- Jasta88, on 06/18/2009, -13/+188Does anyone in PETA drive a car? I kill a few bugs every week driving to work each day.....
Is there a chapter in the PETA book, on how to safely drive highway speeds and not have insects get stuck to your windshield? If so, please let me know because I hate cleaning my car. - inactive, on 06/18/2009, -20/+170Is factory-farming a cruel and unjust practice? Absolutely.
Should people kill minks and other animals to wear their fur? Don't think so.
Would I kill a fly that was bugging the ***** out of me? In a ***** second. - siszam, on 06/18/2009, -23/+169"Since 1998, PETA has opted to “put down” 21,339 adoptable dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens instead of finding homes for them."
"During all of 2008, PETA found adoptive homes for just seven pets.
Just seven animals -- out of the 2,216 it took in. PETA just broke its own record."
That’s not an animal charity. It’s a slaughterhouse.

http://www.petakillsanimals.com/ - ml4rocky, on 06/18/2009, -15/+81I'll get right to the point: PETA is somewhat nuts!
- alpha88, on 06/19/2009, -13/+70Oh god I hate PETA.
- veskris, on 06/19/2009, -3/+58This isn't a problem with PETA, it's a problem with the stupid ***** who are actually turning this into a story. He swatted a fly, and people actually took the time to CONTACT PETA for a statement. Are you kidding me?
- hadessniper, on 06/19/2009, -9/+48Somewhat? PETA is ***** insane.
- inactive, on 06/19/2009, -11/+49uh.... i guess im the only one that read the article . if you do, you would know that PETA doesn't care about the killed fly, and they said obama is not condemned. why is everyone so pissed off? the article clearly explains how everyone just assumed peta was pissed- and EVEN AFTER WRITING A ***** ARTICLE TO EXPLAIN IT, PEOPLE STILL THINK PETA HAS A PROBLEM WITH IT. idiocracy at its finest. .
- richmomz, on 06/19/2009, -6/+42That was no swat... that was a pimp-slap!
- maz2331, on 06/19/2009, -8/+40Pass the bacon-wrapped steaks to the lady in the fur coat.
- CoreyTamas, on 06/19/2009, -5/+31It would be a good idea if some of you took time to read the article.
PETA, in an uncharacteristic display of even-temper and reason, did not criticize Obama for swatting a fly or vilify him for what was a reflexive action. They clearly explain they are only making a statement on the matter in response to media requests for one, and that they wouldn't otherwise. PETA also mentions that they offer alternative, humane ways to control insect problems which don't require killing them, but that's about as far as it goes.
In other news, PETA being reasonable and sane makes me wonder if it's Opposite Day today. - Travelsonic, on 06/19/2009, -2/+27"...is filled with lots of falsified information."
They cite their sources. The U.S govt requires PETA to keep close tabs on this information. - shakingwater, on 06/19/2009, -10/+34***** PETA.
- Phil1ip123, on 06/19/2009, -4/+27Even if they don't comdemn him for this, they're still ***** crazy.
- feignNU, on 06/19/2009, -5/+28I'm not a member PETA. I think they're more or less terroristic on their worst days, and absolutely ***** crazy on their best. I am usually really enraged by PETA. But their statement in this matter really doesn't seem that ridiculous to me. I don't think anyone is saying we should be weeping over dead bugs, or that people who kill bugs are immoral or anything. Instead, they were contacted by the media when this happened, and their response was, "It's not a big deal, but we support compassionate treatment for all animals. If you have a pest problem, we have information on removal methods that aren't harmful." That doesn't really seem particularly unreasonable to me. It's consistent with their ideals, they didn't condemn anyone, and they offered their services to anyone who might be interested, and all of that only after they were asked.
There's a lot to fault PETA for. This isn't it. - mickstephenson, on 06/19/2009, -1/+24So far non of these comments have taken into account the fact that PETA say that they aren't particularly concerned with obama swatting a fly, don't get me wrong, I really don't agree with their POV regarding animal research and the militant tactics they use, but as they have said this particular incident has not been condemned by them, they have merely issued guidance on pest control, why should this thread be a completely unrelated PETA bashing?
- Travelsonic, on 06/19/2009, -2/+24[citation required]
Seriously, where has it been debunked? - Fukanzen, on 06/19/2009, -6/+25Sorry for the caps but DID ANYONE READ THE ARTICLE?!
Jesus, everyones freakin out when the article explains essentially PETA didn't give a ***** and the media is making it out to be much bigger than anyone else did. - solid12345, on 06/19/2009, -4/+21I can't help it, that piece of steak just flies into my mouth, what do you expect me to do, not eat?!
- ennwarenn, on 06/19/2009, -5/+21Totally. looks like 95% of the folks on here didn't bother to read the damn article.
- JCEEZ, on 06/18/2009, -14/+30There is NO WAY this can be true.... PETA isn't that retarded are they?
are they????? - kuys, on 06/19/2009, -4/+20It's not been debunked. The people for extortion, arson and terror like to say that to muddy the waters so to speak.
If they told the truth do you think they would actually be able to recruit anymore foot soldiers? Granted the majority of their members are naive as hell to begin with but even they couldn't reconcile that. - sugarazor, on 06/19/2009, -7/+21They did say they "wished he hadn't" killed the fly and then mentioned their catch and release insect trap they have. Just because they managed to react to something without screaming 'MURDERER!' doesn't mean PETA isn't as ridiculous as ever.
