fapping in your mother's basement, step outside and take a deep breath, you are just embarrassing yourself!
- serif69, on 07/09/2009, -2/+3Environmentalists.
- inactive, on 07/10/2009, -0/+1Are you suggesting that everyone should eat whales instead? Well, that may be a wonderful month or two, but then they are all gone! Then what? Why is it that so many people who are passionate about the mass killings that are taking place (you and I completely agree on the fish-slaughter, by the way) that if your pet concern is not mentioned, the other person's pet concern is somehow mock-able? Would you rather that those concerned with stopping the slaughter of an endangered, intelligent mammal like the whale simply stop because something else bad is also happening? What you said about Hayden P or any young person who cares and is passionate about their planet is simply terrible! If you want other people to join in your concern (I share the concern) then educate and share the message, but why belittle them? Whether you think an animal is cute or not, does it mean that we should allow the few that are left to be harvested to extinction? Is there something wrong with anyone feeling compassion for an animal they can feel sympathy for? Is this anger at western culture for being hypocritical in your opinion against a different (your?) culture or is it just bitterness for excessive focus on the preservation of similar species at the expense of less "cute" animals?
Do they have to be mutually exclusive?
This world needs more people willing to be activists against the destruction of our environment, not less! Stop being a little sulky puss, Jack! Man up and join progressive change, don't mock it! - inactive, on 07/09/2009, -0/+1Well put! It may very well be that one day in the not too distant future there will be a situation where the mass eradication of world fisheries is seen as similar to mass whale kills, but I doubt it would be seen as a crime against humanity, just a huge blunder of terrifyingly bad planning.
That being said, I am optimistic that we are coming upon a time where world populations slow or stop ocean fishery harvesting enough to stem the tide. Surprisingly, although it would be painful for some years, it wouldn't take much. - inactive, on 07/10/2009, -0/+1Calling you a pussy there was a little rough, but still Jack, come on!
- ThisIsSkynet, on 07/09/2009, -1/+1Are you a star trek fan too?
- inactive, on 07/09/2009, -0/+0I doubt you tried anything other than coming up with a witty reply. You failed.
- inactive, on 07/09/2009, -0/+0i see your now versus later point but you are missing my point. we are very close to depleting the fish population. should we stop when we are really really close? when speaking about something that is this enormous, even 20 years is not that far away. suppose we wait until your near future, by that time, humans would need to suddenly stop eating fish for at least 50 years before the population can recover. is that possible? once it happens, it will create a collapse in the ocean's food cycle. if humans don't eat fish, they will need to eat other things and that will create a food shortage for humans.
over 90% of the world's large predatory fish are already gone. thanks i am a genius, my mumsie tells me so everyday. - inactive, on 07/09/2009, -2/+1You can thank Greenpeace.

DYING WHALES EFFECT THE AMOUNT OF WHALES THERE ARE ON THE PLANET. - inactive, on 07/09/2009, -5/+1lawlz. criticize japan and korea for catching whales. umm how about criticize europe and the united states for depleting the entire fish population? i'd like to see hayden panettierre swim out to a regular fishing boat and try to stop them. opps oh wait, there are hundreds of thousands. i guess one can't snuggle up to a fish as they can a cute widdle whale.
