- bytock, on 06/07/2008, -7/+42to be honest i think its silly to even bury people in a graveyard.
- robert001, on 06/07/2008, -4/+17Pets mean a lot to some people, especially those who don't have many human friends, or cannot, by disability or for other reasons, get out of their home much and just need some companionship. So, for them, £500 would not be a great deal.
- spatty, on 06/07/2008, -0/+11yeah, stick me on a wooden boat and shoot it with burning arrows
- ratexla, on 06/07/2008, -1/+11You flush horses? :O
- tuqqer, on 06/07/2008, -1/+10I think it's important to argue about stuff like this on the Internet.
- inactive, on 06/07/2008, -7/+16When my dog died we just threw its body in the woods, true story.
- moghua, on 06/07/2008, -0/+9And some people spend $600 on a video card that is obsolete in 4 months. Who cares how people spend their money?
- spatty, on 06/07/2008, -0/+7why did you post pretty much the same comment twice?
- pintomp3, on 06/07/2008, -0/+7yes, after i eat them.
- fLUx1337, on 06/07/2008, -2/+9Don't be silly! US dollars is monopoly money - its hardly worth anything any more.
- CharlesDance, on 06/07/2008, -3/+10It's not for you.
- ferrell, on 06/07/2008, -0/+5What's wrong with the back yard?
I mean...it's FREE! - MetalLizard, on 06/07/2008, -1/+6Yea, sticking them into an oven, burning the flesh and bone into a fine dust, and placing their ashes in an urn that goes in the living room makes much more sense. In my opinion burial works just fine. What else do you suggest? Launching corpses into space?
- EvilFerret, on 06/07/2008, -7/+12About 2 months ago I had to bury my dog...... After the plot, casket and stone and a couple other minor things it came out to be $1,500. Money well spent if you ask me....
- geeshock, on 06/07/2008, -3/+8Chris, why are you looking on the femail secion of the Daily Mail?
- v1c1ous, on 06/07/2008, -7/+11i flush mine
- Cate320, on 06/07/2008, -0/+3The backyard is preferable. You can't do it for humans obviously, but if you're going to go through the trouble of burying your friend, isn't it best to have them close? Also it's free!
My childhood backyard contains 3 cats, 1 kitten, 2 birds, a rabbit and a couple of squirrels. All of which received "proper funerals". You do it for the same reason for human burials - closure for the living. Also, for pets a proper goodbye is really important for children.
In short, I think businesses like this are just taking advantage of grieving people. - Scynet, on 06/07/2008, -1/+4It's not about the buried ones, it's about the ones who are still alive. If a best friend dies, be it a human or animal, you need a place to mourn. Graves work well.
- alex7575, on 06/07/2008, -2/+5Ok, I guess I have to spell it out then, since the underlying message was not caught by any of you...
I won't let anyone spend any ridiculous amount of money to bury ME, let alone a dog, no matter how much I love my dogs, they're not getting a burial that costs more than the one I have planned for myself.
Happy now? - Coffeedemon, on 06/07/2008, -0/+3My parents backyard is like a pet cemetery. Over the years we've always buried the pets around the perimeter (deep of course) or in soon to be sodded vegetable patches. Think we're up to 2 hamsters, 3 cats, one dog and a turtle.
- TheSkinsFactory, on 06/07/2008, -0/+2What about for the people living in apartments, condos or simply don't have a backyard?
- urik88, on 06/07/2008, -0/+2I never understood why you should spend a lot of money to honor your loved one...
I certainly wouldn't like my family to spend a lot of cash to bury me. Specially not the concrete graves that don't let the bugs get to your body.
It's just the way nature works. In Israel the people are just wrapped into an Israeli flag and buried. No expensive coffins.
I find that to be the most reasonable kind of burial. - alex7575, on 06/07/2008, -0/+2I understand that (agree also), but how long are people planning on mourning? A few weeks, months, years? AFAIK, you're buried there for at least a couple of decades...
How often do you go mourn a loved one that has passed away over 3-5 yrs ago? I know a few do, but none of my closest friends or family (my own included) go mourn at a grave anywhere as often as they/we should, most of the times is just inconvenient. IMHO graves are a waste of land, and if a loved one is gone for good, what does not letting the body go, will do?
I'd rather be forgotten, if people are going to mourn me for years, or even months.
PS: Cue reply to this comment where someone says no one is going to give a ***** when I die... HA! how do you like me now troll...? - antdude, on 06/08/2008, -0/+2Did anyone find it?
- DailyWail, on 06/07/2008, -5/+7Buired. DM spam.
- str3ama, on 06/07/2008, -0/+1I consider them as family members, so why would I give them anything less. Personally I really don't like the whole cemetary thing - cremation seems better but I'd still like an epitaph or something extremely unseemly (giant phallic anyone?) that would be both unsettling and bizarre to passersby.
