- RudeTurnip, on 10/30/2009, -0/+62I saw this picture in the news before but didn't read the story, so I thought she was just sick and being carried away on a stretcher...thanks for the sad news Digg :-(~~~~~~~~~
- fiji5555, on 10/30/2009, -1/+50Dorothy had more compassion and intelligence than most posters on Digg.

- Paradise7, on 10/30/2009, -0/+29That was a moving story. The story of the chimp's life was moving, too. She was exploited for 25 years; still, when she was rescued, she evidenced good-hearted behavior towards other chimps. I wonder now how very close we are to chimps; they were silent, they were mourning. That's how a death of someone close affects ME!
- Zoplax, on 10/30/2009, -2/+30"Get yer stinkin' paws off her, ya damned dirty HUMANS!"
- evil-doer, on 10/30/2009, -0/+26I have something in my eye.
- rambomcfly, on 10/30/2009, -1/+21And way too many people talk with their ass
- sbcea, on 10/29/2009, -0/+18Wow, remarkable.
- evil-doer, on 10/30/2009, -0/+18and there you have it folks. caring about animals is "liberal"
- Amadeus2490, on 10/31/2009, -0/+17" In mid-December, [Koko The Gorilla's pet kitten] wandered onto the highway near the seven-acre research facility and was run over.
"When we told Koko, she acted like she didn't hear us for about 10 minutes," Cohn said. "Then she started whimpering--a distinct hooting sound that gorillas make when they are sad. We all started crying together."
Koko then said, "Sleep. Cat." by folding her hands and placing them at the side of her head, Cohn said."

:-( - Crimeodial, on 10/30/2009, -1/+16***** off, troll.
- Pakivelli, on 10/30/2009, -0/+12Makes me wonder about how much Jane Goodall observed.
- marlow4, on 10/30/2009, -2/+14Chimp Bar Mitzvahs, chimp weddings, chimp baby showers... she must have seen it all!
- Awwzm, on 10/30/2009, -0/+12That's a really moving story for a moving picture.
- Rizzen, on 10/30/2009, -0/+9Oops, two above me. Thats what I get for being retarded.
- prolikewhoa, on 10/30/2009, -0/+8This is sad, Project X sad.
- muffinmonk, on 10/31/2009, -1/+8ಠ_ಥ
These are not tears of sadness. I-It's just that there's something in my eye. - roebeet, on 10/30/2009, -1/+7Dr. Zaius on the right - he did it.
- Mujokan, on 10/31/2009, -0/+6If you think there's no possible way to talk it out, what the ***** is the point of your first post?
- DrRossi, on 10/30/2009, -0/+6And even larger picture
http://img207.imageshack.us/img207/2268/article122 ... - forcedfx, on 10/30/2009, -1/+6Glad they used such a small picture. I can almost see what is going on.
- CBKBAMF, on 10/30/2009, -0/+4I'm not all that liberal... and I got a bit emotional about it.
Truth is, it's a reminder that we're not too much further advanced then these "animals" when it comes down to it. - Mujokan, on 10/30/2009, -0/+5As a philosophy major, of course I will say you can discuss abortion rationally. The partial birth abortion debate tends to focus on the exact *method* used, which I personally think is irrelevant here. I'm not a moral relativist, by the way.
- joerod, on 10/30/2009, -1/+6I think these chimps have more emotion then some humans
- GiggleStick, on 10/30/2009, -0/+4Thank you for giving a link to an actual image. I'm sick of these stupid flash slideshows. Note to webmasters, browsers are natively capable of displaying images. The stupid image in the linked story is actually named "s-CHIMP-large.jpg" and it's 260x190. That's was large on my Apple II, but not so much anymore.
- FrederikNS, on 10/30/2009, -0/+4her*
- Mujokan, on 10/30/2009, -1/+5BannedIP got banned? Anyway I wouldn't say that's the most "rational" topic in the abortion debate.
- Sexercise, on 10/31/2009, -0/+4I'm not crying, it's just been raining.
On my face. - PacmanMafia, on 10/30/2009, -1/+5*sigh* I hope for your sake you are not serious. You are probably being a troll, but if you actually are serious...you need to watch less TV or stay away from the tabloids or if unsure, look it up on the internet. Not the most reliable sorts of information on that kind of media. Tabloids for sure, TV just depends on what channels and Internet...at your own risk.
- ProfessorRiffs, on 10/30/2009, -0/+4/s does not automatically = /lulz
- ripple123, on 10/30/2009, -4/+7have you ever heard of roving bands of man eating chimps?
idiot. - KnowMad1982, on 10/30/2009, -0/+3Maybe the religious right is correct, THEY didnt evolve from chimps...
That whole "empathy" trait is clearly not in their DNA - Insightful, on 10/30/2009, -0/+3Insightful indeed.
In case if people are wondering why the other chimpanzees are kept away behind the chain link fence is that otherwise they will not humans around the deceased monkeys, even well after decomposition has started.
A hunter had killed the chimpanzee's mother when she was young, and Dorothy spend close to 30 years of her life chained and abused for human amusement. I know that burial by us humans is another unnatural interference into her life but it feels like we are righting a mistake.
Rest in peace. - williegarwin, on 10/30/2009, -0/+3Saw the image in this mornings Metro, very interesting...
- ReyX, on 10/31/2009, -0/+2Jane Goodall pwns all.
I just felt I had to say that. - joculator, on 10/30/2009, -3/+5Well, as long as you remember to bring them all a cake I'm sure you'll get away with your nose and genitals intact.
http://www.esquire.com/features/chimpanzee-attack- ... - grubwort, on 10/30/2009, -0/+2Wow, insightful.
- antdude, on 10/30/2009, -0/+2And NG's blog about it: http://blogs.ngm.com/blog_central/2009/10/the-stor ...
- Silace, on 10/31/2009, -0/+1even before i read the story about this, the pic was very touching to me

- Paradise7, on 10/31/2009, -0/+1Thank you, Mujokan, I DO like Pan-kun.
- Slackdragon, on 10/31/2009, -0/+1*Decease apes. Chimpanzees are not monkeys.
- WhidbeyIsland, on 11/01/2009, -0/+1I didn't state that very well. I meant "I've heard an account of a soldier in Iraq...". I've also heard of this happening among "civilians". My point was that in some an animal dying or in pain elicits more of a response than a person in the same situation. My point wasn't about soldiers specifically.
- SpeedSteamBoat, on 10/31/2009, -1/+2Inaccurate. Soldiers in Iraq throw puppies for fun.
- oriondr, on 10/31/2009, -0/+1Just a little dust in your eye from the path that you made when you said your goodbye?
- Subriot, on 10/31/2009, -0/+1@antdude: NGM is actually the original source for HP's article.
- Tubal22, on 10/31/2009, -2/+3*citation needed
I've heard accounts of soldiers giving iraqi children schools and candy and medicine. I've seen accounts of soldiers giving handicapped iraqis care and a better quality of life.
I've even heard an account of a soldier who got shot by a sniper, pop back up, and then give medical aid to the same sniper who tried to kill him.
You're a ***** douchebag. - heresy_fnord, on 10/30/2009, -2/+2The idea is that people always bury the Huffington Post regardless of content. I didn't expect laughter.
