- Tomboys, on 02/19/2008, -42/+166This makes me so angry. When we people stop torturing animals? It's what psychopaths do.
- stilesja, on 02/19/2008, -17/+112"Billed as a cultural tradition" - Having douchebags for ancestors doesn't justify animal cruelty.
- dafragsta, on 02/19/2008, -20/+109Before I say this, realize I don't condone animal fighting of any kind, but... you are wrong and you represent the ignorance that goes with self righteousness.
It's not what psychopaths do. That's just what people say to vilify the people who do it. It's what people who don't know any better do. The truth is that people are a product of their environment. If you are brought up to not respect animals, you won't respect them as adults. If you are brought up to not respect women, you won't do that as an adult either. However, humanity is quite hypocritical about where it throws the "inhumane" flag. One mans loathing of horse fighting is another mans loathing of abortion. It's all a confusion of morality which is defined by the environment we were raised in, and sadly, the nearly irreversible indoctrination into that lifestyle which near completely closes their mind off for good.
I wonder how many people got on the Michael Vick bandwagon, who had also been to a bull fight or a circus, both of which are great examples of "inhumane" treatment of animals. My point is that this is NOT just about the animals, it's about the environment and upbringing that the people who fought them had to base their perspective on. - RollandoMota, on 02/19/2008, -9/+83I didn’t know Michael Vick owns horses too..
- inactive, on 02/19/2008, -17/+78The horse with the deathhawk was awesome.
- metapop, on 02/19/2008, -2/+55i would never have guessed horses fight. i didn't think giraffes fought either, until i watched this.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C7HCIGFdBt8 - neio, on 02/19/2008, -8/+53Good luck with banning it, the Philippines is a third world country. They dont give a ***** what the rest of the world thinks.
- vroom101, on 02/19/2008, -21/+46This is the first time I've heard about this degrading, deplorable, despicable whatever-it-is -- let's call it Horse Torture -- because it's not a sport...it's horrible & MUST be banned!!! From the article...
". . . The tournament was equally traumatic for the mare used as 'bait' for the stallions. Not only was she repeatedly hit by stray blows from the duelling horses, but the poor creature was also obliged to mate with the victorious stallions from each 'bout', meaning that she was mounted as many as 30 times during one tournament which can last up to six hours. . . ." - colonelbuckshot, on 02/19/2008, -3/+24The attitude to animals across the whole of Asia is very bad, this doesn't surprise me. In parts of China (and Korea) dogs are skinned alive.
- XNihil0Zer0, on 02/19/2008, -13/+33How does horse taste? Has anyone tried it?
- Rapax, on 02/19/2008, -2/+21Tastes great. Horse meat is pretty common around here (Switzerland). Horse Entrecôte on a hot slate is one of my all time favorites. We also get a lot of dried horse meat.
- blate, on 02/19/2008, -3/+21Could we not have found a better source for this article? I hate the fear-mongering hate-filled Daily Mail with every core of my being
- SpaceDreamer, on 02/19/2008, -4/+20We rich western people would never hurt animals like that...
http://www.mafihotz.com/diverse/meetmeat.php
unless it's for profit of course.
We're so much better than them filipinos. - Scrappy1850, on 02/19/2008, -1/+17my golden retriever has had no complaints
- shaka776, on 02/19/2008, -4/+19I remember back in college, we often discussed whether we believed man was inherently evil or inherently good. I always fell onto the inherently evil side of things. I went to my local animal control to adopt a dog this weekend, and any previous doubts I had about my position were removed. Seeing that a human could possibly have inside of them what it took to injure some of those dogs only revealed to me the monster that human beings are.
This planet has only one major enemy, and we are them. - Chaulis, on 02/19/2008, -5/+18He has a pair, and has taken a stand. Read your damn history! It was ok to say blacks were inferior early in American history. The same goes for many cultures. Hell I know a few Lebanese individuals who still call blacks by the word for 'slave' in their language. It's not ok by my standards, I don't appreciate any form of racism, but we are not moral police. We do not control other cultures, or thoughts! Thats ignorant mentality of America knows best is what got us in this ***** situation in the first place.
- DreKor, on 02/19/2008, -5/+18Can we please deal with people killing people before we start in on people killing horses? I'm not saying that this isn't a problem, but there are so many more problems that are so much more important that we could be trying to fix.
- Shakermaker, on 02/19/2008, -0/+12Try taking a blow to the head from a horse-hoof and see how long you'd last.
- Grimdotdotdot, on 02/19/2008, -0/+12But they're being encouraged to fight by artificially stimulating their base instincts, and it looks like the losers can't run away as they normally would in the wild.
Only a very small percentage of 'natural' fights in any species end in death. - iamdan1, on 02/19/2008, -1/+13Have they tried what most people do with horses and sit on them and race them? Horses are a lot better at running then fighting, and they tend to last longer.
- Hellbacon, on 02/19/2008, -1/+12Seriously. I laughed so hard when I read this:
"The images are deeply disturbing, but the Mail believes they must be seen. "
Who are they kidding? - calon9, on 02/19/2008, -0/+11Your opinion, sadly, points to the root of the problem. Until we realize that what makes us treat animals so callously also allows us to mentally divide and discard other peoples (contributing to some of your aforementioned problems: curable illnesses untreated, starvation, wars, etc.), there is little hope for us saving ***** Sapiens.
