I was actually pretty taken back by the colors and the way it "shimmered" as it changed it's position and light moved over it. I tried to snag some pics, but the weather, and humidity, as well as the glass they use made it next to impossible. Beautiful fish.

      In fact I think I have one with that exact fish on it.
      A fish like that would look awesome under a UV light.

    • Phisolo, on 03/23/2008, -0/+2This fish cost me tens of thousands of dollars. Once I saw it in person, I felt an unstoppable urge to set up a saltwater fish tank. It turns out these fish can only thrive in a very large and well established reef tank. So a year and a half later, my tank was ready and my dream came true. It truly is an amazing fish, and worth the effort to have an appropriate tank. I could not talk my self into doing it again, now that I know the true cost in time and $$$, but I am glad I did once in my life.

They couldn't get it to eat and it was on the verge of dieing. Was able to keep it alive for 2 years, then it just stopped eating again. Not a fish for beginners.

      This fish eats tiny creatures called pods that grow on live rock. If your aquarium has a lot of living rock in it, then this fish will be fine. Otherwise it will starve to death eventually

I thought about how the fish I was about to eat was just a fish like the one I was looking at. The one I was looking at was beautiful. The fish I was going to eat probably wasn't pretty. I just thought about it. That is the day that God spoke to me. That was the best day of my life. I was reminded about that fish when I saw this fish.

  • psycoticparrot, on 03/22/2008, -1/+2For people wondering where to by it, what it eats, etc...mandrins are relatively common in most Salt water fish stores or you can buy them online, but it is not suggested as they eat only tiny creatures called pods that grow on live rock in an aquarium. It takes a very large amount of rock to support these fish. Otherwise it will starve to death in about a month or two.