- Rigor, on 06/08/2008, -0/+1For years, nay sayers have been trying to take the meaning out of meaniful tradition. Without meaning, allow for for whatever. Ask urselves some question. Do you support local maket or walmart? Eat at home with family or Mcdonalds? Traditions allow stability... If someone can rationalize the death of a loved one into dollars. They are already lost and live by a creed of ME.
- MetalLizard, on 06/08/2008, -0/+1because digg is a *****
- Nelka, on 06/10/2008, -0/+1I'm sure you spend all your extra income on charity. Once again, it is their money and they can choose how they want to spend it.
Furthermore, simply because someone is willing to spend their money on such things, doesn't mean they do not give money to charity. - fr3ddie, on 06/07/2008, -2/+3BBQ FTW!
- orph3us, on 06/08/2008, -0/+1Haven't you ever read Pet Cemetary!? On a serious note, call me superstitious or whatever, but I think it would be a bit freaky to have all your loved ones buried so close to you. My grandmother recently died and we had her ashes spread out in Argentina where she was from. I wish they had buried her remains somewhere close by so that I could visit whenever I thought of her. But the thought of having her in my backyard would freak me out a little bit. You don't ALWAYS wanna visit them, but when you do its nice to have them close by. Resting with all the other souls if you believe in that. And if you don't believe in that, at least its nice to go visit a cemetery that's well kept. There are a lot of cemeteries around here that are absolutely beautiful. Well kept, views of the citys or just nice rolling grassland with a lot of vegetation/trees. If the animal meant enough to you, as I'm sure some dogs might, I don't think it would be outrageous to bury an animal in another place. But if it really meant that much to you, as my Grandma did to me, I think having them in the backyard would be a little too close. Indians respected burial grounds, they didn't build anything around them, or on them. You've seen the movies!!! :) ....
Respect for the dead is a tradition that I don't consider dumb. For all of you who say that you don't care where/how you are going to be buried, I hear you, you say you don't give a *****, BUT ITS NOT FOR YOU (especially if you're only worried about the money aspect involved)! It's for the people who loved you and are still alive. You may not wanna make a fanfare about it, but your living relatives might wanna visit you once in a while. Being able to be close in mind/spirit to a dead one gives people clarity.
Now I'm getting cynical, I don't know whats right. Is it selfish to not wanna be buried where people can visit you? Or is it selfish to want to have a grave that people can visit?
I guess its something to think about. - twomeyw23334, on 06/08/2008, -1/+2There are humans starving on the street and you are just surfing the Internet!? I mean, how can you justify the cost of your computer or Internet service while people don't even have food!?
- cmapes2, on 06/07/2008, -0/+1I have great inner satisfaction knowing I was the 5th bury that killed this post.
- aethelberga, on 06/07/2008, -2/+3In many places it's against local bylaws to bury your (presumably deceased) pet in the backyard. When our cat died I called the vet to see if they would take the body & they wanted nearly $100. Needless to say, she's got buried in the back yard.
- pe5t1lence, on 06/07/2008, -0/+1Sounds like a great chance for entrepreneurs with a nice backyard.
- BetterOffEd, on 06/13/2008, -0/+1@NormalVisual
Where exactly did I "FAIL" again? Please elaborate.
And I can judge others because I don't engage in such insane practices. That's precisely where I "get off." - DigitAl56K, on 06/07/2008, -0/+1How is that ironic?
- inactive, on 06/07/2008, -0/+1i thought this was gonna have something to do with bestiality
- Pixelante, on 06/07/2008, -0/+1Remove yourself from existence, and with the money that would be wastes supporting your pointless life we could save a lot of kids.
- Nelka, on 06/07/2008, -0/+1As much as I love my pets, we have never had funerals for them. However, as silly as it may seem to most people, if that is how someone chooses to spend their money, so be it. We all have things we spend money on that the next person might think is frivolous or stupid. Some people waste thousands on brand name purses, some people collect action figures or comic books, others have to have the latest electronic equipment, and so on.
It's their money, it's their pet. Who cares? - sega01, on 06/07/2008, -0/+1I agree. Let my body decompose raw so that it can give the most nutrients to the soil, and feed the animals (humans are welcome too).
- evolutionium, on 06/07/2008, -0/+1Pedobear is fine too??
- RadiatedAnt, on 06/07/2008, -0/+1I buried mine in the back yard.
/action dusts off hands in a satisfactory manner. - evolutionium, on 06/07/2008, -0/+1500 Quid = 1.33 * the median annual household income of an Indian family
How Ironic, - oracol, on 11/30/2008, -0/+0you could bury the dead animal in the backyard. No need to spend 500 pounds.
http://whiskeylabel.com - rockets, on 06/08/2008, -1/+1To love an animal more than a human being is sick.
- rockets, on 06/08/2008, -1/+1Give their money to charity... that would be better.
