- shaka776, on 05/29/2009, -2/+78Labs are smart enough to do what you say.
Border Collies are smart enough to plot against you. - kingnova, on 05/28/2009, -1/+66I can't find my dog's breed, MUTT, anywhere on the chart.
Damn elitists! - bstepanian, on 05/29/2009, -2/+58I want to see the list of dumbest dog breeds.
- gingerchic, on 05/29/2009, -2/+47My otter hound mutt would top that list. She walks into walls, repeatedly. She doesn't have a seeing problem or anything, she just assumes it's going to move out of her way eventually.
- jojowasa, on 05/28/2009, -3/+38I'm a fan of the #4, the Golden Retriever. They're very affectionate. If only they didn't shed.
- Brassbud, on 05/29/2009, -1/+33Asian, it's Asian isn't it?
- analogkid01, on 05/29/2009, -3/+31Does she know how to use apostrophes?
- casbboy, on 05/28/2009, -8/+33I think #1 should be "Mix", since all these purebreds are now retarded.
- divinediva, on 05/28/2009, -2/+27I'll agree with the #1 choice.
- UbIwerks, on 05/29/2009, -2/+27Dogs are loyal. A cat will eat you when you die.
- charlie6969, on 05/28/2009, -2/+26I have one poodle. I adore him, but he is definitely on the dumber end of the poodle spectrum.....
- inactive, on 05/29/2009, -0/+23That dog just has conviction!
- jc7012, on 05/29/2009, -4/+24***** YOU, CAT PEOPLEĀ”
- superhope, on 05/29/2009, -0/+20Quantum physics dog
- jwolcott, on 05/29/2009, -2/+21Paris Hilton
- prompel, on 05/28/2009, -1/+20Well, dogs take after their owners, you know. Or maybe you don't know, which probably is the problem here ... ;-D
- inactive, on 05/28/2009, -4/+20I have a Lab and believe me, she's not that smart, especially when she see's me
- webconnoisseur, on 05/28/2009, -2/+18I have a Golden Retriever, but I must say our Husky is at least 10x smarter than the Golden. There's a difference between most trainable and most intelligent.
- KingGorilla, on 05/29/2009, -1/+17...so it's not a dog
- jwolcott, on 05/29/2009, -0/+16Rumor has it there's a small land-locked country in Africa run entirely by Border Collies. They call their human citizens "ruff".
- Hu99, on 05/29/2009, -1/+17It would have been more entertaining to list the ten stupidest dogs. Quite a lot of competition at that end of the scale.
- DickyT83, on 05/29/2009, -1/+14I think I saw your T-shirt on the top 10 of digg a few days ago.
- jc7012, on 05/29/2009, -18/+30***** cats.
- burningrobot, on 05/29/2009, -0/+12"He's figured out that the door handle is what opens doors, and he'll stand on his hind legs and paw at it. And he caught a fly today."
My dog hasn't caught anything but she picked at a dead rabbit stuck in our fence once. - kokoshka, on 05/29/2009, -0/+12Golden's are incredibly loyal and excel in obedience competitions. Definitely one of the smarter breeds, but I can see how their wide grins and exuberant demeanor could be mistaken for stupidity. Especially if you've never worked with one.
- homedaddy, on 05/28/2009, -3/+14I have a lab. He's very well trained but dumb as a post. When he was little we did a lot of training using food as a reward. I think I could have taught him to ride a bike he's so food focused. Over time he's lost a lot of his training but all I need to do is start carrying kibble around and he snaps right back into shape.
- Batfishy, on 05/28/2009, -1/+12Both my dogs are half poodle. One is smart and the other is crazy. If the crazy one is smart she's certainly not letting on.
