- adayahead, on 08/03/2008, -1/+19With syringe-like fangs that can pierce the thickest animal skin, snakes are an evolutionary success story!
- hapax, on 08/03/2008, -0/+13SNAAAKE!!!
- leontes, on 08/03/2008, -16/+27I think it's annoying when all this scientific conjecture overlooks biblical facts. Genesis clearly states that serpents had feet until they tempted Eve to eat the fruit of tree of good and evil. Sure, there is one snake that had fangs, probably the tempter in the garden, but the timing is all wrong. The earth, as clearly understood as bibilical and world truth, is only thousands of years old.
These godless scientists should start with the bible and shouldn't bother publishing anything that contradicts it, as it gets really awkward and forces otherwise openminded schoolboards to try to limit the lies that come from these quarters. Also, everything in science should state whether jesus or not blesses the fact, that would help everyone. - calcio0fan, on 08/03/2008, -6/+15Too bad WE came from damn monkeys
- leontes, on 08/03/2008, -3/+12Isn't it scary that you have to ask?
- raintheory, on 08/03/2008, -5/+12/sarcasm
? - adam07, on 08/03/2008, -2/+8I'm tired of these *****' fangs evolvin' in these *****' snakes!
- aftern9ne, on 08/03/2008, -1/+7Are there normally a bunch of religious people on digg, or are you guys just shouting at the rafters?
- hellride66, on 08/03/2008, -3/+8i'm guessing Lord Xenu has something to do with it
- Wakkyweed, on 08/03/2008, -1/+6I think they're taking you seriously, Tweet.
- solidcube, on 08/03/2008, -0/+5I wonder what the owners of those original fangs were like.
I bet they weren't pleasant one bit. - monoa, on 08/03/2008, -1/+6That's definitely a 'Poe's Law' comment - there are no shortage of fundie idiots who would take it literally and nod in agreement. Sc-c-cary.
And what's worse is that those same fundie idiots are on school boards and in state government, doing their best to destroy the education of children. - MacBookForMe, on 08/03/2008, -1/+6They've been on earth for so many million years - an optimal 'venomous fangs' optimization (animals niche weapon market:)
- graemee, on 08/03/2008, -0/+4What? You can still throw poo.
- Mysk, on 08/03/2008, -1/+5Ya know what a amuses me most? Never have I seen a snake eat dust.
I wonder why the fundies haven't tried gathering up all of the snakes in some attempt to "educate" them on how they're doing it wrong, what with swallowing critters whole as they do instead of eating dust as they're obviously supposed to do. - exomni, on 08/03/2008, -3/+7Yet another of thousands of evolutionary predictions confirmed.
- inactive, on 08/03/2008, -0/+4Funny how you don't know what you're talking about, eh?
- mattballinger, on 08/03/2008, -0/+3As far as I can tell, this finding, interesting as it is, doesn't prove that snake fangs come from the same common ancestor, it just proves that they develop the same way in all snakes. The other bit is speculation based on what we know about evolution and genetics.
- inactive, on 08/03/2008, -0/+3Can anyone tell me when the Shark and the honey badger first became badass.
- CasinoJack, on 08/03/2008, -0/+2Badger badger badger badger...
- Black6x, on 08/04/2008, -0/+2To the people burying him: You're missing the joke.
Love,
Everyone else on digg. - prompel, on 08/03/2008, -0/+2And the forked tongue came from the first ancestral politician.
- Wakkyweed, on 08/03/2008, -0/+2Snakes are cool and monkeys are goofy, that's why.
Personally I'd rather be descended from a duck-billed platypus. - hapax, on 08/03/2008, -0/+1Shark: when they evolved to hum the Jaws theme wherever they go
- nomojunkscience, on 08/03/2008, -0/+1Really what book was that?
- cdigioia, on 08/03/2008, -0/+1All primates instinctively fear snakes...? Just a guess, really no idea what they meant either.
- ChileanGoD, on 08/03/2008, -1/+2Would you like to be this guy?

- cslawren, on 08/03/2008, -0/+1Honey badger became badass when Jezza talked about it on Top Gear in the African safari episode.

- sooperspook, on 08/03/2008, -2/+3Buried. For pointless religion bashing.
- Aliwalla, on 08/03/2008, -0/+1That snake embryo is going to terrorize my dreams for weeks.
- Narrwald, on 08/03/2008, -0/+1Science troll brings to mind an interesting image.
- sooperspook, on 08/03/2008, -1/+2more pointless religion bashing. buried.
- Shenzhov, on 08/03/2008, -3/+3Naw, but they come out from time to time. They are just upset we will probably have a new president soon that will deal in facts and not fiction. Interesting though I read another book that says there should be hobbits running around, but I have not seen any of those yet either.
- Auxon, on 08/04/2008, -1/+1You are missing the point - the snake doesn't eat dust deliberately, it eats it accidentally because it's on its belly all the time with its mouth on the ground. If you try to take everything so literally in life you will never understand anything but what you think you already know.
You think I don't understand that snakes eat things besides dust? Did you really waste your time trying to make me and others look stupid by saying "snakes eat other things besides dust"? - inactive, on 08/04/2008, -1/+1Religion deserves to be bashed since it's sense of self importance is hyper-inflated, contributing little to nothing, ruining and messing up much.
It's like a disease of the mind that can be cured with ever increasing intellectual prowess. Why do the most learned sectors of society have the smallest percentage of adherents to religious organizations? Isn't it obvious? Sure is.
If a million five year olds believe in the obvious lie of Santa clause does that make him real? Maybe just in their little underdeveloped minds. - inactive, on 08/04/2008, -0/+0You're too busy correcting him to notice the obvious sarcasm. That's why your factually correct comment is being dugg down.
/fyi - curseoflou, on 08/03/2008, -2/+2phew. finally, it has been answered.
- austang, on 08/03/2008, -3/+3What does that have to do with snakes?
- inactive, on 08/03/2008, -7/+6except there is a big problem with this article. The earth is only 6000 years old, this is a scientific FACT so how could the snakes 'evolve' 65 million years ago?
This is just some fringe lunatics stiring up some controversy - inactive, on 08/03/2008, -2/+1Guys, this isn't a serious post. Look at the last sentence: "Also, everything in science should state whether jesus or not blesses the fact, that would help everyone." Digg him up!
- tomarocco, on 08/03/2008, -2/+1You can't?