On one level you are right. We need to help people. On another level, you are missing something. - shesmiledXidied, on 02/19/2008, -1/+12I'm from the Philippines and I sure do give a ***** what the rest of the world thinks. Living in a developing--this is the right term mind you--country doesn't necessarily mean that i'm apathetic to what people from developed countries say about us.
- inactive, on 02/19/2008, -1/+11This coming from a Digg user who once submitte the following submission: "Man flogs wife's box on eBay"
Seriously...are you TWELVE?
Oh, and the link you are providing does even back you up. IT says that News Corp has nothing to do with it and led to the guy who did it getting suspended. This has absolutely nothing to do with NEwsCorp and everything to do with a company that works for them. - Merendino, on 02/19/2008, -4/+14I know I'ma get dugg down for this but, at least after the fight is over they actually use the wounded animal for something rather than just hanging it or killing it and letting it rot. I know its horrible and I'm not condoneing it, but still, least they don't waste the horse meat.

- ukfoole, on 02/19/2008, -0/+9Yum... ant! I can eat like a million buffalo ant wings.
- simplicityiskey, on 02/19/2008, -6/+15I'm no animals rights activist or vegan or anything like that. While I don't have any problem with people eating meat or breeding animals solely to use them as a food source, this is pretty repulsive. Killing a horse and using its meat for food is one thing, making it participate in a death match before hand is something else all together.
- NotOptium, on 02/19/2008, -0/+8Wow.
- wakananda, on 02/19/2008, -0/+8I share your sentiment - but how many cores do you have?
- Zera, on 02/19/2008, -1/+9Cultural differences are very hard to understand.
- SleepyFoxie, on 02/19/2008, -9/+17brutal... simply and sadistically brutal
- xomb13z, on 02/19/2008, -3/+11Obviously all animals have the ability to fight; it's in our survival-of-the-fittest nature. But that does not mean we should provoke them, force them to fight, and watch for amusement. It's unnatural.
- jspania, on 02/19/2008, -2/+10Wimp Lo: "Observe, My face to foot technique! I am bleeding, so that makes me the winner"
- whisperedlie, on 02/19/2008, -0/+8I must apologize for jspania. He is an idiot. We purposely trained him wrong. As a joke.
- EarlR, on 02/19/2008, -2/+9I would guess because you have no empathy or you are psychotic?
- jspania, on 02/19/2008, -0/+7then cooked and sold as chicken...
- XNihil0Zer0, on 02/19/2008, -0/+7When racing or fighting, they still shoot them in the face if they break a leg.
- lostarchitect, on 02/19/2008, -1/+8if you want horse meat, kill the horse quickly and humanely. you don't need to make them beat the ***** out of each other first.
- indecks, on 02/19/2008, -1/+8The obvious thought is "jeez how cruel". But the 2nd thought is - "how could you get enjoyment out of watching horses fight?"
And I know the answer.
Stupidity. - Grimdotdotdot, on 02/19/2008, -2/+9Although not relevant here because of the 'sport' angle, in many circumstances gypsi would have a very valid point. People (as a whole) only care about animals that they consider attractive. Everyone would be up in arms if someone shot a dog, but no-one cares if you shoot a rat.
Taken down to its most basic level, swatting a fly or standing on an ant is just as bad as using a large weight to crush a horse to death. - insomniac8400, on 02/19/2008, -1/+8Peta should protest giraffe fighting.
- inactive, on 02/19/2008, -1/+8It's funny because people love to try and rationalize person-on-person violence as it was his upbringing, his mental state, his mom didn't love him, and these are all used to excuse reprehensible behavior. But when you have a case of person-on-animal violence there are no excuses, cultural differences and education levels are thrown out the window. These things are the results of an elitist society without perspective. Congratulations.
- lostarchitect, on 02/19/2008, -6/+12HOLY *****. what the ***** is this nonsense? who actually enjoys this? what a bunch of ***** *****.
- Llanowar, on 02/19/2008, -0/+6Please remove yourself from the internet. Your IQ is insufficient.
- neio, on 02/19/2008, -2/+8On the plus side their whores are cheap.
- ulmedas, on 02/19/2008, -0/+6I think the point is that, one who condones these animal fights is not necessarily a psychopath. Equating animal based violence to psychopathy, is akin to equating drug use to income level (i.e., since many drug users are poor, then if you are poor, you are a drug user) which is clearly not true.
Of course horse fighting is disgusting, as is bear baiting and bulldog v. bull fighting and bull fighting, and hunting for sport for that matter, but participating in such event makes one neither disgusting nor a psychopath (though, I am sure there are plenty of psychopaths who participate in such events). It is does show a callous disregard for nature, and is what I would consider immoral, but reactionary comments will do little to change the situation. One should channel the anger incurred by such things towards finding a solutions that might change the hearts of those participating is such acts. - slackerxpc, on 02/19/2008, -8/+14Much more bad ass than dog-fighting!
- ukfoole, on 02/19/2008, -1/+7What? You want the evil Bush to push his corrupt corporate fingers into another countries culture?!?!?!? Is this so 6 months later you can blame them for being some evil empire?
I say to send a letter to China instead, they are closer and maybe they can bring a few Christians, Buddist monks, and other dissidents and have a good old fashioned Roman arena brawl to the death of men battling while trying to ride these horses. -