- arjtin, on 06/19/2009, -5/+19I read it, I'm still burying you. Responsible environmental protection is about keeping a stable ecosystem and preventing cruelty to living beings. He swatted a fly. He didn't declare genocide on the species.
- topgigmedia, on 06/19/2009, -0/+14Fine! you try getting their little legs apart then - I sure couldn't.
- Jeremyz0r, on 06/19/2009, -0/+13Alright, one person read the article besides me! Now if we could get some logical discussion, besides this blatancy blind hate that isn't relevant to the story.
Where did PETA condemn Obama? All I saw was some reference to him being only human. - ncgmac, on 06/19/2009, -7/+20Not really. By this logic it would be okay to knowingly drive over a child and keep on cruisin' down the road. When someone proves to me that another fly cares that I killed a fly, or better yet, my dog, who eats flies cares. Then I'll stop, but until then, pass with the electrified fly swatter.
- dvsbastard, on 06/19/2009, -1/+13Well I ride, and on a nice summers day I usually keep my helmet visor up... and I have swallowed my fair share of bugs... I wonder what PETA thinks of me?!
- jwolcott, on 06/19/2009, -0/+12I'm confused, how do you feel about all this?
- CATSCEO2, on 06/19/2009, -6/+18Yes they are.
- elmuerte17, on 06/19/2009, -16/+27PETA is a bunch of terrorists. They are completely illogical and, in many cases, put the value of animal life over that of a human. They are also hypocritical, as they euthanize thousands of animals per year, and in spite of condemning the use of animals in medicine, one of the PETA leaders is diabetic and uses, several times a day, insulin produced from... you guessed it... animals.
***** PETA. - Sisko41, on 06/19/2009, -17/+28This, is. *****. stupid.
PETA shouldn't give a ***** about insects. In my eyes, they aren't animals--they are little annoying pests. - Truegod, on 06/19/2009, -0/+10And? The media sought out comment from PETA because they thought PETA might have something to say about it, which they did. The media did not put words in their mouth, nor did PETA resend their statement.
- veskris, on 06/19/2009, -6/+16Digg is so god damn predictable. Yes, PETA is ***** up, and doesn't have much credibility, but read the ***** article "the media began contacting us in droves for a statement," what do you think they were going to say: "***** flies we don't give a *****!" And they didn't even condemn anyone or anything, they just said basically, "Yeah, we aren't fans of killing insects."
- Weasler, on 06/19/2009, -7/+17You have to remember, this is Digg. Unless the title clearly spells that out, these hamsters won't fully understand the situation...
- riyehn, on 06/19/2009, -7/+17I'll get to it before you: PETA is absolutely ***** nuts.
- topgigmedia, on 06/19/2009, -1/+11Finally, a rational comment on the matter - thank you.
- inactive, on 06/19/2009, -0/+9i beat you to it, but welcome to the reality club. we are going strong with 2 person membership right now...
- ncgmac, on 06/19/2009, -4/+13Yes they are, but if the little sons of maggots get into my house they're dead.
- cyrix, on 06/19/2009, -1/+10Silly, they don't need to prove it was debunked. They'll just call you an animal hating murderer instead.
- Jeremyz0r, on 06/19/2009, -0/+9RTFA: ALL OF YOU. Sheep.
- Masayume, on 06/19/2009, -5/+13Apparently the majority of the people didn't take the time to read the article, but took the time to leave a comment. Amazing.
- inactive, on 06/19/2009, -1/+9I'm not talking about the article, I'm talking about PETA in general. In response to siszam's comment stating PETA's kill record. Screw the fly, I know PETA didn't care too much about it and frankly I'm surprised they didn't give some huge uproar about it.
- asgardshill, on 06/19/2009, -9/+17Beat me to it. Until they stop killing animals at their own shelters, my own counsel will I keep about this.
- solid12345, on 06/19/2009, -1/+9They are important but so plentiful that if every human swatted a fly they'd still be fine as a species
- inactive, on 06/19/2009, -4/+12Hypocrisy to the max.
- PityDaFool, on 06/19/2009, -2/+10/facepalm. I was referring to the fact that PETA didn't go out raising a stink over this. They had tons of journalists calling them for a statement and basically said "chill out, sure there's probably better ways to deal with fly problems, but he's human" and had the press turn it into "PETA Bashes Obama Over Killing a Fly".
- hotshotveggie, on 06/19/2009, -0/+8@veskris
I know what you're getting at; killing a couple bugs doesn't matter, but saying they aren't important to our well being is foolishness. - jwolcott, on 06/19/2009, -11/+19veskris, I just slapped a mosquito and stunned it, ripped it's legs off one-by-one while its head was bobbing from side-to-side, and then drenched its limbless body in olive oil so it slowly suffocates.
***** you, ***** PETA, and ***** MOSQUITOS! - daEvan, on 06/19/2009, -1/+9Seeing these comments, I'm losing faith in diggers. None of the first comment posters read the article and/or understood it as they immediately criticize PETA with disregard to their neutral stance on the situation which was being reported on.
I don't like PETA either, but man some of you guys are disappointing me. -
