- doctechnical, on 11/06/2009, -4/+78WTF??!?!1? People in an open jeep, attracting lions by putting large chunks of meat on the hood.
What could possibly go wrong?
"To hell with beef, I'm in the mood for some Asian. ROOOOWWWRR!!!" - Awwzm, on 11/06/2009, -1/+53"Oh how cute! Look at how close we are...oh...ah...ah....AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!"
- grayworg, on 11/06/2009, -1/+49From the second picture caption:
"...The car has a big piece of glass just in front of the steering wheel with the bonnet sitting in the lions' enclosure, but from the right angle, it looks like there is no glass"
It's not actually a car, but part of the exhibit, the "drivers" are sitting on the other side of the glass. - executex, on 11/06/2009, -2/+41Wow, those old people look like as if this happens everyday...
- MWeather, on 11/06/2009, -0/+29It does happen every day. Look at the next picture. The jeep is an immobile decoration embedded in the glass of the lion's enclosure.
/buzzkill - thegman3, on 11/06/2009, -2/+29A little too close for comfort there.

Not sure if I'm more disappointed in Digg or in myself. - Robustica, on 11/06/2009, -0/+22"Yaaaaaaaaaaay, a lion leaping towards us! Hahaha! This is fun!"
- lifegaurdm, on 11/06/2009, -0/+11There is a Plexiglas barrier just at the beginning of the cab of the vehicle. Bush Gardens has something like this in Florida, that or Animal Kingdom at Disney World.
- Flinty, on 11/06/2009, -0/+10That's a strange place to have a meeting...
- snowpatrol, on 11/06/2009, -0/+10Oh, yeah. Oooh, ahhh, that’s how it always starts. Then later there’s running and.... screaming.
- dpknc84, on 11/06/2009, -0/+9Here's a better picture that shows the glass that actually separates visitors from the lions. Pretty cool idea whomever designed it:
http://national.atdw.com.au/multimedia/tvic/2004_2 ... - zionoe, on 11/06/2009, -0/+8spot the one shivering with fear!!
- doctechnical, on 11/06/2009, -0/+7Oh, that's much safer. With the kid driving the jeep and all...
- Luvboat, on 11/06/2009, -0/+6Jesus Christ! It's a lion get in the....wait.
- saxquiz, on 11/06/2009, -0/+6WTF?? Why are they smiling? I'd be ***** myself!
- NickLindeman, on 11/06/2009, -0/+4The very next picture with description.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/picturegalleries/p ... - path411, on 11/06/2009, -0/+4We can't stop here. This is lion country.
- centran, on 11/06/2009, -0/+4Unless they changed Animal Kingdom recently; Animal Kingdom just uses a tall truck with sides. This "protection" is only for the areas where animals might be able to come close to the vehicle. The more dangerous animals such as lions and rhinos are separated from the vehicle. Although, Disney was very clever with their barriers so you don't notice them. It feels like almost any animal could walk up to you.
- bobakanush, on 11/06/2009, -0/+4why are they so happy? And why is that elderly women driving?
- huntermaclean, on 11/06/2009, -0/+4Talk about no fear of dying in those old folks expressions.
- jkneeshaw, on 11/06/2009, -0/+4A link to the zoo if you are interested in visiting: http://www.zoo.org.au/WerribeeOpenRangeZoo
looks like a pretty cool place! - itmoves, on 11/06/2009, -1/+5The digger quick put photo on to web without checking grammar
- nitroskanker, on 11/06/2009, -0/+4That is not a Jeep. Buried.
- DjBearPDX, on 11/06/2009, -1/+4Holy ***** it's a lion, get behind the big piece of glass!!!
- MacBookForMe, on 11/06/2009, -0/+3What a Rambo!
- lolwatermelon, on 11/07/2009, -0/+3"Although, Disney was very clever with their barriers so you don't notice them. It feels like almost any animal could walk up to you."
That was the idea with Jurassic Park and we all know how well that turned out. - IAMRaven, on 11/06/2009, -0/+3The meat on the Jeep was a tasty treat
To the delight of the Tiger.