- osoroco, on 05/29/2009, -0/+11hey, I have a mutt and he's smart as a dog can be, but he underwent an operation that messed up his anus a bit. Now, he got used to it, but in the weeks after the operation his farts made sounds (they didn't before the op), and he farted and had a "WHAT THE ***** WAS THAT!" face on him, and that doesn't make him any less smarter
pic of him: http://www.flickr.com/photos/93362540@N00/32448293 ...
as for inbreeding: yeah, it sucks, people who do it, do it for the money (duh) and care nothing about how well the pups are gonna be - YorMom, on 05/29/2009, -0/+10I used to think our pit bull was just stupid for crashing into walls while on the rampage, but now I think she's just convinced that her little body will break down that wall one day and she will be queen of destruction.
- IMustBeEmo, on 05/29/2009, -0/+10I always thought poodles were kind of ugly but I met someone with a Labradoodle. They are are really awesome and they don't shed.
- KingGorilla, on 05/29/2009, -1/+11I climb buoys *****!
- b1ffr43p, on 05/29/2009, -1/+11cool story bro
- mixsense, on 05/29/2009, -0/+10I have a purebred lab, and a half collie-half blue heeler and I must admit the mutt ***** all over the lab in terms of intelligence. Looks? Not so much....
- kyl3, on 05/29/2009, -4/+13We have 3 Australian cattle dogs (#10), and they are extremely energetic and intelligent. We couldn't be happier.
Here's a cool pic of two of them fighting http://www.flickr.com/photos/kyleakoch/3385442784/
And another of one hanging out in the grass http://www.flickr.com/photos/kyleakoch/3469982140/ - DonAlfred, on 05/29/2009, -2/+11Where is the English Bulldog? Those are freaking awesome. Lay all day in the shade. They fart and burp. Eat and sleep. Nothing more nothing less. They know what life is about. They are truly intelligent.
- Rhysbo, on 05/29/2009, -0/+9Article is sourced on a book named "The Intelligence of Dogs" by Stanley Coren. The top ten lists are both identical.
More information on the book can be found here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Intelligence_of_D ... - rova, on 05/29/2009, -0/+8I grew up with a boarder collie cross cattle dog. I still remember it outsmarting people at my 18th birthday party. It would drop a tennis ball at the feet of someone eating pizza, and then when they lent down to pickup the ball he'd snatch the food. Still miss him.
- eled, on 05/29/2009, -0/+8Come to my house.
I still love them anyway - charlie6969, on 05/28/2009, -2/+10Touchee', ya butthead! lol
Yup, that might have something to do with it. :p - jwolcott, on 05/29/2009, -0/+8Yeah, seriously, wtf?? My Boston Terrier use to do my math homework for me when I was 8. RIP Snuffy.
- inactive, on 05/29/2009, -2/+10What no hot dog?
- cowtown, on 05/29/2009, -2/+9Almost buried for no Australian Shepherd.
- UbIwerks, on 05/29/2009, -0/+7Ya know what, my Beagle (Pocket Beagle actually) is really really smart. Everyone always comes up to me and says, "Oh man! A Beagle! I had one and it was the stupidest dog ever!" But I don't get it. My dog was top of his class! He even sits and stays on the side of a street until I tell him it's alright to come across!
Plus, he howls when I play blues guitar. Pretty awesome. - b3owulf, on 05/29/2009, -1/+8Which is why purebreds are never used as police, rescue, sight, therapy, or competition dogs.......... wait
- burningrobot, on 05/29/2009, -4/+11My cat is smarter than my dog, a sheltie. He's figured out that the door handle is what opens doors, and he'll stand on his hind legs and paw at it.
And he caught a fly today. - dagr8tim, on 05/29/2009, -3/+10Where's the beagle? It's should be one of the top 5 smartest dogs.
I've got a beagador (beagle/black lab) that's the smartest dog I've ever seen. - KMye, on 05/29/2009, -1/+8Right on, I'll take dog-trainer's word for it...
- zboyet, on 05/29/2009, -0/+7Here is a much longer list. While the dogs at the bottom are probably not the dumbest dogs they are at least the dumbest they tested http://petrix.com/dogint/intelligence.html
