- voxtarri, on 04/28/2008, -19/+246The orangutan isn't spearing the fish, the fish is spearing him
- geniuslocimusic, on 04/28/2008, -9/+209Proving even male orangutans need to get away from the wife...
- jjustice, on 04/28/2008, -3/+156What is this, Soviet Russia?
- fadeout, on 04/28/2008, -20/+168Kinda funny that it was rationalized that the chimp had to be copying humans. Due to the way our hands are formed it's been theorized this is exactly as we evolved, as river apes.
- amanilaenvelope, on 04/28/2008, -13/+120Hey, i didn't know Mr.Babyman liked to spear fish.
- douce2, on 04/28/2008, -3/+104This is just the first step to the planet of the apes...
- PleaseJustDie, on 04/28/2008, -3/+98In Soviet Russia, the joke gets you.
- inactive, on 04/28/2008, -6/+86He's not spearing fish, he's trying to find the TV remote after he dropped it from his tree house.
- stonebone4, on 04/28/2008, -3/+75Meh, spears. I'll be scared when apes learn to rickroll.
- bag2p, on 04/28/2008, -3/+74I meant to click the link above this entitled, "Jayz gets involved with Lebron/Stevenson feud."
how confused was i when i saw this. - mentallyinhell, on 04/28/2008, -2/+62Well at least now its official, I've been fighting people over that one for years.
- ASSASSYN360, on 04/28/2008, -3/+61That nothing. It's so easy a caveman can do it.
- arw371, on 04/28/2008, -3/+601. Chimps are not Orangutans, and Orangutans are not Chimps.
2. So its possible it didn't invent pole fishing independently? It certainly seemed to connect the action with the effect: spear a fish, eat it.
I would promote the argument that feral humans would probably be unable to invent pole fishing. Most of the stuff we learn is by copying our parents behavior. Most feral human cases involve the person crawling on all fours, unable to walk erect. One of our greatest features is almost entirely learned from copying. - methos75, on 04/28/2008, -4/+57Chimps use tools to gain food and the Orangutan is roughly only slightly less intelligent, so it is feasible that it devised this on its own, these are very intelligent animals. regardless, even if he was just copying humans, that still shows an enormous intellgent and understanding of actions and how to relate them to himself, that is very close to near human since that is how are own offspring learn as well.
- mtwoar, on 04/28/2008, -2/+49That's Hot!
- furbyboy, on 04/28/2008, -2/+43ok, i believe in evolution, but this isnt it.......simply a modification of behaviour which (different from biological evolution), who knows, may have been copied from a human he saw fishing.....it is still cool however
If you are going to shout evolution at everything then do it in private and dont give us a bad rep, thanks! :) - ninetimes, on 04/28/2008, -1/+41I don't know if the idea that he copied the behavior from people diminishes his intelligence much. I'm sure the fisherman that he watched spearing fish learned how to do it by mimicking another person who already knew how to do it.
- Pegasus_Strain, on 04/28/2008, -2/+42Take your stinking paws off my fish, you damned dirty ape!
- tcorlen, on 04/28/2008, -1/+39he won't be truly advanced until he can sit in a fishing boat drinking beer all day.
- guimonkey, on 04/28/2008, -17/+53I for one, welcome our orangutan overlords.
- justok, on 04/28/2008, -1/+36Exactly what they WANT us to think!!!!
- evilregis, on 04/28/2008, -1/+35Something monotone, I'm sure.
- logan074, on 04/28/2008, -1/+33Why does everyone keep calling it a chimp?
- Jarasmen, on 04/28/2008, -9/+39Yes, well, but can he TELL other orangutans about this? Tought so. I guess the orangutan invasion is still not that imminent.
- fowleryo, on 04/28/2008, -2/+32what do you mean, "now'?
- VolSurrealist, on 04/28/2008, -1/+29Well, to be fair, the article did specify it was a POLE
- robeph, on 04/28/2008, -1/+25Lol perhaps for your families lineage it was....
- theaceoffire, on 04/28/2008, -2/+25The thing about Einstein sucking at math is a myth... he was so good he got bored in class.
- worldchanger, on 04/28/2008, -15/+38yes. a monkey grabbing a stick and hanging over the water PROVES that everything came from a puddle of bubbling ooze.
your logic is flawless. - inactive, on 04/28/2008, -7/+30Beats me
- Logicexe, on 04/28/2008, -1/+23I agree. Let's not forget all the little steps he had to go through to learn this. Not only did he have to observe the humans in the act of spear fishing, but he had to understand that they were using a tool, that they were using this tool to catch fish and that he too could use a similar tool to catch fish. He wasn't "just" copying the behavior, he was understanding the purpose of the behavior.
Compare that to a dog who sits in front of a sliding screen door barking for attention so he can go outside. The dog could easily nudge the door open a little with his nose and use his head to push it open all the way, but only a few dogs actually learn this technique on their own. That's a heck of a lot simpler than spear fishing, yet most dogs do not figure it out on their own. - ZombieKiss, on 04/28/2008, -1/+20Wouldn't you like to know...
- Logicexe, on 04/28/2008, -1/+20I guess it's a step up from referring to all primates as monkeys.
- krisscofield, on 04/28/2008, -8/+27Please, leave.
- sassafras1232, on 04/28/2008, -1/+20I'm surprised it took so many comments to get this one out of the way.
- kushin, on 04/28/2008, -3/+21soon they will be programming in asp.net
- userbl1360, on 04/28/2008, -1/+19No, the spear is obviously orangutaning the fish
- talonstriker, on 04/28/2008, -1/+19I'm an evolutionist, but what does this have to do with evolution? This is an advancement in the orangutan's behaviour--not its biological structure.
- evetsleep, on 04/28/2008, -3/+18There never has...and never will be an Orangutan that is as awesome as Clyde. RIP.

- TheNeptune, on 04/28/2008, -2/+15I am a bit skeptical myself, but you state rather matter-of-factly that this is a hoax, proof?
Otherwise, an expert of Great Apes you may be --- critical thinking you are not. - Arcesius, on 04/28/2008, -5/+18Rubbish. That had racist overtones, and you know it.
- wheezyninja, on 04/28/2008, -2/+15That is one hairy kid