And when they got back
From the trip to Niger
that woman was inside of the Tiger. - sibos, on 11/06/2009, -0/+3Sorry, new(ish) theory: Still some what photoshopped, but there's a clear explanation. I searched for the zoo in google images, and found this:
http://www.australianexplorer.com/tourist_attracti ...
featuring this picture: http://national.atdw.com.au/multimedia/tvic/2004_2 ...
So it's a fake jeep, there is some sort of Plexiglas between cat and visitors, and the image was manipulated to make it look like they were in the wild. Does that make more sense? - oo7evan, on 11/07/2009, -0/+3I'm always in the mood for some Asian.
- Braxo, on 11/06/2009, -0/+2I think the foliage behind the people is like wallpaper on a wall. So the lion still thinks it's in a certain environment.
So with that, I guess the foliage could be considered photoshopped which is why it doesn't seem real. - doctechnical, on 11/06/2009, -0/+2Thanks for clearing that up, it makes much more sense now. I was thinking they might have been putting Valium in the lion's water supply to keep'em docile.
And I can see from that second picture that kitty has recently had an IV or injection... (square patch of fur shaved off leg) - Antialias, on 11/06/2009, -0/+2Just reposting my comment from another thread below:
"But it is photoshopped. The lion/truck/people are real but the vegetation above the lion is totally photoshopped in. I use photoshop 5-6 hours a day and nobody can say a clone stamp wasn't used here to cover up the fact that it's not a real jeep driving around.
It basically takes your everyday zoo picture and makes it look dangerous and exciting. Totally misleading and done purposely to get views or by the photographer to get paid more." - mongo25, on 11/06/2009, -0/+2The two in front must be doing their bucket list... no fear of death.
- moozab, on 11/06/2009, -0/+2Been to the Zoo. There is glass. There is also a heat pad under the hood so that the lions lounge in front of the visitors.
- Pilot85, on 11/06/2009, -0/+2I really can't make out any plexiglass there...
edit:
oops, nvm, there it is. - Devenu, on 11/07/2009, -0/+2When death stalks you at every corner a lion doesn't seem like much anymore.
- diggB, on 11/07/2009, -0/+2This photo was taken behind the jeep:
http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2009/11/06/article- ...
Here's another link which shows the setup and more of the background of how the photo was taken.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worldnews/article- ...
One argument that the background was not photoshopped is that several different shots were taken from different angles, all with similar (but NOT exactly the same) backgrounds. Although it is possible that each and every photo was manipulated, that would be a lot of extra work for a fake.
http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2009/11/06/article- ... - livefromheaven, on 11/06/2009, -1/+3Why aren't they flipping out? That looks like a ***** lion.
- diggB, on 11/06/2009, -0/+2See @grayworg's comment above.
It's fake, but the image has not been photoshopped. Glass is used to give the illusion that they are sitting in a jeep exposed to a jumping lion, when in fact they are completely protected.
I hate it when an image on digg is immediately assumed to be shopped just because it's different or seemingly impossible. - Antialias, on 11/06/2009, -0/+2Good find. That's still a really unethical photoshop job. Not to mention a really bad one.
- tunafizzle, on 11/06/2009, -0/+2"The Lion Quick Jump On To A JEEP"
Ah the classic "Lion Quick Jump"... but on a JEEP!?!!? BWAH!?
Title fail.
Why the hell are there slabs of meat on the hood of the SUV (not a actually a Jeep) and why are the people not ***** their pants? There isn't even a windshield or, more importantly, someone with a gun ready. Most random/wtf pic since: http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj78/kingeva/mi ... - MrErlo, on 11/10/2009, -0/+1The quick brown lion jumps over the lazy jeep
- nelsonr1, on 11/07/2009, -0/+1here kitty kitty
- adeelarshad82, on 11/06/2009, -0/+1lion is smart and fast. People in the jeep? not so much
- charlietuna, on 11/06/2009, -0/+1Someone please shop an after picture where both people in the from seat are headless.
- KarmaPoIice, on 11/07/2009, -0/+1I can't believe the look on their faces is one of joy instead of pants ***** terror...
- indy3eb, on 11/06/2009, -0/+1A lion track meet, you say?
- mlvassallo, on 11/06/2009, -0/+1That is not the look I'd have on my face if the *****' King of the Jungle jumped on my jeep.
